The Best Of Booker T. And The M.G.'s

The Original Atlantic Soul Masters 180g Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues..

As a young teenager growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, Booker T. Jones had the amazing talent to play a number of instruments and he played them well. Mastering them well enough to land him work at the famous Stax Records label as a sideman, while still attending high school. It was during this time he met up with future guitar legend Steve Cropper and drummer great Al Jackson and later formed the Stax wrecking crew known as Booker T. & The M.G.s.

This amazing quartet, whom later added the amazing Donald Duck Dunn on bass went on to record a treasure trove of funk, soul and rock masterpieces, which have gone on to become some of the greatest sides ever waxed in modern soul history! With chart topping soul rockers like Green Onions, Red Beans And Rice and Hip Hug-Her, the good folks at Atlantic honored this famed quartet with their own greatest hits album, the magnificent The Best Of Booker T. & The M.G.s in 1968. This original album has been out of print for many years, and for several decades in the vinyl format...that is until now.

Friday Music is proud to offer the original Atlantic Records masterpiece The Best Of Booker T. & The M.G.s for the first time on 180g Audiophile Vinyl. Mastered impeccably from the original Atlantic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray.

This best of album features all of their original hit recordings mentioned above, as well as more killer funk like Mo Onions, Slim Jenkins Place and Soul Dressing. Plus, super soul interpretations of The Rascals Groovin and George Gershwins Summertime.

They have also included the original rare album cover elements featuring the hip Baron Wolman/Rolling Stone photo and the excellent packaging design of Haig Adishian. This is one collection just made for the audiophile vinyl domain and will be a perfect companion to our recent Atlantic Records soul offerings from Wilson PickettThe Best Of Wilson Pickett and Solomon BurkeThe Best Of Solomon Burke.

    Hip Hug-Her

Booker T. & The MG's smoked the charts once again in 1967 with the fabulously slinky Hip Hug-Her -just like they'd never left. As house band for Memphis' Stax Records, backing Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Wilson Pickett, the MG's had written the book on instrumental soul music, and the Hip Hug-Her album impeccably testifies to the greatness of Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Alvin Jackson. MG's versions of the Young Rascals' Groovin' and Bobby Hebb's Sunny were so downright in-the-groove, they became big hits themselves all over again. Another lip-smackingly delicious exact reproduction from Sundazed, on 180-gram vinyl, from the absolute vintage analog tapes!

Skeletons Is The Tenth Studio Album By Danzig And Covers Songs Ranging From Elvis Presley To Black Sabbath

Pressed On Purple / Black Splatter Vinyl

The album had been talked about by Glenn Danzig for years, even prior to the previous effort of Deth Red Sabaoth. So far, it is difficult to determine when the entire album was recorded, as it has been talked about in interviews for so many years. In response to this, Glenn has stated: I had to put it out now or else there would be so many songs I'd want to do that I wouldn't be able to do it. Even the way I did it, there are so many songs I still wanted to cover. My attitude with covers is, make it your own or else leave it alone.

As stated in an interview in 2011, Danzig initially thought of releasing a series of separate EPs: So far I've done about seven or eight covers. There's a cover of Sixties band The Young Rascals and I'm doing a 'Nuggets' track too. 'Nuggets' were these pre-punk, psychedelic, garage albums. They produced a bunch of influential compilations in the early Seventies. So currently this is an on-going project, laying down as many tracks as I feel like and maybe releasing a seven- or eight-song EP of the best ones once they're done.

    6 Feet Beneath The Moon

Six Feet Beneath The Moon is the long-anticipated debut album from Southeast London's King Krule.

Archy Marshall aka King Krule broke out two years ago, at the tender age of 16 with his eponymous
EP released on True Panther. King Krule's sound, a
hypnotic mixture indebted to working class British
song-smiths like Billy Bragg as much as NY No-Wave
and hip hop carries a maturity and depth far beyond
his years. The EP's lead single, "Noose of Jah City"
found a great deal of success on BBC's Radio 1,
and brought Archy praise from Pitchfork, The NY
Times, FADER and numerous other publications. His
music has also won him fans among today's young
music elite - Mac Miller, Frank Ocean and Tyler, The
Creator are all supporters, collaborators and fans.

Six Feet Beneath The Moon takes the potential
evident in the EP and blows it out of the water.
Across 14 tracks Archy expertly weaves incredible
stories of London life, his own relationships and
experiences with the swagger of a street poet, all in his incredibly distinct smoky baritone. The album, recorded mostly near Archy's South London
home with producer Rodaidh McDonnell (The XX,
Savages, How To Dress Well) is stark but incredibly
rich - painting with a palate full of hip hop, jazz, no-wave and poetic influences.

The album shares the electric confidence of some of last decade's most important debuts - Arctic
Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What
I'm Not', The Streets' Original Pirate Material and
Dizzee Rascal's Boy In Da Corner. It is somehow
both a perfect summary of a young man's life in a
particular part of London and a universal, deeply
moving and compelling statement. Most importantly,
it is the flag ushering in a new and important musical voice that is sure to be with us for quite some time.

Almond's voice--although it no longer veers out of tune like it used to soendearingly in the 80s--is still enthralling. - The Guardian

'Shadows And Reflections' is the new album by Marc Almond released by BMG. It features sumptuous arrangements of iconic torch songs and60's orchestral pop for which he is beloved, as well as two new original compositions. The album features songs written or recorded by artists such as Burt Bacharach, TheAction, The Yardbirds, Bobby Darin, Julie Driscoll, Billy Fury and the Young Rascals. The album thematically begins and ends in an apartment. It's about this guy that'sliving in a luxury expansive glass apartment overlooking the city, filled with sculpturesand beautiful things, an empty soulless shell, surrounded by absurd wealth. He issitting alone and I imagine listening to this music, possibly the songs that make upthis album. He's rich in the bank but the poorest person you know.

2017 cements the 60th Birthday year for the singer who the Observer noted, hasnever stood still and comes after the great success of the Top 10 album 'Hits AndPieces', which was followed by a sold-out Spring tour including a triumphant show atLondon's Roundhouse.
