    People Problems

Oh No Oh My writes songs that beat down your senses and fill up your boots with a feeling like you've just gotta, at the very least, move. The band jokingly describes their music as sexy indie which is what you might expect from an Austin-based foursome who cite Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire De Melody Nelson, Spiritualized's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space and Nico's Chelsea Girls as influences on their second full-length album People Problems.

Multi-instrumentalists Daniel Hoxmeier, Joel Calvin, Greg Barkley and Tim Regan showcase a relaxed, effortless feel and pull no punches, anything goes strategy (Pitchfork) on 12 melodically driven tunes that range from winsome plaints to slightly off-kilter rockers, including seven tracks with hauntingly beautiful strings.

Oh No Oh My collaborated with sound engineers Jeff Byrd (Spoon, John Vanderslice) and Brad Bell (Spoon, Meat Puppets) in recording People Problems, the follow-up to 2008's Dmitrji Dmitrji EP. The album was recorded in the studio of Spoon drummer Jim Eno and at Hoxmeier's Sugarcube studio (named after the Yo La Tengo song).

    Out of Print Since 2005!

Originally released in 2000, Yo La Tengo's triumphant 10th album explores wintry landscapes of love, relationships and life. I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass

A triumphant return to form, this bold, eclectic 80-minute long 2006 album is the pinnacle of Yo La Tengo's 20-year career. From 11-minute long guitar jams to gorgeous ballads to winsome horn-drenched pop songs, I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass is all over the map, in a very good way.

A look back over the last two decades of indie rock and pop history, epitomized in the (intentionally mis-spelled) epic "The Story Of Yo La Tango," I Am Not Afraid Of You and I Will Beat Your Ass features the talents of longtime Nashville producer Roger Moutenot, violinist Dave Mansfield of Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review, and the jacket artistry of Gary Panter (Raw, Jimbo).

Although the title may take a jab at the various critics who have pigeonholed them or left them for dead over the years, the record itself is a gloriously delivered shout of joy and a manifesto for musical freedom in a world increasingly defined by genre. From beginning to end, we defy you to find any music herein that doesn't deserve instant classic status! Matador Records 120g 2LP reissue with MP3 coupon.

I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One

I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is the eighth studio album by the American indie rock band. It was produced by Roger Moutenot and recorded at House of David in Nashville, Tennessee. The album expands the guitar-based pop of its predecessor Electr-O-Pura to encompass a variety of other music genres, including bossa nova, krautrock, and electronic music. Most of the songs on the album deal with melancholy emotions and range from short and fragile ballads to long and open-ended dissonance.

Upon release, Beating as One reached number 19 on the Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, becoming the first Yo La Tengo album to enter the charts. Three songs from the album, Autumn Sweater, Sugarcube, and the cover Little Honda, were released as singles. The album received considerable acclaim from music critics, who praised the band's ability to successfully expand the boundaries of nearly any pop style. The album is widely regarded as the band's best work and is frequently included on several publications' best album lists. In 2010, Rolling Stone placed it at number 86 on its list of 100 Best Albums of the Nineties.

    Fade

Fade is the most direct, personal and cohesive album of Yo La Tengo's career. Recorded with John McEntire at Soma Studios in Chicago, it recalls the sonic innovation and lush cohesion of career high points like 1997's I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One and 2000's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. The album is a tapestry of fine melody and elegant noise, rhythmic shadowplay and shy-eyed orchestral beauty, songfulness and experimentation.

    Popular Songs

Finally back in print, the double vinyl of Yo La Tengo's most recent album, Popular Songs!

The sprawling, 12-track record (including three songs over 8 minutes in length, and one 15 minute jam) is one of their most eclectic and cathartic.

Featuring the Parisian pop of "Avalon or Someone Very Similar," the joyous rocker "Nothing To Hide" and the whimsical "Periodically Double Or Triple."

Recorded in Hoboken and Nashville in early 2009 with longtime associate Roger Mountenot, Popular Songs finds the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew at the height of their creative powers, fashioning an epic work that's cooly confident as it is wildly adventurous.

In the words of Mike Wolf, "Yo La Tengo is not afraid. They walk confidently forward, into the unknown, hand in hand. They may just be hitting their stride."

    Stuff Like That There

Rare is the band that can cover themselves. Rarer is the band that would even think of it and rarer still is a band that would return to the conception and re-imagine its first breakthrough record. Someone may have read recently that old quote about how "in not knowing history one is doomed to repeat it." There's not another band that I know that is less doomed than Yo La Tengo. As stated previously, the album features covers from bands other than themselves: The Cure, Hank Williams, The Lovin' Spoonful and more. Stuff Like That There, a 14 song collection of covers, originals and reworking(s) happens to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Yo La Tengo's landmark 1990 album, Fakebook. Recorded with Gene Holder (The Feelies), Stuff Like That There as the trio of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew augmented by the guitarist and former Yo La Tengo member Dave Schramm, with James negotiating the wonders of the upright bass for the first time. This specific fearsome foursome - playing material from Stuff Like That There and maybe, possibly/probably (we really don't dictate repertoire around here) 'Fakebook' will kick off a world tour on September. This album has be dreamed about by Yo La Tengo fans for decades and the wait is nearly over.

Originally released in 1990, Yo La Tengo's Fakebook is considered by many to be among their best efforts. It is

Kinks "Oklahoma U.S.A.", John Cale's "Andalucia" and the Flamin' Groovies "You Tore Me Down." Their song
"The Summer" and their brilliant take of Daniel Johnston's "Speeding Motorcycle" proved to be the bands first

    Real Estate

REAL ESTATE waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey quartet cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots its no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets. MARTIN COURTNEYs songwriting has a way of wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than the bitter. Add to this MATTHEW MONDANILEs (DUCKTAILS, PREDATOR VISION) shimmering guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the boardwalk clatter of ETIENNE PIERRE DUGUAYs drums, ALEX BLEEKERs staccato low end and the perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away.Andy French (Raven Sings the Blues) Received a Best New Music, 8.5 rating from Pitchfork.

    Electr-O-Pura

Electro-O-Pura is the classic 1995 album from Hoboken, NJ's favorite sons Yo La Tengo that brilliantly bridges the band's underground adventures of yesteryear with the keen sense of melody and mood that would inform many of the group's subsequent releases. The dynamic 14-song set is equally turbulent and subdued, emotionally dark and atmospherically light, yet altogether engaging and ambitious, no better exemplified than on the up-tempo pop number Tom Courtenay and the slow-building Blue Line Swinger. Here To Fall Remixes (Discontinued) (On Sale)

Remixes by De La Soul, RJD2 and Pete Rock!

Yo La Tengo have worked with a huge variety of artists from different genres over the years. In 1997 they released the Autumn Sweaters Remix EP, featuring remixes from Tortoise, Kevin Shields and μ-Ziq. In 1999, they released the Danelectro Remixes, with remixes by Kit Clayton and Nobekazu Takemura. During the early 2000s, the band performed with members of legendary free jazz combo Other Dimensions In Music as well as members of the Sun Ra Arkestra. In 2010, the band presents an EP of remixes of Here To Fall, the lead track from last year's Popular Songs, by De La Soul, RJD2 and Pete Rock.

Here To Fall is the most popular track from Popular Songs, a couple having a tense conversation about the future over the background of menacing, descending chords and distorted wa-wa guitar. Each of these legendary hip hop performers has taken the track and the story and made it their own. Maseo from De La Soul strips the song to its core only to add driving guitars and a heavy groove. RJD2's take is as cool and atmospheric as you'd expect. It is the EP's closer that truly takes the song to the next level, Pete Rock's remix is dusky, minimal, abstract and hypnotic, carving the song down to the discrete elements of the human relationship, then dropping a verse about Yo La Tengo themselves.

    Soap And Water

For his eighth studio record Chuck Prophet relocated to Nashville and bedded down for a month at the Alex the Great Recording Studios with producer Brad Jones (Yo La Tengo, Dolly Parton, Josh Rouse). Chuck is joined here by his own band The Mission Express, Todd Roper (of Cake) on drums and The Spinto Band. They even brought in the local Methodist children's church choir for a few tunes. Soap and Water sees him blending his twisted soul-country-rock; a Alex Chilton-meets-Waylon Jennings via Dylan thing, with that Fender Telecaster he's had since his Green On Red days weaving a singular common thread throughout.

    Volume 2: High And Inside

Following the success of the outfit's first album Vol. 1: Frozen Ropes & Dying Quails -- the band performed on The Late Show with David Letterman, was featured in the official World Series Program and Sports Illustrated among others -- baseball's sardonic rock chroniclers are back with Volume 2: High and Inside, an even more detailed look at the stories behind the stories of America's Favorite Pastime.

Their second season finds band members Steve Wynn (The Miracle 3, The Dream Syndicate), Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows, R.E.M.), Linda Pitmon (The Miracle 3, Golden Smog) and Peter Buck (R.E.M.) drilling down even deeper into the Byzantine, lore-laden annals of baseball history. Volume 2 also includes guests spots by Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan, as well as Chris Funk and John Moen of The Decemberists, dispelling any fears of a sophomore slump.

    Sideways, Sometimes

Reissue of debut album now at a cheaper price as current album "The Age Of Fracture" is getting great press in all the major magazines. Cymbals is Dan, Jack, Neil and Sean. Some of them have played in bands before, but this one is different - it's sort of a romantic thing, some kind of chemistry that makes the songs what they are. Their sound is lean, fast and close, their songs about dancing, fun and forgetting. Recorded over five days on Lightship 95, a boat moored in the Thames, the EP has a clean, more coherent feel. Drawing on Yo La Tengo and New Order, the songs follow a pattern, a circle describing a moment in their lives.

    True Hallucinations

Formed in 2011 by Brian Harding (ex-Hymns) and Amalie Bruun (ex-Minks), the duo self-released a short-run, homespun CD-EP of hazy, lo-fi recordings featuring Harding's opaque bedroom-pop songwriting juxtaposed with the duo's sun-kissed harmonies. Two of the tracks, You Are a Lion, I Am a Lamb b/w The Millionaire, were soon released to the world on vinyl as the premiere release from Other Music Recording Co. and the pair continued to write new songs while simultaneously playing more live shows, now working as a proper five-piece rock band with the addition of good friends Kai Kennedy, Leif Huckman and Sam Bair.

Keeping a handful of Ex Cops' early sessions in place, the newly expanded lineup took to the studio to record True Hallucinations with John Siket (Blonde Redhead, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, etc.) sitting in the production chair. The resulting album is a mind-altering pop pill that maintains the intimate mood of the original group's sound, but now presented in widescreen Technicolor.

    In Between

New Jersey indie-rock pioneers the Feelies are celebrating
their 40th anniversary with the release of "In Between" their
first album of all new material in over 6 years. While working
the post-VU moves they are famous for this album brings
some interesting new sonics into the mix. The album is both
quieter and decibolically furious than anything they've ever
    done.

Impose Magazine recently called The Feelies " one of the
most influential bands in the history of alternative and underground
music" and Rolling Stone cites them as "a template
of formal perfection." They have influenced bands like REM,
Yo La Tengo, Real Estate and WEEZER. "In Between" is rock
and roll that feels both classic and modern.

    IV

New traditionalists Chatham County Line are back with their most ambitious album to date. The North Carolina quartet's fourth album IV, is a boozy blend of Americana and loose acoustic rockers that exhibits the band's ever-evolving style. CCL continues their dedication to traditional instruments by using their love for bluegrass as a base on which to layer an eclectic blend of roots music.

Bluegrass workouts like The Carolinian stand beside pop geared numbers such as Chip of a Star and the hard soul of Birmingham Jail. The progression seen on IV is helped along by indie pop musician and producer Chris Stamey (Yo La Tengo, Alex Chilton, Alejandro Escovedo), making for a starkly heartfelt testament to making the past new again. This is a limited-edition pressing of IV on 180g vinyl.

    White Hot Moon

Ann Arbor's Pity Sex built the world of White Hot Moon, their second album, inch-by-inch. The band is using the foundation of 2013's celebrated Feast of Love as the framework for something bigger, stronger, and altogether more monumental. Coming off of tours with Ceremony, Eskimeaux, and Colleen Green-including a run in Australia-the band dove into the studio with Feast of Love producer Will Yip to harness that momentum into an album to showcase Pity Sex's growth. And if White Hot Moon wears its ambition on its sleeve, that's by design: the band looked to wide-screen albums by Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth for inspiration in finding a bigger sound. That shows: Drake and Greaves spin huge webs of sound, anchored in shoegaze but branching off in a dozen directions, from fuzzed-out power-pop ("Bonhomie") to shimmering balladry ("Dandelion") and back again, while St. Charles and Pierce lock into step subtly counterintuitive rhythms and floor-shaking low-end. The result of this playful but dedicated approach to their craft: wherever you visit White Hot Moon, you'll come away refreshed, revitalized, and ready for Pity Sex to guide you along the rest of the trip.
