Permanent VacationPermanent Vacation is the ninth studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, originally released in August 1987 by Geffen Records.
The album marks a turning point in the band's career. It is their first to employ professional songwriters, instead of featuring material solely composed by members of the band. This came at the suggestion of executive John Kalodner. He also pushed the band to work with producer Bruce Fairbairn, who remained with them for another two albums. It was also the first Aerosmith album to be promoted by heavy music video airplay on MTV. Though Done with Mirrors was intended to mark Aerosmith's comeback, Permanent Vacation is often considered their true comeback, as it was the band's first truly popular album since their reunion. Rag Doll, Dude (Looks Like a Lady), and Angel became major hits (all three charted in the Top 20) and helped Permanent Vacation become the band's greatest success in a decade.1. Heart's Done Time

Extended VacationOnce dubbed the rhythm section's revenge by Jim O'Rourke, On Fillmore is back with their most elaborate work, Extended Vacation. The duo is formed by bassist Darin Gray and percussionist Glenn Kotche, who were originally hand-picked by O'Rourke as the rhythm section for his album Eurekaand joined him on several tours and his next two albums. It was in 2000 during a gig at Scott Walker's Meltdown Festival in London while touring with O'Rourke that On Fillmore was conceptualized. The GatheringThe Gathering, Arbouretum's fourth album, was to a large extent inspired by The Red Book by Carl Jung, or more specifically, Jung's pursuit of the inner images that led to the book's writing. Dave Heumann, the singer, guitarist and main lyricist of Arbouretum, has long been a fan of experiences that surpass comprehension and describe the numinous. The narrative of losing one's way and finding it again resonated deeply and it was in this context that the songs that comprise The Gathering came to be. With elaborate and very allegorical imagery, Heumann's lyrics take the listener with him on an adventure, filled with conflict, redemption and revelation.
The Gathering was recorded by Matt Boynton at New York's Vacation Island Recording. Boynton, who had recorded most of Arbouretum's 2007 release, Rites of Uncovering, was well-positioned to embrace the overall concept.1. The White Bird

Mellow DramaIt's hard to ignore the sound of well placed hand claps, the echoing ring of a tambourine, chiming guitar and luscious vocals. That sound was fantastic sixty years ago, and those that follow the recipe with the required chops can make it sound great today. Louise Burns' debut album is full of dreamy numbers like opener Chinook (Sing From the Valley of Doubt) and the playful Buddy Holly-esque first single, What Do You Wanna Do. Citing Mazzy Star, Patsy Cline, '60s girls groups and Johnny Marr as inspiration, Burns holds up to her heroes. She dazzles in the vocal department throughout the album, but it's on the dangerously stripped-down Island Vacation that listeners will fully surrender to her charms.1. REDD-FIV-5214xThe Dirty Heads
Swim Team (Pre-Order)Music thrives on freedom. Without boundaries or blueprints, songs not only come to life, but last for a very long time to come.
Dirty Heads' sixth full-length offering, SWIM TEAM [Five Seven Music], finds the group at its most free. The Orange County, CA quintet-Jared "Dirty J" Watson [co-lead vocals], Dustin "Duddy B" Bushnell [co-lead vocals, guitar], Jon Olazabal [percussion], Matt Ochoa [drums], and David Foral [bass]-traffic between alternative, hip-hop, reggae, and rock with the same spirit and spark that's powered them since the beginning.
As a result, the hooks naturally became bigger, the experimentation got bolder, and the smoke blazed brighter
"We've put in so much hard work over the years that we have the freedom to do whatever we want now," affirms Jared. "Making the new record, I re-fell in love with everything about being in this band: writing music, playing shows, having fun, and where we're at. We spent every day not only working on songs, but laughing our asses off. What other people said didn't matter. The rules of being a proper songwriter and all of that bullshit didn't matter. If something felt good, we left it in there. It was so cool to get back to that feeling. Creating music was completely free. It was just fucking fun!"
For the better part of 15 years, Dirty Heads have quietly worked towards this point. In 2008, they emerged with the fan favorite full-length debut, Any Point In A Storm. Signature single "Lay Me Down" achieved an RIAA gold certification and clinched #1 on the Billboard Alternative Chart for 11 weeks-a record run for that year. 2014 saw Sound of Change debut at #8 on the Billboard Top 200, garner acclaim from the likes of Esquire, and vault "My Sweet Summer" to the top of Alternative Radio. Most recently, 2016's self-titled Dirty Heads went Top 15 on the Top 200 and spawned the smash "That's All I Need," which racked up over 10.5 million Spotify streams and counting. Noisey summed up the album best as, "Killer." Simultaneously, they remain one of the world's most engaging and exhilarating live acts, selling out sheds coast to coast.
During early 2017, the group started writing songs with no expectations or plans and soon found themselves working on what would become SWIM TEAM. That boundless environment immediately fostered inspiration.
"We had some time off, and we were like, 'We might as well get in the studio and see what happens'," recalls Duddy. "In doing that, we were able to come up with some really good ideas. We didn't have any pressure to put out new music. It's a lot more ambient and simple. We went heavier on the hip-hop, which I love. After the first song, we agreed to just finish a record. We were all inspired."
In order to capture those moments, Dirty Heads handpicked a team of collaborators-Jonas Jeberg [Demi Lovato, Juicy J, Jason Derulo], "Lay Me Down" partner-in-crime Rome [Enrique Iglesias] of Sublime with Rome, Blueprint [Jay-Z, Kanye West, Timbaland, Eminem, Nas, Prodigy], Oren Yoel [Miley Cyrus, Kanye West], HEAVY [Andrew McMahon], and The Score-and recorded between Los Angeles and Orange County.
"On the last album, it was like a mad speed dating rush with a bunch of producers to see who worked best," says Jared. "We had never done that before, and it was cool. It was a different vibe, studio, and guy every day. There are only a few producers on SWIM TEAM. The only new guys were HEAVY, and we hit it off immediately. We were molding and mutating what Dirty Heads are but with something new. We wanted to create songs we hadn't heard before."
That brings us to the first single "Vacation." Produced by Jeberg, "Vacation" sways from bright sun-soaked piano and booming horns into an unshakable and hashtaggable chant, "Hey, I'm on vacation every single day cuz I love my occupation. Hey, I'm on vacation, if you don't like your life then you should go and change it."
"We spent eight years in a van, worked hard, and now we're here," says Duddy. "It's almost like a vacation now."
"I want 'Vacation' to speak to people out there who have paid their dues and love their jobs," adds Jared. "For those who don't enjoy what they do every day, it sends a message that, 'It's not too late to do something else.' If you're not happy, life is way too fucking short to hang around and do things you don't love. We're blessed to do something we're passionate about. We hope you feel the same!"
Working with HEAVY, the emotional "Celebrate" volleys from vulnerable verses into confessional raps and a heart-wrenching refrain about being away from home. It's a classic pop ballad Dirty Heads-style with the power to resonate amongst listeners everywhere.
"It strikes a chord for those of us who travel a lot and leave friends and families at home," explains Duddy. "We miss so much on the road. We're humans. We have wives. We have kids. We're happy to do what we love, but at the same time we miss our loved ones."
Then there's "High Tea," which tows the line between 1940s-inspired crooning and grimy East Coast rhyme gymnastics like The Ink Spots guesting on Paul's Boutique.
"That's my favorite song we've ever written," beams Jared. "The melody was super catchy, and there's an old school guitar part. We juxtapose those mellow, airy, and ethereal elements with hard-hitting hip-hop. We were drinking these weed kombuchas at the time," he laughs.
In the end, SWIM TEAM represents Dirty Heads at their most dynamic, diverse, and definitive.
"When you hear it, I just want you to walk away thinking, 'Damn, that sounds like Dirty Heads'," concludes Duddy.
Jared leaves off, "I want you to feel the same way I did making it. Join this weird, odd, and wonderful secret society we've created over the past fifteen years. You're part of it now. Welcome to the team."1. Staloney

Deep TripDestruction Unit are an American band formed in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. Dug up from the sonic landfills of the cosmos, these radical desert dwellers have built a reputation for both mesmerizing and terrorizing crowds with their sheer
power and intensity.
Formed by Ryan Rousseau, D. Unit was initially a synthheavy three piece whose other members were Jay Reatard and Alicja Trout (Lost Sounds); likewise Rousseau was also in the Reatards before Jay went solo. Born out of the nucleus of the Memphis Goner Records scene and transplanted into Tempe, AZ, Rousseau has grown the band in the last few years into a full sonic assault, which now includes three guitar players (himself, Nick Nappa & Jesco Aurelius), his brother Rusty Rousseau on bass, and a 19 year-old classically trained drummer, Andrew Flores. This line-up has released several cassettes on their own label Ascetic House, a small run lP, Void on Jolly Dream and most recently a limited edition 7 on Suicide Squeeze.
Deep Trip is their first proper studio album, produced by Ben Greenberg of The Men, Hubble, and Pygmy Shrews at Vacation Island in NY. It's the first long player which truly captures their burning spirits. Morphine boogie for the 21st century noise addict. A spiritual odyssey of sadomasochistic self-loathing with songs about love and freedom. Selling drugs to make music to sell drugs to; aggressive psychedelic sprawl at its finest. LA EPEarlier this year, Atlanta's Dog Bite found themselves with downtime in Los Angeles between a successful tour with labelmates Toro Y Moi and shows at SXSW in Austin. The four-piece that makes up the touring group started messing around with different sounds and came up with their rst full-band release, the LA EP. This document of the road-tested crew is a stunning sequel to Velvet Changes, the band's debut LP, which showcased the talents of singer-songwriter Phil Jones and bassist Woody
The LA EP begins with "Warm, Wake Up," a song that
captures the bliss of a sunny day in the palm tree-dotted landscape and the romantic intrigue of Hollywood's studio lots. Motoring back down that winding road, we hear "Hunting Seasons where mid-20th century boogie haunts the track's guitars as the reverberating beat oats us back up to the clouds.
A feeling of melancholia drifts throughout the EP's songs. But the saddest part about this collection is its 13-minute length. It ies by like a short vacation or a cool breeze. But much more than sorrow for its passing, the LA EP inspires excitement for the next gust of wind.1. Warm, Wake Up

SimplicityYou can count the number of bands who've stayed together for almost 30 years on
two hands, and you can use just one to count those who've consistently released
quality material for the duration of those almost three decades. The Bouncing Souls
enter that esteemed category, and in keeping with their D.I.Y. roots, they've done it
without a major label, corporate radio, MTV, or teen magazine pinups. The Bouncing
Souls are nothing short of a legacy, and with their new release Simplicity they're
showing just why they've become one of the most respected and appreciated punk
bands of all time.
For their newest album, "Simplicity", The Bouncing Souls headed back into the
studio with John Seymour (who previously produced How I Spent My Summer
Vacation and Anchors Aweigh) to craft their highly anticipated new album. Simplicity
is easily the band's strongest, most anthemic material to date. The Bouncing
Souls will be on tour all year to support the release, as well as headlining major

Worldwild (On Sale)Welcome to Worldwild! Worldwild is the culmination of a long Pterodactyl adventure, an artrock odyssey through lush pastures of layered vocal harmonies, mountainous rhythms and thick, dark forests of fuzzy, piercing guitars. On Easter Sunday, 2008, in a rustic motel in backwoods Pennsylvania, one day before crossing the border into Canada, Pterodactyl discovered an experience (Worldwild) that they wanted to keep with them and pursue musically. They felt like they were on a family vacation through a colorful new reality, an experience of solitude and connectedness, alone yet one with everyone. When they returned to Brooklyn Joe began recording demos in his bedroom studio that would be the foundation for most of the material on the record, the sounds and textures of which were beautiful and intriguing, but seemed at first to be at odds with what the band had been known for in the past. But Pterodactyl had found a new, triumphant future in Worldwild: a schizophrenic, desperate idealism that shone through the confusion of the dozens of vocal tracks and guitar samples Joe had put down. The record that results, which they recorded with Jeremy Scott over six months in 2008, showcases many different facets of the band and its influences but maintains a narrative coalescence throughout, a story of hours upon hours singing alone into a bedroom computer, of frustration and redemption, of petty but heated personal battles between friends, melodies running rampant through sleepless summer nights, triumphant moments of trust and cooperation, and a faith and optimism in the spirit of adventure. Pterodactyl is Joe and Matt, Zach (Ex Models, Knyfe Hyts, the Seconds), and Jesse (Twin Powers, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth).

Europe '72Nearly 40 years ago, the Grateful Dead released Europe '72, a triple live album documenting its historic trek across Europe that became not only one of the band's best-selling releases, but also set the gold standard for live Dead.
The Grateful Deads first tour outside of North America took them to all sorts of historic and unusual venues in England, Denmark, West Germany, France, Holland and even Luxembourg. Many members of the Dead family came along on what was really an extended working vacation that was designed to both expose the Dead to new audiences and also reward the band for their unlikely conquest of America during the preceding two years. As a hedge against the costs of the nearly two-month trip, the Deads label, Warner Bros., paid for the band to lug around a 16-track recorder to capture the entire tour.
This was a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums: Workingmans Dead, American Beauty and the live Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses). It had been a year since the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been broken in as the groups exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as a member of the touring band. This would also be Pigpen's final tour with the band.
There was a ton of new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of 71 (after Skull & Roses was out) and during the spring of 72, including Tennessee Jed, Jack Straw, Hes Gone, Ramble on Rose, One More Saturday Night and Mr. Charlie. All those future classics were interspersed with songs from the aforementioned hit albums such as Cumberland Blues and Sugar Magnolia, as well as spectacular versions of Truckin and I Know You Rider.LP1

Cayamo Sessions At SeaBetween busy touring schedules and time spent
creating and recording songs, artists rarely get the
opportunity to spend time with other musicians they
admire and respect. Occasionally, they bump into
each other in hotel lobbies, backstage dressing rooms,
or airport terminals; usually no more than a hurried
conversation passes, perhaps a quick meal together,
a wave and a nod then everyone is off to the next gig.
Ships that pass in the night.
For one week each year, this changes. Musicians and
music fans board a cruise ship together, escape the
winter cold, and sail away for a musical adventure
called Cayamo. Once-in-a-lifetime collaborations begin
the minute the ship leaves port. From bow to stern,
port to starboard, on top deck and down below, around
every corner and in every venue you'll find musicians
who might never otherwise have a chance to meet
teaming up to play old favorite tunes or even create
In 2012, Cayamo veteran Buddy Miller decided to try
to capture a few of these special moments. He brought
along some recording gear and set up a studio in the
ship's library where he and co-host Jim Lauderdale
recorded episodes for their SiriusXM Outlaw Country
Buddy & Jim Radio Show. Their debut episode with
Lucinda Williams was recorded there.
Buddy thought the radio show recordings sounded
really good so, in 2014, he brought more gear, an
engineer and some great musicians. Sixthman let him
take over the Bliss Lounge where he set up a temporary
recording studio between the lanes of the bowling
alley. For two days and nights, guest artists came to
record and fans came to watch. It was so much fun,
they did it all again in 2015.
For those fortunate enough to have experienced
Cayamo, these tracks might bring back fond memories.
For those yet to sail, consider these recordings a vacation
postcard from Buddy Miller and his talented friends and
a musical snapshot of their journey through song.

Ape School (Discontinued) (On Sale)Michael Johnson arrived in Philadelphia a swamp-ape from the Florida panhandle to lead music technology studies at a downtown arts university. Instead, he discovered in its hallowed halls the derelict crown-jewel of archaic analog electronics with which he would forge his image of the Ape School. Armed with the Moog Modular synthesizer he helped revive-- just the fourth born and installed by the hands of Robert Moog 40 years earlier in 1965-- Johnson conjures original songs from beyond his prior tenures in Kurt Heasley's Lilys, and Sub Pop's Holopaw, using the Modular to weave lush motorik dreamsound throughout dynamic instrumentation and his distinct croon.
This second one-man-does-all album by Johnson--the first to use the animistic moniker-- marries primitive songs with incorporeal sound: glamatic pop explorations, navigated by studio light, coalesced over time, wine, fallouts, and Rundgren-style self-control.
From the resounding onset of Wail to God, to the song's oscillator outro barely two minutes later, the tonal breadth and sonic fluidity of Ape School is clear. A song like Did What I Did flirts with pop sensibility, but coheres in subtle feedback when repetition would normally devolve it to redundance. Elsewhere, as on My Intention and Deathstomp, Johnson commits to full mechanical shredding and focused romps of analog rock glory awash in system buzz. Other, more spacious moments like That's OK, It's Over, and The Underground reveal the songs' subtle instrumental basis, and bare the accidentally clever, eloquent lyrics of his elastic tenor.
Mixed in Jamaican Brooklyn with Michael Pecchio in a bath of reverb, delay, tape echo, smoke, mirrors, orange juice, and cayenne pepper, Ape School has finally congealed. Upon graduation from Primate U, this album, initially intended for release by co-conspirator Alfred Daedelus Darlington, finds a home at Ninja Tune's Counter Records.
With a band of student human musicians rescued from the confines of musical education, Ape School has opened its doors to limited faculty enrollment. Composed of previous cohorts in Lilys, Holopaw, Human Television, and beyond, the live Ape School incarnation takes one monkey's primordial creations on summer vacation to civilization. Evidently basted nightly.1. Wail To God

Not ArtThe story of Big Scary begins in Melbourne, Australia, where duo Tom Iansek and Jo Syme, armed with just acoustic guitars and egg shakers, started playing songs together in the living room of Syme's parents' house, gradually working up to a bolder, more expansive sound by incorporating electric guitars, drums, synths and piano. What began as a few rainy day acoustic ballads in their first incarnation soon grew, and before long, the newly named Big Scary were writing anything they pleased - fuzzed-out garage rock; piano-led pop; intricate, pastoral instrumentals - each imbued with an effortless pop sensibility and lightness of touch that would quickly see the duo attract a strong following in their home country.
Following a series of early self-released singles and EPs, Big Scary released the intimately crafted debut album Vacation in 2011 via the band's own label Pieater. The album brought the pair widespread acclaim, and earned the duo a large Australian audience with nominations for 'Album Of The Year' from Triple J and 'Breakthrough Artist Of The Year' from AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association), plus a small but growing cult following overseas. 2012 saw Big Scary take its first small steps onto the world stage, earning further underground acclaim via a self-funded North American tour that saw Tom and Jo play SXSW, CMW, and CMJ, impressing whatever audiences happened upon the versatility, lovable magnetism, intelligent songwriting and dynamic live performances that make up the band's riveting shows. On the heels of their adventures abroad, an invigorated Tom and Jo returned home and began recording their second full length album. Grappling with the pressures and perceived responsibilities of their Australian success, the daunting goal of bringing their music to wider audiences, and their own expectations of themselves as writers and creators, the band eventually settled into making an album that would be, paradoxically, hotly anticipated at home while acting simultaneously as a first introduction to almost all audiences elsewhere: Not Art. The Melbourne-based duo has become a household name in Australian indie-pop circles and has a growing cult following overseas.
Barsuk Records is thrilled to be the U.S. home for the band's forthcoming album Not Art, a slow-burning stunner produced and engineered by Iansek and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, The Kills, Arcade Fire, Adele) that distills influences of indie rock song structure, pop and hip-hop production, and experimental ambient music.1.
