    Maggot Brain

Ranked 486/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Maggot Brain, released in 1971, is Funkadelic's all-out masterpiece. Absolutely no one working in soul and funk at the time had the scope, vision and, let's be honest, sheer lunacy to pull off the kind of record that George Clinton and his collaborators have made here. Eccentric funk jams are bookended with tracks like Maggot Brain and Wars Of Armageddon, which are some of the heaviest tracks ever committed to tape. The title track and album opener are nothing short of mind-blowing. An essential classic and the deepest album to come out of the Parliament-Funkadelic canon.

    At War For Youth

Sacred Bones is thrilled to present three new songs from an ongoing collaboration between two of Copenhagens most active musicians in its burgeoning punk scene. Loke Rahbek co-runs the Danish label Posh Isolation, sings for the band Sexdrome, and records with Skurv and Damien Dubrovnik while also performing under the solo moniker of LR. Elias Bender Rønnenfelt sings and plays guitar in Iceage and is a member of Marching Church and Pagan Youth. Between the two of them a rich lineage of musical history and influences can be traced, but within the context of SB releases, War is a band who falls somewhere between Daily Void and Trust. Recorded in a basement on four-track cassette in the summer of 2011, using analog synth, pedals, drums and guitar, both members sing and play a bit of everything. It is a compelling and utterly unique new genre, pulling elements as abstract as lo-fi post-apocalyptic punk dirge and early Chicago house music. The b-side, Brodermordet, is a about fratricide, specifically Cain and Abels.

Elias describes their Copenhagen scene as very closely knit a big group of friends who have a very good growing ground for making music and other things. They do everything from putting on shows and playing music together, to running their own stores and labels. It is an inspirational group of motivated young people who have garnered international press attention from NME and Spin to MRR and regional zines like Quality of My Life.

    War Psalms

Morning Glory have completed work on their new album War Psalms, packed with 13 memorable songs. Read what Ezra Kire, singer of Morning Glory, had to say:

We took the summer off to record this record. We were driving Jesse (Cannon) nuts by camping out in his studio. I was up to writing at all hours of the night, taking brief naps under the piano. In the end we had 27 tracks from which to assemble this album. People who like earlier M-glory are definitely gonna like it. It's faster, heavier, & more raw & stripped down than Poets, but retains that anthemic morning glory message. Brian Viglione (dresden dolls, and now violent femmes) added massive strength to the entire record with his powerhouse drumming style. Music is a forward moving journey & I can't wait for it to be released. Everyone who's heard it agrees that this record rocks.

    After The War

After the War is the eighth studio album by Irish guitarist Gary Moore, released in 1989.

Much like Moore's previous album Wild Frontier, After the War contains elements of Celtic music. The instrumental Dunluce is named after Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland.

The track Led Clones features Ozzy Osbourne sharing lead vocals with Moore. The song pokes fun at bands such as Kingdom Come, who were quite popular at the time and were based on a Led Zeppelin type sound and image; it also appeared on a compilation album. Moore again pays tribute to the memory of his long-time friend and colleague Phil Lynott with the song Blood of Emeralds.

After the War would be Moore's last foray into conventional hard rock, and his last rock album of any kind until Dark Days in Paradise, released in 1997; starting with his next album, Still Got the Blues, he would primarily switch to playing blues.

    Remain In Light (Awaiting Repress)

Ranked 126/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Cut from the Original Analog Masters and Pressed at RTI for Stunning Sound!

Formed in the mid 70s by art school chums David Byrne, Chris Franz, and Tina Weymouth and ex-Modern Lover Jerry Harrison, Talking Heads rose out of the CBGB punk crucible and proved themselves one of the most artistically adventurous and influential bands of all time. Their visionary, polyrhythmic sound fused elements including rock, funk, and punk with diverse world beats, avant-garde minimalism, and pure pop genius.

From their 1977 debut through their Brian Eno and self-produced classics and on to their swan song (1988's Steve Lillywhite-produced Naked), Talking Heads constantly broke creative boundaries while also scoring smart radio hits including "Burning Down The House," "Wild Wild Life," and, from 1980's Remain In Light, the brilliant "Once In A Lifetime."

Considered by many fans and critics alike to be the band's best album, Remain In Light was the third release in the Heads/Eno trilogy and fourth overall. More melodic and funkier sounding than that of its predecessors, the recording finds the band further exploring the African rhythms hinted at on 1979's Fear of Music with the help of a growing personnel that now included Adrian Belew (guitar), Bernie Worrell (keyboards), Steven Scales (percussion) and backing vocalists. As propulsive and essential as ever here on 180 gram vinyl courtesy of Warner Bros. Records!

"On this New Wave watershed, the avant-punk avatars became polyrhythmic pop magicians. David Byrne and Co. combined the thrust of P-Funk, the kinky grooves of Afropop and the studied adventurousness of producer Brian Eno - and they still had a pop hit with 'Once in a Lifetime'." - Rolling Stone

The Warner Brothers Years: The 12 Collection

R&B's most enduring duo Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson sure know how to make it right when it comes to soulful R&B gems and lush dance grooves from golden era of '70s soul and disco. They recorded for Warner Bros. from '73 through to the early '80s, and Rhino's ASHFORD & SIMPSON - THE WARNER BROS. YEARS: THE 12 COLLECTION both rediscovers and re-imagines the best of those years.

The 12 Collection gathers together 12 tracks, pressed on 180-gram vinyl 12 singles, including many of the beyond-rare 12 mixes that were previously never commercially released, and originally only appeared as promo-only 12 extended 'disco mixes' which featured the handywork of Valerie's brother Jimmy Simpson, a pioneer of 'intros and breaks' which now form the basis of much of today's dance music. The original mixes are cut at 45rpm and record one couples One More Try with Tried Tested & Found True, record two pairs Over & Over with It Seems To Hang On. Record three features Don't Cost You Nothing backed with Bourgie Bourgie, and record four backs Found A Cure with Stay Free.

The fifth 12 is a Remixes EP, cut at 33rpm, and featuring four contemporary retellings of Ashford & Simpson musical lore by star remixers whose admiration for the songs pulses through every groove. DJ Tom Moulton's revealing take on the hit Found A Cure, including his unearthing of elements that were long forgotten and Paul Simpson and John Morales reconsider Tried, Tested And Found True, Dimitri re-edits Stay Free, to become a slamming club mix and Tommy Musto re-touches It Seems To Hang On to create a sexy between-the-sheets groove. 'These remixers', noted Simpson, 'did an incredible job breathing new life into our songs while maintaining the integrity of them.

All five 12 singles come on original contemporary labels and are housed in the Disco range bags of the period, housed in an attractive 12 x 12 slipcase box. This release is a strictly limited edition of 3,000 copies worldwide.

his debut full-length LP "Roll The Bones." Nearly two years later, as word of his haunting lo-fi recordings and contrastingly explosive live show spreads, the self-released album continues to sell at a vigorous pace, consistently ranking near the top
of Bandcamp's digital best seller charts. The album was recently released as a limited edition LP, which sold out almost immediately. New listeners around the world continue to discover his music every day, often through a series of live performance videos on YouTube (collectively over 1.5 million views). His videos for Myspace and Cadillac's "One Two Watch"
documentary series have also gathered over 3 million views alone.

    Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense

Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense: Fela explains the role of the teacher in any society with the concept that: all the things we consider as problems, and all the good things we accept from life as good, begin with what we are taught. The individual teaching begins with when we are children - our mother is our teacher. When we come of school age, our teacher is the school-teacher. At the university, the lecturers and professors are our teachers. After university-when we start to work, government becomes the individual's teacher. When then is government's teacher? 'Culture and Tradition' says Fela. This is the order of things everywhere in the world. However, it is the problem side of teacher and student that interests Fela in this song. Because every country in this world except in Africa, it is the respective culture and tradition of that country that guides the government on how to rule their people. Going for specifics, Fela mentions France, Germany, England, Korea, Japan, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Etc., it is the culture of these countries that shapes and guides their respective government's decisions. The culture and traditions of these countries serve as a teacher to their respective governments. Turing his attention to Africa and her problems. Problems which he had sang about: corruption, inflation, mismanagement, authority stealing, electoral fraud, the latest addition which even makes him laugh is -austerity. Fela says if you ask him why 'austerity makes him laugh? The answer is that it is beyond crying. The government steals money from the country, the same government is introducing austerity measures-forcing the poor people to pay for their own greed and calling it 'austerity measures'. How funny if to say the least. Who taught African 'leaders' to rule the way they do today? 'Na the oyinbo' (meaning in Yoruba language: 'it is them white folks') referring to ex-colonial ruler of each country. Take electoral fraud, which is a true test of our democracy. Many African leaders rig elections with impunity and their respective ex-colonial rulers say nothing against this form of 'democracy'. While the same 'white folks' are quick to claim credit for Africa's 'civilization'-which Fela disputes in this song. Is this democracy? , he asks. Turning to other problems like the ever-growing gap between the rich and the poor. Particularly, since the rich are the rules, and also the people stealing the country into poverty. Is this democracy? Or dem-all-crazy? In conclusion, as an African personality, Fela says he is not in the same league as those who believe in dem-all-crazy, so he calls on the Western powers who claim to be Africa's teachers not to teach him nonsense-Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense.

Look and Laugh: By 1981 when Fela wrote and started to perform live the song Look And Laugh, he was living a life that could be described as a recluse. Fela, who loved to go out in public places, clubs, etc. Suddenly, was always found sleeping or playing sax at home with women around him, or performing at the Africa Shrine. His old attitude of keeping abreast of events, giving lectures at universities and institutions of higher learning stopped. He rarely gave press conferences or press releases, like he used to do. Finally he wrote the song to explain what was going-on with him. He sang: ' many of you go dey wonder why your man never write new song! wetin I dey do be say I dey look and laugh.' Meaning: many of you must have been wondering why, your man has not written new songs! what I am doing is just look and laugh! Fela went on to explain his contributions and sacrifices for the cause of black emancipation, the countless beatings and arrests from the Nigerian police and army, his trials and tribulations, his ultimate sacrifice being the burning down of Kalakuta by the Nigeria army. But despite his sacrifices and sufferings like millions of other Africans, it was obvious that things were not getting better for the average man on the street. There is still injustice everywhere, no freedom, no happiness. All these made him feel disillusioned and all he could do about the situation is to Look and Laugh.

Just Like That: This song is a call to arms from Fela to all Africans to rise up and do something about the political, economic, social and cultural retrogression that has plagued Africa since independence. For more than three decades of independence, there is glaring mismanagement of people's lives, corruption in the highest echelon of government-all these carried out with impunity-'Just Like That' he sings. Using the Nigerian experience as an example of the 'lack of maintenance culture', in Africa's present day neo-colonial administrations, he says: 'White man ruled us for many years, we had electricity constantly, our leaders take over! No electricity in town-Just like that!' Fela explains that the attempt to transplant 'Western style democracy' in an African society is the cause of all the problems. Despite calls for African Unity from leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, who said: '..Until all foreign institutions and culture are removed from the African land, that is when the African genius will be born and African personality will find its fulfillment..'. Instead of heeding Nkrumah's call, Nigeria's political founding fathers, like most African leaders at independence, chose the option of fashioning the constitutions of their respective countries after those of the departing colonial 'masters'-Just Like That. The ambiguity of such decisions can be seen in the poor imitation we make of our attempt at 'Western style democracy'. Persistent political gangsterism, military coups, and sometimes wars, are means used to enforce the already compromised constitutions. As another example of enforcing a fragile constitution, Fela stresses the face that in 1966, Nigeria for a civil war to keep the country ONE. General Gowon, the military head of state, divided Nigeria into twelve administrative regions, subsequent administrations divided the regions into more-Just Like That. He adds that if the idea of the civil war was to keep the country ONE, sub-dividing Nigeria into more regions would separate rather than unite the country. Turning to the position of traditional rulers in the mess called government, Fela sings: ' nothing good for town to give the youths good examples, how our traditional ruler they do, them come make youths look-up to Europe and USA, in those places them don lose them common sense, na the number of Nuclear weapons you get, na him give you power pass! Right now! Fight now! Suffer must stop! Just Like That". Therefore, calling on the people to fight now for a better society.

    Civil War

After a seemingly infinite absence, the Dillinger Four delivers their long-promised fourth proper full-length, Civil War. The release marks the end of an agonizing 6 year span that fans have endured since the last D4 studio album and allays the speculation and rumors that have plagued the band for years. The Dillinger Four prove that they haven't lost a step here as Civil War is littered with irresistible hooks, a raw sound and accented by dueling lead vocals peppered with sharp lyrical witicisms.

    Nuclear War

    Pressed On Red Colored Vinyl

Nuclear War, Sun Ra's groove-infested x-rated warning, was an early 80s underground hit when it appeared on a 12-inch (plus the Saturn album A Fireside Chat With Lucifer). Ra and crew expose the deathly horror with deadly serious call-and-response, leavened with funk and a pinch of humor for better digestion, eyes gleaming in a laid-back, lilting, cosmo-gangster-lean. Outer Reach Intense Energy and Twilight are originally unreleased works, sonically extending the radioactive theme.

Outer Reach (1977) is a soundclash of explosion and fallout, planetary screams, whistling missiles, eternal agony, detonation, damnation. Dashed hopes and dreams blasted to the farthest nebulae.

"Twilight, recorded at the Tip-Top Club in 1963, exhibits Sun Ra's xylophonic electric piano laced with clouds of mournful horns, teetering on madness, an impossible circus, bordering on redemption in the wilderness of the Sun's possible return.

    Holy War

Rare is it for a band to live up to their name so profusely. Since their formation in 2006, New South Wales' Thy Art Is Murder has made killing their business... and as ol' Dave would say, business is good. Their nightmarish void is one where resistance is futile - you can but sit helplessly as the relentless blast beats and gut-ripping guitars pummel you sideways in the best possible way, of course.

With 2013's riff-shitting monolith, "Hate", the Aussie death crew made history: being the first ever extreme metal band to crack the top 40 on home soil, and in the process sit proudly at the top of the Australian Independent Record chart. It was a cycle that would see them play a colossal 342 dates around the world, butchering crowds in each corner of the globe and touring the US more times than every other Australian band out there. Their appearances on touring megafest Summer Slaughter - as well as dates with Suicide Silence, Born Of Osiris and Emmure - soon became the stuff of legend.

    War Master

Pressed From The Original Master Tapes

Recreated Using 'FDR' - Full Dynamic Range Mastering

From the very earliest days of Earache Records, BBC National Radio's John Peel was a huge supporter of the Earache label and its extreme grind core bands. Peel first offered BOLT THROWER a session in 1988, and invited them back at the end of 1988 and again in 1990 to the hallowed Maida Vale studios that helped break the band to mainstream success.

Pressed from the original master tapes. These vinyl albums have been specially recreated using 'FDR' - full dynamic range mastering - allowing the music's nuances to shine through and giving these classic albums a more ferocious and dynamic sound, enabling the listener to immerse in the full audio heaviness like never before.

    War On Women

Baltimore, MD co-ed feminist punk act War On Women have announced their debut full-length, War On Women. Featuring 11 tracks, this S/T record was recently recorded with J. Robbins at the Magpie Cage (Against Me!, Coliseum, Lemuria). These new tracks are a natural progression for the band and a little more polished than their previous efforts, while remaining as blistering as ever. Vocalist Shawna Potter has …plenty of material to pull from when it comes to writing lyrics, considering the pervasive sexism in modern America, she commented.

War On Women formed in 2010 by several veterans of the Baltimore rock scene, including members of AVEC and Liars Academy. Describing their sound as thrash rock meets riot grrrl, War On Women write songs too inventive and too loud to be overshadowed by their equally powerful messages. The band's furious live sets capture all of the brevity and intensity of hardcore punk with another level of lyrical and musical sophistication. War On Women's songs attack sexist attitudes and institutionalized patriarchy women everywhere still face in the 21st century with humor, intelligence, righteous anger and monster riffs.

    Love And War

Though Daniel Merriweather may be best known in the U.S. as the remarkably soulful voice behind Stop Me (a standout track from DJ/producer Mark Ronsons eclectic album version that went to #1 on the UKs airplay chart), the 27-year-old Melbourne native firmly establishes himself as a solo artist in his own right on Love & War, which pulses with 60s soul keyboards and horns, warm textures of acoustic and electric guitar, and cinematic string arrangements, all anchored by Merriweathers combustible vocals. Love & War is also a showcase for Merriweathers considerable songwriting talents. He wrote nearly every song on the album with various musician friends, and then presented his compositions to Ronson (who produced the album) and his backing band, The Dap Kings (of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings), who also played on Amy Winehouses Back to Black and Ronsons Version.

    War Of The Superbikes

Originally released in 1985, The Meatmen's second album, War of the Superbikes, teamed the shameless and poignantly hysterical Tesco Vee with Minor Threat's legendary guitar duo Brian Baker and Lyle Preslar for one of the great summer albums of all time. The hardcore musicianship is superb, as are the timelessly vulgar lyrics. In addition to such classics as Abba God and Me and Pillar of Sodom, this release also features the beautiful, heart wrenching Kisses in the Sunset, with Tesco crooning with Latin love. Long out of print, it is now back with the original cover faithfully reproduced as a limited edition of 1000 copies on collectible clear vinyl.
