creation of new material.

Relations In The UnseenAlmost two years after the suprising German chart success of "Hold On, Liberty!", The Intersphere return with a brand new studio album. And instead of relying on formulas or formats, the band have relied completely on their hands an hearts. That being said, The Intersphere are pushing the boundaries of rock music towards new horizons with a pace
and precision seldom found in German bands in the last few years. Under the production acumen of Singer/Guitarist Christoph Hessler and co-producer/mixer Moritz Enders (whose credits include German indie powerhouses Casper, Kraftklub and Madsen), this fourth release in The Intersphere discography was recorded together with Wolfgang Manns at Toolhouse Studios.
"'Relations In The Unseen' is not a concept album, but there is definitely a purveying train of
thought overall. We all communicate, not only directly, but also indirectly through gestures,
body language, thoughts and connections that are unconcious at first," says Christoph Hessler. Lyrically, the album concentrates on these unconcious things that influence our feelings, thoughts and reactions. Every day we're offered countless examples of this - invisible, unknown - over distances, times and dimensions. With "Relations In The Unseen" The Intersphere have succeeded at a return to self - and to the really important things in music.1. Relations In The Unseen

Recycling The Blues & Other Related StuffMastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analog Master Tapes & Pressed at RTI!
American blues musician Taj Mahal, was born Henry Fredericks in New York in 1942. His music is a mix of blues, Caribbean styles, bluegrass and the music of Hawaii, where he lived for a number of years. Originally released in 1972, Recycling The Blues & Other Related Stuff contains seven live tracks and four studio recordings.
Guitar/piano playing rural blues revivalist Taj Mahal was quite a rarity in the late 1960s - a young black man who accurately revived classic country blues for a new generation of listeners. Mahal took an archival interest in folk blues while joining in during the early '60s. On this album, the first seven tracks were recorded live at the Fillmore West and the rest at Columbia's San Francisco studios with backup from the Pointer Sisters. The title Recycling the Blues & Other Related Stuff certainly sums up the album quite well - that's exactly what Taj Mahal has been doing for several years by this point!

Recycling The Blues & Other Related Stuff (Pure Pleasure) (Awaiting Repress)One of the most prominent figures in late 20th century blues, singer/multi-instrumentalist Taj Mahal played an enormous role in revitalizing and preserving traditional acoustic blues. Born as Henry St. Clair Fredericks in New York on May 17, 1942, he moved after graduating in 1964 to Los Angeles and, after making his name on the local folk-blues scene, formed the Rising Sons with guitarist Ry Cooder. Not content to stay within that realm, Mahal soon broadened his approach, taking a musicologist's interest in a multitude of folk and roots music from around the world.
The title Recycling the Blues & Other Related Stuff certainly sums up the album quite well -- that's exactly what Taj Mahal has been doing for several years by this point. The first side features laidback in-the-studio work with some nice gospel-inflected back-up from the Pointer Sisters. The second side offers a good look at Mahal's stage show.

- Howard Johnson (tuba)

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Conch (Introduction)

Relatives In Descent (Pre-Order)After a year of extensive touring in support of 2015's The Agent Intellect, Protomartyr returned to their practice space in a former optician's office in Southwest Detroit. Inspired by The Raincoats' Odyshape, Mica Levi's orchestral compositions, and a recent collaboration with post-punk legends The Pop Group for Rough Trade's 40th anniversary, the band began writing new music that artfully expanded on everything they'd recorded up until that point. The result is Relatives in Descent, Protomartyr's fourth full-length and Domino debut. Though not a concept album, it presents twelve variations on a theme: the unknowable nature of truth, and the existential dread that often accompanies that unknowing. Tonight's The NightBy 1975 Young had written some of the most enduring anthems in rock history. But from the slow, tension-building piano opening of Tonight's the Night, he downshifts into darkness and Crazy Horse's folk-country melodies take on a guttural hum that would eventually speak to generations of punk and grunge musicians.
Inspired by the overdose deaths of two of Young's friends, roadie Bruce Berry and guitarist Danny Whitten, the title track (and its closing reprise) is a hypnotic cry of why? Even the relative party songs, Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown and Roll Another Number, fit the album's bus-to-nowhere resignation. -Steve Knopper1. Tonight's The Night

The Pretty Toney AlbumThere's no Wu Tang Clan MC, outside of Ol' Dirty Bastard, who raps for broke like Ghostface, as if each album might be his last. Ghostface continues this tradition of flipping the most indescribable, gritty, grimy, and painfully honest rhymes imaginable. Ignoring current rap trends--i.e., Kanye West-style sampling and speeding up of old soul loops--Ghostface doesn't mask his samples or up the b.p.m.'s. On the choice cuts Holla and Be This Way, he spits fire over great old-school Delfonics and Billy Stewart samples. Of course this is not surprising considering Ghost often says he doesn't care much for contemporary rap music. His flows magically capture the full range of human emotion on It's Over and the RZA-produced Run. Don't be fooled by the relatively frail single Tush (featuring Missy Elliott) because it's not at all indicative of how strong the album is. --Dalton Higgins1. Intro

Nice An' CoolPart of the ultimate audiophile Prestige stereo reissues from Analogue Productions - 25 of the most collectible, rarest, most audiophile-sounding Rudy Van Gelder recordings ever made. All cut at 33 1/3.
All mastered from the original analog master tapes by mastering maestro Kevin Gray. 200-gram LPs pressed at Acoustic Sounds' state-of-the-art pressing plant, Quality Record Pressings, plated by Gary Salstrom
Deep groove label pressings, tip-on jackets on thick cardboard stock
A 1961 set of standards heavy on the ballads, Nice An' Cool is prime Gene Ammons. In front of a sympathetic piano-bass-drums trio (Richard Wyands, Doug Watkins, and the great J.C. Heard, respectively), Ammons' brilliantly soulful tenor saxophone really stretches out on the familiar melodies, but the relatively concise arrangements (all of the eight tracks are between three and eight minutes, with most hovering around the five-minute mark) don't allow him to wander too far afield as he occasionally does on less structured sessions. Nice An' Cool is first and foremost a mood album, with the unity of sound more important than the individual performances, but Ammons particularly shines on the extended opener, a tender, restrained version of The Music Man's Til There Was You that sidesteps the mawkishness of many interpretations in favor of a dignified grace. The backing trio is excellent throughout.1. Till There Was You

Killed By Deathrock Vol. 1In 2007, Sacred Bones Records founder Caleb Braaten started unearthing rare
and little-heard post-punk, deathrock and dark punk tracks for an eventual
compilation. Seven years later, riffing on the tradition of the internationally
known punk collector series, Killed By Death, those tracks are finally being
released on vinyl, cD and digital formats as Killed By Deathrock Vol. 1. Bands from
all over the world are represented on the comp, from the relatively well-known
Scots in Twisted Nerve to the "completely un-Googleable" Move from Italy.
Also featured are the French band known simply as Bunker on their first demo
tape who later became Bunker Strasse, though still remained largely obscure.
Kitchen and the Plastic Spoons formed as a sort of goof band in Sweden in 1980
and only released a couple of 7-inches before disbanding a year later in 1981.
The rest of the comp represents a vast spectrum of geography with the Us being
represented by Your Funeral, Glorious Din, The Naked and the Dead and
Afterimage. Screaming For Emily (Uk), Baroque Bordello (France) and Taste of
Decay (Germany) round out the collection. What all these bands have in common, apart from their dark, icy atmosphere, is that they're quintessential pieces
of the deathrock story whose music hasn't been heard by nearly enough people

BloodWhen touring for her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? came to a close, Lianne La Havas headed to Jamaica with her mother for a long-awaited holiday that evolved into an experience of self-discovery. She enjoyed emotional reunions with long-lost relatives; embraced Kingston's clubs; and even jammed in front of her family for the first time during a session with legendary dancehall/reggae producer Stephen McGregor. Exploring her roots inspired La Havas's writing. Lyrically, she says, the songs she wrote are almost all related to the feeling of who you are and where you come from. And musically, La Havas took inspiration from Jamaica's love of grooves, rhythms, and syncopation.1. Unstoppable

SolidSolid is a companion piece to the Grant Green classic Matador, recorded about a month later with the same rhythm section, and also not issued until 1979. Green is once again accompanied by the Coltrane supporting team of pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones, plus bassist Bob Cranshaw; this time, however, Green is also joined on the front line by James Spaulding on alto sax and Joe Henderson on tenor. Both saxophonists really seem to light a fire under the proceedings, for in comparison with the relatively subdued Matador, Solid is a bright, hard-charging affair. There's a little modal jazz, but Solid's repertoire is chiefly complex hard bop, full of challenging twists and turns that the players burn through with enthusiasm. Green didn't tackle this kind of material -- or play with this kind of group -- very often, and it's a treat to hear him do so on both counts. The compositions -- highlighted by Duke Pearson's Minor League, Henderson's The Kicker, and a storming, ten-minute exploration of George Russell's Ezz-Thetic -- provoke some intricate improvisations from Green, and his perfectly controlled soloing is an interesting contrast with the passionate Spaulding and Henderson. Tyner and Jones are once again telepathic in their support, elevating the whole package to one of Green's strongest jazz outings and a unique standout in his catalog.Minor League

Meric Long and Logan Kroeber recorded The Dodos new
album, Carrier, in their hometown of San Francisco. After guitarist Chris Reimer passed away in early 2012, The Dodos reassessed everything about the band - in particular Long's songwriting.
"Chris was a huge influence on the way I think about guitar, songwriting, and music in general," reveals Long. "Seeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song."
And so, when he began to formulate the tracks that would ultimately comprise Carrier, Long employed two principles he inherited from Reimer: patience to let a song develop and a judgment-free enthusiasm for sound.
"[T]he melodies are warm and pleasantly rumpled, drummer Logan Kroeber forgoes mundane timekeeping to push and prod Long and in the second half, the two ditch the relative minimalism to hurtle through a breakneck jam of harmonized guitar leads that can be heard as a tribute to a man whose short time with Dodos truly moved them."

Kick Out The JamsRanked 294/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Rather than try to capture their legendary on-stage energy in a studio, MC5 opted to record their first album during a live concert at their home base, Detroit's Grande Ballroom, and while some folks who were there have quibbled that Kick Out the Jams isn't the most accurate representation of the band's sound, it's certainly the best of the band's three original albums, and easily beats the many semiauthorized live recordings of MC5 that have emerged in recent years, if only for the clarity of Bruce Botnick's recording.
From Brother J.C. Crawford's rabble-rousing introduction to the final wash on feedback on Starship, Kick Out the Jams is one of the most powerfully energetic live albums ever made; Wayne Kramer and Fred Sonic Smith were a lethal combination on tightly interlocked guitars, bassist Michael Davis and drummer Dennis Thompson were as strong a rhythm section as Detroit ever produced, and Rob Tyner's vocals could actually match the soulful firepower of the musicians, no small accomplishment. Even on the relatively subdued numbers (such as the blues workout Motor City Is Burning), the band sound like they're locked in tight and cooking with gas, while the full-blown rockers (pretty much all of side one) are as gloriously thunderous as anything ever committed to tape; this is an album that refuses to be played quietly. For many years, Detroit was considered the High Energy Rock & Roll Capital of the World, and Kick Out the Jams provided all the evidence anyone might need for the city to hold onto the title.

A Mi ShabbaA nice mid-'90s release from Shabba Ranks, the defending champion of dancehall at the time. The fare is relatively standard, with some level of gun talk and slackness involved as a common motif. The more notable thing associated with Ranks is the re-elevation of the reggae DJ in the production of sound. Relatively surprisingly, given the heavy levels of cameo appearances employed by his rivals, Ranks only makes use of three supporting vocalists, all from within the dancehall tradition. He enlisted some of the best as far as production is concerned as well, with the vast majority of the tracks produced (and played) by Sly and Robbie, and a couple of spare ones guest produced by Naughty by Nature and Puffy Combs (prior to his real dosage of fame). Not a bad dancehall album at all, heavily infused with hip-hop grooves here and there. For fans of contemporary dancehall (at a relatively low speed), this album should be worthwhile to listen to.

The VoyagerCelebrated California singer songwriter Jenny Lewis returns with The Voyager, which will be released by Warner Bros. Records. This is the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman's third solo album and first in six years, following 2006's Rabbit Fur Coat (with The Watson Twins) and 2008's Acid Tongue.
The Voyager is Lewis' most deeply personal album to date, documenting her struggle to cope following the death of her estranged father in 2010 and the subsequent break-up of Rilo Kiley. The Voyager's rootsy, golden glow comes courtesy of Lewis and the artists she chose to produce various tracks, including Ryan Adams (who, alongside Mike Viola, produced all but three of the tracks), Beck, and Lewis' longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice.
