    USB Dac 25.3

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

We significantly upgraded the award winning dac25.2 to the dac25.3. The upgrade was to the USB input which now accepts 24bit/96kHz signals. The dac25.3 is natively compatible with Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 and Mac OS X.

Today an increasing number of music lovers are buying storing and listening to music through their computer, media server, or personal music player (iPod). Many are also digitally distributing their music using a sonos, squeezebox, or one of a host of digital music distribution systems available on the market. This is a great way to explore and appreciate music but generally it's done at the expense of sound quality. Until now music lovers have been forced to rely on the inferior digital to analog converters (DACs) and sounds cards contained in those devices. As a result, their musical enjoyment has dramatically suffered. We designed the dac25.3 to directly address this problem and to significantly improve the sound quality of the music played on these systems.

By uniting a state of the art digital to analog converter with a tube output we produce the clarity and precision of a 24bit DAC with the warm rich open sound people love of tubes. The dac25.3 has 4 digital inputs which can accept any coax (s/pdif), optical, XLR (AES/EBU), or USB digital input from an iPod transport, computer, media server, sonos, squeezebox, CD/DVD in stereo transport, or music hall's own cd35.2 compact disc player, and it will output two channel stereo analog.

The dac25.3 features the latest texas instruments (formerly burr-brown) PCM 1796 24bit/192kHz, advanced segment, stereo audio digital to analog converter. This processor features 123dB dynamic range an 8 x oversampling digital filter and just 0.0005% thd. The dac25.3 upsamples to either 96kHz or 192kHz which is user selectable on the front panel. To achieve the best sound we use an advanced asynchronous reclocking and anti jitter control system upstream of the PCM 1796 DAC. For this system we are using the philips 74HC574 in conjunction with the ti SRC4192 asynchronous sample rate converter whose master clock is a high precision active crystal oscillator. The dac25.3 also features a large r-core high current oversize power transformer. A headphone output is provided for convenient personal listening.

    Marantz MM8077 Amplifier

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

Designed for the ultimate music and movie surround sound experience, the Marantz MM8077 7-channel power amplifier delivers power and detail, and is rated at 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 180 watts per channel into 6 ohms.

The power supply features a high current toroidal power transformer along with high power (71WVDC) filter capacitors with a total 100,000µF capacitance to easily handle sharp short-term transient peaks.

Featuring our unique current feedback discrete power amp output stages that are identical for all channels, the MM8077 is equipped with multiple high current discrete power transistors that feature high slew rate and wide operating bandwidth to extract the most detail from today's high resolution audio formats.

The output devices are mounted on our unique dual extruded aluminum alloy heat sink assembly, configured in a tunnel arrangement that provides both passive and active cooling. The massive heat sinks feature multiple ribbed fins that provide a large passive cooling area, and the assembly is book-ended with a whisper quiet fan that automatically kicks in to provide near silent active cooling when the soundtrack heats up. As the fan is mounted internally directly to the heat sinks, and not externally to the chassis cover as is often the case, even when it's running, it's designed to be whisper quiet.

For maximum connectivity, the MM8077 features both unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs, and each amp channel can be configured to use your choice of input connector. The loudspeaker terminals feature audiophile-grade construction, and are gold-plated for maximum signal transfer, and they can easily handle a wide range of audiophile speaker cable connectors.

The MM8077 features a DC trigger input for external power on/off control, and there's also dual RC-5 remote control in/out jacks for connection to a compatible Marantz A/V pre-amp/processor.

The copper-plated chassis provides isolation from extraneous noise, and features a multi-layer reinforced bottom panel assembly for maximum rigidity along with triple-layer top cover. Elegantly finished in anodized black satin, the MM8077 features the classic Marantz ringed porthole display with a blue illumination accent that includes a display on/off function.

Shielded Solid Silver Conductor Interconnect Cables

Bob's Devices continues to break the price barrier by offering top quality audiophile cables at 1/3 the price of competitive products. All our cables are hand crafted, fully balanced, individually tested and terminated with top of the line Cardas Audio SRCA and the new Cardas XLR connectors. For those of you who prefer RCA locking connectors, we offer the Vampire LRCA-8 Locking connectors with spring loaded center pin.. The interior connections are resistance soldered and dampened in pure Teflon wrap.

The silver and silver clad interconnects are terminated using WBT silver solder. As always, we back our cables with our 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. All Bob's interconnects feature a balanced type of architecture with internal conductors carrying the + and - signal with an additional braided conductive shield that is connected on one end only. This provides shielding effectively rejecting RF and EM interference without creating ground loops (say goodbye to hum).

Three lines of cables are offered: cables with Solid Silver conductors, cables with Silver-clad copper conductors and our limited production vintage cables constructed with copper conductors.

This Solid Silver custom terminated interconnect is Bob's top-of-the-line cable. It features a pair of pure silver 22 awg conductors and triple-shielding consisting of a silver plated OFC braided shield coupled to an Aluminum/Mylar shield and a Teflon PTFE shield. Covering the shield is a braided nylon sheath encased in a clear PVC outer jacket. Internally, this cable has 5 polyethylene air tubes separating and isolating the conductors.

Bob's silver cable is custom terminated in our lab with your choice of the best Cardas SRCA or the new Cardas XLR connectors.

Bob's custom terminated silver-clad crystal copper interconnects feature a balanced design architecture using Polyethylene insulation and a pair of silver plated copper conductors (SP-OFC) that are insulated with Foamed Polyethylene, and wrapped together by a double screen shielding consisting of a tinned OFC braided shield coupled to an Aluminum/Mylar shield. This wire architecture is modeled from the wire Koetsu uses to wrap their Platinum magnets. We believe the results will thrill you with exhilarating highs, tight bass, and romantic mids - very much the Koetsu paradigm. These interconnects not only shine with tube equipment but do especially well with a solid-state phono stage and preamp.

The silver clad copper wire uses the UP-OCCP (Ultra Pure - Ohno Continuous Casting Process) which is a continuous-casting method that was developed by Professor Ohno of the Chiba Institute in Japan. This wire is free from impurities (up to 99.99998% pure copper and silver). Accordingly, it is able to transmit electrical signals faster, and with less distortion than ordinary OFC and silver wires.

Bob silver-clad copper interconnects are custom terminated in our lab using the very best Cardas SRCA or the new Cardas XLR connectors. Vampire LC-8 locking connectors are also available.

    Cripple Crow

Banhart's fourth critically acclaimed album, released in September 2005, now available for the first time on vinyl. Cripple Crow has scanned over 30,000 units to date. The release of this double LP coincides with a host of summer tour dates. ...pure folk-flavored whimsy, reminiscent of Tim Buckley and 1970's cosmic pinup Marc Bolan - Blender. ...there's something about Banhart's muse that defies words and logic, something to these songs that hints at a deeper connection to the cosmos than most of us share. Jeff Buckley might have had that gift; John Lennon and Van Morrison certainly did. Add to that list Devendra Banhart, an astonishing talent whose future work promises to bring us to exciting new places - Harp.

LP3 is the third studio album from Ratatat and the follow-up to 2006's Classics. Whereas Classics took some time to record, LP3 came together over the course of just a few weeks in October and November of last year. The album was recorded at Old Soul, a private studio in Catskill, NY which lays claim to a wealth of keyboard instruments of which nearly all are featured on LP3. Mike Stroud's characteristic guitar style is still present on the record but there are an abundance of new textures, from wurlitzer and mellotron, to even live percussion rather than programmed. This vinyl version is housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes an MP3 coupon.

Med Sud I Vid Spilum Endalaust

Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Ros adopted a looser approach in creating their fifth album Med Sud I Vid Spilum Endalaust. The album consequently is fresher and more human than anything they've previously recorded.

Rough edges, cracked notes, and the sound of fingers on strings are audible resulting in tracks (e.g. Illgresi) that prove to be the band's sparsest and most affecting work to date. Worry not though, plenty of electric guitar can be heard throughout the album ensuring Sigur Ros' commitment to challenging sonic limitations.

Med Sud I Vid Spilum Endalaust is truly a groundbreaking album for Sigur Ros. It's the first time they've attempted to write, record, mix, release and support (by touring) an album in the same year. Notoriously known for their laborious writing/recording style and their Icelandic roots, Sigur Ros decided to record an album outside of Iceland for the first time. Recording, mixing and mastering sessions took place in such un-Reykjavik cities as New York (Sear Sound and Sterling Sound), London (Abbey Road and Assault & Battery) and Havana. The result is pretty much their leave home album, the anti-Heima.

The opening track, Gobbledigook, is a manifesto setter with its shifting/no time signature. On the last track, All Alright, Sigur Ros find themselves singing a song solely in English for the first time. The seventh track, Ára Bátur, was performed with a full orchestra and the London Oratory Boys Choir. This was recorded in one take with no overdubs and the result was 90 people playing at once and just one perfect take. This is their first album working with Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey) and the first since their debut to not be recorded with Ken Thomas. It was a true co-production, one that found Sigur Ros breaking out of old molds/habits. Double LP on high quality 180g vinyl.

Sigur Ros' fifth album is the Icelandic band's most worldly, varied and impetuous. The band achieves a new unity in variety here, winding from near-glam romp and fireside-folk warmth to slow-climb grandeur with an attention to the repeated payoff in a sturdy hook and hum-along chorus. (4 Stars) - Rolling Stone

Old-fashioned psychedelic grandeur is revived with otherwordly majesty and inexorable crescendos, a typically majestic but uncharacteristically summery album, with jolts of percussive energy and connotations of sunlight and air. - New York Times

    Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon

During spring of 2007, Devendra Banhart and his band took up residence and built a studio in a house in Topanga Canyon. Topanga is located in the Santa Monica mountains and is bound on one side by the Pacific Ocean. Neil Young once lived there while recording After the Gold Rush and the area has also been home to Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal, Joni Mitchell, Mick Fleetwood and members of the Doors. Those ghosts inhabit the sound and vibe of these recording sessions.

Everyone wants to say that an artistsÆ new album is the best thing theyÆve ever done, but this is truly the case here. The whole ôfreak folkö tag is gone and in its place is a classic, gorgeous rock album. There are songs that are fragile and solipsistic, ones with a pronounced Tropicalia influence, and ones that are wildly electric and epic.

ôAn old-fashioned psychedelic folk opusàhis strongest music since 2004Æs Ni±o Rojo, if not his best ever.ö - Rolling Stone

ôUnflinchingly imaginative and thoroughly charming, except maybe more so. One of the few new singer-songwriters whose every work is more highly anticipated than the last.ö - Harp

    The Airing of Grievances

Glen Rock, New Jersey is a small, safe suburban enclave to the west of New York City and is home to 23-year-old Patrick Stickles, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band Titus Andronicus. He was joined by his old Glen Rock friends Ian Graetzer on bass and Andrew Cedermark on guitar, and they became part of a local scene that comprised about 16 bands. This scene provided the backdrop for the formation of Titus Andronicus. The band is now a five-piece, and includes Ian OÆNeil on guitar and Eric Harm on drums.

Stickles brings to Titus Andronicus one of the most distinctive voices that we have heard in some time. With breathless fury, he tells stories of life lessons learned that most folks spend their entire lives trying to verbalize, of simple twists of fate with grave consequences, of losing the ability to trust someone close to you, of the futility of life versus the finality of death. He launches his insights across a wall of defiant, triumphant rock anthems, which have earned Titus Andronicus comparisons to such iconoclasts as Bruce Springsteen, the Pogues and The Replacements. Moreover, the band paints a picture of desperation offset by the sheer wonder of life; its music basks in the struggle.

Recorded at Marcata Recording in New Paltz, NY in the second half of 2007, The Airing of Grievances is Titus AndronicusÆ debut album, following a pair of seven-inch singles and an early EP. The album received plenty of praise from places like Spin Magazine, Pitchfork and a plethora of blogs upon itÆs initial release in May of 2008. This new XL Recordings version has been newly re-mastered.

Discovery is the recording project of Rostam Batmanglij and Wes Miles, friends who began recording together in the summer of 2005. One year later they had committed themselves to their respective bands, Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot, but nonetheless continued to record together when they both found themselves in the same city. The project is many things: it's partly an attempt to realize Wes' concept of a band where everyone plays synthesizers, and of Rostam's concept for an album where handclaps keep the backbeat instead of snares drums. It's an embrace and also a commentary on the pop music of the past decade, of booming 808 bass and jittery sixteenth note high-hats. Elements of European electronic dance music skittering in double-time over steady R&B. If soul music is secularized, sexualized gospel, Discovery is an attempt to see if soul music can survive being plasticized, roboticized, quantized, chopped, and finally, screwed. The album features Rostam and Wes each singing half the songs and guest vocals from Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend) and Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projecters).

    Blue Roses (Discontinued) (On Sale)

Laura Groves began writing songs as a teenager in Yorkshire. With an old family piano and a borrowed guitar, thinking of the records she loved, lyrics that broke her heart, phrasing that made it race, composers cradling her aspirations. Influences spanning genres and generations; from Bart?k to Bush, Tiersen to Tears For Fears, Debussy to Du Maurier. She dreamt of writing, arranging, performing and producing an album that would be as treasured by someone else, and hopefully inspire them in the same way.

The journey from then until now has not only given her more years, but more confidence, more experience of life, the courage to let the music express when words seem too restrictive. The name Blue Roses is encompassing; it is more than just one person and their sole aspirations, it is what happened in making the album, this process gave the need for another, more representative name. Blue Roses is the story, with Laura Groves as the protagonist. Included is a cast of family members to play instruments and a choir of firm friends, acquaintances and perfect strangers gathered together in a caf? to help. A small amount of money and a little faith was stretched with the benevolence and enthusiasm of those who stood at each door. From recording in living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms in various houses, to recording a Steinway in a local piano shop (a millionaire, who despite having paid a five-figure sum for the concert grand piano, was enchanted enough by the story and the music to allow Laura to record with it before it was moved to entertain guests his Lake District hotel). The equipment graciously bought and generously lent, (most of which was older than Laura herself, some of which was of pensionable age) put her on a sonic par with her idols and instilled in her a romance which translated through the Neumann, the Gibson and Wurlitzer, the Neve. The valves, the plates, the springs, the tape, transformers and circuitry are as musical as the instruments and voices passing through them, and are part of the story, the color between the lines.

    XX

The XX arrive with their debut album XX, a whole new sound of love, loss and longing. The XX are a London quartet, featuring the dual lead vocals of Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim (who also play lead guitar and bass guitar), Baria Qureshi (keyboards and guitar) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC sampler). These four twenty year olds are childhood friends who formed while attending southwest London's Elliot School, an academy whose alumni also includes such acclaimed boundary-pushers as Burial, Four Tet and Hot Chip. Bonding over a shared love of dark, emotive '80s guitar sounds and the high-end sheen of American R&B, The XX's unique sound befits a band whose wide range of influences include everything from Aaliyaah to Cocorosie, Rihanna to The Cure, Missy Elliot to The Chromatics and Mariah Carey to The Pixies.

In an effort not to draw too much distance from the DIY aesthetic of their early demos, which were recorded in their bedrooms, they recorded their debut album XX under no one's watch, other than engineer Rodaidh McDonald, at XL Recordings' west London in-house studio. The result is a wash of sexy, coy, and sparse rhythms and melodies the likes of Robert Smith, Massive Attack and The Streets.

Vinyl also die cut with bonus track cover of Hot Like Fire.

    Riceboy Sleeps

Known primarily for his haunting falsetto and other-worldly presence as the singer in Sigur Ros, Jon Thor Birgisson has, together with his partner Alex Somers, been exhibiting artwork and staging exhibitions under the name Riceboy Sleeps for two or three years now, including the release of a limited edition picture book. A couple of months back the early fruits of the musical side of this collaboration surfaced in physical form for the first time, with the track Happiness, on the exemplary Dark Was The Night Red Hot compilation.

Riceboy Sleeps is human in a profound and verging-on spiritual way. It says nothing, literally, and yet living through its 68-minutes you emerge feeling much has been revealed. Its slowly evolving abstract landscapes are both edifying and life-affirming. The record works as a whole, and exists in a contemplative dream-state, unconstrained and mesmeric, seemingly outside time. The record, however, is more active than its apparent antecedents in the ambient output of Brian Eno, and other deliberately low-impact works. Riceboy Sleeps is awash with both tension and stimuli, as well as being frequently, and stunningly, beautiful.

Played solely on acoustic instruments in Iceland and featuring long-time string collaborators Amiina, as well as the Kopavogsdaetur choir, Riceboy Sleeps has a suitably organic feel. The full-length Riceboy Sleeps album (the name having migrated from artist moniker to album title) is set to subtly redefine expectations of slow and elegiac instrumental music in 2009.

    Contra

2008 was quite a year for Vampire Weekend. After the release of their eponymous debut album in January, the New York quartet graced the cover of Spin Magazine, played on almost every television program from Saturday Night Live to David Letterman, and toured the world several times over including stops at the Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals. They regrouped in early 2009 to begin the recording of their sophomore album, Contra. Like their first, Contra was produced by keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij and is the realization of a whole and unique musical vision that sees the band stretching out and adding new textures, instrumentation, and rhythms into their sound. Primarily recorded in New York with a springtime sojourn to Mexico, Contra feels altogether fresh, joyous, and like nothing else, but is immediately recognizable as the sound of Vampire Weekend.

    I'm New Here

Gil Scott-Heron is one of the most influential and important singer/songwriters to have come out of America in the second half of the last century. Much can be said about why Gil's lyrics are so original and powerful, but it is important not to overlook his utterly singular voice which is so distinctive and rough and tender. It's a voice of experience and the way his voice floats over the shifting funk rhythms and the deep jazz, soul and blues melodies is nothing short of sublime. It's also what enables him to draw you in to the difficult issues he does not shy away from dealing with. His sound is intimate and warm and direct and consequently it is hard to resist being moved and inspired by his message. Gil has been consistently relevant whether it be on a personal or political canvas.

Early on in his career he wrote and recorded the song that for many is regarded as one of the first great rap tracks,The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. From its opening lines which turn Timothy Leary on his addled head (You will not be able to stay home brother. You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out. You will not be able to lose yourself on scag brother, because the revolution will not be televised.), Gil threw down the gauntlet, challenging us to get involved, be informed, retain a sense of humour and do the right thing. He was angry, politically savvy, compassionate and very funny. When he was brought to Arista by Clive Davis in 1975, he was billed by the label as the black Bob Dylan, and whilst this reductive and over simplistic description is typical marketing bullshit, there is some raison d'etre for this moniker. For Gil is a protest poet of enormous subtlety who has railed against those things in the world that he believes are wrong. And like Dylan he has often used humour as a powerful weapon.

A new record from Gil Scott-Heron, 40 years after his first solo album, is a cause for major celebration and something that the world needs now more than ever.

    The Monitor

The Monitor was recorded this past August (2009) by producer and engineer Kevin McMahon at his studio Marcata Recording in New Paltz, NY. The usual suspects from the world of Titus Andronicus were all in attendance, as well as members of Ponytail, Wye Oak, Vivian Girls, and the Hold Steady. McMahon also mixed the album, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi whom the band chose because he is the only person alive who can claim involvement in both The Chemistry of Common Life by Fucked Up and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell by Meat Loaf!

    Go

Jonsi has spent more than a decade writing epic compositions with Sigur Ros, creating some of the finest, most acclaimed albums of the last ten years. The choice to make an album of solo recordings came together as a solution to a backlog of songs Jonsi had written that didn't seem to fit within the Sigur Ros context. Go is a different beast entirely. Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features Jonsi's signature vocals throughout, with the majority of the songs sung in English.

Not a straight ahead pop record, nor rock, folk, ambient or electronic, it encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette that's been brought to life by Jonsi alongside a number of free-spirited collaborators. Chief among these is Nico Muhly, the Philip Glass protege who is renowned for his work with Bjork, Antony & The Johnsons, Bonnie Prince Billy and Grizzly Bear. Also in the mix is the percussive genius of Samuli Kosminen, whose original drumming powers many of the songs along so you have a sonic landscape that bears little relation to anything else around today, yet explodes from the speakers with sheer happiness and wonder, wide-eyed and eager to be heard. The album was recorded in Iceland and Connecticut, was co-produced by Jonsi, Alex Somers and Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) and was mixed by Tom Elmhirst in London.

    LP4

Ratatat's new album LP4 is the next step forward on the work that Evan Mast and Mike Stroud began on LP3. It was conceived during the creative streak that began during the LP3 sessions at Old Soul studios, in rural Upstate New York. The period in between albums also saw Ratatat branch out into production with two tracks featured on Kid Cudi's debut album, including the single Pursuit of Happiness.

The band describe LP4 as a weirder album than LP3, with a much braver approach to the arrangements. There are more instruments featured on the record than ever before, and for the first time a full string section. The album also features a number of spoken word interludes, one taken from Werner Herzog's film Stroszeck in which the lead character Bruno S describes the keyboards he owns. The other samples are all courtesy of Linda Manz, the first taken from Terence Mallick's period drama Days Of Heaven. While trying to clear the sample, Evan unexpectedly ended up on the phone with Linda herself. The call resulted in a trip to Linda's house, where he recorded an interview with her, excerpts from which make up the remaining vocal samples.
