    The Emerald City (Awaiting Repress)

Chicago's Irish punk rockers THE TOSSERS paint the town green with the release of their eighth studio album, The Emerald City. Predating fellow Celtic punk contemporaries FLOGGING MOLLY and DROPKICK MURPHYS, THE TOSSERS' 20 year career boasts numerous highlights including a St. Patrick's Day performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a performance at the 2005 World Series for their hometown Chicago White Sox, and hundreds more drunkenly rambunctious shows with the most notable artists in the genre.

THE TOSSERS are celebrated for their authentic use of traditional Irish folk instrumentation comprised
of the mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle, and banjo, all of which are incorporated brilliantly throughout The Emerald City. Truly shining with their loud, fast, and rowdy live sets, THE TOSSERS will be heading to a town near you in support of the latest effort. Belly up to the bar, down a pint, and get ready to jig the night away with the passionate and timeless anthems on The Emerald City. Sláinte!

    White Eyes

Hailing from the Show-Me State, White Eyes lugged their heavy psych and harmony-clad ballads across the Midwest, honing their live set wherever audiences were abundant. Whether it be the famed Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City or the nearest American Legion, the quintet of long-haired bohemians loaded a double bass drum set, a wall of Marshall amplifiers, and a array of acoustic guitars into their 1953 Cadillac hearse to deliver their impeccable stage show across the plains.

Despite years of relentless gigging, White Eyes never caught their break. This previously issued LP, recorded between the fall of 1969 and 1970, was originally intended as a demo for talent buyers and industry prospectors. Well-crafted arrangements and pro-sounding production make this an exceptional piece of
    lost psychedelic pop.

    Under Great White Northern Lights

In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album Icky Thump, The White Stripes headed north of their hometown of Detroit to embark on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut. Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog, from the ocean to the permafrost explains Jack White. We wanted to play out of the way towns that don't usually get shows, the shows are better, it's better for the people, it's a better experience, it's way more unique, something interesting is going to happen, hopefully.

White called upon filmmaker Emmett Malloy to come and document this trek for the band. Malloy had directed videos for the band in the past, and seemed eager to hit the road with them. Equipped with a couple of 16mm cameras, and a few other documenting devices, the band and crew all headed north. The end result was Under Great White Northern Lights.

Under Great White Northern Lights is a visual and emotional feature length film documenting The White Stripes making their way through Canada and culminating with their 10th Anniversary show in Nova Scotia. The film documents the band playing shows all over Canada; from local bowling alleys, to city buses, and onward to the legendary Savoy Theater for the 10th Anniversary show. A show that turned out to be the longest show the band had ever done on stage together.

The film captures intimate moments of Jack and Meg both on and off stage as they travel through some of the most remote parts of the northern Yukon Territory. Along the way, they have some nice casual conversations about their ten years together, fire cannons, play some of their biggest songs together on stage, and even play a one note show. The cameras were there to capture every waking moment.

What Northern Lights does best is document one of the biggest bands in the world, playing to local crowds in small towns. Some of these towns were so small that many of the locals had no idea who The White Stripes were, they just knew something big was going on in their town. This forced a band that had been together for a decade to go back to a place reminiscent of the first shows they ever played together. For the first time in a long time, no one knew who they were and they had to make a first impression with their music.

The live footage captured in this film shows that Jack and Meg were clearly ready for this. Beyond the live footage, some of the films most memorable moments happen off-stage, offering an insightful look into the very private and complex world that is The White Stripes. It was shortly after this tour that The White Stripes cancelled their fall tour of the U.S., making the ten year anniversary a truly pivotal milestone for this legendary band.

This double 180g vinyl LP set features 16 tracks and serves as the soundtrack to the documentary film of the 2007 Canadian White Stripes tour.

Seminal Slowcore Progenitor's Sub Pop Albums Reissued Individually as Deluxe 2LP + CD Editions!

Restored from the Original Masters Complete w/ Additional Singles, Demos, Live Recordings and Peel Sessions!

From 1990-1994, New York City's Codeine were making somnambulant waves on a musical landscape reeling from Sub Pop's better known exports. 1991's Frigid Stars, 1992's Barely Real, and 1994's The White Birch received much critical praise upon release, but Codeine dissolved before any of that hype would carry Low, Bedhead, and the Red House Painters to international acclaim.

All three albums will be subjected to Numero's notoriously elaborate packaging and detailed liner notes, including essays by Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman, Love Child's Alan Licht, and the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd. The albums have been faithfully restored from the original masters, and are accompanied by a plethora of singles, demos, live recordings, and Peel sessions. Each album will be packaged as a double album with a CD of the same material.

Codeine's third overall release and second full-length, The White Birch, was originally issued in 1994 and would be the band's final offering. Regarded as their best album, the 9-song set is bookended by the murky opener Sea and the contemplative closer Smoking Room with highlights Vacancy and Washed Up in between. 2LP + CD edition features 8 bonus tracks including demos, live takes and Peel sessions.

In support of this great undertaking, Codeine's original line-up of Stephen Immerwahr, John Engle, and Chris Brokaw will be reuniting for a handful of dates in the US and Europe, including All Tomorrow's Parties in both London and Japan, and Primavera in Spain.

Only the 10th record from DJ Shadows long running Cali-Tex imprint, Stone Coal White fits the labels bill of unearthing the most wasted and primitive funk records ever recorded to a T. Some will recognize You Know from the black-psych mix bible Chains & Black Exhaust, but as the groups two 45s exist in single digit quantities, only a handful have heard the rest of this Ho Chi Min City-damaged oeuvre. Their two 45s have been bolstered with four previously unissued tracks, found in the basement of a now-condemned motorcycle gang hideout in Dayton, Ohio.

The inaugural, lead single from The Raconteurs' critically-acclaimed Broken Boy Soldiers. The band formed in 2005 when Motor City melody master Brendan Benson, the White Stripes' Jack White, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler (both of The Greenhornes) joined forces to help pull together some unfinished material Benson had been working on. This record has been out of print for an entire decade and not since its first and only pressing back in 2006 have folks been able to indulge themselves in its sweet, sweet riffage. It is a staple of TMR catalog and, at long last, it will be reissued with a dedicated catalog number of its own.

    Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016

JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS 1998-2016 collects 26 acoustic songs from throughout White's wide-ranging musical career, spanning album tracks, B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased tracks. The album, arranged in chronological order, includes acoustic songs made famous by The White Stripes, beginning with ''Sugar Never Tasted So Good'' (originally found on The White Stripes' second-ever 7-inch single) and then lighting upon favorites like ''Apple Blossom'' and ''I'm Bound To Pack It Up'' (remixed here from the original recordings on 2000's DE STIJL), ''Hotel Yorba'' and ''We're Going To Be Friends'' (from 2001's WHITE BLOOD CELLS), ''You've Got Her In Your Pocket'' and ''Well It's True That We Love One Another'' (from 2003's GRAMMY® Award-winning ELEPHANT), ''Forever For Her (Is Over For Me),'' ''White Moon'' and ''As Ugly As I Seem'' (from 2005's GET BEHIND ME SATAN) ''Effect & Cause'' (from 2007's ICKY THUMP), and the Beck-produced ''Honey, We Can't Afford To Look This Cheap,'' first found on the B-side to The White Stripes' final single, 2007's ''Conquest.''

''City Lights'' (below) was written for The White Stripes' GET BEHIND ME SATAN but then forgotten until White revisited the 2005 album for Third Man's Record Store Day 2015 vinyl reissue and finished the recording in 2016. The track is the first new, worldwide commercially released White Stripes song since 2008.

Also featured are ''Never Far Away'' (recorded for 2003's COLD MOUNTAIN: MUSIC FROM THE MIRAMAX MOTION PICTURE) and ''Love Is The Truth'' (written and recorded for Coca-Cola's 2006 What Goes Around campaign) as well as the Bluegrass Version of ''Top Yourself'' and an acoustic mix of the epic murder ballad, ''Carolina Drama,'' both written by White and Brendan Benson for The Raconteurs' GRAMMY® Award-winning 2008 album, CONSOLERS OF THE LONELY. White's two chart-topping solo albums, 2012's BLUNDERBUSS and 2014's LAZARETTO, are represented by a remarkably diverse range of material including ''Love Interruption,'' ''On And On And On,'' ''Blunderbuss,'' ''Entitlement,'' ''Want And Able,'' and alternative mixes of ''Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy,'' ''Just One Drink,'' ''I Guess I Should Go To Sleep,'' and B-side, ''Machine Gun Silhouette.''

''This, like (Son House's) 'Grinnin' In Your Face,' is mirror-music,'' writes renowned music journalist Greil Marcus of ''City Lights'' in the album's exclusive liner notes, ''the singer talking to himself, trying to tell himself the truth, which he's going to need if he's going to step out of his door, walk into the world, and fool himself, for just a second, that he's ready to take it on. As you listen, it's no surprise at all that it took most of White's music-making life to bring the song home.''

The 26 tracks featured on JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS 1998-2016 were remastered by Andrew Mendelson at Nashville, TN's Georgetown Masters. All songs were written and produced exclusively by Jack White, except ''Never Far Away'' (produced by T Bone Burnett), ''Honey, We Can't Afford To Look This Cheap'' (produced by Beck), ''Top Yourself (Bluegrass Version)'' and ''Carolina Drama'' (written & produced by White & Brendan Benson), and ''Machine Gun Silhouette'' (written by White & Rob Jones).

    Generation Indigo

At the end of 2010, Poly Styrene, the unforgettable frontwoman and iconic face of the seminal U.K. punk band X-ray Spex announced her return to the music scene with the album Generation Indigo produced by Youth (The Verve, Killing Joke, The Fireman, Edwyn Collins).

Poly Styrene remains a genuine icon and one of the main influences on the Riot Grrri scenes with bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gossip, LeTigre and others recognizing her fiery, irrepressible presence. With her great self-styled image, brilliantly sharp lyrics and powerful presence, Poly's indomitable spirit still inspires.

Generation Indigo kicks off with the mighty, power-pop of I Luv Ur Sneakers and maintains the quick pace with first single Virtual Boyfriend before then moving into dubstep territories on the title track Generation Indigo. The album takes in everything from neo-X-ray Spex punk rock on Thrash City and L.U.V to the Trojan-reggae infused grooves of No Rockefeller, Code Pink Dub and Colour Blind whilst stand out songs, Thrash City and White Gold attest to the power of Poly's soaring vocals. Poly showcases humorous musings on pop culture and fashion whilst also tackling heavier subject matter with her politically aware and intelligent lyrics.

Sometimes it's best to see the world in black and white. Shades of grey are for p**s, right-and NEW BUMS have ridden the hard road all the way to this, their album debut. They've played around and they've hit the singles scene (haven't you turned up "Slim Volume"? 7EP of the year, man!), but Voices in a Rented Room tells their whole life story and probably more of yours than you'd care to admit. The voices are two, spinning harmonies both heavenly and salt-pickled. Picking their direction and floating along on a pair of acoustics, New Bums are the sound of old drunk America, dancing out of the shadows, coming forth again to stand in the light, in the hopes of repopulating those sad old single-occupancy hotels before they're all torn down. New Bums is the grudging match-up of DONVAN QUINN (SKYGREEN LEOPARDS) and BEN CHASNY (SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, COMETS ON FIRE, 200 YEARS, RANGDA). They didn't like each other at first, but now make sweet and sour music together over the light of the magical Sterno (if there's anything left in the can, that is!). The ideas go back and forth between Ben and Donovan in what seems to be a true partnership. Their songs are all that: songs, with lyrics set in a space to speak to the human buried in you. People's music, with all the stark confessions, tall tales, bleak humors and punch lines that the people can bear. Behind the acoustics and voices is lots of space, but there are a few extra instruments that come and go and tinge the scrim as the boys move from stately processional to streetcorner sing-around to bluesy weeper to low-rolling rock n roll and back again, with slide-guitar lines erupting in the dark night air and classical-tinged filigrees curling around the tarnished and rusting edges throughout.

Jesse Mac Cormack's First Two EPs Compiled On One LP

Packaged In An Embossed All-White Cover

For the last three years, singer-songwriter, musician and producer Jesse Mac Cormack has collaborated with many artists on the Montreal music scene, including Emilie & Ogden, Melanie Boulay and Rosie Valland. His first EP, Music For The Soul (2014), delivers a very personal acoustic sound, while his second EP, CRUSH (2014), is encompassed by electric guitar and full band. His pristine and heartfelt vocals and lyrics arise from his personal journeys and a soothing, warm influence emerges in his surroundings. His music is painfully healing.

    For Madmen Only (On Sale)

    White Colored Vinyl

Waxwing features Rocky Votolato (vocals/guitar) and brother Cody Votolato on guitar (Blood Brothers). Seattle-based Waxwing's debut full length, For Madmen Only, is a beautifully involved album of contrasting emotions set against the musical contradictions of both lush acoustic movements and propulsive dramatic rock. Musically, For Madmen Only's nine tracks transverse myriad rock landscapes (be it traditional rock, indie, folk or Americana), but with a sullen, repentant quality that stains these tracks with a morose, languid atmosphere perfectly echoed in singer/guitarist Rocky Votolato's brooding vocals and lyrics. One of For Madmen Only's greatest strengths is Votolato's golden crooning, which serves as both focal point and background for Waxwing's music, slipping into the foreground and back again with ease, as it's required. Waxwing's lilting dynamics takes the music from tender acoustic folk to somnambulant indie rock to restrained melodies that build to emotional climaxes and rock spasms, but always with a faltering push-pull theme laced throughout For Madmen Only. Sharing its members with The Blood Brothers, Bugs In Amber, as well as Votolato's solo endeavors has done nothing to diminish Waxwing's dramatic focus, and For Madmen Only is an exquisite, effecting debut. Recorded by Matt Bayles (MINUS THE BEAR, The Sword, Botch, ISIS, Cursive, Make Do and Mend, Murder City Devils, Mastodon, Blood Brothers). WHITE vinyl limited to 500 copies. First time this vinyl has been available since 1999, hence all the collectors getting top dollar for these.

White Sea is Morgan Kibby, best known for her collarborations and frequent touring with French electronic group M83, including keys and arrangements for the band's acclaimed release Saturdays=Youth, co-writing the song Kim & Jessie. More recently she returned to the studio with M83 to contribute to the bands latest GRAMMY nominated album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, inclusing co-writing the album's ubiquitous platinum hit Midnight City. Kibby has now ventured out on her own under the moniker White Sea, and recently released the song They Don't Know and Prague to much acclaim and high praise.

    Ready For Confetti

Ready For Confetti is the 16th release in a celebrated career that spans 30+ years, and shows no signs of slowing down. Robert Earl Keen has toured extensively throughout most of his career, creating a loyal and extensive fan base. On any given night, the audience at a Robert Earl Keen show can be a mix of blue collar, white collar, young, middle aged, academic, honky tonk, hipster, city slicker, collegiate, socially conscious or socially inept. All are welcome and all gain something from the experience that keeps them coming back.

Robert Earl Keen is a songwriters songwriter, who skillfully blends elements of folk, jazz, country, blues, rock, Texas swing and spoken word with his wry wit and penchant for satire. His songs make people laugh, cry, dance, sing and most importantly, think. Through all of this, the common thread that runs through Keens impressive body of work is the narrative. Robert Earl Keen is a master storyteller who stands side-by-side with the great storytellers of his era, in any genre. The sun-splashed title track, the swing-filled Top Down, the reggae-infused Waves On The Ocean, the venom-laced The Road Goes On and On and the country ballad Paint The Town Beige will confirm that Ready For Confetti is Robert Earl Keen in top form.

Ready For Confetti was produced by Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks, Flatlanders), who also produced Keens critically acclaimed 2009 album The Rose Hotel (Lost Highway).

    Stridulum

Seven years ago, it was winter break at university in Madison, Wisconsin. There was a snowstorm that covered the city with a still white haze. Not a single person in the streets. I was sitting on my bed with a cheap keyboard and a computer, screaming into the void.

I barely remember writing the songs. It was a chaotic point in my life. I had notice to think about process or intent. It was a purge. I do remember taking a break from recording, bundling up, and walking through the barren streets while listening to the demos I'd made. The world, at once, felt clear.

After writing and producing what would become the Stridulum EP, I contacted anew friend, Alex DeGroot, to come over and record my vocals. He was studying audio engineering and had more knowledge and gear than I could dream of. He Helped mix Stridulum, too, because all I had was a pair of headphones. (Since then, Alex has stuck by me, as a live bandmate, technical director, co-producer,mixer, and engineer.)

These songs were a huge leap of faith back then. It was my first time singing without layers of distortion, echo, and reverb. It was the first time I peeled back the layers to find out what was at the core. I'm still on that path today, seeing how far I can push myself into unknown places, whether through clarification or destruction. It's like Stridulum's still here with me, underneath it all.

Still, it's surreal to think that this record, made by a 19-year-old girl sitting on abed in a freezing old house in Madison, would make its way into strangers' ears seven years later.

The Edgar Winter/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Celebrate 4 Decades Of Edgar Winter's White Trash

First Time 180 Gram White Vinyl!

Featuring Guitar Legends: Johnny Winter & Rick Derringer

The legendary rocker and blues statesman Edgar Winter continues to enthrall audiences the world over.
With his unique brand of musical genius and keyboard, sax and vocal prowess, Edgar's style will always be truly
    unmatched in purity and longevity.

While he tours, produces and records non-stop, it's no secret that his live shows have always been top notch
and legendary. In 1972, Edgar Winter along with his band White Trash played a series of shows at the famed Apollo
Theatre and Academy Of Music in New York City, plus the Whisky A Go-Go in L.A. Luckily, Epic Records captured
the prolific event on tape and the amazing album Roadwork was born.

For Roadwork, the artist surely becomes a superstar on this mammoth 2 LP set. Featuring rock and soul classics
like Chuck Berry's Back In the U.S.A. and Otis Redding's I Can't Turn You Loose, plus tunes from his first two
albums like the epic 17 minute version of Tobacco Road, Roadwork proves to be a never ending festival of rock,
blues, gospel and R&B earth shattering performances. The band features his friends like guitar hero Rick Derringer
as well as power vocalist Jerry LaCroix, and of course his late great brother Johnny Winter brings the house down
with his surprise visit on the smash hit Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo.

The masterpiece was also a primer for a lot of rockers who for the first time would be treated to the likes of
musical pioneers like Bobby "Blue" Bland thanks to the late great Jerry LaCroix's shuddering vocal performance
on the album closer Turn On Your Lovelight.

Edgar Winter's artistry is no stranger to the Friday Music label, therefore it is with much honor to announce
the first time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl release of his classic Edgar Winter's White Trash Roadwork album. For
a very short time, this monumental masterwork is being presented on 180 Gram White Vinyl and featuring the
original gatefold LP artwork, not seen in years in this format.

    The Lady Gone Electric

    Limited Edition White Vinyl

Recorded at the Electric Ladyland Studios in New York City, in December 1974 in preparation for their first US tour, this sublime Rush performance was given in front of an audience of 8-12 people in the small studio, and thus provides a fine example of this remarkable band's early live sound.

This was also the earliest recording made with Neil Peart on drums, Peart having replaced their former skins-man John Rutsy, a few months before this show. They perform material from their first album and new songs from the soon to be released Fly by Night LP. The show was undertaken to provide a live broadcast for FM Radio, and was transmitted across the airwaves prior to the release of Fly by Night.
We get a rare treat in Working Man, when Alex delivers a guitar solo outside of the normal structure of the song.

Apparently, several mics were set up around the studio, with only a very basic soundboard feed. The result is a very well-mixed sound - so much so, in places it sounds as though its lifted direct from the first album.

Unique "Kay-Dee Casebook" Packaging - All Seven 7-inches Fit Into A Book As Self-contained Pages

KAY-DEE RECORDS, the online store and label owned and operated by Kenny Dope, takes things to the next level with the debut of its "Book Series." Kenny's vision for Kay-Dee's first book was to create a premium set with a mix of well-known and never-before-seen "Wild Style" photos, in addition to liner notes detailing the stories behind the music of one of his favorite films.

The year was 1981 and young, New York City-based filmmaker Charlie Ahearn was working on what would become one of the most important artifacts in the history of hip-hop music and culture: "Wild Style." He was scraping by to fund his efforts, which were far from a surefire money-making enterprise. Hip-hop wasn't even called "hip-hop" at the time, and it was still viewed as a fad, by both nationwide music listeners and a majority of the press.

As Ahearn and his crew continued to film scenes from "Wild Style" (which starred graffiti writers Lee Quinones and Lady Pink, among many other hip-hop and "Downtown" luminaries of the day), they reached an interesting juncture: what music would DJs in the film use in the soon-to-be-legendary live performance scenes?
The director - making a visionary move more than a half-decade before any sampling or music clearance lawsuits would appear - decided that he wanted to control the music to be used in these scenes. They would create their own breakbeats, instead of using known cuts of the day; for instance, The Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache" or James Brown's "Funky Drummer."

While Ahearn headed off to film more scenes, he left these important musical production duties to an up-and-comer who, thanks in part to his crucial role as Phade in the film, would grow to be one of hip-hop's and graffiti's most important ambassadors of the 1980s: Fred "Fab 5 Freddy" Brathwaite.

Over the course of a week's time in the late summer of 1981, the Wild Style Breakbeats sessions were completed and mastered. None of the three principal musicians who played on the Breakbeats were ever in the studio at the same time. And the final number of white-label-only Breakbeats 12-inches was, according to Freddy, only 100, making them some of the rarest "Holy Grail" pieces of vinyl in music history.

The original Breakbeats vinyl was given to the DJs in the film - including GrandWizzard Theodore, Charlie Chase and Kevie Kev Rockwell - who used them in live performance scenes, most of which were completed in the spring of 1982. Interestingly, out of 13 Breakbeats given to DJs, only five were ever used in these performance scenes or on the film's much-revered soundtrack.

For this premium Wild Style Breakbeats set, renowned DJ, producer, and lifelong "Wild Style" fanatic Kenny Dope obtained the original reel-to-reel tapes from director Charlie Ahearn and went about re-EQing and extending the length of each Breakbeat [most were originally about one minute long]. Thanks to these efforts, all 13 Breakbeats are presented here with top-level audio quality that has never been heard before. Additionally, since only bootlegs of the Wild Style Breakbeats have ever existed, this is the first time they have ever been presented on their own, as an official full album release.

This stunning set with unique "Kay-Dee Casebook" packaging - officially licensed from Charlie Ahearn by Kenny Dope and Kay-Dee Records, and packaged by Get On Down - is a hip-hop junkie's dream. It presents a crucial rap artifact with the respect it has always deserved but, until now, has not been given. It is sure to sit on your shelf alongside other trophies from the music and culture that has touched the lives of so many over the past four decades.

Nina At The Village Gate (Pure Pleasure)

In the intimate ambiance of The Village Gate, Nina Simone made pure magic with her voice and on the keyboard, one Manhattan evening back in 1961. She sang and played with a trio, which featured her favorite guitarist, Al Shackman. We are so fortunate that the moment was captured and recorded.

I can't really categorize Nina's sound or her music and call her 'just' a fabulous jazz vocalist. Although, she plays extraordinary jazz with her voice, as in Just In Time. She has been often called a musical anomaly, because there is no one category for her work. She was trained as a classical pianist, and in cuts like Bye Bye Blackbird, the complexity of her piano comes through loud and clear. Her folk songs, like the biting House Of The Rising Sun, and Zungo, an African work song, place her at the top of a long list of folk singers. Ms. Simone's gospel songs, i.e., Children Go Where I Send You, can raise the roof and bring down the house, as she did at the Gate in '61. She is a protest singer, Brown Baby, and an actress, capable of an extraordinary range of emotions.

Nina has the rare ability to dig into her material and bring unexpected meaning to familiar lyrics. She is eclectic with her taste and her repertoire. But whatever touches Nina, and whatever Nina touches, will reach you and evoke an emotional response. Her music is as fresh today, as it was 42 years ago, singing for that Manhattan audience. They could not have loved her more then, than we do now.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe soundtrack re-issue to 1982's sci-fi horror classic, JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING. Composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack to THE THING is a landmark musical composition that is cold, dark, minimal, and effective.

Considered to be John Carpenter's directorial masterpiece, THE THING is praised as one of the greatest films of its genre by both fans and critics. Starring Kurt Russell and A. Wilford Brimley, THE THING follows a team of researchers in Antarctica as they are infiltrated by a parasitic extraterrestrial life form that assimilates other organisms and then imitates them. The classic soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone effectively captures the cold, isolated tone of the story and film, and marks one of the few John Carpenter directed films that Carpenter did not score himself.

Waxwork Records worked for two years to ensure that such a highly anticipated and sought after vinyl soundtrack re-issue would meet and exceed expectations of the biggest fan of John Carpenter and his sci-fi / horror tour de force that is THE THING.

Features include the complete Ennio Morricone soundtrack re-mastered from the original master tapes, 180-gram White Snow colored vinyl, all new artwork by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, deluxe heavyweight packaging including satin coated old-style gatefold jackets with UV spot-gloss varnish, and an 11" x 22" poster.

    Forbidden Fruit (Pure Pleasure)

To call Nina Simone a jazz singer is to neglect the depth and range of her artistry. A classical pianist, folk singer, protest singer, and songwriter, her arrangements are harmonically rich, varied, and rhythmically experimental, while her voice can go from lounge singer-smooth to raw and exposed in the space of a verse.

The tracks on Sides 1 & 2 comprise 1961's masterful Forbidden Fruit album. While no session information exists to confirm this, Schackman, Hamilton and White were likely accompanying Nina when she recorded the eleven songs that comprise Sides 3 & 4, seven of which are from the small archive of previously unreleased tracks left in the Colpix vaults; and four of which were included on the Nina's final Colpix release, 1963's "Nina Simone With Strings".
