Black GoldIn 1969, the High Priestess Of Soul, Nina Simone, descended onto the stage of the Philharmonic Hall in New York to record her new live-album, Black Gold.
It became a legendary performance, with the first recording of the Civil Rights song 'To Be Young, Gifted And Black',
a song which is not addressed to white people primarily. Though it doesn't put you down in any way...it simply ignores you. For my people need all the inspiration and love that they can get.
Black Gold also contains a rendition of Sandy Denny's 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes,' in a minimalist arrangement that ends in an uplifting orchestration true to both the writer of the song and the performer. Throughout the entire performance Ms Simone keeps a regal, aloof and sometimes goofy composure, her monologues in between songs ushering the listener a little closer to her moving performance.
Her eclectic style takes us past a number of different music forms; past Soul and Gospel and Folk, Jazz and Broadway; her androgynous and distinctive timbre floats somewhere between melancholy and bliss, and yet we always feel that Ms Simone is taking us exactly where she wants us to go.
Overall, Black Gold is a poignant and touching album from the peak of her performing and recording period that should not be overlooked.1. Introduction

She Has No Strings Apollo (On Sale)With each member of the band living on a different continent it took more than just a phone call to instigate a rehearsal. In February of 2002 (their 10th anniversary as a musical group), The Dirty Three reunited in Melbourne, Australia to demo some ideas they had been working on individually. They wound up with 20 songs, picked their favorites of the batch, and hit the road for two months to tour the new material. Along the way they met Fabrice Laureau, who among other things recorded part of the hit soundtrack to the film Amelie. He offered to record the band at a studio outside Paris, and thus was born She Has No Strings Apollo, the Dirty Three's sixth proper studio album.
Originally released in 2003, She Has No Strings Apollo is marked by the band's signature sounds crashing together with remarkable power, fury, and beauty. Subtle touches of piano and the addition of bass guitar (a first for the band) work beautifully behind the shimmering melodies created by Warren Ellis' soaring violin, Mick Turner's ethereal guitar, and Jim White's tidal drumming. The Dirty Three makes that rare brand of music that is raw and pure and expressive and untainted by artifice.1. Alice Wading

While it's difficult for any artist to find and gain success, the real struggle comes with
sustaining it. Silverstein are one of those rare artists that have found a way to stand the
test of time. Their formula is no secret: they have been going at full speed, nonstop for
the past 15 years. They've taken no breaks between touring and recording, and have
consistently produced quality albums and played sold out shows across the world.
Since their inception, they've played over 1,700 shows and sold over 1 million albums.
The band's most recent headline tour resulted in 90% sell out business, while playing
1,000 capacity venues in 40 US major markets. Silverstein will also be appearing on
the entire 2015 Vans Warped Tour, proving that the band's relevance is still thriving.
Silverstein's newest album, "I Am Alive In Everything I Touch," is one of the band's
strongest albums to date. These 12 songs are each uniquely crafted to showcase the
band's signature mixture of emotional screams and soaring melodies. Every band
writes one record that truly captures their essence and shows what they are about. It is
the album immediately recommended when discovering a band's discography. This is
Silverstein's trademark album.
"I Am Alive In Everything I Touch" is a timeless album. This is Silverstein at the top of

OCD Go Go Go Girls (Discontinued) (On Sale)Although, originally hailing from different parts of the UK, the Lovvers formed while all four members were living in Nottingham in 2005. The group re-calls the spirit of the Germs, the weirdeness of Flipper, the pop-style of the Wipers, and the carefree attitude of The Replacements.
Having released four noisy 7 singles, the band signed to Wichita Recordings in 2008 and released the Think EP that same year. With OCD Go Go Girls the Lovvers set about making a record that in their own words is an unconventional weird pop record. The first single of the same name takes the Real Kids or Television and perhaps adds a touch of influence from the Lovvers other favorite bands, such as No Age or Times New Viking. The album is new-meets-old but by the end its fuzzed out Woodstock. This is vintage stuff; a completely analog recording.1. Creepy Crawl

Remastered By Steve Albini And Bob Weston At Chicago Mastering
Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he
was living in Evanston, Illinois, and attending Northwestern
University. Lungs, the first Big Black release, was recorded by
Steve in 1982 on a borrowed 4-track. He played everything on
the EP himself except the sax bleating courtesy of pal John
Bohnen and the drums courtesy of Roland. Soon after, Steve
recruited Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) to help him out on bass.
Santiago Durango (Naked Raygun) joined them on guitar. In
1983, together with live drummer Pat Byrne, they recorded the
Bulldozer EP. It was initially released in a limited edition
galvanized metal album jacket on Fever Records. By 1984, the
band had done some touring and signed a deal with Homestead
Records, releasing the Racer X EP, the Il Duce 7", and their
first full-length Atomizer as well as The Hammer Party CD.
Shortly after those releases, freed from their Homestead deal,
Big Black came to Touch and Go. In 1992, Touch and Go re-released the Bulldozer EP.
By 1987, Big Black released two additional 7"s, The
Headache EP, as well as their second full-length Songs About
Fucking. They toured extensively (for Big Black). And they
broke up. To quote the album insert in Songs About Fucking:
"Hey, breaking up is an idea that has occurred to far too few
groups. Sometimes to the wrong ones."
When they broke up, Santiago Durango decided to go
to law school and is now a lawyer. While in law school, he released two EP's on Touch and Go Records as Arsenal. Steve
Albini went on to form Rapeman and then Shellac. He also
owns and operates Electrical Audio recording studio in Chicago.1. Cables

SlintSlint, also known as "Glenn/Rhoda" or "Untitled", is the first and only EP released by the post rock band Slint.
Released after the band had already broken up, it includes two songs that were recorded in 1989. It was first intended to be released as a 12" single on Jennifer Hartman Records, as original copies of the Tweez LP included a flyer advertisement for the 12" as an insert. However, Slint signed to Touch & Go Records before it was sent to press and the master tapes were shelved. In 1994 Touch and Go released the EP in 10" and CD formats. It contained a previously unreleased track, "Glenn," and a reinterpretation of "Rhoda" from Tweez.
On the 10" vinyl edition, the sides of the record are labelled with illustrations of a triangle and an octopus, rather than A/B, one/two, or track titles.

DownRemastered From Original Tapes by Steve Albini and Bob Weston.
By the time The Jesus Lizard released Down in 1994, alt-rock had long exploded and penetrated the commercial mainstream. Despite being a hair more subdued than the noise-rock band's previous releases, the still-manic Down didn't break through, but unlike most releases of the time, it didn't compromise either. The Jesus Lizard's final studio album for Touch & Go and last record produced by Steve Albini, it's also the last essential statement the band put down on tape. And it's never sounded better.
Part of Touch & Go's stellar Jesus Lizard reissue campaign, Down has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Bob Weston (Mission of Burma, Shellac) and original engineer Steve Albini. The new pressing presents Down in a sonic light that exceeds even the best expectations. There's greater space between instruments, heightened dynamics, a more solidified midrange, and an incredible boost in energy. Benefiting from Albini's dry, spare, and no-frills production, indie-rock has seldom sounded so dangerous, physical, blunt, or fervent.

LiarRemastered From Original Tapes By Steve Albini and Bob Weston.
Originally released in 1992, the Jesus Lizard's Liar set a new standard for noisy, visceral indie rock that has yet to be matched. Fronted by powder-keg vocalist David Yow and featuring one of the tautest rhythm sections ever assembled, the Chicago-based quartet matched tension with physicality, madness with delight, and sheer intensity with nightmarish force. Liar finds the band at its peak, the post-punk music exploding with raw urgency, primal grime, and ferocious emotion. And the mayhem has never been better.
Part of Touch & Go's stellar Jesus Lizard reissue campaign, Liar has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Bob Weston (Mission of Burma, Shellac) and original engineer Steve Albini. The new pressing presents Liar in a sonic light that exceeds even the best expectations. There's greater space between instruments, heightened dynamics, a more solidified mid-range, and an incredible boost in energy. This is as close as it gets to witnessing the Lizard onstage; indie-rock has seldom sounded so dangerous, physical, blunt, or fervent.
From the opening caterwaul of Boilermaker to the auto-parts clang of Gladiator to the twisted rodeo that is Rope, the Lizard utilize dynamics, silences, and textures in ways no group has ever come close to duplicating. Freakish, weird, beautiful, and overwhelmingly influential.

Grey OceansCocoRosie are two American-born sisters, Sierra and Bianca, who started making music together in Paris in 2003. Their first album, La Maison de Mon Reve, was released in 2004 and their second album, Noah's Ark, followed in 2005. Their third and most recent album, The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, came out in 2007. All three of these albums were released worldwide on Touch and Go Records and earned critical acclaim both overseas and at home. The nomadic duo (currently and temporarily residing in New Mexico) spent much of 2008 writing and recording in Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Berlin, New York, and Paris, finding amazing and diverse musicians to collaborate along the way. Out Of AfricaTriclops! assaults the public with the best acid punk around today. Don't let their pedigree fool you: Triclops! turns the dial down on the bellicose punk/hardcore you might expect, instead opting for meandering yet tension-filled psychedelic epics.
The seven songs on Out of Africa, their first full-length, are reminiscent of the golden hits from the 1990s Touch and Go or Amphetamine Reptile catalogs, tweaked out on the exhilarating paranoia typical of America in the early aughts. Distorted vocals, oscillating bass lines, and jittery guitars form a nervous, seasick swath over the plodding drums.
Featuring AT veterans Larry Boothroyd of Victims Family on bass and John Geek of Fleshies on vocals; other members were in Bottles and Skulls and Lower Forty Eight, Out Of Africa was recorded with Kurt Schlegel, the Melvins' engineer, at his Lucky Cat Studio!1. March of the Half-Babies

The Jesus Lizard's full-length debut announced the arrival of a band whose uncompromised approach, visceral tension, and scathing commentary would redefine the American underground. With the addition of drummer Mac McNeilly, the group's initial EP featured a drum machine, the Chicago-based quartet completed its evolution from a hardcore/industrial-inspired act into a distinctive band whose mix of metallic textures, rumbling grooves, vice-grip tension, and muscular rhythms can be heard for the first time on Head. And the landmark 1990 release has never sounded better.
