    ...And Justice For Y'all

The South will smoke again. The Bible Belt state of North Carolina, USA seems a fertile ground for hemp and stoner rock. When cult sludge act BUZZOV•EN called it a day, bass player Dave Dixie Collins teamed up with guitarist Dave Shep Shepherd and founded WEEDEATER in the harbor town of Wilmington about the year 1998. Their crushing and massive first full-length and Justice for Y'all created an immediate buzz, while critics were struggling to put a tag on their sound. Nearly everybody agreed that stoner rock, doom, sludge and some crusty elements were part of the mix, which the band simply calls weed metal. The debut was produced by renowned engineer Billy Anderson (EYEHATEGOD, NEUROSIS) as well as sophomore album Sixteen Tons (2002). WEEDEATER went out to perform live with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY among others. After some detours of Dixie Dave, who played shortly with BONGZILLA and SOURVEIN, the third album God Luck and Good Speed hit the world in 2007 and shifted the band's focus slightly towards the stoner side. The latest full-length Jason the Dragon got delayed when guitarist Shep lost a toe due to an incident with his favourite shotgun. When the sludge driven album finally came out in 2011 shows in the US and Europe cemented the band's reputation as a fierce live entity. For the next release WEEDEATER have signed up with Season of Mist, which will reissue the complete back catalogue. Remastered and presented with its original artwork, And Justice for Y'all will also be available on vinyl for the first time. Time to lean back and get high on this WEEDEATER cult classic!

God Luck And Good Speed (Awaiting Repress)

Nearly five years after their second CD, the underrated Sixteen Tons, was seemingly flushed like so much unwanted bong water down the toilet of stoner rock's decline in popularity, the members of North Carolina's Weedeater found the strength to roll up a new one after hooking up with the Southern Lord label, and duly re-emerged with a hell of a comeback album. In fact, it's' a good bet that their invariably baked fan contingent would likely bestow 2007's God Luck and Good Speed with the highest possible honor of calling it really good shit, full-to-bursting with coarse, crusty, stoner sludgecore of the highest market value. This becomes immediately apparent on the album's impressive opening triple threat -- the earth-shaking grooves of the title track, the uproarious speed-blast of Wizard Fight, and the groove-driven laughs of For Evan's Sake -- all of which surf on surging waves of feedback, their tendrils forming dirty electric causeways for an extended, uninterrupted buzz. Then suddenly, all is quiet for the one-off austerity of Alone, featuring only a banjo, an acoustic bass, and vocalist Dixie Dave Collins replacing his trademark croak with a drunken baritone à la Tom Waits, stinking drunk out on the bayou. (Curiously, this track alone was recorded by Corrosion of Conformity's Mike Dean, while the rest of the album was produced by indie rock staple Steve Albini.) Punishing, viscous volume and distortion are resumed by subsequent aural bulldozers like the instrumental $20 Peanut, the doomy but somewhat dull Dirt Merchant, and the oddly named epic Weed Monkey (all interlocked by even more feedback, naturally). And to emphasize their sub-Mason Dixon line allegiance, Weedeater deliver an aptly sludge-encrusted cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Gimme Back My Bullets as sung by Swamp Thing. Final verdict? The wait was worth it: God Luck and Good Speed is definitely some of Weedeater's strongest stuff yet.

    Goliathan

The infamous rock outlaws WEEDEATER return with 'Goliathan', their long-awaited new album. 'Goliathan' is the crossroad where true Southern rock/metal meets raw humor and old religion, and embodies the bands trademark shuffle and swagger rightly. Syrupy slow riffs are buoyed by canyon-deep bass and some of the hardest-hitting drumming since Keith Moon. Full-on bruisers Cain Enabler, Claw of the Sloth, and the aptly-named Bully demonstrate that 'Goliathan' is vintage WEEDEATER and the soon-to-be gold standard of Southern sludge metal.

    Jason The Dragon

After 2007's critically acclaimed and now classic release, God Luck and Good Speed, had been toured to death around the world, the boys of WEEDEATER took time between the mishaps and mayhem of 2010 to write and record their 2nd album, Jason ... the Dragon. Recorded and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini and mastered by the equally legendary John Golden, Jason ... continues the legacy that has culminated over nearly 15 years of the band's existence into something truly unique and masterful. WEEDEATER takes the listening doomernaut on a slithering journey though a sludgy world of viscous, black molasses riffs that are punctuated by cannon drums and some of the album's most memorable lyrics. Pure, unabashed, musical violence in every form. It's real, and it's dangerous, and it feels so damn good.

    Blood Drive

ASG emerge from the sandy shores of North Carolina to deliver their fourth full length and Relapse debut 'Blood Drive'. Sun soaked groove heavy riffs that reference equal parts Torche and Queens of the Stone Age 'Blood Drive' is nothing short of anthemic. ASG have toured the country relentlessly with the likes of Corrosion of Conformity, Weedeater and Black Tusk. But what's most remarkable about 'Blood Drive' is that any of its 12 instantly memorable songs could just as easily be FM radio smash hits. What sets ASG apart from their swampy peers is singer/guitarist Jason Shi's voice: this is a set of songs that are truly SUNG by a guy who can actually SING. 'Blood Drive' is a kick ass blast of sun that elevates ASG to the level of some of their most well-regarded Relapse label-mates like Baroness and Mastodon

    Endless (Awaiting Repress)

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of the Chicago, IL four-piece psychedelic rock/doom metal band MOUNT SALEM featuring the talents of Emily Kopplin [vocals & organ] - Cody Davidson [drums] - Mark Hewett [bass] - and Kyle Morrison [guitars]. Metal Blade is preparing to release the band's sold out EP Endless in 2014, which will include two brand-new tracks making the release a full-length.

"As soon as Will Palmer from our UK office brought Mount Salem to our attention I knew we had to have the band as a part of our family. Their sound is haunting, melodic yet heavy, and makes the listener nod their head as they take in all the grooves the band lays out in their vintage style of rock and doom metal. I'm really looking forward to getting the full-length version of Endless out to the masses as the new tracks I heard were catchy as hell and flow perfectly with the rest of the album." Kelli Malella (A&R) Metal Blade Records.

"Coming up listening to Metal Blade bands that have influenced mine and countless others' musical taste, it never crossed my mind that I might be a part of such an influence. We are very excited to meet new people, play with some new bands, see new places, and have a good time! We are honored to be a part of Metal Blade, a label that has such a great timeline of music history. We are looking forward to contributing to that history as well. See you out there!" Mark Hewett/ bassist of Mount Salem.

MOUNT SALEM started writing music together in the summer of 2012 and released their first EP, Endless, in the spring of 2013. The band puts a strong emphasis on tone and feeling in both their songs and live performances alike. Most of the band switched from their normal instruments and picked up new ones for this band and the result was much more natural than they had hoped for.

Taking influence from the classics like Black Sabbath and Pentagram, they play loud, heavy rock and roll using all vintage gear. Throwing their own twist of dark and mysterious doom into the music, they invite the listener to step into their sinister realm. The imagery in the lyrics will take you on a ride in which you won't know whether to be scared or grab a sword and join the battle. "Endless feels like it's trapped in the nightmarish head-space of a psychic medium on a bad trip" - Mister Growl of MisterGrowl.com

Mount Salem has toured the Midwest, South, and East coasts. Sharing the stage with bands such as Windhand, Weedeater, Bongripper, LO-Pan, Mothership, and Howl, Mount Salem has fit on a wide variety of heavy shows and brings a live act to counter their music. "This is music that creates images, demands attention, and engages all senses." - Mister Growl of MisterGrowl.com
