Sun DownNik Freitas' Team Love debut, Sun Down, equal parts wry, warm and sonorous, is the end product of several years of lifeÆs ups and downs. Freitas writes, plays, engineers and produces every note on his records. Not that he's got a lot of expensive gear. A visit to his Poppy Peak studio/shed reveals that Nik is working low-budget minor miracles, the kind of miracles one receives via hundreds of hours on Craigslist. One listen to Sun Down and you know you're hearing a certain hard-won grace. The record takes you from Paul Simon's Graceland to David Bowie's Hunky Dory all in the span of forty effortless minutes. Sun Down is endowed with a sort of gravity and self-possession; no reaching, no going for the gold, just perfect, four minute thesis statements. It all began several years ago for Freitas, when a co-worker sold him an antique piano that was used by a street musician before the dawn of Casio. Nik taught himself how to play the thing, and it became the cornerstone of three earlier records, Here's Laughing at You, Heavy Mellow and Voicing the Hammers. Other people began to take notice. He's opened for Jason Lytle of Granddaddy, played guitar for Jim Fairchild of All Smiles and recorded with Miles Kurosky of Beulah. Lately, he's been opening shows for Bright Eyes which led him to his current resting place at Team Love. The end of the imaginary side one features Sophie with live horns punctuating the tale of a girl who seems to have made some rather unfortunate choices. It's a perfect signpost of a song, and it clears the decks for what's to come in the second half, where Nik's orchestra of one builds the final five songs into an Abbey Road type suite that fans of Jon Brion will hearken to. Sun Down is imbued with a sort of indie grandeur that is both unexpected and totally natural.1. Sun Down

Locked DownStoried musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John (aka Mac Rebennack) releases Locked Down, a startling album that marks a significant departure from his recent efforts. The new album, produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, is Dr. John's first for Nonesuch Records.
Its an entirely new approach for the iconic Dr. John, featuring as it does his collaboration with Auerbach and a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make Locked Down at his studio Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. It was way cool cutting this record with Dan and the crew he put together for it, says Rebennack. It's reel HIP.
For his part, Auerbach says about the collaboration: Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically, something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac's one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be, I'm so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.
Auerbach, a long-time fan of the influential musician, dubbed the Night Tripper in the late 60s, visited Dr. John late in 2010 in his hometown of New Orleans, announcing his ambition to produce the best record you've made in a long time. Rebennack replied that he had done his research, his children had told him good things about The Black Keys, and the conversation led to an agreement to collaborate on the 2011 Bonnaroo Jam being curated by Auerbach.
That performance, called by New York Times critic Ben Ratliff in his best-of-the-year list deep and oozy, close-to-the-vest, low-frequency funk, confirmed that something unusual was taking place and led to September recording sessions in Nashville. Dr. John returned to Nashville at Thanksgiving to complete the vocals and Locked Down was mixed by Auerbach and completed in early 2012.1. Locked Down

Whatever Will HappenI was walking to the post office a few months ago when I saw 5 unkempt
figures heading my way. As they got closer, I recognized these guys. They had
played at our gallery last month, fogged the windows up good. Captivated the
crowd with their impossibly balanced creation of modern and classic, a blend of
Steely Dan cool and General Public pop, Squeezish hooks and Aztec Camera
guitar flair. It was like a crash course in 60s pop, 70s avant-garde, 80s new wave
and 90s popkid charm, with that unmistakable Puget Sound flavor. They were iji.
Iji's a band projecting their own brand of pop, nudging the genre into the
comfort zone of a punk community, embracing a desire for rack-a-chack, ethereal
and naivist sounds often unexplored by contemporaries.
Back on the sidewalk, I asked them what they were doing back in town.
Apparently after the Team Love show the band had decided to go night swimming.
Oblivious to the magical, secluded moonlit respite where the river bends wide or
the lake meets the shallow cliff, iji wound up breaking into the local community
pool, immediately getting arrested by the local community cops, and spending the
night in the local community clink. Now, rather than being out on tour in some
distant state or country spreading their transcendental party music, they had routed
themselves back up Hudson Valley way to appear in court and find that their
punishment was, essentially, all the cash in their merch box. A bummer; quickly
diverted by throwing together a few last minute shows and cruising on.
Shortly after this chance encounter Quarterbacks Dean came by the shop
and said he had heard the new iji album and did I want to give it a listen. I said
something like, fuck yeah, and that was that.
Zach Burba, the founder of iji, is what you might call a lifer. Iji is always
in a state of 'to be continued,' in the way that a journeyman is always and
perpetually transitioning into the master. They've put out numerous albums, singles,
cassettes, and splits over the past 10 years; toured coast to coast playing DIY
venues and houses where restrictions don't apply. This type of DIY pop is a
lifestyle; it's Kokopelli roaming the countryside sharing a song in exchange for a
roof and a bowl of soup.
On Whatever Will Happen, iji has whipped a notebook full of travel
poems into a full-length American Experimental Highway Pop Opus. The band's
eleventh or twelfth album is the first one recorded at Anacortes, Washington's The
Unknown Music Studio with a solid line-up, the Seattle underground music scene's
best players. Jake Jones and Curran Foster from Sick Sad World, Will Murdoch
from Pill Wonder, Evan Easthope from Neighbors, Erin Birgy of Mega Bog, plus a
handful of jazz horn players and inspired back-up singers. Whatever Will Happen
speeds past quiet beaches with soft-rock wind in the hair, through mountain passes
with windows-down-power-pop, into seedy cities with free-jazz flavor and shameless
The next time iji come to town, I'm going to take them up to the ridge and
show them a real swimming hole, something that's locals-only and worthy of their
greatness. And with that said, let's wrap this up by stating that Team Love is proud
to announce the release of Whatever Will Happen.1. Cruisin USA

Win Hands DownArmored Saint are a colossus, and Win Hands Down will long be remembered as one of the seven wonders of modern metal. The album - the band's seventh studio offering in a career spanning more than three decades - is all things Armored, a vintage crush of classic power propelled by a cathartic blast of life in the year 2015. This is Armored Saint, and this is nothing short of magnificent.
The fist-pumping adrenaline rush starts with the title track and escalates from there, Win Hands Down delivering an album-opening rally cry that re-introduces the players after their five year sojourn since the release of La Raza in 2010. As always, they are the same Saints we've grown to know and love - frontman John Bush and bassist Joey Vera, guitarist Phil Sandoval and his brother, drummer Gonzo Sandoval, and guitarist Jeff Duncan - five masters of metal that combine to forge one of the genre's most criminally-unsung forces.
When we started work on this record, I said, 'Let's pretend we are a really big band and can do whatever we want', says Bush of the spark that ignited Win Hands Down. Technology allows us that luxury, and we can take that luxury when it comes to writing. In the end, we know who we are, so we don't have those boundaries that other bands might have - you push yourself, dig deep and write stuff that makes you feel happy and fulfills you. That's really important, and I think it came through. This means a lot more to us than just, 'We made a rock/metal album...'LP 1

Upside Down MountainThough only 34, Conor Oberst has been a recording artist for more than two decades, starting with raw, acoustic guitar-based bedroom tracks he cut as a young teenager and initially released on cassette. After his early Omaha-based band Commander Venus broke up, Oberst recast himself as Bright Eyes, an umbrella name for Oberst, producer-keyboardist Mike Mogis and multi-instrumentalist/arranger Nathaniel Wolcott, and a shifting group of collaborators. By the time he released Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground on Saddle Creek, the label he helped found with friends in Omaha, Oberst was a word-of-mouth success, with an avid young audience that helped to sell out his tours. The critics soon followed. Rolling Stone called him "a true American original: the ghost of Walt Whitman setting up shop in the wraith-white, rail-thin frame of an acoustic-strumming Nebraska Cure fan." The 2005 simultaneous release of two markedly different Bright Eyes albums-the more singer-songwriter-oriented I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and the darker, computerized Digital Ash in a Digital Urn-displayed the breadth of his talent. Time Magazine listed I'm Wide Awake among its top 10 albums of the year. Since then, Bright Eyes has continued to evolve, its lineup morphing with each successive tour. While supporting his 2007 Cassadaga album, Oberst took over New York City's Town Hall for a week of sold-out shows, with his large, string-augmented ensemble outfitted spectacularly in white suits. He's also recorded and toured with Mogis, Jim James, and M. Ward as Monsters of Folk as well as with his own Mystic Valley Band. For the first leg of his summer 2014 tour, he's bringing along Wilson's other pals, the Southern Californian quartet Dawes as his support act and backing band.
"I feel lucky that I have been able to do this for as longs as I have," declares Oberst. "I've seen so many talented friends come and go, for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes they stop making music because they can't pay the bills or they lose the passion for it. At this point it is my life. I don't know another way to live. There is something fundamental in myself; I have to be this way. It completes what I am."
Upside Down Mountain features many other friends of Oberst's, including producer Jonathan Wilson, engineer Andy LeMaster, bassist Macey Taylor, multi-instrumentalist Blake Mills, and the Swedish sibling folk-rock vocal duo First Aid Kit. What started as exploratory demos with producer-musician Jonathan Wilson at his Fivestar Studios in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, in a home Wilson rents from Oberst, became the first de facto album sessions. Returning to his native Omaha, Nebraska, Oberst kept rolling with the help of frequent collaborator, engineer, and friend Andy LeMaster at his own ARC Studios. Even more tracking followed in Omaha last November and December. Then Oberst and Wilson moved south to Blackbird Studio in Nashville.
"This is a return to an earlier way I wrote," Oberst says of the songs on Upside Down Mountain. "It's more intimate or personal, if you will. Even if all my songs come from the same place, you make different aesthetic decisions along the way. For me, language is a huge part of why I make music. I'm not the greatest guitar player or piano player-I'm not the greatest singer, either-but I feel if I can come up with melodies I like that are fused with poetry I'm proud of, then that's what I bring to the table. That's why I'm able to do this."1. Time Forgot

Down Fell The DovesAmanda Shires landed everywhere from NPR's Tiny Desk to the Grand Ole Opry to the cover of Texas Music as their Artist Of The Year in 2011. Now she's back with 'Down Fell The Doves' set for release via Lightning Rod Records. The album's 11 original songs feature Amanda's sharpest writing to date, brought to life by a voice that melts, a fiddle that sears, and guitars - played for the most part by her husband, Jason Isbell - that scrape and howl.
Shires has blossomed into a truly original voice with 'Doves,' which was produced by Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, REM) and recorded at his Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens, GA. Bulletproof ponders invincibility with the help of a Siberian tiger claw. Wasted and Rollin' casts a deep, impressionistic fog. For Deep Dark Below Shires' attention shifts to the underworld, where the devil plays fiddle with a bow made of bones. Song for Leonard Cohen has a softer touch, imagining a drunken evening stroll with the master songwriter.
Now based in Nashville, Shires began playing fiddle at age ten in Texas. By 15, she had joined the Texas Playboys, former backing band of western swing pioneer Bob Wills. More recently she has toured and recorded with Snider and Justin Townes Earle who says, With a voice that whispers Dolly and lyrics that scream Faulkner, this girl shines like a diamond.1. Everything Will Be Alright In The EndLos Angeles, CA's Weezer will release their highly anticipated ninth album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, on Republic Records. Produced by Ric Ocasek, who previously helmed production on the band's first and third records (''The Blue Album'' and ''The Green Album''), Everything Will Be Alright In The End is the band's first collection of new material in four years.
Since forming in 1992, Weezer has released a myriad of celebrated, chart-topping albums, selling over 13 million records worldwide. Following an intensely prolific couple years at the end of the aughts, the band chose to deliberately dial down the tempo in 2010, a move singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo says allowed him to write at a slower pace, giving the songs he wanted to use for an album the time to gradually grow into their final forms. He started almost every song on the piano, eventually transferring them to the guitar before taking them to the band. When it came time to record the material, Weezer reunited with the man who helped them make some of their most iconic album-length work, Cars frontman Ric Ocasek. The resulting album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, is a stand-out gem in Weezer's vast and varied catalogue, a reflection of a much-loved band at their very best. Organized thematically around three groups of songs, it is an album that utilizes that sound from the band's earliest days to tell new stories in 2014, creating some of the finest, most heartfelt songs Weezer has ever recorded.1. Then It All Came DownThen It All Came Down is J.R. Robinson s second long-form composition as Wrekmeister Harmonies. Employing an enormous ensemble of some of Chicago s best talents in the metal and experimental communities, including Wrest (Leviathan), Ryley Walker, and members of Indian, Corrections House, Twilight, Yakuza, Anatomy of Habit, Come, Mind Over Mirrors, and Bloodiest, Robinson has created a work that is equally gorgeous and menacing. The CD edition also includes 2013 s You ve Always Meant So Much To Me (on CD for the first time), bringing the total running time to over 73 minutes. Few artists have perfected the nuances of beauty as well as annihilation, and Robinson s mastery of both sides of the spectrum makes his a unique voice in the field of doom. J.R. Robinson perceives life as a long, gradual process of decay. Lightness fades into darkness, while innocence succumbs to the evils of modern society. His music reflects not only this worldview but his emotional response to it. Then It All Came Down is an exploration of that existential deterioration and an attempt at attaining a deeper understanding of its process. Then It All Came Down opens with a low, soft drone, creeping in almost imperceptibly. Bells chime as more tonal voices emerge from the ether, Walker s acoustic guitar echoing in the abyssal soundscape. Several women sing as sirens: Beautiful Sun. The piece is inspired by and takes its name from an essay written by Truman Capote following his interview with Manson-associate Bobby Beausoleil (which translates as beautiful sun ), whose dangerous spirit and embodiment of occult ideals offer an extreme example of the light into dark transition the piece explores. As the soft drones and angelic voices are replaced with threatening rumbles of distortion and low cackles courtesy of Wrest, an overwhelming sense of unease permeates the piece s atmosphere, only a harbinger of what is to come. When the piece does explode into crushing howls and heavy doom, all semblance of tranquility and stillness, the light, the peace, is exterminated. Then It All Came Down was debuted at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago under a full moon in July of 2013, the first in a continuing yearly series called Beyond The Gate. The series continued in 2014 with a debut of another new Wrekmeister composition which will be released in early 2015. Wrekmeister Harmonies will continue to bring large-scale productions involving a rotating cast of guest musicians to unconventional performance spaces throughout 2014-15, and has a future collaboration planned with The Body. An essay by Robinson about Beausoleil s influence on Charles Manson and his ideological lineage from Alastair Crowley is available for deeper insights into Robinson s fascination with the controversial cult figure.1. Way Down In The Jungle RoomRCA Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a definitive new 2-LP collection of Elvis Presley's last studio recordings.
Way Down In The Jungle Room is an essential and welcome addition for every fan's library. In the mid-1970s, Elvis, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, became another kind of pioneer as one of the world's first major recording artists to create fully-realized professional level records in the intimacy of his own home studio.
With original recordings executive-produced by Elvis Presley with producer Felton Jarvis (who'd helmed most of Elvis' records from 1966-1977), Way Down In The Jungle Room features rare outtakes laid down during two mythic sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Graceland's den -- known as the Jungle Room -- which was converted into a professional caliber recording studio for the purpose of capturing these indelible performances. The outtakes have been newly mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.
For these sessions, Elvis was backed by many members of his longtime touring band including: James Burton (guitar), Ronnie Tutt (drums), David Briggs (keyboards), Glenn D. Hardin (keyboards), Jerry Scheff (bass), Norbert Putnam (bass) and J.D. Sumner & the Stamps (vocals).
In 1976, when the tracks for Way Down In The Jungle Room were cut, Elvis Presley had been an RCA Records recording artist for 20 years, inventing the sound and attitude that defined the very essence of rock 'n' roll. That same year, RCA released The Sun Sessions, the label's first official collection of the electrifying 1954-1955 Elvis recordings that launched his career while transforming the world.
Having entered his 40s, Elvis Presley was evolving as an artist and, rather than bask in the nostalgia of his 1950s watershed recordings, was looking for new ways to express himself musically. Needing to create new sounds for a new era, Elvis Presley--who'd been charting on Country and Adult Contemporary stations -- decided to convert the Hawaiian-themed Jungle Room (a relaxation den in his fabled Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee) into an informal home studio, where he could lay down tracks the way he wanted, outside the budget and scheduling pressures of the professional studios he'd worked in previously. With the help of RCA's mobile recording truck and longtime producer Felton Jarvis and engineer Mike Moran at the board, Elvis tackled a far-ranging mix of country and pop covers (Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Danny Boy, Solitaire) and late-period classics of his catalog, such as Moody Blue and Way Down.
The Outtakes was mixed for this collection at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis and includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a fly-on-the-wall experience of what the sessions were like. With the exception of She Thinks I Still Care, the performances have been sequenced in the order they were recorded.

Down The River Of Golden DreamsOkkervil River's Down the River of Golden Dreams takes the band's hallmarks - lush, eclectic orchestration that evokes chamber pop and soul, lapel-gripping emotional urgency, and the lyrical, direct songwriting of frontman Will Sheff - and expands and elevates them in service of a stunningly ambitious set of new songs.
If last year's Don't Fall in Love with Everyone You See was the middle of the darkest night of the year, Down the River of Golden Dreams is the earliest light of a morning that could either bring the first breeze of spring or a battalion of tornadoes. On it the band stretches their wings, they shake off the fear and trepidation of the last record and try to look life in the face, emboldened by distorted blasts of Wurlitzer, guttural stabs of Hammond organ, urbane strings, and jaunty horns that could be the work of a shitfaced Canadian Brass. Down the River of Golden Dreams combines with Okkervil's trademark melancholy a sense of drama and play at which the last album only hinted. It oozes the band's signature string-destroying folk-rock attack and umbilical chamber-pop swoon, but it also echoes the venomous cabaret of Jacques Brel, the off-kilter swagger of the Faces and Bob Dylan's Blonde On Blonde, and the dusky balladry of Nick Cave. In addition, it displays a new confidence in frontman Will Sheff, whose concise, literary lyrics and emotionally direct delivery are rapidly distinguishing him as one of rock music's best new songwriters.Down the River of Golden Dreams

Going Down To The River (Pre-Order)It's just not your typical Music City Story.... A frequent homeless, 62 year old singer-songwriter guitarist gets discovered at a Nashville food pantry by a Swedish country music star, who helps him from the streets to superstardom in a country best known for Abba's Dancing Queen and the likes.Doug Seegers' debut solo album entitled Going Down to the River on Rounder Records is raw, rootsy and emotionally charged. A brilliant 62-year-old singer who struggled with homelessness for years, Seegers found acclaim when Swedish music star Jill Johnson discovered him in a Nashville food pantry. The two subsequently recorded a duet that climbed to the top of the music charts in Sweden.
When I first heard Doug Seegers' voice, so full of soul and raw emotion, I was stunned. This man has lived these songs, not in his imagination but every long day over many hard years. He stands before you now - ready to testify. Listen and believe. - Emmylou Harris
Part Hank Williams, part Hank Snow, part Gram Parsons . . .his music is more real than anything you're gonna hear . . .Close your eyes and you will be transported, not to the past; he's not an imitation - it is a soul-portation. - Buddy Miller1. Angie's Song

Hasten Down The Wind (On Sale)Make Haste! Grab the Limited-Edition 180g LP of this Classic Now!
Did any musician have more talent at their beckon call during the 70s than Linda Ronstadt? Absolutely not. Part of her impeccable string of mid-1970s albums that defined California's soft-rock scene, the Grammy-winning Hasten Down the Wind is Ronstadt at her best and that's saying something. Consider the watertight repertoire: The Warren Zevon title track. Patsy Cline's (by way of Willie Nelson) 'Crazy.' Buddy Holly's 'That'll Be the Day.' Nelson's 'Down So Low.' Karla Bonoff's 'If He's Ever Near.' Ry Cooder's 'The Tattler.'
And then, there's the supporting cast, which includes Eagles legend Don Henley on drums and harmony vocals, folk-rock legend Peter Asher on guitar, session drumming master Russ Kunkel, and multi-instrumentalist sensation Andrew Gold playing just about everything with strings or skins. Couple this with the thematically revealing cover in a nod to the escapism of fantasy romance novels, the singer stands on a beach before an ocean and a running horse, her exposing dress a sign of the lovesick vulnerability that colors the songs and Hasten Down the Wind is the complete package of sensuality, passion, and poignancy.
Now, due to Mobile Fidelity's trademark sonic restoration, the album finally has the exquisite sound it has always deserved. Listeners can now literally feel Ronstadt's deep-seeded emotions. Even better, her covers of affecting ballads and midtempo country-rock numbers intentionally revolve around vocal-heavy arrangements. It's no wonder that the album, which topped the country charts, also yielded two Top 20 hits and resulted in the artist's first platinum-record award.
But make haste! Quantities are limited, and, unlike Ronstadt's timeless interpretations, this will not be around forever.

Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow (Awaiting Repress)150 Gram Vinyl
Five years ago on May 6th, 2008 we released Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow. It was a different record for us. We had been invited to play at the Riceboy Sleeps art exhibit after party. It would be our first live show. Since it would just be the two of us performing we had to write material specific to the event. Of course it was intimidating because both Jonsi Birgisson from Sigur Rós and the gentle natured, multitalented Alex Somers would be sitting in the audience just a few feet away from us. Nothing to worry about though, they were absolute sweethearts. Jonsi toasted us in the middle of the set, which helped soothe our nerves, and you could sense their genuine appreciation for our performance. (On a personal note, my favorite memory was when Jonsi sang to me while we were just sitting around and talking about creating loops and soundscapes.)
Andrew and I came back home and decided to create a record out of the music we had written for the after party. There were no beats on the record, just pure ambience and a few cellos added to sweeten things up. We finished recording and Jonsi and Alex asked if Riceboy Sleeps could create the artwork after we asked them for permission to use the title, Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow. So here we are now with a remastered version and and a gorgeous vinyl release. Why? When we brought the original recordings to the mastering session the title track had been bounced down at the wrong sample rate so it wasn't in an actual key. It was between two keys. When we performed it live we would play it in the proper key and it just sounded better to us. So we approached Taylor Deupree and asked him to do a new mix of the title track and remaster the whole record. The record now sounds like it's in 3D and the title track is now true to our original vision. So rich and warm. As for the vinyl Well a lot of you have been asking for vinyl from us so this is kind of a test to see how it goes. But the main reason is the artwork. Vinyl sized artwork by Riceboy Sleeps. It's gorgeous and it's just nice to be able to hold it in your hands. Not to mention the warm sound of vinyl. This is a unique recording within the Hammock catalog. Unique in the way it was created, in it's sonic texture and artwork.

Us And The NightGrammy Award®-nominated, multiplatinum Mississippi rock band 3 Doors Down have announced their sixth full-length album, Us And The Night.
"In The Dark" shows a different side of 3 Doors Down. Fans will recognize the robust riffing, but it flaunts a sexy and striking chant that emphasizes a new groove and swagger altogether.
On the new album Brad Arnold notes: "We're all excited to release our new album Us And The Night. It's truly been a labour of love and we can't wait to get these songs out to our fans around the world."
Following 2011's Time of My Life, which landed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and The Greatest Hits in 2012, the band continued its non-stop touring, performing for audiences across the globe. Gearing up for Us And The Night the group recorded the album at Rivergate Studios in Nashville, TN with producer Matt Wallace [Maroon 5, Train, Faith No More] over the course of 2015.
