Enter The Wu-Tang Clan (36 Chambers)

Ranked 386/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Along with Dr. Dre's The Chronic, the Wu-Tang Clan's debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was one of the most influential rap albums of the '90s. Its spare yet atmospheric production -- courtesy of RZA -- mapped out the sonic blueprint that countless other hardcore rappers would follow for years to come. It laid the groundwork for the rebirth of New York hip-hop in the hardcore age, paving the way for everybody from Biggie and Jay-Z to Nas and Mobb Deep. Moreover, it introduced a colorful cast of hugely talented MCs, some of whom ranked among the best and most unique individual rappers of the decade. Some were outsized, theatrical personalities, others were cerebral storytellers and lyrical technicians, but each had his own distinctive style, which made for an album of tremendous variety and consistency. Every track on Enter the Wu-Tang is packed with fresh, inventive rhymes, which are filled with martial arts metaphors, pop culture references (everything from Voltron to Lucky Charms cereal commercials to Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were), bizarre threats of violence, and a truly twisted sense of humor. Their off-kilter menace is really brought to life, however, by the eerie, lo-fi production, which helped bring the raw sound of the underground into mainstream hip-hop. Starting with a foundation of hard, gritty beats and dialogue samples from kung fu movies, RZA kept things minimalistic, but added just enough minor-key piano, strings, or muted horns to create a background ambience that works like the soundtrack to a surreal nightmare. There was nothing like it in the hip-hop world at the time, and even after years of imitation, Enter the Wu-Tang still sounds fresh and original. Subsequent group and solo projects would refine and deepen this template, but collectively, the Wu have never been quite this tight again. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

Ol' Dirty Bastard rose to fame in the world renowned Hip Hop gang Wu-Tang Clan. His vocal input in Wu-Tang's Enter The Wu-Tang added comic relief and unpredictability to the overt gangsta lyrics, so when producer RZA worked with him to capitalize on his unique style on his own solo album, ODB jumped (probably literally) at the chance.

Return To The 36 Chambers (1995) is chock full of his rants, growls, schtick and off-beat rhymes. After release, Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Brooklyn Zoo quickly became true Hip Hop classics. An entertainer in his own right, ODB was perhaps one of the realest rappers out there, and unfortunately died in his prime in 2004.

Dan The Automator's And Kool Keith's Famed Collaboration From The Mid-'90s

28 Tracks Over 3 LPs Including 5 Unreleased Songs (Originals + Remixes)

Housed In A Custom, Octagonal Box

    Features Original Pushead Cover Artwork

Includes A 40-Page Liner Notes Booklet

Dan The Automator's and Kool Keith's famed collaboration from the mid-'90s is celebrated with a 28-track set housed in a custom, octagonal box, with 5 unreleased songs (originals + remixes); original Pushead cover artwork; and 40 page liner notes booklet.

By the mid-1990s, the rap game had been through a lot in its two decades of existence: Early-days scraping to get by and be heard; The advent of sampling; The rise of groups ranging from Run-DMC to the Wu-Tang Clan and the sprawl of Dr. Dre's shadow from the West across the globe; and solo juggernauts ranging from MC Hammer to the Notorious B.I.G.

Thankfully, though, with everything that the genre had been through, there was still a lot of room to grow. And in early 1996, a new indie duo appeared that won over a whole new international audience, from hard rocks to skate punks. That pair was Dr. Octagon: Dan "The Automator" Nakamura and Kool Keith [Thornton].

In some ways, the Dr. Octagon album is a solo release. But Keith wasn't the only hand on deck. He brought along a young, New York-based MC with him: Sir Menelik. Menelik was featured on four album tracks, starting with "Dr. Octagon," and proved to be an excellent super-scientifical, fast-rhyming foil to Keith. And there was one final featured contributor who helped add to the album's next-level sound: San Francisco's DJ Q*Bert, who cuts on half of the album's songs.

The album originally came out on The Automator's Bulk Recordings label in early 1996, with cover art by metal and punk cult hero visual artist Pushead. Pressing numbers weren't huge, but as the year went on, the buzz grew, and a slightly expanded version of the album was released on James Lavelle's London-based Mo Wax label. Then Dan took an offer from newly-formed major label DreamWorks, to re-release the album with extra tracks in mid-1997. The new domestic pressing allowed for a bigger press push, as well as the group's first and only video, for "Blue Flowers."

Beyond "Blue Flowers," the album is chock-full of mind-bending tracks, like "Earth People"; the wacked-out but sincere love ballad "Girl Let Me Touch You"; the metal-tinged "I'm Destructive"; Q-Bert's turntable workout "Bear Witness"; and, of course, freaky Keith skits like "Elective Surgery" and "General Hospital".Dr. Octagonecologyst is one of the most unique rap records the genre has ever seen, and this is the perfect way to celebrate it - whether it's the first time you have heard this mind-expanding record or the three thousandth.

    Liquid Swords

According to legend, when the Wu-Tang Clan formed like Voltron on their debut album in 1993, GZA happened to be the headan appropriate place for a man also called The Genius. Yet at the time few could have predicted that his 1995 masterpiece Liquid Swords would be considered one of the most substantial lyrical journeys in hip-hop history (Chicago Tribune). At the peak of his powers as a producer, Wu-Tang mastermind RZA crafted the album's distinctive soundtrack at his basement studio in Staten Island; a haunting landscape of dusty samples, sharp snares and menacing urban gloom, with frequent interludes of dialogue from the classic Samurai flick Shogun Assassin. Cerebral, strategic and precise with his words, GZA crystallizes a range of influencesfrom chess to kung-fu films to mob flicks and Eastern philosophyinto sharply delivered rhymes. The album features appearances by the entire Wu-Tang Clan, and includes the auspicious debut of Killah Priest on B.I.B.L.E. Acknowledged as one of the 100 Best Rap Albums (The Source) and Top 100 Records of the 1990s (Pitchfork.com), Get On Down is proud to present Liquid Swords as it was intended to be experienced, on double vinyl with audio remastered from the original source tapes.

    The Infamous

The Infamous is the second studio album by the American Hip Hop duo Mobb Deep, released in 1995. The album features guest apperances from Nas, Wu-Tang Clan members, Reakwon and Ghostface Killah. It marked Mobb Deep's transition from a relatively unknown Rap duo to an influential and commercially successful one.

One of the cornerstones of the New York hardcore movement, The Infamous is Mobb Deep's masterpiece, a relentlessly bleak song cycle that's been hailed by hardcore Rap fans as one of the most realistic gangsta albums ever recorded.

This is hard, underground Hip Hop that demands to be met on its own terms, with few melodic hooks to draw the listener in. Similarly, there's little pleasure or relief offered in the picture of the streets Mobb Deep paint here. They inhabit a war zone where crime and paranoia hang constantly in the air.

The product of an uncommon artistic vision, The Infamous stands as an all-time gangsta/hardcore classic.

Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version

It's safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol' Dirty Bastard's 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB's unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan's landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks (Damage, with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles Brooklyn Zoo and Shimmy Shimmy Ya) and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence (Don't U Know and the R&B-tinged Sweet Sugar Pie). Backed by RZA's appropriately gritty, dissonant beats and appearances from the Clan, Return became an instant hit, selling over 1 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 1996. The album stands as a high water mark in the Wu-Tang Clan's collective creative output and was selected as one of the Best 100 Rap Albums by The Source magazine in 1998. In honoring the legacy of one of hip-hop's most innovative releases, Get On Down is proud to present this incredible and unique special edition of Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version on double LP.

    Temples of Boom

With this album Cypress Hill turned towards a more tranquil, sedate, slower, spooky sound with beats. The dark mood of this album reflects the strife within the band during this era, when member Sen Dog temporarily left the band to pursue other projects.

On this album both Wu-Tang Clan members RZA and U-God make appearances on Killa Hill Niggas. Also notable was track No Rest For The Wicked which ignited the feud between Cypress Hill and rapper Ice Cube, who they claimed, stole material from the band. At the time this album was well received by critics worldwide.

Q - 4 Stars - Excellent - The production is sophisticated, incorporating Indian sitar and sloping, almost psychedelic bass grooves to create a vaguely threatening ambient hardcore.
Melody Maker - Bloody Essential - resonates with freakish cheese-wire paranoia a gobsmacking paradox of expansive claustrophobia. The funk patters like an erratic heartbeat, the voices are stretched to bursting with menace and loathing and mockery

Liquid Swords is the second solo studio album from Wu-Tang Clan member GZA. Upon its initial release, Liquid

    The W

Numbered, Limited Edition On Crystal Clear Vinyl

The W is the third studio album by the world's baddest Hip Hop group Wu-Tang Clan. Released in 2000, the album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200, and instantly topped the R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart after release. Containing the hit Gravel Pit, the album was certified Platinum a few months later.

After their 1997 album WU-TANG FOREVER and several solo projects, The W has a more rugged, less polished sound than most Wu-Tang related albums from that era. Group mastermind RZA produced The W with roughed up Soul samples and tight, tough beats. Paranoid kung fu samples and bizarre sounds drive the fantastic nightmare. The back-to-basics approach (the group's massive debut ENTER THE WU-TANG comes to mind) works so well because it puts the focus back on some of the best rappers in the game.

The album also features guest appearances from Isaac Hayes, Redman, Nas, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.

    The Pretty Toney Album

There's no Wu Tang Clan MC, outside of Ol' Dirty Bastard, who raps for broke like Ghostface, as if each album might be his last. Ghostface continues this tradition of flipping the most indescribable, gritty, grimy, and painfully honest rhymes imaginable. Ignoring current rap trends--i.e., Kanye West-style sampling and speeding up of old soul loops--Ghostface doesn't mask his samples or up the b.p.m.'s. On the choice cuts Holla and Be This Way, he spits fire over great old-school Delfonics and Billy Stewart samples. Of course this is not surprising considering Ghost often says he doesn't care much for contemporary rap music. His flows magically capture the full range of human emotion on It's Over and the RZA-produced Run. Don't be fooled by the relatively frail single Tush (featuring Missy Elliott) because it's not at all indicative of how strong the album is. --Dalton Higgins

2014 is the 20th anniversary of Tical, the debut solo album of Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man, released November 15, 1994, on Def Jam Records. It
was the first Wu-Tang solo album released after the group's debut,Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Similar to all first generation solo Wu-Tang
projects, Tical was mainly produced by group member RZA. The album features guest appearances from several Wu-Tang members including RZA,
Raekwon, & Inspectah Deck. The album was a commercial success, reaching number four on the Billboard 200, and number one on the Top R&B/Hip
Hop Albums chart. On July13, 1995, it was certified platinum. This success was driven by its two singles, Bring the Pain and I'll Be There for You/You're
All I Need to Get By. Tical has since been hailed by several music critics as a hip hop classic and its success is matched by its influence as a major piece
