Ones and SixesOnes and Sixes is the new album from the Duluth-based trio of Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker and Steve Garrington, collectively known as Low. Ones and Sixes was co-produced by Low and BJ Burton at Justin Vernon's April Base Studios in Eau Claire, WI. "In our 20+ years of writing songs, I've learned that no matter how escapist, divergent, or even transcendent the creative process feels, the result is more beholden to what is going on at the moment. It's hard to admit that one is so influenced by what is in front of us. Doesn't it come from something magical and far away? No, it comes from here. It comes from now. I'm not going to tell you what this record is about because I have too much respect for that moment when you come to know it for yourself." - Alan Sparhawk, Low I spent much of 2002 in Germany, studying literature, collecting new experiences and attempting to process the existential crises so typical of your early 20s. Low - especially their album Things We Lost in the Fire, which I listened to for countless hours - was one of the few bands who helped me along with this. Their slow-growing, minimal, yet expansive songs just beg for introspection. Demand it, even. They cultivate a sense of grandeur and inquiry with their melancholic tone, which, if you're anything like me, sets you right down in front of the mirror for some much-neglected self-assessment. Is Low somehow The Velvet Undergound's song "I'll Be Your Mirror" transubstantiated into band form? As Alan said above, the meanings of the songs are transitory. Even if there was a specific impetus, nothing needs explaining beyond what the song itself reveals. It's an exercise on Low's end and, when the music is released, it becomes one for us. Ones and Sixes takes everything Low excels at and dips it in a heavy gold plating of industrial-leaning electronics. This catapults to new and extreme heights the innate beauty their music has always had. It's a series of contrasts: stunning and menacing, gorgeous and frightening, giving and desperate, and, ultimately, unbearably heavy and unbearably light. From one to six and back again. -Dee Dee Penny (Dum Dum Girls), NYC, June 20151. Gentle

We Are The OnesProduced by Grammy®, Emmy® and Oscar® winning song writer, Damon Ranger, We Are the Ones crackles with modern energy, from the call-to-arms manifesto of "Rule the World," to the anthemic bonding of "So What" to the intensely synth driven "Close to You," to the thematically soaring "Superhero". Another significant highlight of the album is a newly re-recorded acoustic version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" which has also been tapped as the official anthem for The Recording Academy's advocacy efforts, including the "Fair Play Fair Pay" Act.
Recently performed in Washington D.C. at the annual GRAMMYs On the Hill event, a video of the song premiered earlier this year on Entertainment Weekly's website. Also featured on the album is an explosive cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like A Hole." "I always thought it was a great song, a powerful song," DEE explains, "I can't wait to do that one live. Like 'We're Not Gonna Take It' is iconic, 'Head Like a Hole' is iconic for that era."1. We Are The Ones

Tell The Ones I LoveComing off their 2012 Grammy-winning album, "Nobody Knows You, and this album proves to hold equal charisma and sharpness that brought their first
album so much success. They are currently touring with the widely popular Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. This has increased the bands fan base greatly. They have been playing to sold out venues with enthusiastic audiences. They have literally been bringing the house down and winning audiences over with their incredible musicianship and hard driving renditions of some of their own compositions in a set of their own. Yes, the Steep Canyon Rangers
have received widespread exposure & critical acclaim as Steve Martin's backing band, but anyone who knows the Steeps and has heard them play, know that it is Steve Martin who is THEIR celebrity! Even Steve would tell you that.
Along with winning the Grammy for their last album Nobody Know You(without Steve) they have also won multiple IBMA awards, including Entertainers of the Year. They will be the hosts of this year's IBMAs as they move to their new home on North Carolina. The Steep Canyon Rangers have very close ties with Steve Martin, and he hugely supportive of them plugging the band whenever possible. They have appeared with him on countless national television programs such as Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight
show with Jay Leno, The View, The Today Show, plus many more.
Steep Canyon Rangers wanted Tell The Ones I Love to reflect the spirit of their concerts-an original, freewheeling, high-energy approach to bluegrass
that rests mainly on the songwriting of Graham Sharp and Charles Humphrey. They recorded the album almost entirely live, using few overdubs. While the Steep Canyon Rangers were certainly open to recording songs by other composers, or to dip into traditional material, Campbell ultimately had them record all original tunes, based both on the strength of the songs and the band's arrangements. For YouPrince's debut album, originally released in 1978.
Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Occasionally, his music can be maddeningly inconsistent because of this eclecticism, but his experiments frequently succeed; no other contemporary artist can blend so many diverse styles into a cohesive whole.1. One One OneJazz and metal might not appear at first to be the most obvious bedfellows, but leave it to a bunch of Norwegians to make it actually work.
One One One is Shining's conclusion to the Blackjazz trilogy and their seventh album, and finds the band on a rare pop tip. While their standout 'In The Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be A Monster' threw them into a soup of influences, One One One shows the band pitting their musical smarts against a (theoretically) much more simplistic mode.
'I Won't Forget' is the album's first single, and is accompanied by a suitably Brazil-esque video that pushes the Norwegians into some kind of dystopian future-scape. Riffing as if their lives depended on it, the band muster up a sound something like Don Caballero doing a rendition of a Queens of the Stone Age track with Rob Zombie on vocals, and that can't be a bad thing.

Taking One For The TeamTaking One for the Team, Simple Plan's fifth full-length and most ambitious album so far, offering hard-hitting punk-fueled tracks alongside songs that delve into everything from reggae to delicate acoustic balladry. Longtime fans can rest assured that Taking One for the Team is packed with plenty of quintessential Simple Plan tracks, including Boom, whose companion music video features cameos by members of All-Time Low, Pierce The Veil, PVRIS, MxPx, and many more Warped Tour all-stars. The album starts out full-throttle with the brutal guitar and furious drumming of Opinion Overload. It's a song about following your heart and dreams no matter what people say or think, explains Bouvier.
We're adults in our mid-thirties now, and we still have to deal with that. Sometimes you gotta remind yourself that it doesn't mean anything, that it's ok to stand up for yourself and be who you are and that's what's gonna set you apart. That same defiant spirit is present on I Refuse, where Simple Plan mine inspiration from punk/hardcore acts like Rise Against and Good Riddance, ultimately delivering the only punk anthem in recent memory to feature an elegant piano interlude. We grew up on that kind of music; it's in our DNA- we'll always need that energy and those super-fast, in-your-face songs that people love about this band, says bass player David Desrosiers of tracks like I Refuse or Nostalgic. I can already imagine us playing those songs live and seeing the crowd go crazy, singing along to every word.1. Opinion Overload

Eighty OneLandscape and memory have always played a central part in the music of Joe Corrales Jr. aka Yppah (pronounced yippah). Its what gives his tunes both their sense of place, their physicality, and their ethereal, almost nostalgic, sweetness. His third album for Ninja Tune reflects a change in the landscape around him. Midway through the process of recording the demos for what became Eighty One, Corrales started making regular trips to Galveston, on the Texas Gulf coast, to surf. So energized was he by his experiences, he left his home in Texas and moved to Long Beach, CA. Unsurprisingly then, he says that the images he had in his head as he made his new music were of the sea and the beach. I wanted a lot of the songs to feel like a warm wash, he explains.
On tracks like Blue Schwinn you can feel the pull and push of the ocean, the sun refracting through water. Corales' bifurcated belief in the power of both hip hop and My Bloody Valentine is still evident, but this is the warmest, most uplifting music he has made. This is reinforced by Corrales other source of inspiration. The record takes its title from the year Corrales was born and, perhaps the very act of moving away from childhood locales stirred up memories from random times in my life. Like I was trying to recreate certain feelings I had at different points in my life with melodies, if that makes any sense. And he goes on to ask, You know how when youre a child you feel your life has a certain melodic theme that you cant really put your finger on and you can almost hear it, but its not anything youve ever heard before? Eighty One is his attempt to capture those melodies.
The last piece in this act of reinvention is the presence on four tracks by Anomie Belle, a singer, producer and classically trained violinist based in Seattle. The pair met when Yppah was touring with Bonobo in 2010. The pair hit it off and Corrales contributed a remix to Belles album, The Crush. In return, she offered to listen to demos of Eighty One to see if she could find a track which she could add something to. In the words of Yppah, it was such a natural fit she ended up doing four! Beautiful, uplifting and imbued with a natural, unaffected warmth that cuts through the most biting cold, Eighty One is Yppahs most satisfying work yet.1. Blue Schwinn

One A.M.Diverse is a rapper you think you've heard before--not because this Chicago MC sounds similar to others, but because his presence is so powerful it seems impossible that this is only his first album. Intelligent without being arrogant, conscious without being corny, Diverse also boasts two of the greatest assets any MC could ask for: an authoritative baritone and a confident flow. These help him keep up with some of the more seasoned rappers who appear on the album, including Vast Aire (formerly of Cannibal Ox), Lyrics Born, and Jean Grae. Complementing Diverse's superior lyricism is top-notch production courtesy of a holy trinity of underground favorites: Prefuse 73, Madlib, and RJD2. They push the album from raucously energetic to sinisterly moody to laid-back cool. ... Volume OneShe & Him is a story of musical serendipity: two artists, each renowned in their own creative fields, meet and recognize a certain shared nostalgia. The result is destined to be one of the musical highlights of the year.
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward first met to record a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's When I Get To The Border for a movie soundtrack. Immediately struck by one another's talents and finding an instant rapport Zooey let slip that she wrote her own songs which she recorded alone at home on her computer. Somewhat shy about anyone hearing these musical morsels she eventually sent the demos to Ward who was instantly impressed. They soon reconvened at his Portland studio to begin work.
Embracing the warm sound of early analog recordings, Volume One is more than just a showcase for Zooey's rich and endearing voice; it's a distinctive and endlessly charming album. The songs themselves give a respectful nod to the likes of Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and The Zombies while Ward's production gives them just the right amount of golden era sheen. Whether Zooey's channeling Ronnie Spector as on I Was Made For You or joining Ward in turning The Beatles I Should Have Known Better into a seductive hula guitar duet, the results are always captivating.

I'll Play The Blues For YouThe regal twang and moan of Albert Kings guitar has long been one of the most riveting sounds in urban blues.
If King hadnt developed his way of bending notes into uncannily human cries, shouts and whispers, modern blues guitar would be a different phenomenon. King played his right-handed guitar upside down and backward, using his left hand. But there was nothing backward about the music he made. Literally pulling emotion from the strings, he created resonance and a sustained wail that distinguished him from all other blues guitarists.
In Ill Play The Blues For You, one of the prime albums of Kings Stax period, we hear a thrilling live performance of his classic Ill Be Doggone and a hair-raising Dont Burn Down The Bridge. Plays The Blues For You (Pure Pleasure)
Guitarist Melvin Taylor's fluid, smartly constructed solos and understated yet winning vocals are surprises on this 1984 nine-track set recorded for Isabel. Taylor is not a fancy or arresting singer but succeeds through his simple, effective delivery of lyrics, slight inflections, and vocal nuances. His guitar work is impressive, with skittering riffs, shifting runs, and dashing solos. Organist/pianist Lucky Peterson is an excellent second soloist, adding cute background phrases at times, then stepping forward and challenging or buttressing Taylor's playing with his own dazzling lines.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Talking To Anna-Mae (Part 1)

One True VineComing off the huge success of her first collaboration with Wilco frontman
Jeff Tweedy - the Grammy winning You Are Not Alone - Mavis Staples
wanted to make their second album together both a continuation of the
joyous spirit of the first, and an evolution. With new song offerings from
Alan Sparhawk of Low, Nick Lowe, and three new Tweedy originals, One True
Vine is at once a darker and more uplifting album, anchored by reinventions
of two 70s classics - Funkadelic's "Can You Get to That?" and the Staples
Singer's "I Like the Things About Me." Tweedy and Staples have constructed
a dense narrative arc, that starts with the literal soulsearching of Sparhawk's
"One Holy Ghost" and Tweedy's "Jesus Wept," and then breaks wide open
with Nick Lowe'ssoaring "Far Celestial Shores," a song he wrote for Mavis
after touring together with Wilco. After that, the album builds to full tent
revival mode, as the dark night of the soul passes and joy arrives in the form
of Mavis' glorious voice. Closing out with Tweedy's rapturoustitle track,
One True Vine truly builds on the promise of You Are Not Alone, and will
delight the myriad fans discovering Mavis for the first time though her
Grammy wins and performances, her White House performance in the
tribute to Memphis Soul, and the glorious second act of this American icon.1. Holy Ghost

Party Of OneRounder Records announces the first-ever solo album release from legendary guitarist/vocalist George Thorogood, titled PARTY OF ONE. The album will feature 14 cuts of traditional blues, classics, and modern blues songs, from John Lee Hooker's One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer to Hank Williams' Pictures From Life's Other Side, and The Rolling Stones' No Expectations.
PARTY OF ONE was produced by Grammy-winner Jim Gaines (John Lee Hooker, Luther Allison, and Stevie Ray Vaughan), who reunites with Thorogood on the debut solo project, having produced several of Thorogood's biggest albums to date (RIDE 'TIL I DIE, THE HARD STUFF, THE DIRTY DOZEN). The album's primarily acoustic instrumentation - including slide, Dobro, and harmonica - is performed entirely by Thorogood, raw and stripped down, with an intimate one-on-one feel.
Says Thorogood: I think this is a project that's long overdue. Maybe it should have been the very first album I ever made. After playing with the band for all these years, I had to kind of reverse my hands and my head in order to do this thing justice. Thorogood continues, But I think Destroyers fans - and hardcore blues fans, too - are ready for the unexpected. My whole career, I've always said, 'Just give them what you are, and they're either going to dig it or not.' This record is what I was, what I am, and what I always will be.
PARTY OF ONE is Thorogood's return to Rounder Records, the roots label with which he first signed in 1976 to record the three hit albums that launched his recording career, beginning with his debut, GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS. Says Rounder co-founder Ken Irwin: George's coming back is a nice completing of the circle. This record shows his talent as a storyteller in a very different setting, with all the emotion in his guitar and vocals. It's a really intimate record, but it's unmistakably a George Thorogood record, too.
Co-founder Marian Levy adds, You'd think it would be almost impossible to recapture, but there's immediacy to this record that harks back to the radicalism of the early Destroyers. In many ways, I think this record is a summation of George's career.
Rounder Records Vice President of A&R Scott Billington, also the album's executive producer, says: This wasn't an easy record for George to make. He had to viscerally reconnect with a time in his life when he was discovering who he was. But as you listen to these songs, you realize that he is, and always has been, an authentic blues player. This album is George Thorogood claiming his legacy.
Over the course of the last four decades, George Thorogood, with his longtime legendary band, The Destroyers, has sold more than 15 million albums, released 16 studio albums - including six gold and two platinum discs - and performed more than 8,000 live shows. George Thorogood and the Destroyers' catalog of hits include: Who Do You Love?, I Drink Alone, One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer, Move It On Over, Get A Haircut, and the anthemic Bad To The Bone.1.
