The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys (On Sale)40th Anniversary!
Mastered from the Original Island Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray
Traffic was one of the premier architects of the acid rock movement in the '60s and blossomed further into one of the most important super groups of the '70s. Their recordings are the soundtrack to a generation of music enthusiasts that continues to this day and will forever stand the test of time.
In 1972, the legendary founding members Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood sojourned on after a smash outing with John Barleycorn Must Die and continued the winning streak with the groundbreaking classic The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Along with new members Jim Gordon (Derek & The Dominoes), Rick Gretch (Blind Faith) and Rebop Kwaku Baah, Traffic was back and on a roll artistically unlike many other important acts of the classic rock era.
Known for more than its amazingly cube shaped album cover, the multi-faceted music inside was a non-stop enjoyment of sounds never heard or recorded since. Whether standout tracks from the pens of Jim Capaldi like the hard rocking Light Up Or Leave Me Alone or the powerful balladry of ancient sounds with the Winwood/Capaldi classic Rainmaker, this brilliant album will most certainly be known forever for its classic title track, the massive twelve minute plus epic, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Filled with explosive sax breaks by the late Chris Wood, the piano driven and vocal delivery of master musician legend Stevie Winwood and the percussive vibrations of the late great Jim Capaldi, Jim Gordon and the late Rebop Kwaku Baah, the song was destined to become a huge success.

Heaven Is In Your MindTraffic was one of the most original and influential British groups of the 1960s, gathering a diverse set of individual talents in vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood, singer/guitarist Dave Mason, drummer Jim Capaldi and reeds player Chris Wood. The foursomes expansive talents and formidable creative chemistry allowed the musicians to integrate an array of folk, jazz, pop and R&B elements, infusing their eclectic stylistic mix with a playfully psychedelic spirit that perfectly captured the experimental sensibility of the times.
Traffics historic 1967 debut LP (produced by noted studio vet Jimmy Miller) was released in the U.K. as Mr. Fantasy, but initially reached U.S. shores in altered form as Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy. The American edition featured an altered track listing and new cover art with Winwood, Capaldi and Wood but not Mason, who had quit the band prior to the albums release.
The U.S. LP added the British singles Paper Sun, Hole in My Shoe and Smiling Phases to the albums running order, along with a short snippet of the U.K. single Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush as a recurring motif between tracks. The American edition also tacked on the short closing track Were a Fade, You Missed This, which is actually the fadeout of an alternate version of Paper Sun. The American LPs title was quickly amended to Mr. Fantasy, and it was under that name that most stateside fans came to know the album, with the original U.S. edition becoming something of a rarity.
In any form, and under any title, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy ranks as one of the most audacious and inventive rock albums of its time. Such catchy tunes as Paper Sun, Hole in My Shoe and Heaven Is in Your Mind combine stylistic adventurousness with effortless melodic appeal, while more introspective numbers like Dear Mr. Fantasy and Coloured Rain capture early stirrings of prog-rock and jazz-fusion.
Sundazeds new vinyl edition of this seminal vintage disc completely restores the albums rare original U.S. cover art. The LP also features the albums incredibly rare mono mix, which differs substantially from the albums more familiar stereo mix. Pressed on pristine high-definition vinyl, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy now looks and sounds better than ever.1. Paper Sun

Phoebe Snow (Awaiting Repress)Its not very often to witness the importance of a new artist when their debut album gets released. From time to time, these initial works will become as legendary as their lifetime careers are. The great Phoebe Snow and her self-titled debut album is undoubtedly an example of this rare phenomenon. Filled with nine extraordinary songs, seven of those written by a then 23-year-old Snow, including the smash hit single Poetry Man, truly became the catalyst for a legendary career.
All of the radio formats fell in love with Snow and her new album. Additional album tracks like the hipster uptown blues number Harpo Blues, which features the jazz great Teddy Wilson on piano, and the equally solid and soulful I Dont Want The Night To End helped cement the album as a unequivocal classic.
From this debut release, Snow also proved that she was a fine collaborator as heard on tracks like No Show Tonight with Traffics Dave Mason, Either Or Both with David Bromberg, and It Must Be Sunday with jazz superstars Bob James and Zoot Sims. These collaborative efforts paid off as she soon became the toast of the industry with a bevy of invitations to perform duets and guest vocals with the likes of Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Dave Grusin, Linda Rondstat, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald and many others.
Friday Music now presents the great debut album by Phoebe Snow on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl. Mastered impeccably from the original Shelter/EMI tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray, this amazing album is fully realized in the audiophile domain. Can (Inner Space)Import
1979's, Can (aka Inner Space), the band's last proper album, was less experimental than its previous releases, with Michael Karoli doing more straightforward vocals and guitar. Having spent the previous decade taking elements of the classical avant-garde (i.e. Karlheinz Stockhausen) and underground rock (i.e Velvet Underground) to create a kind of genre-less new musicand influencing countless bands in the processCan had reached the natural end of its journey. Although founding members Irmin Schmidt (keyboards) and Jaki Liebezeit (drums) can still be heard, Rebop Kwaku Baah and Rosko Gee of Traffic fame have been added to the mix, with former bassist Holger Czukay doing the editing.

Still ClimbingLeslie West is set to releases his album Still Climbing in 2013 via Provogue Records / Mascot Label Group.
Originality, excitement, honesty and survival are all part of what makes a legend, and those qualities ripple through every song on the album. It's a testimonial to the strength and durability of West's artistry. Born October 22, 1945, as he approaches his 68th birthday, West has packed some of the most soulful and searing vocal performances of his half-century career into these 11 tracks. His guitar has never sounded more massive or riff-orientated.
What's different on Still Climbing is that I wanted my guitars to sound as big as I look. So I used four of my Dean Signature model guitars with my Mountain of Tone humbucking pickups. I plugged them into my Blackstar amps - no pedals - and turned them up loud and raw, and what you hear is exactly what I did in the studio. These Blackstar amps deliver everything I need without 'confidence' pedals. I played one of the early tracks we recorded for Slash, and he said, 'That is as heavy as it gets.'
Still Climbing is co-produced by West and Mike Metal Goldberg, who engineered all of the sessions. Songs like Dyin' Since The Day I Was Born, Hatfield or McCoy, and Busted, Disgusted or Dead establish a new litmus test for heavy.
The latter features West and Johnny Winter on duelling slide guitars. West also gave up smoking cigarettes and pot after a bout with bladder cancer, so it's no wonder many of Still Climbing's numbers explore the theme of survival and, ultimately, triumph. To that end, West avows, Not only am I lucky to be here, but because I stopped smoking my voice is now stronger than it's ever been - as strong as my guitar playing.
His inclusion of Feeling Good, a song by British actor-musician Anthony Newley that was made famous by Steve Winwood's group Traffic, is a testimonial to all of that. Its lyrics celebrate a new dawn for me as West and his long-time buddy Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) trade vocal lines.
West has always been an outstanding vocalist, earning comparisons to soul legends like Otis Redding since his 1969 debut Mountain, which gave his historic band its name. On Still Climbing West revisits the catalogue of another classic soul man, Percy Sledge, with the enduring When a Man Loves a Woman. He's joined by now 32 year-old soul man Jonny Lang, who he met 15 years ago when Lang was a rising guitar prodigy. West says they cut the tune side-by-side in the studio, their soaring guitars and voices twining to bring fresh blood and a blues-soaked arrangement to the song.
When a Man Loves a Woman, Never Let Me Go and Fade Into You explore a romantic theme. In 2009 West married his wife Jenni, who co-wrote many of Still Climbing's songs with the guitar giant.
Balls, guts, heart - more words that are part of West's legend and describe the roaring crescendos and deep emotional roots of Still Climbing - and West himself. You know, when it comes to talent, we don't all move at the same rate of speed, West muses. Some people start at the top of their game and after 10 or 20 years you wonder what the hell happened to them. I like to joke that the older I get the better I used to be, but after giving up drugs and smoking, my voice can hit notes that I never could reach before. I'm thankful for that.1. Out Of ReachOriginally released in 1978, Out of Reach was one of Can's last albums before their official disbandment in 1979. Here original bass player Holger Czukay is replaced by a much more funky Rosko Gee (of Traffic Fame)who plays a prominent role in shaping the sound of this album, writing and singing on a number of the album's trackswhile drumming duties are shared between Jaki Liebezeit and Reebop Kwaku Baah (also from Traffic), making this one of Can's more groove-heavy releases.1. Produced by Beck
Coming off a triumphant year of Pavement reunion shows, Stephen Malkmus has returned to the studio with Beck producing to record his fifth solo album, Mirror Traffic. Early press reactions are already calling this gorgeous, crystalline production the album weve been waiting 10 years for him to make, and it certainly contains the most heartfelt and indelible songs hes written in years. Gone are the long guitar workouts and jams that marked the last couple of Jicks albums, replaced by incredibly
catchy and endearing pop songs.
Recorded in Becks studio over a period of two years, the 15-track album ranges from hard-rocking political commentary (Senator), to touching, winsome folk (No One Is), to astonishingly virtuosic but melancholy and contrite kiwi pop (Stick Figures In Love). The sonics are stunningly clear and impactful, while the lyrics are as inventive as ever but more meaningful than they have been since Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.1. Tigers

Blood // Sugar // Secs // TrafficHey, what's this? Well that, my friend, is the newest album from The
Gotobeds, entitled Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic. It's their second
full-length LP and their first for Sub Pop. Whoa, whoa, please slow down.
I'm already completely lost. What you just said sounded like a stream of
complete gibberish. Okay, I'll lay it out for you and if you have any
questions could you yell them at me? SOUNDS GOOD. The Gotobeds
formed vaguely around 2009 in Pittsburgh and play a mutant strain of rock
music that is often filed under punk, indie rock, or 99-cent discount bin.
WAIT, THE GOTOBEDS? I HEARD THEY WERE KNUCKLEHEADS! Only if
the knuckle is the part of the human body that contains the brains. Much
like their previous releases on underground stalwart labels like Mind Cure
and 12XU, this new album artfully slips intelligence and experimentation
into a dying art form. It's a harder feat than you'd think.
And sure, their live shows have often been compared to an all night party
where I feared for my life and the lives of everybody in the five block
radius, and their recorded output is akin to the sonic manifestos of four
men deprived of human love and raised on beer and Swell Maps, Mission
of Burma, and old Fall records. But what you get with The Gotobeds,
delivered in spades on this album, is smart, noisy rock with just the right
amount of stupid.
FAIR ENOUGH. SO HOW'D THIS GET MADE? It was recorded in bursts
over several months of 2015 in their friend My War Matt's basement in
Pittsburgh. Unlike previously, the songs were conceived and recorded in
blocks, which resulted in a more experimental feel. But this is no chin
stroking curate's egg. You like loud, double guitar leads? OF COURSE I DO.
WHO DOESN'T? You're in luck, because this album is carpeted with em,
thanks to Eli Kasan and TFP. On a song like 'Bodies,' it sounds as if
you've walked into the biggest Guitar Center, but, you know, not terrible.
Keeping it all locked down is the rhythm section of drummer, Cary Belback
and bassist, Gavin Jensen. They allow the downright prettiness of a song
like Red Alphabet to shine, and the lyrics on the anti-sexism thrash of
Crisis Time to punch through.
THIS ALL SOUNDS WONDERFUL, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED
TO CARE ABOUT? Eh, probably not. Except that Tim Midyett (Silkworm,
Bottomless Pit, Mint Mile) and some bum (Protomartyr) are featured as
guest vocalists on Rope and Why'd You, respectively. Also, I'd be remiss
to not mention the fact that the band's live show is a testament to the
cathartic nature of speed, skill, repetition, noise, and red stage lights. If
you don't believe me, ask the bands they have played with, like Total
Control, Tyvek, or The Replacements. Also, they rep Pittsburgh harder than
anyone possibly could and come off better for it...which is saying
I THINK I UNDERSTAND. BLOOD // SUGAR // SECS // TRAFFIC IS THE
GREATEST ALBUM SINCE THE LAST GOTOBEDS RECORD? Yes. Now

Territory (On Sale)Territory is the follow up to the Charlottetown band's Polaris Prize nominated and internationally acclaimed sophomore album, Little Jabs. Once again produced by Joel Plaskett, Territory builds on the promise of Little Jabs as the band continues to write and record sunny pop gems for the heart and head. The album also finds Two Hours Traffic discovering the shadows at the side of the road. Right from the get go this becomes apparent as the gold into lead alchemy of the rousing opener Noisemaker kicks in and by the time the title track tells its tale of disillusionment and betrayal you know you are settling in for a drive to the darker side. Indeed, songs such as Weightless One, Drop Alcohol, Wicked Side, and Lost Boys all explore the approaching dusk but just like the more hopeful tracks on the album (Happiness Burns, Sing A Little Hymn) they all lock into the close your eyes, sing along choruses and instantly memorable lyrics that have put Two Hours Traffic on the melodic map.
Initially conceived as a two-piece, lead singer Liam Corcoran and guitarist Alec O'Hanley recruited bassist Andrew MacDonald and drummer Derek Ellis while attending university in their hometown of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. After releasing their April Storm EP in 2003 a friendship was struck up with Halifax hero Joel Plaskett who offered to produce the band's first proper album. They've been working together ever since. While their eponymous debut and their follow up Isolator EP were received warmly by critics, it wasn't until 2007's breakthrough Little Jabs that the world really took notice. Appearing on dozens of year-end best of lists, Little Jabs also garnered an ECMA for Best Pop Recording and was a finalist for the coveted Polaris Music Prize.1. Noisemaker

I Wish My Brother George Were HereIn the early 90s hip hop took a turn and gangsta-style rap dominated, making waves off
the West Coast that rattled throughout the world. The East Coast's dominance was
descending despite the success and positivity of Native Tongues acts like De La Soul
and A Tribe Called Quest, who favored thought-provoking humor and cleverness over
gangsta rap's grittiness and grim outlook. It was in this landscape that Oakland, CA's
Del The Funky Homosapien emerged in 1991, with his debut release
I Wish My Brother George Was Here.
Cribbing equally from the East Coast's irreverence and wit, and the West Coast's
P-Funk inspired production, (the album was produced by Del's cousin Ice Cube) Del's
debut has rightly been heralded as a benchmark album for underground hip hop. I Wish My Brother George Was Here not only produced the underground classics Dr. Bombay and Mistadobalina (#9 on the 1992 Hot Rap Tracks Charts), but also set the scene for the success of the other less gangsta West Coast
artists like The Pharcyde, Digable Planets, and of course Del's compatriots in Souls of Mischief.
Above all else, Del is credited with injecting some much needed light-heartedness at a moment when it was truly needed.
Since his debut Del has gone on to work alongside Gorillaz, Wu-Tang Clan, El-P, Handsome Boy Modeling School, and
as a member of the acclaimed hip-hop supergroup Deltron 3030, and even with Dinosaur Jr.
Traffic Entertainment now presents I Wish My Brother George Was Here as a special double LP reissue, featuring the

In God We TrustWith Grand Puba's departure shortly after the issue of the group's debut full-length, Brand Nubian as a trio
was no more. Grand Puba went on as a solo artist while Lord Jamar and Sadat X (formerly Derek) kept the
Brand Nubian name and released the amazing follow up In God We Trust. The album quickly silenced anyone
who had any doubt that they would be able to follow up their debut classic with another classic as they did just
"Allah U Akbar starts things off and was a clear sign that they were back in business in a very real way. Songs
like "Pass the Gat" and "Steady Bootlegging" show the no nonsense style that had come to be expected from
the Nubians, while "Love Me or Leave Me Alone" surprised all with how perfectly they blended the subject
matter of woman and relationships, without it being corny. "Black Star Line", "The Travel Jam" and "Ain't No
Mystery" all round out the album and are a perfect mix of cutting edge production and the five percent subject matter the group is known to espouse.
The albums classic single, the Diamond D produced "Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down" was the cut that truly
lit a fire under hip hop's collective rear-end. The album version of the song went hard but the remix utilized in
the music video-confirmed that THIS Brand Nubian were here to stay.LP1
