    Join The Dots

They're back! It's only a little bit more than a year since London's
TOY graced us with their s/t record. Now they Join The Dots with
11 new tracks. TOY have quickly established a sound that is as
modernistic as it is faithful to the spirit of psychedelia of decades
past, marrying sophisticated chord progressions with a cornucopia
of effects, enigmatic lyricism and driving Motorik rhythms.

As with their debut, Join The Dots was recorded mostly live with
Dan Carey at the helm, although increased studio time has enabled
the band to experiment more with Carey's laboratory of effects and
pre-amps, and embellish the tracks with overdubs. The album is
both a companion to and extension of the electric blueprint plotted
out on Toy, filled as it is with increasingly unpredictable, illuminating
sonic ideas and songs that shift and transform with seemingly
    effortless intricacy

The band admit to enjoying playing late at night to people in
altered states, and in turn the tracks are frequently altered: instrumental sections in particular are structured freely, enabling the band
to exploit the bleed and feedback of each venue to produce
endless variations of the same songs.

TOY are: Tom Dougall (vocals, guitar), Dominic O'Dair (guitars),
Panda (bass, vocals), Alejandra Diez (synths) and Charlie Salvidge
    (drums)

    Toy

Includes Lead Singer Sabrina Ellis'Handwritten Lyrics + A Photo Of The Band

Toy, the fourth LP from A Giant Dog and their second for Merge, shows the Austin quintet at the height of their powers. A solid year of road-dogging and wood shedding has made the band tighter than ever, the charging dynamo of Andrew Cashen and Andy Bauer's guitars in lockstep with the primal chug of the rhythm section of Graham Low on bass and Daniel Blanchard on drums,in the latter's recorded debut. Lead singer Sabrina Ellis turns in another masterful performance, in equal parts brash, defiant, vulnerable, and raw.

Lyrically, Sabrina and Andrew have a gift for making their personal frustrations and fuck-ups, fears, lusts, and addictions feel universal. While they have always given voice to the weirdos and creeps-showing that their peccadilloes and peculiarities are much more deep-seated and widespread-they dig even deeper on Toy. I feel I've revealed more in this album than ever before, Sabrina confesses. Still, the band doesn't sacrifice an ounce of catchiness or charm when tackling issues like aging, agency, and mortality. For proof, just look at Photograph (not the Nickelback song), the sweetest love song about physical longing and enduring devotion to one's lover, even as their body succumbs to the ravages of time. Influences from Thin Lizzy to Tinariwen reveal themselves on the horn-heavy Toy Gun, within the string laden core of Fake Plastic Trees (not the Radiohead song), and during the explosive conclusion to Angst in My Pants (yes, the Sparks song). The hunger is real on Toy; it's not hard to believe Sabrina and Andrew when they proclaim, I'm not a lover / I am a fight on Bendover.

A Giant Dog recorded Toy with Grammy-winning engineer Stuart Sikes(Loretta Lynn, Cat Power, The White Stripes, Reigning Sound), and singer/songwriter/guitarist/wildman Cashen produced it. Andrew as producer makes a lot of sense, Sabrina says. He composes the songs and knows better than anyone what they should sound like in the end. With him at the helm, we've arrived at a raw, truthful, risky, and rangy album.

    Joy Of A Toy

As the SOFT MACHINE's first bassist and original principal songwriter, Kevin Ayers was an overlooked force behind the group's groundbreaking recordings in 1967 and 1968. Joy Of A Toy is his debut solo album, its whimsical and unique vision is a clear indication of how Soft Machine might have progressed under Ayers' tenure. On the LP he is accompanied by his Soft Machine colleagues Robert Wyatt, Mike Ratledge and Hugh Hopper.

After a Soft Machine tour of the USA with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Ayers had decided to retire from the music business. Hendrix however, presented Ayers with an acoustic Gibson J-200 guitar on the promise that he continue his songwriting. Ayers repaired to a small London flat where he composed and arranged Joy Of A Toy features many of Ayers' most enduring songs from The Lady Rachel to Girl on a Swing.

It was on this album that Ayers developed his sonorous vocal delivery, an avant-garde song construction and an affection for bizarre instrumentation that would have a deep influence far into the 1970s and indeed the present day.

Recorded during the band's stay with legendary Detroit-based label, Westbound Records, the track-listing is a Funkadelic fan's delight. Four finished songs and five jams or instrumental tracks. None of these recordings are necessarily in finished form, nonetheless, despite their raw state, as historical artifacts they are nothing less than fascinating. Detailed sleeve notes by Funkadelic expert Rob Bowman, who comments that 'the songs and the jams on this compilation provide a window into the creative energies of early 70s Funkadelic'.

    Melted Toys

Melted Toys self-titled debut is released via Underwater Peoples. Culminating
three years after their acclaimed Washed & Dried EP rst unveiled the group's distinct blend of
hazy, plaintive pop and psychedelic electronica, the full-length reigns in squarely as the
group's most denitive vision yet. It comes on as a sort of sanctuary-in-transit, inspired both
by the shifting visions of dreams and global travel, so that each of the twelve passages icker
    and ame with equal impression.

Melted Toys is Stephen Harkins, Daniel Rosado, Brian Wakeeld, and Ole Haarstad. Their
casual bond laces the languid pop with an unpretentious melodic language. It's both downcast
and serene, resembling the catalog of mid-career FELT, where Maurice Deebank's somber leads
colored each and every detail, rather than just issuing showy statements at predictable intervals. Highlights along the album spark from timely synthesizer voicings as well, mixed in
fantastic contrast against the shadowy mid tones of Wakeeld's bass and Haarstad's metronomic, motorik drumming style.

The three-year wait for this debut irked followers and friend's close to the band, but it was
caused by one of the members leaving a laptop containing all the initial work on a San
Francisco BART train. So it goes, and Melted Toys seems to have used the guaw to their
advantage, as the band re-located to Los Angeles, and singer-guitarist Harkins ended up traveling to Beijing, Tokyo, and Taipei, where he wrote an additional half of the material.

Bummed Out signals the albums opening tone with a wiry lead from Rosado, a kind of
circuit-bent guitar hook that practically nishes Harkins' nodding out sentences. Further along
the rst side A Postcard unfurls the most somber portrait of the LP, but forgoes lulling in
self-importance by trodding against a snare heavy loop, and sneering delivery.

Tellingly, the lyrics to Horizon seem to underscore the album's themes of psychoactive and
physical escape: Here I'm standing right on the cusp / of what could be my life / when we're
strapped under pressure / we could go inside our minds, wherein Harkins ends the verse with
the line, There's a chance for us / LAX back to Beijing. There, Harkins consolidates Melted
Toys' psychedelia with wanderlust, and what's more, the album seems most apt for both these
extremes: music for headphones en route to self-discovery, or music for mental escape indoors,
where's there's nothing more to discover but music.

    Toys In The Attic

Ranked 228/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Remastered From The Original Source Tapes!

Contains the classics Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, & Toys In The Attic

After nearly getting off the ground with Get Your Wings, Aerosmith finally perfected their mix of Stonesy raunch and Zeppelin-esque riffing with their third album, Toys in the Attic. The success of the album derives from a combination of an increased sense of songwriting skills and purpose. Not only does Joe Perry turn out indelible riffs like Walk This Way, Toys in the Attic, and Sweet Emotion, but Steven Tyler has fully embraced sleaziness as his artistic muse. Taking his cue from the old dirty blues Big Ten Inch Record, Tyler writes with a gleeful impishness about sex throughout Toys in the Attic, whether it's the teenage heavy petting of Walk This Way, the promiscuous Sweet Emotion, or the double-entendres of Uncle Salty and Adam's Apple. The rest of Aerosmith, led by Perry's dirty, exaggerated riffing, provide an appropriately greasy backing. Before Toys in the Attic, no other hard rock band sounded like this. Sure, Aerosmith cribbed heavily from the records of the Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, and Led Zeppelin, but they didn't have any of the menace of their influences, nor any of their mystique. Aerosmith was a gritty, street-wise hard rock band who played their blues as blooze and were in it for a good time; Toys in the Attic crystallizes that attitude.

    In This Mess

Jack Dalrymple has cultivated a near legendary status with his involvement in One Man Army, Swingin Utters, Dead To Me, and The Revolts. Of course, few musicians in punk rock possess a calling card like Jack's velvety vocals, but his song writing and guitar work are just as renowned. All three talents are on full display in Jack's ultra-stylized fuzz-punk and garage sound, which even incorporates elements of surf, '60s soul, and power-pop.

The Shiny Toy Guns (STG) are a four piece alternative, electronic, dance and punk-rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 2003. Born in the indie/electro scenes of the early 2000s, STG released their first album, We Are Pilots, in 2006 via Universla Motown Republic with acclaimed success, selling over 300K plus albums and garnering a Grammy nomination on the strength of the three mainstream alt-rock singles, Le Disko, You Are The One, and Rainy Monday.

Although the band enjoyed the above success and notoriety from their first album campaign, internationaly, the band developed communication breakdowns between the primary songwriters (Jeremy and Chad) and their female singer, Carah Faye. Frustrations grew and during the recording and writing process of STG's second album, Carah and the band dramatically parted ways.

The band then enlisted Sisely Treasure to take Carah's place for Season of Poison. The abum's first single Ricochet! climbed to #17 on the ALT chart. In 2009, the band released the Pete Schilling cover Major Tom, which was a single from the band's remix album, Girls Le Disko, and was featured in a 2010 Lincoln MKZ commercial.

STG's new album III marks the return of Carah Faye as their lead singer and the return to their pioneering synth-pop and DIY ethic, with a collection of exuberant, intensely personal songs about life, love, loss and redemption. Highlights include Waiting Alone, Somewhere To Hide, Speaking Japanese and the Fleetwood Mac inspired Fading Listening. Gatefold double 180g vinyl from Five Seven Music.

    Living In The Shadows

4LP Casebound Book-Back Set, Comprising Jansch's Three Studio Albums From The 1990s (The Ornament Tree; When The Circus Comes To Town; Toy Balloon)

Includes An Additional Disc Of Unheard And Unreleased Material

Both Studio Albums And Dat Transfers, Remastered By Brian Pyle

Signifying a return to form that heralded one of the most prolific periods of his life, this special collection features some of Jansch's finest work. Living In the Shadows includes an extra disc of demos, alternate versions and never-before heard tracks, transferred from Jansch's personal tapes, alongside the three studio albums of the 1990s: The Ornament Tree, When The Circus Comes To Town and Toy Balloon.

This trio of works represents quite different facets of Jansch's talent; where Circus is a bluesy, late-night sounding party, Ornament is altogether more subdued, drawing on Maggie Boyle's bodhran, flute and whistles to creative a sound that is nothing if not celtic. Toy Balloon falls somewhere in the middle, with that feeling of intimacy that is so Bert.

Despite these apparent contrasts, the unifying element is of course, Jansch's guitar. There is an ease about these albums that suggests a musician that has found himself very at home-"just a simple soul", to quote the man himself.

The real draw here for many Jansch fans will be disc four: unreleased tracks (including-let joy be unconfined!-one with John Renbourn), as well as alternative takes of familiar songs from the '90s period. Chosen specifically for their contrast to the studio versions, these tracks are often more stripped-down or without the embellishment typical of the era. Mostly recorded at Bert's home studio, this unheard and unreleased collection, transferred from Bert's own DAT tapes, has a intimate quality that is incredibly moving.

This London-based duo's formula of addictive melodies, electronic frolics, and found sounds have put them on the musical map. Silly noises married to sultry vocals and perspicacious lyrics produce recordings of shimmering originality and nascent charm. The problem with a lot of electronic music is that it either takes itself too seriously or not seriously enough. Psapp offers the perfect solution: do both...knick-knacky sound effects, plucky violin, and whizzing bleeps over warm, elastic beats for a euphoric sound that's like a toy closet come to life - SF Weekly.

"Beheaded was such a quiet record out of necessity. I was living in a small apartment. Some of the songs I did are really quiet with no drums because I couldn't think of anything to do, we couldn't practice, and I didn't want to wake up the neighbors. It's a definite case of environment affecting the creative process."-Matt Kadane

Equal parts classic-era punk, casio minimalism, slam poetry,

Gospel Music's debut full-length album, How To Get To Heaven From Jacksonville, FL finds Owen Holmes picking up where he left off with his acclaimed 2010 EP Duettes, a five-song collection of charming duets with members of Camera Obscura, Vivian Girls, The Magnetic Fields, Hefner and French singer/songwriter SoKo. Using a musical arsenal of toy piano, banjo, acoustic guitar, organ, ukulele, bass and drums, Holmes casually delivers 11 stories with a conversational baritone reminiscent of David Berman and Adam Green. Jacksonville pal Madeline Long acts as the perfect foil to Holmes here, adding a sweet, girlish counterpoint to his deep register. Raymond Scott, who was both musician and inventor, musically reinvented eleven of his compositions for full orchestra and strings on
his 1957 album THIS TIME WITH STRINGS.

Many of these tunes were originally recorded by Scott's novelty jazz

An Acoustic Evening At The Vienna Opera House

Joe Bonamassa: An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House was recorded at the historic Vienna Opera House last July during a very special two-week long unplugged tour, played to a limited audience over seven exclusive European shows. Varying from his predominantly electric blues shows, this presentation was an all-acoustic concert performance, making it a unique and very special show fans had been waiting years to experience.

Produced by long-time collaborator Kevin Shirley, Joe is supported on his vintage acoustic instruments by an eclectic assortment of craftsmen from around the globe. They include: Gerry O'Connor, a music historian and traditional Irish fiddler from many generations of Irish music, on Irish fiddle, mandolin, and Irish banjo; Swedish multi-instrumentalist Mats Wester will play the Nyckelharpa, a Swedish keyed-fiddle; Los Angeles keyboard maestro Arlan Schierbaum, whose extensive recording career focuses on organic instruments, plays accordions, celeste, toy pianos, and more; and legendary Puerto Rican percussionist, Lenny Castro, whose works spans genres and reads like a who's who of artists, including the Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John, Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, Toto, Stevie Wonder, David Sanborn, Avenged Sevenfold, Little Feat, Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.

    Super Fake Nice

Nearly twenty years since the formation of his Tennessee-based project, Self, Matt Mahaffey is releasing a new EP - Super Fake Nice.

The six-song collection will feature original tracks - "Gonna Rock," "Subconscious," "Hey Hipster," "Looks And Money," "Splitting Atoms" and the lead single "Runaway." Super Fake Nice was written, produced, recorded, performed and arranged by Matt Mahaffey at his Fresh Imperial studio in Franklin, Tennessee. This is the first new body of SElf material to be released since his 2005 album Porno, Mint, & Grime.

SElf is the brainchild of Matt Mahaffey, a multi-instrumentalist studio wizard. He began writing songs at the age of four and spent a large part of his high school and college upbringing mastering studio techniques. In 1995 he released his debut SElf album, Subliminal Plastic Motives followed by tours with Garbage, 311 and Cracker. An early review of the debut from People Magazine described Mahaffey as a "virtual one-man rhythm nation" and stated the album proves " that alternative rock can be more than atonal, angst-ridden prattle." Following Subliminal , came releases on Dreamworks and Spongebath including 1999's Breakfast With Girls and 2000's Gizmodgery (made completely with toy instruments).

Since then, Mahaffey further crafted his unique blend of funk, hip-hop and alt-pop and in the early 2000's his focus started to shift into film and television, scoring music for CSI Miami, Entourage and Weeds. He also started playing and producing for other artists including Beck, Pink, Liz Phair, Keith Urban, The Sounds, Lupe Fiacsco, HelloGoodbye and Tenacious D.

Robert Crotty With Me: Loren's Collection (1979-1987) (Pre-Order)

Unheard 1970 And 1980s Recordings By Legendary Avant Guitarist Loren Connors

The First Anthology Of Blues Guitarist/singer Robert Crotty

Include Bonus CD Of Crotty's Late 1980s Ultra-rare Lp And 7-inch Released On Connors' Private Label

In the years 1978 to 1981, Robert Crotty would show up
on Loren Connors' doorstep in New Haven, Connecticut
with his tiny, almost toy guitar. The two would then spend
hours playing acoustic blues, the likes of which was absolutely
    staggering in its truthfulness.

"Robert Crotty with Me: Loren's Collection (1979-1987)"
is the first anthology of the late bluesman's work, as selected
by Connors, his former playing partner and avant
blues master. These are the unheard tapes of Crotty and
Connors communing with the spirits of Delta and County
Blues through their own revisions of standards and tingleinducing
improvisations. These also some of the Connors'
earliest available recordings showing the development of
his iconoclast guitar style and vocal moan.

Crotty was a New Haven lifer and linchpin of the region's
blues scene yet, he never achieved much recognition outside
local bars and house parties - until now.

The album features never before heard recordings, unseen
photos, liner notes by Connors and Crotty's brother plus a
bonus CD: the first-time reissue of Crotty's ultra rare sole
LP "Robert Crotty Blues" and 7-inch -- both released on
Connors' private St. Joan imprint in the late 1980s.

S/T II: The Cosmic Birth And Journey Of Shinju TNT (On Sale)

Finally, after over a month of unanswered emails and text messages, blown deadlines, and pleas to finish and turn in their new album, last week, a large brown cardboard box showed up at the Dead Oceans doorstep. It had SHINJU TNT scrawled across the bottom of the box in black magic marker, and the return address read only AK, Detroit.

Opening it revealed a sincere but poorly made diorama of futurist swirling spaces filled with toy astronauts and dinosaurs, four blown out song fragments on a TDK CDR in a zip-lock bag, three pictures, and a typewritten note from Akron/Family. A post-it on the bag declared the band refused to send the full album to anyone but the vinyl pressing plant, for fear of leaking and possible lost revenues.

From the note and a short video that arrived days later, Dead Oceans pieced together that the album was written in a cabin built into the side of Mount Meakan, an active volcano in Akan National Park, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. It was recorded in an abandoned train station in Detroit with the blackest white dude we all know, Chris Koltay (Liars, Women, Deerhunter, Holy Fuck, No Age). Chris, on tour after finishing the record, commented: this album will transcend the internet.

Akron/Family spent the end of 2009 and half of 2010 exploring the future of sound through Bent Acid Punk Diamond fuzz and Underground Japanese noise cassettes, lower case micro tone poems and emotional Cagean field recordings, rebuilding electronic drums from the 70's and playing them with sticks they carved themselves. Upon miraculous resuscitation of the original AKAK hard drive, the album layers thousands of minute imperceptible samples of their first recordings with fuzzed-out representations of their present beings to induce pleasant emotional feeling states and many momentary transcendent inspirations.

    The End Of Teenage Disillusionment

Leave your candy-colored cans in the toy chest and try a pair of proper headphones. Grado RS2e are hand-crafted from select Mahogany tone-woods, like a fine musical instrument. Our exclusive Series E curing process enhances the natural properties of the wood to produce rich, full-bodied vocals in a light-weight form factor. Put on Brian Eno's 'Another Green World', close you eyes and dream as if you'll live forever.

The RS2e is the little brother of the RS1e but is just as aesthetically pleasing, now utilizing our proprietary curing process that gives a new, lighter look. The RS2e has a 44mm driver and uses The e Series 8 conductor cable design. The hand-crafted mahogany utilizes new advanced damping treatments that help control and dissipate resonances. The RS2e still maintains an overall sound that is pure Grado, with warm harmonic colors, rich full bodied vocals, excellent dynamics, and an ultra-smooth top end. These truly are an audiophiles dream.

... We not only felt every tremor and shudder of the gigantic plane, we heard even the most subtle details, such as the ice cubes rattling the passengers' plastic beverage cups. The combination of an engrossing film and an impressive set of headphones made it feel as though the RS-2s disappeared and the sound seemed to be coming from far outside the actual confines of the headphones.

    Harvest of Gold

"With an ability to make lyrics twist and shine in her gem-like pop songs...the singer-songwriter is a musical chameleon, who can
churn hook-filled songs it's piano ballads with haunting melodies that will stick in your head for days."
    - Time Magazine

"A traditional pop sensibility structures elements of wandering, atmospheric electronica, while crescendos of rich instrumentation
give the collection a classical touch. And then there's Croome's singular voice: Utterly sweet, but with the thick complexity of
honey, rather than a childlike or cheeky bubblegum smack..." - MTV World

Australia's Gossling is quietly brewing a revolution against the status quo, all powered by delicate and sophisticated vocals.
There's no swagger here, no bravado, instead Gossling's music proves the irresistible power of minimalism.

"I'm interested in music that stirs emotion," says Gossling's mastermind Helen Croome, about her latest album, Harvest of Gold.
The debut LP follows the critically-lauded EPs which earned Croome accolades and airtime in Australia and activated a global
audience, earning Gossling a stellar 2014 set at South-By-Southwest where she was named by the links of Elle, Esquire and
Buzzfeed as an artist to watch in 2014.

Back in Melbourne she teamed up with producer John Castle (Vance Joy, The Bamboos) and set up shop in his studio called The
Shed. "It's really a shed," Croome laughs, "it's a three room shack near his house, and John and I would toy around with keyboards
and drums. The mics are set up to be live. If you have an idea, we put it down right away." The quick production session created
the succinct sound of Harvest of Gold - nothing overwrought, just simple songs with lush textures and vocal hooks that deftly
    weaves complex emotional themes throughout.
