1969's Bound to Happen was the last-and, in many ways, most brilliant-collaboration between Soul singer William Bell and Stax label-mate Booker T. Jones. The Andy Williams Christmas Album (Awaiting Repress)

    Limited Edition Translucent Red Vinyl

Popular songs are often associated with the vocalists that made them famous but few artists actually have the distinction of having a theme song along the lines of Bob Hope with Thanks for the Memories. Even fewer can claim to have two theme songs attached to them and Andy Williams is one of those fortunate stars. After Moon River became forever linked to Williams, he recorded a holiday song for his first Christmas album that gave him a yuletide hit and theme song.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year was the right song at the right time for Williams when he began to perform it on his highly successful NBC Christmas specials that featured the whole Williams clan. Both the song and the television specials were so memorable, it wasn't long before Williams was crowned Mr. Christmas. Of course having a full album of wonderful holiday songs perfectly performed doesn't hurt either and the Andy Williams Christmas Album was an instant hit when released in 1963 and has since become a traditional classic. Along with It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Williams cheerfully celebrates with the spirited medley Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season and is at his playful best on the irresistibly raucous Kay Thompson's Jingle Bells.

He also wraps his voice around chestnuts like White Christmas and The Christmas Song with all the warmth of a favorite blanket, while a soaring version of O Holy Night is both enchanting and moving. His tender reading of the lesser-known Sweet Little Jesus Boy is as beautiful and serene as a crystal clear winter's night, but it is the instantly catchy opening line of It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year that people remember the most. It is a fitting theme song not only for Andy Mr.Christmas Williams, but for the season as well and a sparkling highlight from a classic holiday album.

    MEmphis Rock And Soul

Melissa Etheridge has announced the release of her new album MEmphis Rock and Soul, a tribute to Stax Records and the rich history of classic Southern soul, scheduled for release via Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group. The album is a collection of deep soul covers associated with the original Stax label, including songs recorded by Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, The Staple Singers, William Bell and more. The album also features new, original verses written by Melissa on two of the tracks.

While the original Stax studio is long gone, Etheridge took to another hallowed local spot, Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios (home to Al Green, Ann Peebles and others), to channel the classic Memphis sounds found on these soulful standards. MEmphis Rock and Soul was produced by Willie's son Boo Mitchell, and features a backing band comprised of Hodges Brothers and other top Memphis musicians who are legends in their own right. Etheridge even recorded with Al Green's famed RCA 77DX ribbon microphone (No. 9"). MEmphis Rock and Soul also spotlights the empowering role Stax played in the Civil Rights Movement, a fitting theme for Melissa, who has become a pivotal voice of the modern LGBT rights movement.

Walton: Facade / Lecocq: Mamzelle Angot

Mastered By Willem Makee From The Original Master Tapes

Antole Fistoulari conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden performing Sir William Walton's Façade and Charles Alexandre Lecocq's Mamzelle Angot. Working with the Royal Ballet Orchestra in Covent Garden under Fistoulari, engineer Ken Cross and producer Michael Williamson created another Decca/RCA masterpiece. It's hard to know where to begin with a record this good. The top - the high end - of this recording is simply as well recorded as any RCA there is.

Undeniable transparency, snap, detail and body on cymbals, bells and woodblocks. The same virtues, along with the added virtue of harmonic richness extends into the midrange. Strings are sweet, diaphanous, transparent and a bit bright, without being irritating. Brass and woodwinds - which in this piece carry much of the thematic load - are particularly well reproduced.

    Recorded in Walthamstow Assembly Hall

    Producer: Michael Williamson

    Engineer: Ken Cross

    Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics

The Delfonics is the quintessential sweet-soul group. Hailing from Philadelphia, the crew formed in the mid-'60s, with the definitive original lineup as lead
vocalist and songwriter William Hart, his brother Wilbert Hart, and mutual high-school friend Randy Cain (later replaced by Major Harris). With the help of
producer/arranger Thom Bell-and with William's signature falsetto-the Delfonics set the tone for all other sweet-soul groups that would follow.

Between 1968 and 1974, the Delfonics had twenty charting singles and won a Grammy for their massive hit Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time). Out of
their twenty hits, William Hart wrote or co-wrote eighteen of them, thirteen with collaborator Thom Bell, like La-La Means I Love You, He Don't Really
Love You, and Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide From Love). After five albums, the Delfonics would break up for good in 1975. Brothers William and
Wilbert parted ways and over the years often toured separately with different forms of the group. But over forty years after writing his first hit, lead singer
and songwriter William Hart has put his unmistakable falsetto back on analog tape and reinvented the Delfonics brand for a new generation.

Los Angeles producer/composer Adrian Younge envisioned a modern-day Delfonics album and pitched the idea to William Hart, who hopped a plane from
Philly to L.A. and began work on a new album. Younge helped to reshape the Delfonics by bringing on board two excellent young vocalists, Loren Oden
and Saudia Mills-as well as Om'Mas Keith on the single Stop and Look (And You Have Found Love)-to work alongside William. Adrian Younge is a
self-taught multi-instrumentalist who traded in his MPC sampler for a carefully curated studio of authentic gear. Younge rocketed to international
recognition after composing the original score for the film Black Dynamite and has since release ground-breaking projects including The Souls of
Mischief's "There Is Only Now" and Ghostface Killah's "Twelve Reasons to Die" concept albums.

Younge brings a unique perspective on modern rhythm and blues. I was studying Delfonics stuff for years, Younge reveals. I studied Delfonics to do the
Black Dynamite stuff. I've been a fan, and I've just studied their music for so long that when I got the opportunity to do this, it just really blew my mind.
From the very beginning, it was Younge's intention to create an old-school Delfonics vibe but offer a very hip-hop-informed perspective. There are
distinguishing musical elements that Delfonics fans will recognize, like the electric sitar guitar, the French horn, string arrangements, and the tympani. I
want people to expect something classic but not expect to hear the same thing rehashed, Younge says. I want to push it forward. William and I strived to
    push this forward.

Younge now makes this breath-taking musical outing available once again on his own Linear Labs imprint.

    Beyond The Bloodhounds

Adia Victoria spent the last few years writing, recording, touring and performing, while entrenched in the infamous artist R&R world - restaurants and retail work. Day jobs at a laundry list of Nashville it and not so it spots gave the musician lots of people watching time as well as the mental and emotional space to marinate in her art.

Adia blows the social hush-hush lid off the mental and emotional state of a young black woman growing up under the poverty line in the Deep South and all the implications of such. No pretense. No jive. But also, like the writing of Eudora Welty and Tennessee Williams, there is plenty of Southern Gothic styled, marrow deep joy.

In a recent feature story, Fader encouraged us to, Meet Adia Victoria, A Poet Making Country Music a Little Creepier. She is found in album cuts like Sea of Sand and Stuck in the South, revealing some of her place-based aha moments. In the latter, she notes, I don't know nothin' about Southern belles/ But I can tell you something about Southern hell. As songs like Head Rot, and first single Dead Eyes show us, Adia says, it's an album of falling in love, dealing with loss, confusion, anger, love, and loving myself.

Produced by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Sleater Kinney) and the artist herself, recorded at Nashville, Tennessee's Haptown Studios, Beyond the Bloodhounds features the indelible lyrics, voice, and guitar solos of Adia Victoria along with a band of talented musicians including Tiffany Minton (Drums), Alex Caress (keys), Mason Hickman (guitar), and Jason Harris (bass). She recalls, the studio is a Music City treasure. It used to be a car repair shop. You walk in and there are no windows. It's dark and moody. It feels like walking into the mind.

The result of a lifetime of introspection and a younger self marked by silent observation, Adia Victoria's Beyond the Bloodhounds was three active, recording years in the making. The title pays homage to a line in Harriet Jacobs' Narrative in the Life of a Slave Girl.

Ultimately, Victoria's debut album is more both/and, than either/or. The complexity of her Southern, barrel-aged roots and world traveling, bookworm woman ways will lure you out of the status quo.

Publications like American Songwriter, Rookie, and NPR are taking notice.

Now on the brink of her 30s, fluent in the language of her own self, Adia Victoria stands poised to take her place in a line of true artists. Her mother warned that she feels too much and would be torn up by the world. Adia will tell you that proved to be true. I've felt shredded, but I'm now blessed to embrace the intense feelings as part of my job. That's what I do. It's my bread and butter. My art depends on me feeling and experiencing. I show up, live, and come back and say, oooooh Honey, it was like this...

Man On The Rocks (Out Of Stock)

Virgin EMI are delighted to announce Mike Oldfield's first album of new material since 2008. Featuring 11 brand new tracks, MAN ON THE ROCKS is a deeply personal song-based album that reflects many of Mike's different influences. Recorded in the Bahamas, Mike's 25th studio album has been produced by Mike with legendary British producer Stephen Lipson (Jeff Beck, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox). Man On The Rocks features players such as legendary bassist Leland Sklar (Phil Collins, Crosby, Stills & Nash, James Taylor) and drummer John Robinson (Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Daft Punk). Although Oldfield has worked with some of the world's most famous vocalists in the past, here he has found an incredible young talent to interpret his words, Luke Spiller from the Struts.

Its working title, 'Rock' emphasises the album's directness, heard especially on the guitar-driven 'Irene', inspired by the category 3 hurricane that hit the Bahamas in 2011. However, it is - as you would expect from the man who gave the world Tubular Bells and so much more besides - an album of great variance and contrast; from the commercial punch of opening track, 'Sailing', to the beautiful folk-influenced 'Dreaming In The Wind' to the emotional gravitas of its closer, a cover of William McDowell's gospel song, 'I Give Myself Away'.

Last seen performing at the personal request of Danny Boyle to a global audience of 900 million at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, Man On The Rocks underlines Mike Oldfield's status as one of the most singular talents to ever emerge from the UK. The recent 2013 BBC 4 Documentary . . . plus Tubular Bells - the story of Mike and iconic album - further enforces that fact.

It has been a pleasure making Man On The Rocks with such a dedicated team of performers, says Oldfield. "For a long period, I felt that I wasn't going to record any new music again. But, after the elation of the Olympics and the explorations of my catalogue, I felt the time was right to return with this, one of my favourite albums to date."
