Tommy, The Who's defining, breakthrough concept album - a full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy that lauched the band to international superstardom, was originally released in May 1969. The Who were at the career crossroads, they were known mainly as a singles band but this project lauched them as a serious 'albums band' and now has sold over 20 million copies as well as regularly turning up on lists of the most influential albums of all time. Tommy is now available as a new 2 LP Deluxe Vinyl Edition.1. Overture

Instant ReplayThe Monkees have been one of the world's most enduring rock and pop acts of all time. Since their beginnings in 1966, their television show, multiplatinum albums, hit singles and concert tours truly made The Monkees one of the most colossal stories in the music business. In 1969, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz went back to the studio as a trio this time and recorded the classic Instant Replay album. Noted for their hit single Tear Drop City, this masterwork also found The Monkees reuniting with the production team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for several of the tracks as well as previous team Monkees writers like Carole King and Neil Sedaka, and highly touted producers like Bones Howe (The Association/Tom Waits) and Shorty Rogers and resulted in some of the finest collaborations ever with this superstar act. Instant Replay also offered the first look at Michael Nesmith's experimental and groundbreaking recording sessions in Nashville as well as solid compositions from all three Monkees.
Opening up with the pop rocker Through The Looking Glass, Micky Dolenz is on top of his game vocally with a brilliant background of horns, Bobby Hart on piano and guitar work by legends Keith Allison (Paul Revere & The Raiders) and Gerry McGee (The Ventures/John Mayall). A major fan favorite, this classic was performed at many of the reunion concerts over the years. The late great Davy Jones belts out another Boyce and Hart classic with the haunting ballad Don't Listen To Linda. The tune truly resonated with the fans back then and continues to be one of the more appreciated classics in his long list of time tested Monkees favorites. Carole King and Gerry Goffin's I Won't Be The Same Without Her features a strong vocal performance by Michael Nesmith and the stunning guitar work of both Monkees' Peter Tork and Glen Campbell. A real summer time feeling song, this track would be a nice bridge to Micky Dolenz's orchestral masterpiece Just A Game.
It is no secret that Nesmith was a fan of country music, but also lauded as one of the first pioneers of the country rock genre, not only with his contributions to the earlier Monkees' recordings as far back as Papa Gene's Blues, even for other noted artists like Linda Ronstadt for whom he penned her first smash single Different Drum. For the Instant Replay album, Nesmith ventured to Nashville's RCA Studios and cut Don't Wait For Me, the first released tune from his now famous Nashville sessions. With the fusion of country studio players and the voice and guitar of Michael Nesmith, The Monkees again were on the forefront of this new genre and would continue with this groundbreaking sound ever more so into future classics like The Monkees Present.
As the '60s would come to a close, Davy Jones would also contribute his major impact on the generation with his truly hip and psychedelic masterpiece You And I. Noted for its hard rock opening to side two, the track also features the stunning lead guitar textures of Neil Young who recently departed with The Buffalo Springfield. More favorites like Nesmith's While I Cry is one of the artist's finest compositions of the era. With Mike's beautiful acoustic guitar work and help from friends like Harry Nilsson, this ballad would truly become one of the more enduring songs from this 1969 classic Monkees album.
Neil Sedaka and Carol Bayer Sager contribute one of the classiest Monkees ballads ever with The Girl I Left Behind Me. Once again, the late great Davy Jones provides a superstar vocal second to none, with a soulful orchestra fill and band setting featuring the production and skillful piano work of Neil Sedaka, while Micky Dolenz would close out the album with his classic Shorty Blackwell. The whimsical tale of Micky's cat and a nod to his friends The Beatles' A Day In The Life, Shorty Blackwell would take almost a year to record and feature a bevy of the original wrecking crew of Hollywood musicians like drummer Jim Gordon (Eric Clapton/Traffic), Tommy Tedesco on guitar and even his sister Coco Dolenz on vocals. This track along with the other eleven tunes make this one of the more enduring and loved albums in the superior catalog of Monkees classics.
Friday Music is once again very honored to announce the continuation of The Monkees Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series with the re-release of their 1969 masterwork Instant Replay. Mastered by Joe Reagoso (The Monkees/Elvis Presley/Brian Wilson) from the original Colgems Records tapes at Friday Music Studios, this first time audiophile vinyl release is also for a very short time being offered in limited edition red vinyl as well as a first time gatefold cover presentation.1. QuadropheniaRanked 266/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
After the 1971 album Who's Next, Pete Townshend returned to the 'rock opera', so dramatically realized through Tommy, with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy, Quadrophenia tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band's early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today.
The project was intended to reflect the four characters of The Who and features some of Townshend's most inspired, personal songwriting, way ahead of its time in scope and purpose. Quadrophenia is one of the most widely recognized albums of The Who's career because of its classic depiction of mod culture, its renowned imagery and the magnificent music and powerful performances. The Glyn Johns produced album is hugely significant in popular culture, influencing many other artists, musicians and film-makers, inspiring the classic 1979 British film by Franc Roddam and the U.K. mod revival of the 1970s.LP1

Live At The Isle of Wight Festival 1970White Colored Vinyl
Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 is a 3 LP live album by The Who, recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival on 29 August 1970, and released by Sony in 1996. The Who were one year and three months into their Tommy tour when they played their second engagement at the Isle of Wight Festival. As in 1969, they played most of their famous rock opera, which by this time was quite familiar to the festival crowd. Huge spotlights bathed the audience of some 600,000 attendees, and as The Who's tour manager John Woolf recalls, attracted every moth and flying nocturnal animal on the island. By August 1970, Pete Townshend was already introducing new songs to the setlist including Water, I Don't Even Know Myself and Naked Eye. These songs, which were being recorded at the time of the festival, were intended for an upcoming project known as Lifehouse. Although Lifehouse was eventually abandoned, the sessions paved the way to the Who's classic album Who's Next. The Who also performed some live staples such as Heaven and Hell, Substitute, My Generation, Magic Bus, I Can't Explain, and the perennial covers of Shakin' All Over and Summertime Blues.LP1

Justice (Awaiting Repress)Bobby Ingram, brain, guitarist and main songwriter of American Southern rock act Molly Hatchet, the term 'justice' is more than just a word. To him, this basic concept expresses his whole philosophy of life. Justice, fairness, trust between friends, family members, parents and their children: what could be more important? Molly Hatchet live this maxim, to them this solemn promise applies not only within the international Southern rock community, but also to their music and its impact on their fans.
A dozen haunting rock numbers prove that Molly Hatchet are justly considered to be on a par with legends such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers. Justice is marked by hot Southern rock that could hardly be more powerful and diverse. Almost every single track signals its musical and thematic direction. Producer Ingram is responsible for the awesome sound, supported by sound engineer Tommy Newton, who mixed the album. "I wanted a warm, natural sound, which you only get with an analog mixing desk," Ingram explains his decision in favor of Newton and his Area 51 studio.
And so Justice has turned into an album that impresses at all levels: earthy, dynamic, with a lot of love for detail and loads of energy. One could say it's Molly Hatchet at their best!

The Who Sell Out
180-gram Vinyl, Remastered In 24/96 Format
Includes The Original Artwork
Includes Extras & Inserts Included In The Original Releases
Pete Townshend originally planned The Who Sell Out as a concept album of sorts that would simultaneously mock and pay tribute to pirate radio stations, complete with fake jingles and commercials linking the tracks. I Can See for Miles (a Top Ten hit) is the Who at their most thunderous; tinges of psychedelia add a rush to Armenia City in the Sky and Relax; I Can't Reach You finds Townshend beginning to stretch himself into quasi-spiritual territory; and Tattoo and the acoustic Sunrise show introspective, vulnerable sides to the singer/songwriter that had previously been hidden. Rael was another mini-opera, with musical motifs that reappeared in Tommy. The album is as perfect a balance between melodic mod pop and powerful instrumentation as the Who (or any other group) would achieve; psychedelic pop was never as jubilant, not to say funny (the fake commercials and jingles interspersed between the songs are a hoot).

Teaser - 40th Anniversary Box SetTommy Bolin, the bright young US guitar God who created a whirlwind with his loud, stylish, free-form fusion performances before his untimely death at the age of 25 in 1976, left a masterpiece that has been previously buried. TEASER should've been the album which broke Bolin worldwide. Instead, as a member of Deep Purple when the album came out in 1975, Bolin never got the chance to promote the album and it became a cult classic.
40 years after it was made, that is finally about to change. In May 2015, UDR Records will put out THE DEFINITIVE TEASER, a 3 album deluxe vinyl box-set supplemented with two live CDs and celebrating the 40th anniversary of this legendary release. Featuring long-lost outtakes and alternative mixes from the original TEASER studio sessions, plus two live CDs comprising performances from Ebbets Field, The Northern Lights, My Father's Place and Albany, THE DEFINITIVE TEASER is set to satiate the appetites of Bolin fans worldwide.LP1

Queensryche (Awaiting Repress)The group's brand new album, with a brand new singer, Todd La Torre.
Drummer Scott Rockenfield says, Century Media has been extremely enthusiastic ever since they came into the equation with us, and for what it's worth it's hard to find enthusiasm like that. After 35 years I guess I'm gracious and honored that we have people that are that enthusiastic about the band, so we're really happy about moving forward with them.
They've approached recording their 12th studio album with that open anything goes mindset. At the same time, the group hearkens back to the heavy metal side that defined classics such as The Warning, Empire, and Operation: Mindcrime - which KERRANG! ranked #34 on their 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All-Time list and is often uttered in the same breath alongside classic concept records such as Pink Floyd's The Wall and The Who's Tommy.
It's a return to form, Wilton says of the new music. We're rebuilding the architecture and setting it back on course. We have the energy I felt when writing 'Speak' and 'The Needle Lies' from Operation: Mindcrime. There was an excitement in knowing we were clicking on all cylinders at the top of our game. That chemistry and our passion for metal and hard rock has kept us together. We're keeping things fresh, while maintaining that thread that got us here in the first place. It may have gone astray, but it's a key element. You'll feel it on the next album. It'll be from the blood of the band more than ever.
Jackson echoes that sentiment, We want to bring back the sound we started with. As kids, we bonded over listening to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Rush. That heavier element is a major part of this band. We're revisiting that, and we're having a great time doing it. This is for the fans. We're so blessed to have them, and they're going to love this.1. X2

Possessed EPFull Color Sleeve
Just in time for Summer, Wrongtom emerges with a new vinyl EP on Tru Thoughts to take over the air-
waves and sound systems across the festval season and beyond. Out on 12' vinyl in a full colour sleeve
with an eerie, ouija board-inspired theme, the Possessed EP' continues in the spirit of his series of

Zion, The Correctonal Horns and Deemas J as well as a bonus cut from his long-standing live reggae/
dub collectve the Stoneleigh Mountain Rockers.
The Possessed EP' uses the killer rhythm from 'In East London' track Suzy Hangs Out', this inspired
move sprang from a chat about beats with Mark Professor, who happened to pass the rhythm on to
reggae singer JC Lodge 's husband Errol, who passed it on to JC. Oblivious to all this, Wrongtom was
then contacted out of the blue a while later with the beautiful Possession', showcasing the talent
of the revered singer who was signed to Tommy Boy records back in the day and collaborated with
Shabba Ranks and many others. So, with that brilliant track suddenly in my hand, I thought maybe I
should get a few diferent people on this rhythm and do what the classic reggae producers did', says
Wrongtom: release a set of versions'.
Wrongtom signed to Tru Thoughts in 2013, releasing the 'In East London' album under the Wrongtom
Meets Deemas J collaborative name, which brought praise from all corners for its uplifing and cele-
bratory yet down and dirty, vintage dub-infused sound. The tastemakers who lined up to heap praise

Special Vinyl Reissue In A Series Of Special 2014 Releases Commemorating The 65th Anniversary Of Prestige Records And The 90th Birthday Of Legendary
Recording Engineer Rudy Van Gelder
Originally released in 1956, Collectors' Items consists of two studio sessions recorded over roughly three years, with a menagerie of musicians taking
part. Because of the amount of time between each session (1953 and 1956), fans will get an intimate peek into the artistic maturation of the esteemed
artists who took part in the recordings. Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker (who recorded under the name "Charlie Chan" to avoid contractual issues while
under a rival label), Paul Chambers, Art Taylor and Tommy Flanagan were just some of the names who joined Davis in the studio. Collectors' Items opens
the studio doors to listeners, allowing them to take part in a moment-Charlie Parker trying out a new King tenor sax; Miles Davis informally improvising;
the band recording "Round About Midnight" at six PM, due to the studio closing down for the night. Ira Gitler's liner notes recall details like this-adding
dimension and a context to the album's tracks. This is most definitely a Collectors' Item for any jazz fan.1. The Serpent's Tooth [Take 1]

OVSE-MOV-801xHouse of Pain
House Of Pain (Fine Malt Lyrics)House of Pain was an Irish-styled American hip-hop group who released three albums in the 90's. Rapper Everlast teamed up with DJ Lethal and high school friend Danny Boy to form House of Pain. The group was signed to Tommy Boy Records, and their self-titled debut album (1992) went multi-platinum, spawning the successful DJ Muggs' (Cypress Hill) produced single Jump Around.
Fashioning themselves as rowdy Irish-American hooligans, they toured with various rap and alternative-rock bands after their breakthrough. You can also find them on the influential 1993 rock-rap collaborative Judgment Night movie soundtrack on which they perform a track together with Helmet. Put on your shit kickers and kick some...1. I Speak Machine are filmmaker Maf Lewis plus vocalist and synth-nerd Tara Busch. Together they make brooding soundtracks and sci-fi horror films, creating audio and visual in unison and giving both elements equal prominence. Their approach is inspired by Spaghetti Western cinema duo Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone, who used to play with score ideas for scenes while scripts were being written. I Speak Machine's debut offering is The Silence, an eerie and synth heavy journey to accompany their short film of the same name. Early supporters of I Speak Machine include new wave pioneer John Foxx (Ultravox) and soundtrack composer Clint Mansell (Requiem For A Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan). Most Messed UpMost Messed Up is a revealing, 12-track meditation on 20 years in music that finds the Old 97's at their raucous, boozy best. It's "a rock opera, a way-off Broadway musical about a musician's life, loves and lubrication," says music critic Bill Flanagan. Recorded in Austin and produced by Salim Nourallah, Most Messed Up also features guest appearances by Tommy Stinson (The Replacements, Guns N' Roses) and Jon Rauhouse (Neko Case) on lap-steel.
Titles like "Wasted," "Intervention," "Wheels Off," "Let's Get Drunk & Get It On," and "Most Messed Up" hint at the kind of narrators frontman Rhett Miller likes to inhabit - men who possess an appetite for indulgence and won't let a few bad decisions get in the way of a good story. The magic in Miller's songwriting lies in the depth that he lends his characters. Upon closer inspection, the hard partying and endless pursuit of a good time often reveals itself to be a Band-Aid covering up deeper wounds and emotional scars. REDD-THI-5953xRickie Lee Jones
The Other Side Of DesireIn the hands of the eccentric jazz-pop poet Rickie Lee Jones, the phrase the other side of Desire could mean a lot of things. As it happens, it's where the gets her mail; the singer-songwriter has been living quietly in New Orleans for a little over a year. This past fall, she celebrated her 60th birthday with the Lost Bayou Ramblers, at d.b.a.
The Other Side of Desire is also the title of Jones' first album of original material in more than ten years. Written, recorded and rooted in the city of New Orleans, according to press materials, it was crafted with producers Mark Howard and John Porter, whose resumes are heavy with names like Roxy Music, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and the Smiths. (Porter, who also lived in New Orleans for a time, can count locals like the Honey Island Swamp Band, Jon Cleary and Tommy Malone on his personal roster as well.)
The album is pure Jones: warm and whimsical, with a keen storyteller's touch. This time around, it's infused with the sounds of New Orleans. Strains of swamp-pop, honky tonk and Cajun waltzes wind through The Other Side of Desire which, the release said, could not have been written without the backdrop of New Orleans; its river, trains, barroom ghosts and sudden bands all playing the same song.

Delayed ReactionSoul Asylum is back and newly signed with 429 Records which will release their first album in six years, Delayed Reaction. This time around, the veteran band is energized with a recalibrated lineup that includes founders Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy alongside ex-Replacements, ex-Guns N' Roses bassist Tommy Stinson (who replaced original member Karl Mueller who passed away in 2006) and former Prince drummer Michael Bland.
Delayed Reaction, which was produced by the band and overseen by John Fields, bristles with the tightly wound, slightly ragged vibe that characterized the band when they emerged straight out of Minneapolis. The recording took place in various locations, beginning in Los Angeles and then relocating to New Orleans and Minneapolis and back to LA, each town giving the tracks a unique backdrop of local culture vibe.
Originally formed in 1983 in Minneapolis, MN, Soul Asylum has maintained their reputation for honest, heartfelt rock from their beginnings on scrappy local label Twin Tone (which concurrently nurtured the careers of seminal rockers the Replacements), through their commercially successful days on A&M and Columbia Records (where they scored a Grammy for the monster hit single "Runaway Train"). The band has persevered through the good times of garnering several platinum albums and accolades including a performance for the Presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton to enduring the personal tragedy of losing Karl Mueller to cancer six years ago.
Says Pirner on Delayed Reaction's recording process: "It feels like approaching it as an album and a thing that has a sequence, and a thing that is a piece of work in itself is almost an archaic process. Honestly, it's more organic. Even though you're using some of this newer technology, the fact that you're doing it yourself is what made it take so long and the process unique, this time.1. Gravity

Grammy nominated, Love Scenes features Diana's mastery of the romantic ballad in an intimate piano trio setting with Russell Malone on guitar and Christian McBride on bass.
When my producer, Tommy LiPuma, and I were deciding on the songs for my newest album, it never occurred to me that the songs we ultimately chose would be all about love. I selected songs that I personally liked, and that had a special meaning for me. However, as is often the case during the creative process, a connection among the songs just seemed to organically appear. The songs are indeed about romance. But to me there is a broader and more personal attachment to each of the songs than the standard definition of romantic love might imply. I think that these songs represent the strength of love, including the love of family and friends. But rather than describing my own thoughts about each song, it is my hope that all of you who listen to the music and read the lyrics will discover and imagine your own personal love scenes among the mountains, oceans, rain and gardens of these songs. - Diana Krall

10X10 (Pre-Order)Before his untimely death in 2012, renowned American rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose began recording an ambitious passion project with bassist Ricky Phillips (Styx, Bad English) and drummer Eric Singer (Kiss, Alice Cooper). The idea was to record 10 songs with 10 different singers and call the album 10X10. Sadly, Montrose was unable to see the album through during his lifetime. Instead, Phillips made it his mission to finish the songs by enlisting a small army of Ronnie's musician friends to record the vocals and the guitar solos for each song, completing the album in recent years.
Phillips says the songs represent some of Montrose's best work. "His songs still have the fire and angst of a young rebel, but with some added wisdom and foresight voiced in his own unique language of 'guitar-speak.' On 10X10, we hear Ronnie at the top of his game, from the opening crunch guitar of 'Heavy Traffic,' all the way to the closing song, 'I'm Not Lying,' which was Ronnie's tip of the hat to his friend Robin Trower."
10X10 features inspired pairings, like Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen ("Still Singin' With The Band") and singer Sammy Hagar with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather ("Color Blind"). Legendary blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa also showcases his guitar talents on the track "The Kingdom's Come Undone" with Ricky Phillips on vocals. A few artists both sing and play, like Edgar Winter ("Love Is An Art") and Tommy Shaw ("Strong Enough").
Several artists who appear on 10X10 had recorded with Ronnie during his career, like Edgar Winter, who included the guitarist on his 1972 album, They Only Come Out At Night. Sammy Hagar got his start singing with Montrose. Between 1973-75, he recorded two influential albums - Montrose and Paper Money - with the band and toured the world.
More than 40 years later, Hagar was among the first who agreed to help finish Ronnie's final album. "It's valuable to have 10X10 be seen as Ronnie's last work, rather than going and digging up some stuff from his past. This was something he truly had a vision for," says Hagar.1. Heavy Traffic Feat. De La Soul were interrupted just before they could deliver the third volume in their AOI series -- projected to be a DJ album -- to Tommy Boy. (The label
perhaps bailed out from a 15-year relationship precisely because the group was going to release such a commercially bankrupt title, one that was planned
instead to appear on an independent label run by Maseo.) De La Soul quickly realized they couldn't go ahead with the plan after signing their AOI label to
Sanctuary, so they wrote a new record, The Grind Date. Although it may see them settling into a holding pattern, at least the pattern of 2001's AOI: Bionix
is one that any hip-hop fan won't mind hearing repeated. Better yet, it boasts productions from an excellent cast of figures -- partner in crime Supa Dave
West, author of the best tracks on their AOI series, J-Dilla, who's stretching out his patented (read: overdone) sound to embrace classic hip-hop, an only
slightly commercialized Madlib, and young phenom 9th Wonder. Madlib gets what must be the first lead single of his career, a bright, antimaterialist tale
called Shopping Bags (She Got From You) that thumps like a club tune, but lurches as only the Beat Conductor could do it. Verbal Clap finds J-Dilla
allowing some grit into his productions, and Supa Dave only continues floating the most fluidly catchy productions of any rap producer in action.
Meanwhile, De La Soul voices Posdnuos and Dave balance their time breezing easy on bumping message tracks with a few old-school shots that show
them a bit defensive about the passing of time. (Check out Come On Down, a Madlib-produced shot with Flava Flav, or Days of Our Lives featuring
Common.) Without a concept to tout, The Grind Date doesn't gel like AOI: Bionix, but it does show De La Soul keeping everything together more than 15
years after their debut. After all, you certainly wouldn't see MF Doom guesting on a Tone-Loc record. - Review By John BushLP 1
