UnionUnion is the thirteenth album made by progressive Rock band Yes. This was their last release featuring all members of the new line-up (Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Trevor Rabin, Alan White and Tony Kaye) and the ex-Yes members group (Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Steve Howe), hence the name Union. Incredibly enough during the process of recording the album, all eight members do not play together at once.
The album reached #7 in the UK Album charts and #15 in the US Album charts spawning three singlesLift Me Up, Saving My Heart and I Would Have Waited Forever.
In 1992 the eight man band supported the release with a world tour after which Bruford, Wakeman and Howe left the band for good.1. I Would Have Waited Forever

Paper AirplaneIncredible Performances and Amazing Sonics.
Simply an incredible female vocal and acoustic instrument album!
Alison Krauss' most recent triumph, the certified-platinum Raising Sand, her 2007 collaboration with Robert Plant and producer T-Bone Burnett, notched a total of six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, bringing her unsurpassed total to 26. That mesmerizing modern-day masterpiece sets the stage for another stunner, Paper Airplance, the artist's first album of all-new recordings in partnership with her remarkably skillful and renowned band Union Station since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways.
The players: Jerry Douglas (dobro, lap steel, vocals), Dan Tyminski (guitar, mandolin, lead vocal), Ron Block (banjo, guitar) and Barry Bales (bass, vocals), with Krauss on lead vocal and fiddle, are five distinct personalities who come together to form something truly unique as a band. Each bandmate has his own bustling career, but when these singular musicians come together, they're an airtight unit devoted to the process of playing music together.
Produced by Krauss and Union Station, with studio legend Mike Shipley engineering and mixing, Paper Airplane contains 11 songs of poignancy and austere beauty, chosen with the impeccable taste and intuition that have characterized her entire body of work, delivered by this world-class unit with an immediacy that goes beyond mere virtuosity.1. UnionUnion's release in 1988 announced a bold, incendiary new voice in the singer/songwriter sweepstakes in Toni Childs. The well-traveled Childs, the short-term original lead singer for Berlin, draws upon the vast experiences of her life and delivers them with an urgency that is hypnotically compelling. It's all tied together by David Tickle's production and aided by first-rate backing by musicians including songwriting collaborator David Ricketts, drummer Rick Marotta and guitarist David Rhodes. The single Don't Walk Away kicks things off in high gear and Childs rarely looks back. Her take-no-prisoners vocal drives the funky, horn-driven track, which is backed by the gospel swell of the background vocalists. Although the rest of the album is a little more sedate, Childs never loses the urgent edge to her dusky voice. Stop Your Fussin' is sung to a restless lover over a Caribbean rhythm and Hush has a playful bounce to it. Elsewhere, Zimbabwae is a parable detailing African strife complete with chanting background vocals and Dreamer provides her with a bed of keyboards that shimmer like stars. The twice Grammy-nominated Union received universal critical acclaim and is riveting right through the moody poetry of the final track, Where's the Ocean. Tom Demalon1. Don't Walk Away

The Other IBella Union are thrilled to announce the release of The Other I, the new album from 2:54.
Even before Colette and Hannah Thurlow wrote their new album, the London-based sisters' atmospheric, imaginative and thrilling vein of rock music under the name 2:54 was already a force to be reckoned with. But the events that tested their commitment and resilience have upped the ante, to produce the magnificent drama and beauty of The Other I. From the expansive, tempo-shifting opener 'Orion', and the pining roots of 'The Monaco' to the ambient haunts of 'Tender Shoots' and the shape-shifting tour de force of 'Raptor', the album significantly widens the net beyond the achievements of 2:54's self-titled debut. The Other I is all the stronger for Hannah and Colette's hands-on approach to production while Colette's lead vocals show a striking versatility. The album's emotional terrain has been carved from circumstances out of their control but equally their sisterly bond.
As Colette explains, the album's title was inspired by a favourite poet, Percy Shelley, "a rousing romantic, politically charged, a proto-punk of sorts. He called his friend and muse Elizabeth Hitchener the 'sister of my soul, my second self.' These lines kept returning to me last year and from there I arrived at 'The Other I'. The Other I is an enquiry into the duality of the human experience - the division between the self that pounds on like a juggernaut in your head, and the self you present to the world. The idea extends to Hannah and I, to our sisterhood. We know intrinsically what the other thinks and feels, music is just another language we use to communicate."
Written in Paris and London, the album was recorded at Bella Union's East London studio before the Thurlows and Alex Robins decamped to North London's Fish Factory to complete it alongside co-producer and mixer James Rutledge, who's worked with the likes of Radiohead and Fever Ray. 'In The Mirror' and 'Sleepwalker' are cited as key entry points to the album's core values, while lyrically 'Orion' sets the scene for the album's adventures. 'Raptor' is the album's brilliant finale, with its simmering intro, hypnotic flow, thrilling coda and rallying mantra: "Calling, I'm calling, I'm calling, I can hear it / You don't know us / One more turn and then I'll go / The end, the end, the end is close."1. The Sound Of EverythingBorn out of late-night graveyard experimentation, Seattle's Thousands is comprised of guitarists/vocalists Kristian Garrard and Luke Bergman. The Sound of Everything, the duo's stark and original spin on modern folk music is one of the most gentle and serene recordings you're likely to ever hear. The band's debut album is solely voices, guitars, and an array of environmental sounds such as birds, leaves, wind, intentionally recorded along with the songs and untouched.
Each recorded live in one take, the songs on the album provide a musical snapshot of a moment in time, a picture postcard of the world as it was where and when Garrard and Bergman recorded each of these 11 songs. The two drove tirelessly across the Pacific Northwest searching for recording locations, settling on an abandoned silo, a barn and a riverbank as the perfect natural studios. Originally brought to the attention of Bella Union by Fleet Foxes' Sky Skjelset, Thousands have managed to fit the sound of everything cozily in between two headphones.1. MTSES III

Songs CycledThis album is released on Bella Union 45 years from my debut album "Song Cycle" (when I was but 24). In both cases, there's a maverick on the loose, with a highly personal set of tunes and instrumentals. All of them reveal an iconoclast tilting at windmills, railing at tyrants, barking at masters of war, and celebrating a shameless commitment to the very definition of 'Americana'. As I was in my brunette era, at age 70, I'm found looking through the glass darkly. These new songs show more than a hint of an eco-politic. In fact, there's nothing more precious than the song-form to revolutionize popular thoughts and practices that need a jolt of shock therapy. Yet, songwriters must work with a leger demain. A light hand and heart can draw more approval than a heavy-handed scold. My first aim is to entertain the ear with beautiful sounds. I try to do that as an arranger. These pieces reveal my best effort.
I've drawn from a grab-bag of American roots music, from the 19th Century forward. (It was, after all, 'The American Century'). Yet this song-set goes beyond, and muses about '9/11' and other self-inflicted wounds ('Wall Street'). It explores the American bombing of Baghdad ('Dreaming of Paris'), the chicanery of Big-Oil ('Black Gold'). I insist that the song-form is the most potent political tool available. I learned as much from Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, and yes, Bob Dylan.
Still there's time for folderol. 'Sassafrass' captures all I love about the youth I spent in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. It's a roll in the grass. There's the renegade arranger in that, reflecting my obsession for studio technique, sound- effects with tuneful percussion that I first heard in 1948, in the music of Spike Jones.
I guess I am like that rusty nail that sticks out, just waiting to be hammered down by an intolerant bastard, with no room for what isn't rockin' or classically elite. In truth, I embrace both those worlds. Guilty as charged, I'm wrapped in the flag, looking through the glass, at the world beyond informed yet optimistic, in my dream escape. It hangs together well, as we must, lest we all hang separately.
I have so many contributing visual artists to thank, for coating it all so deliciously.

I'm here to tell you it's definitely a piece of work to get excited about...the entire album is a standout... - Indie Shuffle
"Equally fuelled by dissonance and shivers as by soaring melodies and handclaps, Rookie wrenches alt.rock from its indie daydream and tosses it into a well-informed blend that make the kids look more like the connoisseur than the novice." - Drum Media
"It's his voice and those lyrics that are going to lunge The Trouble With Templeton into "something special" territory." - Album of the Week, Herald Sun
"The deeper you go into this full-length LP, the richer the colour and the detail." **** - Album of the Week, Courier Mail
Bella Union are thrilled to announce the signing of acclaimed Australian quintet The Trouble With Templeton whose debut album is titled Rookie.
Already a huge success in Australia, The Trouble With Templeton is the creation of singer/songwriter Thomas Calder, a 23-year-old wunderkind who formed the band in 2011. The following year saw TTWT expand to a 5-piece, the new members complimenting Calder's emotive vocals and songwriting with a collaborative, self-assured sound.
Adventurous, eccentric and stunningly melodic, Rookie is an album that leaves a distinct musical impression. With their debut release The Trouble With Templeton have crafted a record full of warmth and heart, whilst displaying a willingness to make music that's not afraid to affect or surprise. "The only prerequisite we had going in was that if we loved the song and we believe in it, then we were going to record it," says Thomas. "The element of surprise is something we really enjoy in music, something we're always shooting for. You don't want to know where a song is going from the first two lines."As a result, the album is a whirling dervish of moods and colours, of tempos and genres, melodies and layers, tackling concepts behind relationships and the way unique human narratives emerge from different viewpoints.
Musically, defining Rookie beyond a happily all-encapsulating idea like 'intelligent melodic alt-pop' isn't worth the hassle. It's an album that demands listening to in order to be understood. "It's held together by something undefinable," reckons Thomas. "For me it's a whole kaleidoscope of sounds and genres, but there's something holding it together, and that's us as a band."1. The Best OfDespite great acclaim at the time The Czars remain one of Denver's best-kept secrets. Over the course of their career they couldn't quite turn critical salvos into commercial success. Then, when the band split up in 2004 after their fifth album - the presciently titled Goodbye - nothing was heard from any member for six years. So when John Grant reappeared in 2010 with his landmark solo debut Queen Of Denmark, some thought he was a new artist, without a back-story that stretches as far back as 1994 when the band originally formed.
The Best Of The Czars is made up predominantly from the run of three studio albums that Bella Union released between 2000 and 2004. Before But Longer donates the first four songs, 2002's The Ugly People Vs The Beautiful People the next six, and Goodbye the next five. The final track is an exquisite reading of Tim Buckley's signature standard Song To The Siren taken from 2005's B-sides/covers compilation Sorry I Made You Cry.
Grant is his own fiercest critic, and says of all Czars albums he only stands by Goodbye. It's the only one that came anywhere close to being what I'd hoped for, he reckons. Out of the five albums we made, there's one good solid album of material. Well, John, here it is. But The Best Of The Czars isn't merely good; it's magnificent. At their best, The Czars mastered a luminous and stately country-folk'n'western noir shot through with a classic songwriting twist.
On various tours since his solo debut, Grant has performed three old Czars tracks: Drug (from The Ugly People ), Paint The Moon and Little Pink House (from Goodbye). They're the Czars songs I most connect to in performance, that I'm proudest of, that flowed out of me as complete products, says Grant. As a whole, though, the band remains a conflicted memory for the singer. I had so much fear at the time, I wanted to try and control everything around me, which I feel affected my voice, he admits. Only now do I feel that voice is coming out of its shell, and that I'm comfortable in my own skin. But the music is an important part of my history, so it deserves to be heard.1. Val

The Trials Of Van Occupanther (10th Anniversary Edition) (Awaiting Repress)10th Anniversary Edition On 180-Gram Gold Vinyl
Includes A B2 Pull-Out Poster, Handwritten Lyrics & Previously Unseen Photos
Comes With A Special Bonus 7 With 2 Unreleased Songs
Limited To Only 1000 Copies For North America
This Autumn Midlake will celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Trials of Van Occupanther with a deluxe reissue via Bella Union on 180g gold vinyl, complete with a B2 pull-out poster, handwritten lyrics and previously unseen photos. The cover artwork has been reimagined in a fittingly flushed, hallucinatory painting by neo-impressionist (and pavement-scorching skateboarder) Brian Lotti. The original album will be accompanied by a special bonus 7" featuring two previously unreleased tracks, the plaintive rolling lament of "The Fairest Way" and the revelatory psychedelic swirl of "Festival," two tracks recorded before original vocalist Tim Smith departed the band.
In 2006, Van Occupanther was hailed as an instant classic and over the course of the next year proved to be the band's commercial breakthrough. While their debut, 2004's Bamnan and Slivercork, had drawn acclaim alongside comparisons to Grandaddy and Radiohead, Midlake looked further afield and deeper within for the follow-up. Suffused with a romantic yearning for the simpler life, this was a record pitched between 1871, 1971 and somewhere out of time: between Henry David Thoreau and Neil Young's After the Gold Rush, between 1970s Laurel Canyon thinking and a longing for something more mysterious. Rich reserves of wistful melody, dreamy horns, rolling guitars and plaintive pianos reflect its elusive, idiosyncratic narratives: a couple long to be robbed by bandits so they can start anew, an outcast scientist ponders his pariah status, a woman chases a frisky deer, a river leads who knows where yet leaves you little choice but to follow
Famous admirers included Thom Yorke, Beck, The Flaming Lips, Paul Weller, James Dean Bradfield, St Vincent, actor/skateboarder Jason Lee and The Chemical Brothers, and the album went on to secure high placings in the end-of-year polls. Since then, their influence has perhaps been felt in the breakthrough of many a band or singer at one with the stuff of beards, bucolic yearning and blissful West Coast harmonies, from Fleet Foxes to Band of Horses, The Low Anthem, Jonathan Wilson, Matthew E White and beyond.
Not that Midlake stood still to lap up the praise: a band acutely attuned to nature's shifts, they embraced change. In 2010 they ventured into darker psych-folk thickets for The Courage of Others and backed John Grant on his celebrated breakthrough album, Queen of Denmark. When Tim Smith subsequently departed, guitarist/singer Eric Pulido stepped up to the lead vocal role for 2013's freshly exploratory Antiphon. Since then, Pulido and various Midlake members have embarked on a new musical project with a cast of all-stars including members of Grandaddy, Franz Ferdinand, Band of Horses and Travis, for an album due for release next year. All of this serves to remind us what fertile seeds were sown with The Trials of Van Occupanther: a modern classic, made of vintage craft and timeless magic.1. Roscoe

How To Die In The NorthLost treasure needn't be found in the distant past; the 21st century hides many artists who disappeared into the great wide yonder. BC Camplight is one such example. The alter-ego of American songwriter Brian Christinzio released albums in 2005 and 2007, both gems of a certain psych-pop vintage, combining eloquent songwriting with a self-destructive bent. Christinzio certainly knew it - he's described himself as, "the guy who blew it."
But this sublime talent with the keening vocal and fearless approach to lyrical introspection has another chance. His new album 'How To Die In The North', recorded in his newly adopted home of Manchester, England, is a fantastically rich, stylistically diverse trip. From dramatic, layered pop to a haunted take on Sixties sunshine-pop, from blue-eyed soul to speedy surf-pop, from sparser piano balladry to psychedelic showstoppers and a grand finale that's part Nilsson and part Broadway showtune.
Originally from New Jersey, Christinzio started playing piano aged just four, inspired by his mum's Jerry Lee Lewis and Nilsson records and his Dad's classical collection. Depression and crippling hypochondria clashed with captaining the football team and a penchant for boxing. Post-school, he fell in with people, "willing to go through shit to be a musician," which saw him relocate to Philadelphia where he occasionally played live with Philly faves The War On Drugs and guested on Sharon Van Etten's album 'Epic'.
He's already done two sessions for long-term fan Marc Riley at BBC 6 Music, which featured Christinzio's band of Mancunians who he met at The Castle Hotel pub, a watering hole in the city centre particularly popular with musicians. Christinzio also heard John Grant's album on the jukebox there, which encouraged him to approach Bella Union. Grant's cocktail of depression and self-sabotage thwarted an outrageous talent, but he took his second chance. The same deserves to happen to Christinzio, a similarly outsize, sharp and funny personality with a non-conformist streak. Far from dying, BC Camplight has been reborn in the North!1. MoonBorn from love, musical empathy, a baby grand piano discovered on Gumtree and an expired visa, Snowbird duo Stephanie Dosen and Simon Raymonde have crafted an album of exquisite melody and mood that radiates the uncanny mystery of the object it's named after: moon.
Released on Bella Union, the label that Raymonde has run and curated since his former band Cocteau Twins went their individual ways in 1997, moon comprises 11 songs composed between two continents; Raymonde was in London while Dosen was in North Carolina after being based in the capital following her 2007 debut A Lily For The Spectre. Snowbird's album was subsequently crafted via the wonder of technology, and yet moon has one unifying and intimate sound and vision, from gently pulsating, pop-centric trails ("I Heard The Owl Call My Name", "Bears On My Trail") and lingering, luminous ballads ("All Wishes Are Ghosts", "Come To The Woods") to the musical equivalent of floating downstream, bathed
in silvery light ("Charming Birds From Trees", "In Lovely").
The eagle-eyed out there will notice the predominance of flora and fauna on moon, starting with the name Snowbird. There's more on "Where Foxes Hide", "We Carry White Mice" and "Heart Of The Woods". But there is one human subject in"Amelia", and others came out to play too, a suitably transatlantic roster of friends: Radiohead drummer Philip Selway and guitarist Ed O'Brien, Midlake guitarist Eric Pulido and drummer McKenzie Smith and two more gifted guitarists in Paul Gregory(Lanterns On The Lake) and Jonathan Wilson.
If the 11 tracks weren't enough there is a 2nd half of the record!. An album of remixes (one for each 11 tracks) by Michigan's electronic music genius by the name of RxGibbs, who expands, annotates and shines a whole new light on the wonder of Snowbird, adding and subtracting beats, creating otherworldly ambient passages, and building the other half of a distinctly beautiful and passionate whole that gives a whole new meaning to the term"moonstruck" The album cover (above) is by Vaughan Oliver, famed graphic designer known for his distinctive work for 4AD, including many album covers for Cocteau Twins.LP1

The Devil And I (On Sale)Lone Wolf and much of the field recordings that would become The Devil and I took shape in 2009 in various dusty rooms and tape studios around Sweden. Songs and ideas slowly coming together through the eyes of singer and guitarist Paul Marshall and the ears of engineer Kristofer Jonson from Jeniferever who recorded the album. After a month of various recordings, sneaking into concert halls late at night to use the piano, setting up their gear in small village churches, and any other place they could find, the basic album tracks were done. With his transition from Paul Marshall to the artist known as Lone Wolf, the songwriter weaves tapestries of lyrical lust, vengeance and Poe-esque murder together with equally lush instrumentation, further fleshing out his originally bare compositions with sweeping horns, strings and dramatic musical fanfare.1. No GhostAfter headline runs and bouts touring with critical darlings like Bowerbirds, Phosphorescent and Akron/Family, in the summer of 2009 Canadian quintet the Acorn retreated from two years on the road to an isolated cottage in northern Quebec to begin work on their third full-length album, No Ghost. Songs took shape at all hours, crafted from hazy late-night improvisations, early morning melodies pulled from the thinning threads of sleep. Modernity clashed with the bucolic via exploratory percussion, feedback, acoustic textures and the natural surrounding sounds. The band then traded trees for telephone poles to finish recording in a sweltering heat wave in Montreal. There, the breezy ease of rural surrounds was buried under sweat-caked skin and cracked asphalt, birdsong drowned out by thick air and engine hum. No Ghost is a recording swaddled in dichotomy: togetherness and isolation, acoustic and electric, destruction and restoration.1. Cobbled From Dust

Gentle Spirit (Awaiting Repress)Jonathan Wilsons music is steeped equally in the woodsy contours of his Blue Ridge origins and the atmospheric guitar reveries of Neil Young and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Gentle Spirit, an expansive double set conceived specifically for vinyl, was recorded to analog tape and is remarkably evocative of that golden late 60s, early 70s period when rural and urban sensibilities colluded to produce some of rocks most imperishable recordings.
Gentle Spirit was recorded at his former studio in Laurel Canyon, the location of the very scene Wilson is credited with revitalizing through his personal studio and well-known jam sessions. In addition to making his own music, Wilson is also a producer, engineer and custom guitar-maker.
Whether hes producing young artists like the band Dawes or collaborating with renowned artists like Erykah Badu, Jackson Browne, Robbie Robertson or Elvis Costello, Wilson is as dedicated, visionary and soulful as anyone in music today, qualities that can be heard in the many textures, layers and easy born nuances prevalent throughout Gentle Spirit.1. Mt. RoyalTo describe Mt. Royal's music it is easiest to explain that their contrasting elements work together for the sake of a common purpose. Their aesthetics and melodies appear to have a friendly pop leaning tailor-made for a broad audience, with a consistent undercurrent of attitude from the rhythm section and Ford's emotive, powerful delivery and sweeping, surging arrangements that provide some unexpected twists while retaining the clear focus of each song. The end result reconciles the most fundamental elements of intoxicating, heart-driven music. Mt. Royal has the charged ambition and scope of vintage psychedelia whilst always utilising the eclectic sonic palette of the modern world.1. Missing Reward

WeatherhouseFour years after the unexpected and exquisite treat that was Philip Selway's debut album Familial, the man formerly known only as the drummer of Radiohead returns with his sophomore record, Weatherhouse. At ten tracks and 38 minutes, the album is as concise in shape as it is expansive in mood and assured in execution, mining a generally darker, fuller sound than its gentler, more acoustic-based predecessor and reflecting the band-centred nature of its construction and its creator's growth in confidence.
Weatherhouse was made in collaboration with Adem Ilhan and Quinta; artists in their own right who had previously performed in Philip's backing band. "From the outset," Selway recalls, "we wanted the album to be the three of us, and we covered a lot of instruments between us. With a studio full of inspiring gear and a great-sounding desk, we felt like a band. Different musicians stretch you, and I felt stretched on Weatherhouse, but very enjoyably so." Working mostly out of Radiohead's studio in Oxfordshire, Adem also produced and engineered Weatherhouse, while Quinta played an equally integral role in the arrangements. The album was mixed by David Wrench.
Album opener 'Coming Up For Air' sets the scene with its brooding, spectral mood, mantra-like pattern and Selway's simmering, reverb-drenched vocal exploring the album's dominant theme. "It's very much about taking stock of my life. I wanted to convey a sense of release and affirmation," he says. "This was the first song that we recorded. Immediately it felt in a very different space from Familial."
The album's talismanic qualities explore a world of hope and plans, connection and disconnection - between family, friends and self - and dreams and fears: "I love records that you can almost live in, where the songs become talismans that you take to heart. That's what I was trying to create in Weatherhouse." With its emotional frankness, haunting melodies and gripping tension, Selway has made a great artistic leap and created something that even the most experienced singer-songwriters would be proud of.1. Who Am EyeClarity is coming. Once rumoured to be a guise of the elusive Jai Paul, producer Clarence Clarity re-emerges from the shadows with 'Who Am Eye' EP, a full year after he announced that he'd finished recording it. Patience is a virtue, though, and lead track 'Those Who Can't, Cheat' is a marvel - a skewed pop oddity full of Prince-style hooks and the occasional Bhangra breakdown. Up until now Clarence Clarity was an anonymous artist from London who sounds like Michael Jackson in a psychotic state. This is the way that Jackson's zombie character in 'Thriller' would have sounded like if he had his own career.1. Those Who Can't, Cheat
