    25th Anniversary Edition

Remastered Vinyl Versions Of The Original Album And The Demos

Includes Extensive Liner Notes By Annie Zaleski Featuring Interviews From All Four Band Members And Producers Scott Litt And John Keane

A quarter of a century after 'Out Of Time' helped break alternative music into the American mainstream and turned R.E.M. into a worldwide phenomenon, the band have announced a special 25th Anniversary Edition, out via Concord Bicycle.

'Out Of Time' will be released in a 3 LP Set which will include remastered vinyl versions of the original album alongside demo versions of every album track, as well as demos for two non-album b-sides and a previously unreleased song. The release also contains extensive liner notes by Annie Zaleski featuring interviews from all four band members and producers Scott Litt and John Keane.

The demos, recorded at John Keane Studio in early 1990 and featured on all versions of the 'Out Of Time' reissue, provide key insight into the band's creative process: from early instrumental passes to versions of Losing My Religion and Texarkana with different lyrics, and even a version of Radio Song that features a rare moment with drummer Bill Berry on lead vocals for a verse. While recording them, it was clear to Keane that R.E.M. were at their peak in terms of creativity."

By 1991, R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe) had amassed a sizable following in the United States, but 'Out Of Time' brought the Athens, GA band unprecedented global recognition. It was the group's first album to top both US and UK charts, selling 12 million copies worldwide, and garnered 7 Grammy nominations, including wins for Best Alternative Music Album, Best Short Form Music Video (Losing My Religion"), and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (Losing My Religion").

Instant classic songs like Losing My Religion," Shiny Happy People," Near Wild Heaven," and Radio Song" broke new ground, artistically and commercially. Reviewing 'Out Of Time,' Rolling Stone simply said, This may well be America's best rock & roll band." Earlier this year, Pitchfork called the album arguably their most important record," while Time Magazine named 'Out Of Time' one of it's All-Time 100 Albums, saying it contains ethereal beauty rarely heard on a rock record."

    Handcrafted in the USA

The wonderfully simple 300B directly heated triode is virtually Lee De Forest's very first evolutionary 3-element piece, comprising only filament, input grid and anode output. Brought to reliable perfection by Western Electric USA and later by Standard Telephones UK as the 4300B, the 300B was very much intended and widely used for telephony amplification. But audio enthusiasts of older times knew a good thing when they saw (heard!) it and the great love affair between the 300B and music began... and dwindled many years later as the American Western Electric 300B was taken out of production in the late 1980's making the genuine ones extremely valuable and, accordingly, very highly prized as collectors' pieces. With the Asian-driven passion and resultant revival of SINGLE ENDED topology the call for the 300B to be put back into production was too overwhelming for the Chinese factories to resist. The Russian and the re-start of USA manufacture of the genuine Western Electric original have further expanded the selection. Basic thermionic simplicity... directly-heated triodes... it is a drug for some, a religion for others...

With its decidedly (and studiedly) 'retro' physical proportions- very deep front-to-back dimensions with a narrow side-to-side width, this layout closely follows concepts of a bygone era, where the well-conceived intention was to keep the power supply as far as possible from the hum and noise susceptible octal input tubes. The output tubes themselves require careful distancing from the mains transformer and, of course, require pure DC on their filaments. Again, reverence to past times begs the use of vacuum tube rectification with its very gentle voltage rise-time. But to bring the performance up to modern demands, we use two rectifiers to enable the use of very substantial filter / reservoir capacitors... over 1300 microfarads in the B+ rail- much improved from the 4 or 8 microfarads utilized in the 1930's.

When several other manufacturers started selling single-ended amps with 5 to 9 watts of power, we understood subjectively and objectively the good part of the story: the superb mid range, the delicate detail, the inherent simplicity. The bad news was that there were almost no speakers efficient enough to help form a dynamically viable system. The worst news was that either these single-ended amps cost more than the condo and or they had specs that could only be read as a joke. As the triode fans increased, more efficient speakers became available and several fanatics began to dismiss push-pull as a bad thing to be avoided at all costs. We objected to such blanket generalities and stressed that the push-pull done right with truly phase-balanced transformers, quality parts throughout and well designed circuitry has proven to be a superb technique. We also enjoy single-ended topology but only when it is done right, mostly because we expect flat frequency response and low distortion out of an amplifier. We knew that we could achieve this in a properly conceived single-ended design. We chose to rise to the challenge of designing special circuitry that could be switched on the fly From 12 watts in parallel SINGLE-ENDED to 25 watts in PUSH-PULL which, we believe is unique in the industry.

The Output transformer (hand-wound in our own factory) is of complex design employing inordinately high primary inductance to compensate for the mandatory magnetic gap required for the uni-direction current and voltage flow of the single-ended output stage. Another factor in the single ended triode saga (currently enjoying a wide spread popularity) is demand for little (or sometimes zero) negative feedback. We at Manley Labs believe in the judicious or sensible amount of feedback to refine and maximize performance. Our Neo-Classic SE/PP300B gives you the choice in precision switched 1 dB steps to go from ZERO dB's to 10 dB's of negative feedback. Even with zero negative feedback, this amp is cleaner and flatter than any single-ended amp we know of.

One interesting aspect of negative feedback is it gives a higher damping factor. Conventional wisdom would have us think that the higher the damping factor, the better. Our experience is that the optimum damping factor is not infinity and that it depends on the speaker, the room. and the taste of the listener. In other words, the optimum is variability, and this we provide. This amp satisfies us as long time amplifier builders, amazes the critics in several well known magazines and is bound to satisfy you with the ability to fit into your system and your expectations. BUT REMEMBER PLEASE the overall facts of power ratings versus loudspeaker sensitivity and room size when electing to venture into lower power amplifiers (less than 50 watts) and especially when contemplating single-ended topology.

    200 Gram Vinyl

Analogue Productions and Quality Record Pressings present the definitive Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet, now a 33 1/3 RPM LP

Reissued as a gatefold jacket, with rare black and white photos from the Columbia Studios recording session. Heavy-duty chipboard shell stock by Stoughton Printing

Virtually all serious and even casual music lovers ought to be familiar with, or at least are likely to have heard The Dave Brubeck Quartet, even without realizing it - for the quartet's best-known hit Take Five has graced the soundtracks of multiple films, including Mighty Aphrodite, Pleasantville and Constantine.

The piece is famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody, as well as its use of unusual 5/4 time - so distinctive, it's a rare jazz track that became a pop hit.

Including the monster hit Take Five, the Brubeck Quartet's Time Out is a jazz and audiophile classic. Every album collection needs a copy. And now, cut at 33 1/3 RPM on 200-gram premium vinyl, pressed at Quality Record Pressings (Acoustic Sounds' own industry-lauded LP manufacturer), Analogue Productions brings you Time Out renewed.

The jacket is also special - very heavy-duty. It's produced for us by Stoughton Printing featuring a printed wrap mounted to a heavyweight chipboard shell, producing an authentic old school look and feel. This jacket is a beauty! Never has Time Out's colorful iconic cover art looked so vibrant.

The record label's sales executives didn't want a painting on the cover when Time Out debuted in 1959 on Columbia Records, Brubeck told an interviewer. An entire album of originals? That wouldn't work either, he was told. Some standards and some show tunes were needed in the mix. Fortunately, Brubeck ignored the conventional wisdom and Time Out became the original classic we know it as today. Brubeck became proof that creative jazz and popular success can go together.

Why definitive? The dead-quiet double-LP, with the music spread over four sides of vinyl, reduces distortion and high frequency loss as the wider-spaced grooves let your stereo cartridge track more accurately. But it's more than just the vinyl that makes this release so special. For the first time in its history, Time Out is presented here packaged in a deluxe gatefold jacket. Inside are eight fantastic black and white images shot during the recording session at Columbia's famous 30th Street Studios.

The jacket is also special - very heavy-duty. It's produced for us by Stoughton Printing featuring a printed wrap mounted to a heavyweight chipboard shell, producing an authentic "old school" look and feel.

The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State-sponsored tour of Eurasia. In Turkey, he observed a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music.

Paul Desmond, who was Brubeck's alto saxophonist, wrote "Take Five," at Brubeck's urging to try and write a song in quintuple (5/4) time.

"I told Paul to put a melody over (drummer) Joe Morello's beat," Brubeck explained. As a jazz pianist, Brubeck became a household name in jazz in part due to Time Out's success. Demond's cool-toned alto and quick wit fit in well with Brubeck's often heavy chording and experimental playing. Morello and bassist Gene Wright completed the group. The Quartet traveled and performed constantly around the world until breaking up in 1967 to pursue other musical ventures.

Time Out peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard pop albums chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Take Five" became a mainstream hit, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 5 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey, the precursor to today's Adult Contemporary charts. The song was included in countless movies and television soundtracks and still receives significant radio play.

    Numbered Limited Edition!

Time Further Out continues the Dave Brubeck Quartet's exploration of unusual time signatures that began on the ensemble's definitive 1959 album Time Out. Accompanied by an all-star cast, the esteemed pianist arranging tunes according to the number of beats per bar, in the process rewriting rhythmic rules and dance steps. In fact, the tracks are ordered by the number of beats per bar, starting with It's a Raggy Waltz and Bluette in 3/4, Charles Matthew Hallelujah in 4/4, Far More Blue and Far More Drums in 5/4, Maori Blues in 6/4, Unsquare Dance in 7/4, Bru's Boogie Woogie in 8/8, and concluding with Blue Shadows in the Street in 9/8.

Like the original Time Out album, Time Further Out's cover features a work of modern art: a painting by Spanish artist Joan Miro. Mastered from the original analog tape by George Marino at Sterling Sounds in New York and pressed at RTI in Camarillo, California, this record has never sounded so alive or immediate. A must-have jazz benchmark.

    Time Out Of Mind

This is the 30th Bob Dylan album, released in 1997. Time Out of Mind is hailed as one of Dylan's best albums, and it went on to win three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 1998.

The album features a particularly atmospheric sound, the work of producer (and past Dylan collaborator) Daniel Lanois, whose innovative work with carefully placed microphones and strategic mixing. Sonically, the album is reminiscent of Oh Mercy, the last album Dylan recorded with producer Daniel Lanois, but Time Out of Mind has a grittier foundation - by and large, the songs are bitter and resigned, and Dylan gives them appropriately anguished performances.

Original vinyl copies of Time Out Of Mind were made in small numbers, making this official reissue a much needed one!

Time Out! Time In For Them

Originally released in 1968, this album was recorded after vocalist Van Morrison left the band and while they were moving their home base to California, plunging full on into the Psychedelic maelstrom they helped create. Produced by Texas rockabilly maverick Ray Ruff, this is the sound of Them through the bizarro filter of California Acid tests. From a psych-punk historical perspective, Van Morrison made a big mistake leaving... though his buddy Kenny McDowell does the job just fine.

    Out Of Sync With Time

A debut album as beautifully dark as Nervous Curtains' Out of Sync With Time is probably the last thing you'd expect to come out of Dallas, Texas. But just as bands like Explosions in the Sky and Ghostland Observatory have managed to defy the mighty country tones of America's gruffest commonwealth, so now do the Curtains debunk any theory suggesting that the Lone Star State's music scene is defined solely by lap steel guitars and cowboy hats.

    Time

On his latest release, Alex Calder's strong love for classic 60's/70's guitar pop (Beach Boys, Beatles) as well as soft spots for Prince and Hall and Oates display his self proclaimed 'fascination with pop music'. While his influences certainly shape his work, it is his natural ear for melody and movement that make Calder's work both fluid and engaging. His knack and ambition both in his song writing and production provide a solid foundation for Calder's music to drift in an out of psychy realms.

'Suki and Me' has an air of mischief as it is tardily pushed along by it's bass line, (apt for someone who's perfect evening involves unlimited pinball and Bud) while avoiding the temptation that often comes with self-recording/producing to over layer his work. There are no over drenched chorus or walls of sound, instead leaving space for melody and texture to be neatly co-existent. Alex has found the sweet spot between slacker pop jangle and snug rhymtic production to create reassurance his songs have a are going somewhere.

To call his music lazy would be misdirected however, the sense of dragging is delicately addressed in almost voyeuristically in Lethargic. Intimate handclaps and shakers make it easy for one to visualize the living from which it came as Calder questions what to do with his time both literally and existentially.

    Free Time

Free Time formed in the summer of 2012 around Melbourne luminary songwriter Dion Nania (Panel of Judges). After moving to New York in 2011, Nania kicked around for a while, played some lead guitar with fellow Melbourne transplants Scott and Charlene's Wedding, then helped out the Twerps playing bass on a national tour. Shortly thereafter he began writing new songs with the intent of putting a new band together, eventually enlisting the support of Adrienne Humblet on bass, Jonah Maurer on guitar, and Michael Mimoun on drums.

Filling out Nania's jangly, sometimes heartbreaking pop, the band quickly recorded most of their first LP the day before Dion flew home to mix it. He returned with fragments for new songs and the band finished the record in December 2012.

Nania's songs tell stories of following love across the world, of being unsure about the future and of his place in it. Like the trans-pacific ping pong of the last 2 years of his life, his songs veer between sweet sadness and wild exuberance.

    Lost Time

Greg Fox (Guardian Alien, Liturgy, Zs) and Kid Millions (Man Forever, Oneida, People of the North) each approach their drums with a spiritual reverence. Together, they test the boundaries of rhythmic interplay through subtle and ecstatic means. They are often highlights of the groups they're respectively known for, Liturgy and Oneida, while concurrently leading cutting-edge ensembles and collaborating with some of the most innovative musicians of our time. Explorative by nature, each drummer is constantly challenging themselves and setting new musical goals, and it is these qualities that have made them in demand not only in New York, but through out the world. Lost Time is their first collaborative album, sparked by a mutual admiration and cemented by a deep and abiding friendship that has grown over the past five years. Improvisation is a language, and this album is a dialogue between two skilled musicians whose hunger to cover new musical ground binds them together. Their friendship is not only an essential foundation for, but also a key ingredient of, this display of improvisational and compositional mastery Lost Time is comprised of two long pieces that represent opposite ends of a musical spectrum, one blasting and one meditative. "Telegy/Time Lapse" is an astounding array of rhythm and noise, with Fox and Millions using their amplified heartbeats as the backdrop for percussive mayhem. Both musicians are maniacal, playing frantic but precise patterns bolstered by synthesizer loops and bursts of noise programmed by Fox. The incorporation of their heartbeats, the synchronization of their internal and external rhythms, was inspired by Fox's mentor and legendary free-jazz drummer Milford Graves. "Post Encounter Effect" exists in a space of relative calm, its complexity less conspicuous but no less profound. Fox and Millions play a slow and steady pattern that phases in and out of sync like a slow-motion Reich composition throughout the piece's 20 minute run-time. Perhaps most surprising is the emphasis on non-percussive instruments, guitars, keyboard, and even trumpet, that provide a tonal base drone and further the rhythmic exchange significantly.

    Rite Time

LP Has Been Out Of Print For Over 30 Years

Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger
Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed
a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of
ethnic, electronic, experimental, and modern classical music.

Rite Time, Can's 12th and last studio album was originally
released in 1986. Can got back together with original
vocalist Malcolm Mooney to record this album, which has
been deemed one of the classic Can albums.

The band's powerful influence has never diminished, and
their indelible mark is apparent in the bands who freely
acknowledge their importance - from Portishead, James
Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd,
Mogwai, Kanye West (who sampled 'Sing Swan Song') and
Radiohead - as well as across other disciplines such as
    visual art and literature.

    Give It Time

Three years have passed since the Revellions released their last single and it's been five years since their eponymous debut album on Dirty Water Records. This will be the one album this year for which anticipation is high. This is the one the fans have been waiting for. The album contains contributions from members old and new and spans a riotous five years, much of which was spent touring around Europe with recording sessions in Dublin fitted in when they were able to drag themselves out of the pub. Despite the time lapse and line up changes, this is no difficult second album. It's a coherent collection of tracks that truly represents the band at this time. This is a band becoming tighter than ever with new songs to not just rival but surpass those on the debut.

    Time For Tyner

Part Of The Blue Note 75 Anniversary Vinyl Reissue Campaign

Time for Tyner finds pianist McCoy Tyner with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Herbie Lewis, and drummer Freddie Waits. Tyner and Hutcherson blend together quite well on the first three tracks from the original program (all Tyner originals), and both display expertise at coming up with inventive ideas over modal vamps. The other three selections are veteran standards. I Didn't Know What Time It Was is taken by the full quartet, Hutcherson sits out on Surrey with the Fringe on Top, and a rhapsodic I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face is a piano solo. A fine all-round showcase for McCoy Tyner in the late '60s.

    Time To Go Home

Chastity belt is a rock band consisting of four friends - guitarists Julia Shapiro and Lydia Lund, bassist Annie Truscott, and drummer Gretchen Grimm. They met in a tiny college town in eastern Washington, but their story begins for real in Seattle, that celebrated home of Macklemore and the twelfth man. Following a post-grad summer apart, a handful of shows and enthusiastic responses from the city's diy community led them, as it has countless others, into a cramped practice space. They emerged with a debut album, No Regerts, sold it out faster than anyone involved thought possible, and toured America, a country that embraced them with open-ish arms. Now they're back and the tab is settled, the lights are out, the birds are making noise even though the sun isn't really up yet: it's time to go home, their second long-player and first for hardly art. In the outside world, they realized something crucial: they didn't have to play party songs now that their audience didn't consist exclusively of inebriated 18-22 year olds, as it did in that college town. Though still built on a foundation of post-post-punk energy, jagged rhythms, and instrumental moves that couldn't be anyone else's, the songs they grew into in the months that followed are equal parts street-level takedown and gray-skied melancholy. They embody the sensation of being caught in the center of a moment while floating directly above it; shapiro's world spins around her on on the floor, grounded by Grimm and Truscott's most commanding playing committed to tape. They pay tribute to writer Sheila Heti on drone and John Carpenter with the thing, and deliver a parallel-universe stoner anthem influenced by electrelane with joke. recorded by JosÉ Díaz Rohena at the unknown, a desecrated church and former sail factory in anacortes, and mixed with a cathedral's worth of reverb by Matthew Simms (guitarist for legendary british post-punks and one-time tourmates Wire), time to go home sees Chastity Belt take the nights out and bad parties of their past to their stretching points, watch the world around them break apart in anticipatory haze, and rebuild it in their own image with stunning clarity before anyone gets hungover.

    Right On Time

There's a narrative at work in The Brought Low's best songs, chronicling existence in the inner-cities outer boroughs and the pratfalls of hard work, hard liquor and hard time. The essence of these stories mirror the band's own: the past couple years has been a repetition of arrivals and departures: family dying and being born, band members entering in and then walking out. There was a local new wave revival whose aesthetic they couldn't have less to do with, a cycle of touring, working, and touring again, a decrepit practice space that's become a decrepit second home. On the other side of the tunnel they've come out stronger, more resolute in their conviction, and wired for maximum impact.

Singer/ guitarist/ songwriter Benjamin Howard Smith and drummer Nick Heller have been the nucleus of The Brought Low since the rolling thunder of their NYC debut in 1999. The band's universally-lauded self-titled debut album on Tee Pee Records earned them a loyal audience, and the howling overdrive of their impassioned live shows have become the stuff of city folklore. 2003 saw the addition of bassist Robert Russell as well as second guitarist Kevin Eleven, who left the band shortly after recording concluded, returning them to their original power trio format. Following the release of Right On Time, The Brought Low band has planned a series of guerrilla tours throughout the country that will carry them well into 2007.
