War The Band'
Master Of PuppetsRanked 167/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
One of the defining albums of thrash metal, the 1986 album Master of Puppets is arguably Metallica's best as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton. Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about a hundred miles an hour. The striding Battery, the darkly lit Welcome Home (Sanitarium), as well as the complex instrumental, Orion, all gave powerful testament to the band's ever-developing skill and vision. An album with lengthly arrangements (three songs came in at over eight minutes) and an overall eight song onslaught that clocks in at over an hour was unheard of in metal at the time and it confirmed that Metallica was at a different level, a legendary one!1. War MasterPressed From The Original Master Tapes
Recreated Using 'FDR' - Full Dynamic Range Mastering
From the very earliest days of Earache Records, BBC National Radio's John Peel was a huge supporter of the Earache label and its extreme grind core bands. Peel first offered BOLT THROWER a session in 1988, and invited them back at the end of 1988 and again in 1990 to the hallowed Maida Vale studios that helped break the band to mainstream success.
Pressed from the original master tapes. These vinyl albums have been specially recreated using 'FDR' - full dynamic range mastering - allowing the music's nuances to shine through and giving these classic albums a more ferocious and dynamic sound, enabling the listener to immerse in the full audio heaviness like never before.1. REDD-NUC-0819xThy Art Is Murder
Holy WarRare is it for a band to live up to their name so profusely. Since their formation in 2006, New South Wales' Thy Art Is Murder has made killing their business... and as ol' Dave would say, business is good. Their nightmarish void is one where resistance is futile - you can but sit helplessly as the relentless blast beats and gut-ripping guitars pummel you sideways in the best possible way, of course.
With 2013's riff-shitting monolith, "Hate", the Aussie death crew made history: being the first ever extreme metal band to crack the top 40 on home soil, and in the process sit proudly at the top of the Australian Independent Record chart. It was a cycle that would see them play a colossal 342 dates around the world, butchering crowds in each corner of the globe and touring the US more times than every other Australian band out there. Their appearances on touring megafest Summer Slaughter - as well as dates with Suicide Silence, Born Of Osiris and Emmure - soon became the stuff of legend.1. Absolute Genocide

WarringTHE DARCYS are an art rock band from Toronto comprised of Jason Couse [vocals, guitar, keys], Wes Marksell [drums], Michael le Riche [guitar, synth, vocals] and Dave Hurlow [bass].
The band's 2013 studio album, Warring, represents its third release on Arts & Crafts and the final installment in a trilogy of albums that includes T h e D a r c y s and A J A .
Warring was produced by Tom Mcfall and mixed by Dave Schiffman. The album was written over three years and recorded in Toronto during the final six months of 2012 with a focus on sonic detail inspired by studio opuses of the 1970s.
Of the album and title, the band says:
Warring is moving forward. It's learning in motion. Competition and survival, letting go to persevere. It is anxiety about the future and the triumph of life in the moment. It's victory on will alone, the force that eradicates failure as an option.1. Close to Me

At War For YouthSacred Bones is thrilled to present three new songs from an ongoing collaboration between two of Copenhagens most active musicians in its burgeoning punk scene. Loke Rahbek co-runs the Danish label Posh Isolation, sings for the band Sexdrome, and records with Skurv and Damien Dubrovnik while also performing under the solo moniker of LR. Elias Bender Rønnenfelt sings and plays guitar in Iceage and is a member of Marching Church and Pagan Youth. Between the two of them a rich lineage of musical history and influences can be traced, but within the context of SB releases, War is a band who falls somewhere between Daily Void and Trust. Recorded in a basement on four-track cassette in the summer of 2011, using analog synth, pedals, drums and guitar, both members sing and play a bit of everything. It is a compelling and utterly unique new genre, pulling elements as abstract as lo-fi post-apocalyptic punk dirge and early Chicago house music. The b-side, Brodermordet, is a about fratricide, specifically Cain and Abels.
Elias describes their Copenhagen scene as very closely knit a big group of friends who have a very good growing ground for making music and other things. They do everything from putting on shows and playing music together, to running their own stores and labels. It is an inspirational group of motivated young people who have garnered international press attention from NME and Spin to MRR and regional zines like Quality of My Life.1. At War For Youth

War On WomenBaltimore, MD co-ed feminist punk act War On Women have announced their debut full-length, War On Women. Featuring 11 tracks, this S/T record was recently recorded with J. Robbins at the Magpie Cage (Against Me!, Coliseum, Lemuria). These new tracks are a natural progression for the band and a little more polished than their previous efforts, while remaining as blistering as ever. Vocalist Shawna Potter has …plenty of material to pull from when it comes to writing lyrics, considering the pervasive sexism in modern America, she commented.
War On Women formed in 2010 by several veterans of the Baltimore rock scene, including members of AVEC and Liars Academy. Describing their sound as thrash rock meets riot grrrl, War On Women write songs too inventive and too loud to be overshadowed by their equally powerful messages. The band's furious live sets capture all of the brevity and intensity of hardcore punk with another level of lyrical and musical sophistication. War On Women's songs attack sexist attitudes and institutionalized patriarchy women everywhere still face in the 21st century with humor, intelligence, righteous anger and monster riffs.1. Servilia

War Of KingsTheir anticipated follow-up to 2012's 'Bag of Bones,' Europe will release 'War of Kings' via UDR Music. The effort marks the tenth studio album from the Swedish hard rock moguls, as well as the first to be released as part of their new record deal, and will feature eleven prominent new selections which feature such titles as "Children of the Mind" and "Days of Rock n Roll."
Lead vocalist Joey Tempest says that he and the members of Europe turned towards style of the artists that influenced their development on their upcoming offering. "'War of Kings' is the album we always wanted to make, ever since we were kids listening to bands like [Led] Zeppelin, [Deep] Purple and [Black] Sabbath. And after hearing Dave Cobb amazing production for Rival Sons we simply had to work with him. Our adventure is still ON!"
Tempest previously commented on the band's decision to appoint Dave Cobb as the producer of 'War of Kings,' explaining, "He is one of few producers out there who is saving rock 'n' roll. When we first heard 'Pressure And Time' by Rival Sons, we just went, 'Who the hell produced this stuff?' It's got tons of heart and soul, it's cocky, it's got that swagger, it's alive and real. That's the journey we're on with Europe, trying to dig deeper to find more soulful expressions and play straight from the core. So we're extremely excited to bring this guy into our team."
UDR president Ulrike Rudolph was similarly impressed with Europe's forthcoming venture. "We are always looking to expand the label's stable of bands with quality, not quantity, and Europe represent the finest in supremely written hard rock music," he said. "They are a group who refuse to rest on their past and continue to grow as artists and musicians, so we are absolutely delighted they have come to us."

After The WarAfter the War is the eighth studio album by Irish guitarist Gary Moore, released in 1989.
Much like Moore's previous album Wild Frontier, After the War contains elements of Celtic music. The instrumental Dunluce is named after Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland.
The track Led Clones features Ozzy Osbourne sharing lead vocals with Moore. The song pokes fun at bands such as Kingdom Come, who were quite popular at the time and were based on a Led Zeppelin type sound and image; it also appeared on a compilation album. Moore again pays tribute to the memory of his long-time friend and colleague Phil Lynott with the song Blood of Emeralds.
After the War would be Moore's last foray into conventional hard rock, and his last rock album of any kind until Dark Days in Paradise, released in 1997; starting with his next album, Still Got the Blues, he would primarily switch to playing blues.1. After The War

Sleeping Through The WarProduced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Rival Sons)
and mixed/engineered by UK-bred young-gun Eddie Spear, All Them Witches'
"Sleeping Through The War" is the quartet's most bold and well-crafted record
to date. The album's creation marks the f irst time in the band's history that
a record was written before entering the studio. This process allowed for an
alignment of the band's art, desire and time. Convening in Nashville for only
six days after a year of relentlessly touring their New West Records debut
"Dying Surfer Meets Their Maker," the band's spirit coalesced in a rhythm of
statement and melody that simply needs to be heard...repeatedly.
With the guidance of Cobb and Spear, "Sleeping Through The War" captures the
truest energy of the group, full blast, fun and contemplative. The record was
made with volume in mind. "Sleeping Through The War" is meant to be played
loud, cranked up and without reservation. Feel it live through your stereo
system or listen to it speak in tongues through your headphones.
The sounds are nothing without the songs and the songs are nothing without
the lyrics. This record is a result of constant touring, world travel,
overstimulated/divided humanity, and a learning of awareness and compassion.

Love And WarThough Daniel Merriweather may be best known in the U.S. as the remarkably soulful voice behind Stop Me (a standout track from DJ/producer Mark Ronsons eclectic album version that went to #1 on the UKs airplay chart), the 27-year-old Melbourne native firmly establishes himself as a solo artist in his own right on Love & War, which pulses with 60s soul keyboards and horns, warm textures of acoustic and electric guitar, and cinematic string arrangements, all anchored by Merriweathers combustible vocals. Love & War is also a showcase for Merriweathers considerable songwriting talents. He wrote nearly every song on the album with various musician friends, and then presented his compositions to Ronson (who produced the album) and his backing band, The Dap Kings (of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings), who also played on Amy Winehouses Back to Black and Ronsons Version.1. Band of Brothers is a 2001 American war drama miniseries based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's 1993 non-fiction book of the same name. The executive producers were Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who had collaborated on the 1998 World War II film Saving Private Ryan. The series won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards in 2001 for best miniseries.
Band of Brothers is a dramatized account of Easy Company (part of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment), assigned to the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Over the course of ten episodes, the series details the company's exploits during the war. It was the most expensive television miniseries made by HBO or any other television network when it was created in 2001.
The music for the series was written and composed by Michael Kamen, who worked with Pink Floyd for their 1982 movie The Wall and conducted The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for Metallica's S&M. Michael Kamen also composed scores for Highlander, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard. License To Kill, Last Action Hero, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and many more. Sadly he passed away in 2003.LP 1

New York Before The WarJesse Malin returns in the New Year with a brand new album: New York Before The War, preceded by a single, Addicted.
Arriving almost five years on from his last record (2010's Love It to Life), Jesse's artistic ambitions for New York Before the War, were high: he knew he had to make it count. "I wanted to make a record that encompassed everything I've done, since I started with my hardcore band, Heart Attack, when I was twelve or or thirteen through bands like D Generation and then my solo career, but I also wanted to challenge the listeners who have been with me - and challenge myself."
Pared down from close to forty songs, New York Before the War album more than matches that ambition: A soundtrack to a life lived with meaning. "This is an era when music is so disposable," Malin worries. "People talk about the death of the album and even the death of rock & roll. But this is not just a shuffle of songs. There is a cinematic thread, a story."
Sessions for the album began in Virginia, Nashville before moving on to New York, finishing up at the Magic Shop in Soho. Players include such downtown New York all-stars as guitarist Derek Cruz, bassist Catherine Popper and drummer Randy Schrager. Don Dilego produced early sessions for the album in Virginia, and Malin and Cruz co-produced in New York. Brian Thorn, who worked on David Bowie's The Next Day, engineered and mixed the album.
Opening with The Dreamers, a haunting ballad that evokes both the alienation and the sense of deep connection that travel can bring (and very nearly became the album's title track), the album moves on through darker meditations like She's So Dangerous and Bar Life. Elsewhere, taut, upbeat rockers like Freeway (which features a blistering solo by the MC5's Wayne Kramer) and Turn Up the Mains (with Alejandro Escovedo on backing vocals) dictate the pace and Peter Buck contributes a vintage R.E.M.-style guitar part to I Would Do It For You, a tale of personal loyalty filled with longing and an aching sense of conviction.1. Lyle Lovett & His Large BandLyle Lovett and His Large Band remains the big man's most ambitious album in many ways. A smart split is effected, and not only between styles--the horn-driven swing of the first half backs the record's wittiest, slyest songs, while the country-folk numbers are among Lovett's most pensive. Star WarsStar Wars is the Grammy-award winning band's ninth studio album and its first since 2011's The Whole Love.
The new album was recorded at the band's Chicago loft and features 11 original Wilco-penned tunes. Wilco is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, and its label dBpm has recently released two anniversary-related collections: Alpha Mike Foxtrot, a box set of rarities and What's Your 20?, a compilation of studio tracks from the band's first eight albums.
"We've been feeling very fortunate lately being reminded of how long we've been able to do this," Tweedy said. "We believe one of the primary reasons for our good fortune has been our audiences reaction to our impulse to be heard and our habit of erring on the side of that desire to override financial ambition. Not that we don't enjoy getting paid. We do. But this is a recommitment to the idea that music is more important to our lives. Art is more worthy of our striving. And fun is more sustaining than cash. It's not intended to be a comment on the music business, just one band's wish to give our fans a jolt of joy: a fun surprise. Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
On Winds of War and Peace, conductor Lowell Graham takes the National Symphonic Winds ensemble through a program of stirring orchestrations and marches. Liberty Fanfare was composed for the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. The fanfare set the stage for one of the most spectacular celebrations in America's history. Samuel Barber's Commando March composed in 1943, represents Barber's first band work. Written in a quadruple meter, this work utilizes the constant contrast of dotted and triplet rhythms. Roger Nixon's Festival Fanfare March, was recognized for superb composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973. It is a work that's technical, bright in color and effervescent in spirit. The album also includes Victory at Sea, El Camino Real, A Santa Cecilla and Symphonic Dance No. 3.
Graham, a native of Greeley, Colorado, has earned recognition as one of America's most talented young conductors. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. He was also the first person to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Catholic University of America.
Graham has led orchestras and bands on record and in performance throughout the world. He is the current conductor and commander of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band.

The Name Of This Band Is Talking HeadsAlthough most people probably think the only Talking Heads live release is Stop Making Sense, the fact is that there's an earlier, better live album called The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Originally released in 1982 on LP and cassette, the album chronicles the growth of the band, both stylistically and personnel-wise. The first LP is the original quartet version of the band, recorded between 1977 and 1979, performing excellent versions of tunes (mostly) off 77 and More Songs About Buildings and Food. Also included were the previously unavailable A Clean Break and Love Goes to a Building on Fire, as well as early versions of Memories Can't Wait and Air. The second LP comes from the Remain in Light tour, recorded in 1980 and 1981.
In order to present something close to the music on that album, the original quartet lineup was greatly expanded. Added were two percussionists (Steven Stanley, Jose Rossy), two backup singers (Nona Hendryx, Dollette McDonald), Busta Cherry Jones on bass, Bernie Worrell (!) on keys, and a young Adrian Belew on lead guitar. The excitement of this material is palpable, and the muscular band rips into these tunes with more power than the originals in most cases. Drugs gets revamped for live performance, and Houses in Motion kicks into high gear with a great art-funk coda. Belew is absolutely on fire throughout, especially on The Great Curve and Crosseyed and Painless, where his deranged feedback soloing has never sounded better. At this point in their career, Talking Heads were still basically an underground band; it was Burning Down the House that really thrust them into the mainstream, and Stop Making Sense documents their arrival as a more or less mainstream act. The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads captures a hungry band on its way up, performing with a fire that was never matched on later tours. Unfortunately, The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads remained unavailable on compact disc for years, which is a shame since it's arguably one of their finest releases.
