    Give It Back To You

L.A.-based buzz band The Record Company releases Give It Back to You. The rock/roots trio of Chris Vos (guitar, lead vocals, harmonica), Alex Stiff (bass, guitar, vocals) and Marc Cazorla (drums, piano, vocals) has already been hailed by LA Weekly for making bluesy music that would sound more at home in a sweaty, backwoods Mississippi juke joint.

    At The Rock House

At The Rock House is the first full-length album by Roy Orbison, recorded in 1956 but not released until 1961 by the legendary Sun Record Company. The record showcases Roy Orbison's early work, which falls somewhere between the rock & roll that was happening in mid 50's and the more lush, dramatic sound that he later perfected.

Hank Williams: I Saw the Light: The Unreleased Recordings

At the peak of his career in 1951, Hank Williams recorded 143 songs for the Mother's Best Flour Company. Hank performed with his regular studio band and recorded his hits as well as songs he never recorded commercially anywhere else. From this amazing legacy, Time Life is proud to release the vinyl version of HANK WILLIAMS: I SAW THE LIGHT: THE UNRELEASED RECORDINGS, a historic collection drawn from the very best of the Mother's Best recordings. It's a rare, informal glimpse into the heart and soul of country music's greatest star who passed away on New Year's Day 1953, at age 29.

These recordings give us a deeper insight into Hank's life and music, showing a personality that had never been revealed previously. In this casual setting, it showcases his humor as he jokes with his band and the emcee, his love of music as he talks unguardedly about his favorite songs, and captures him in his prime. These shows are the first truly three-dimensional portrait of one of the giants of American music. What emerges is a full, rounded portrait of Williams at his creative and commercial peak.

You'll get Cold, Cold Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, the Williams-composed gospel classic I Saw the Light and more!

Reissued For The First Time On Vinyl Since It's Original Release

Cut From The Original Stereo Tapes By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Recorded At The Legendary Columbia 30th Street Studios

Winner Of Six Tony Awards Including Best Musical

Pressed And Plated At RTI On 180-Gram Vinyl

Housed In A Stoughton Old Style "Tip-On" Jacket

A biting satire of contemporary lifestyles, Company marked the emergence of Stephen Sondheim as the premier composer-lyricist of his generation. The success of the show, which opened on April 26, 1970 and enjoyed a run of 690 performances, spawned countless imitations of one form or another, and paved the way for the greater realism expressed in musicals since. It also established a creative relationship between Sondheim and producer-director Harold Prince that culminated in some of the best works seen on Broadway in the ensuing years.

This is the first vinyl reissue of this album cut from the original stereo master tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed and plated at RTI. 180-gram vinyl housed in a Stoughton old style "tip-on" jacket.

    Genius Loves Company (10th Anniversary)

Upon its release in 2004, few could have predicted the extraordinary, game-changing effect that Ray Charles' final recording would have on both his career and the industry as a whole. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the legend's milestone recording, Concord/Hear Music will release a special 2LP, 45RPM, 180-gram Vinyl Edition.

One of Charles' most inspirational and historically significant albums, Genius Loves Company captures the genius of the music icon in his last studio recording pairing him with legendary guest artists including Norah Jones, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Elton John, Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt to name a few. The album went on to receive an astounding 8 GRAMMY® Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. To help launch a then-groundbreaking consumer marketing campaign, Genius Loves Company was tapped as the first original release through the Starbucks Hear Music imprint in conjunction with Concord Music Group. Since its release on August 31st, 2004, Genius Loves Company has been certified multi-platinum with worldwide sales in excess of 5 million copies.

Produced by John Burk, Concord Music Group's chief creative officer, and co-produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, Genius Loves Company garnered critical acclaim upon its release. NPR All Things Considered hailed, "It's got flashes of fire you wouldn't expect from such a setting, gems of phrasing that remind you how Ray Charles transformed the wreckage of heartbreak into poignant sound," and Rolling Stone added, "the tone is reverential and warm, as the Genius sings "

"Ray was shocked that these people wanted to sing with him," recalls Ray Charles Foundation president Valerie Ervin. "He just didn't understand the magnitude of where he was in the industry. As weak as he became he made sure he gave his best for every artist that was there for him."

"Ray Charles was one of those rare artists who, throughout his incredible career, had far-reaching impact that forever changed the conventions of popular music as well as the music business," said Concord Music Group chief creative officer John Burk. "Looking back at the last 10 years, it's clear that this album was certainly no exception. We are humbled, honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such a musical giant, and we are eternally grateful to Ray for elevating both Concord Records and Hear Music to new heights, far beyond our wildest dreams ten years ago."

Big Brother & The Holding Company

Sundazed presents the high-definition vinyl reissue of the ultra-rare mono edition of Big Brother & the Holding Companys 1967 debut! Besides being the album that introduced the world to Janis Joplin, Big Brother & the Holding Companys first release stands as one of the classic recordings of 60s rock. Joplin had added her fiery wail to the archetypal Haight-Ashbury acid-rock quintet only months before it entered the studio to make the album, and for the sessions she shares vocal duties with bassist Peter Albin and guitarist Sam Andrew. But, thanks to the LPs raging single, Down on Me, it was immediately clear to radio audiences of the time that the Texas-born singer was a new force to be reckoned with.

In addition to Joplins inimitable blues cry, Big Brothers other key strength lies in the scraping, distorted guitars of Sam Andrew and James Gurley, which are in heavy abundance on such choice cuts as the trippy Light is Faster Than Sound, the punkish Women is Losers, and the groups fuzzy, droning remake of Moondogs All is Loneliness. Cut from the original mono masters, this Sundazed edition adds two scarce single-only sides.

Big Brother & The Holding Company

Six months before becoming an overnight sensation following a blistering set at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, Big Brother and the Holding Company was an unknown group from San Francisco playing a month-long Chicago club engagement. Mutual freind, Chet Helms introduced the band to singer, Janis Joplin and after their gig was cut short, Big Brother and Janis avoided returning to California, signed with the small, struggling jazz label Mainstream Records and cut the three-day recording session that makes up this, their self-titled debut in December of 1966. The set mostly consisted of original songs, with the exception of New York City street musician, Moondog's All Is Loneliness and a more secular arrangement of the gospel standard Down on Me. Despite Joplin's fiery singing style, Big Brother was still the kind of democracy in which Joplin shared vocals with Sam Andrew on the trippy Light Is Faster Than Sound and the more soulful duet Call on Me. Most of the record features Joplin reaching back and channeling her hero, Big Maybelle on songs like the brassy Women Is Losers and the no-nonsense Intruder.

Boddie Recording Company: Cleveland, OH (Box Set)

From 1958 to 1993, Thomas and Louise Boddies industrious Boddie Recording Company issued nearly 300 albums and 45s, recorded 10,000 hours of tape, and remained in operation longer than any other studio, pressing plant, or label group in the history of Cleveland. Long forgotten even by the standards of the chronically overlooked northeastern Ohio music scene, Boddie was a fusion of its owners engineering genius and his limited economic means; its DIY recording studio housed in a humble barn, churned night and day to capture the sounds emanating from Clevelands east side neighborhoods.

The 65 tracks on this 5LP box set represent the best of the Boddies in-house Soul Kitchen, Luau, and Bounty labels, which released an unspoiled treasure trove of kitchen-sink eccentric soul, fuzzbox funk, shoestring doo-wop, and haunted, eerily hook-laden spirituals. Enclosed inside is a mountain of office-styled ephemera: two massive booklets brimming with detail on the Boddies and their artists; extensive notes and scores of unpublished photos; a complete detailed discography folio; reproduced fliers; and a Boddie greeting card, all rendered with the handcrafted charm that was the Boddie hallmark. Call it a self-contained record industry crammed into one box.

Elvis' Golden Records No. 1 (Speakers Corner)

Have we got the lot? The King of Rock'n'Roll certainly didn't need to ask whether his entourage had collected together all their favourite hits. They had gathered them all together - a collection of Golden Records, rather like a selection box of favourite chocolates, greedily swallowed down and enjoyed to the full. And how they loved them all - whether 'complete works' collectors or fans. To this very day, this collection from 1958 is quite set apart from the normal 'best of' collections. It shines out like a precious jewel among mere pebbles. This was the first of four Gold volumes, and it set the standard for those to come. Before any of the immemorable songs came to be included, they had to have sold at least a million copies and won an undeniable and unforgettable reputation as a heart-string plucker. To name a title is more than superfluous. It's quite enough just to listen and enjoy. Whoever wants the ultimate basic Elvis collection can't go wrong here.

    Musicians:

    • Elvis Presley (guitar, vocal)

    • The Jordanaires (vocal)

    • and various bands

Recordings: January 1956 - September 1957 in Hollywood, New York and Nashville in mono

    Production: Steve Sholes

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Soma Records Story: Vol. 3 - A Man's Gotta Be A Man!

The record world was a completely different place in 1965.
Kids wanting to take home a piece of the rock 'n' roll action they frugged to at the Armory dance last weekend or a wild tune they heard the local bossjocks spin on the way home from school, inevitably had to deal with seven-inchers made by independent record labels. The single was the thing in the mid-60's, not the album. In even the hippest big city record emporiums, you could thumb through the entire recorded canon of British Invasion-influenced LPs - no more than a hundred or so - in about five minutes. But, ahhh, those singles. And nobody did them better than the shoebox companies sprouting up like bread mold all over the country, labels who could tap into the best local talent and get their show-stopping songs into the local record shops.

Just about every sector of the US had its own scene, red hot local chart entries that kids three hundred miles away were destined to never hear. And that's why the legendary indie labels - from International Artists in Houston or Autumn in San Francisco to Dunwich in Chicago or Etiquette in Tacoma - and hundreds more just as groovy, are revered today more than ever.

The Soma Record Company of Minneapolis caught the national spotlight by releasing hits from the likes of the Castaways and the Gestures. But Liar Liar and Run, Run, Run are just the tip ofthe iceberg. If you've always suspected that thousands of great singles from the '60s that you've yet to hear are lurking in the bushes, guess what? You're right. Step into the dusty Soma vaults with us - brush aside those cobwebs, if you would - point your flashlight towards the strobelight flickering at the far end of the tunnel and keep walking. When the cool Fender 'n Farfisa sounds finally grab you by the shirt collar, just keep telling yourself: This isn't a dream. It's what I was born to do.

Elvis Presley: Gold Records Vol. 4 (Speakers Corner)

At first sight, it does not look as though Elvis's 31st album was destined to be a hit. But if you take a look at his artistic biography in the year of its release - 1968 - then you will recognise the clever gimmicks that his wide-awake management employed to captivate rock 'n' roll fans when Elvis was somewhat 'stiff in the hips'. In this fourth Gold Edition, a tried and tested method was used to create a new LP: namely, a compilation of single hits from the years 1961 to 1967. The result was just what fans wanted! Alongside sentimental songs such as Love Letters, the tearjerker Lonely Man and the sobbing, heartstring tugging ballad It Hurts Me, we find spirited rock 'n' roll (Witchcraft, Ain't That Loving You Baby) and honky-tonk blues (A Mess Of Blues) in a toned-down 12-beat measure. In contrast, Don't Drag That String Around is cheerful, light and springy and, - for a change - not a blues number.
Then we have the country song Devil In Disguise with its angry lyrics, and the soul title What'd I Say by Ray Charles with an electric sound that is lent by the Rhodes piano. All in all, this LP is a great collection from the grand old days of rock 'n' roll.

This double album is an homage to the Staatskapelle as intended and commissioned by the Thorens company. The Swiss record manufacturer cannot rival the orchestra's 460 years, but at 125 years of age it holds the record as the oldest company of the entertainment industry still in existence. These LPs are meant as a double birthday gift: to ourselves, but above all to our many friends around the world. For friends of Staatskapelle, friends of Thorens and above all, for lovers of good-quality music reproduction. - Heinz Rohrer, Managing Director CEO Thorens Export Company Ltd.

    Women And Children First

Welsh band ANCIENT GREASE played a for that time very trendy heavy blues-rock with a shot of prog. Women and Children First was supposed to appear on the legendary Vertigo Swirl label, but at the last moment, the record company decided otherwise, and so the album was released in summer 1970 on Mercury Records. In the USA it appeared with a different cover artwork. Now here's this cult album back on vinyl for the first time for over 40 years, on 180 gram vinyl. For the first time in gatefold cover. A real gem!

    Little Girl Blue

Little Girl Blue is the debut album by Jazz singer/pianist/songwriter Nina Simone for Bethlehem Records.

It was also released as Jazz As Played in an Exclusive Side Street Club.

Nina was in her mid-20s at the time of this album, and still aspiring to be a classical concert pianist.

She immediately sold the rights for the songs on this album to Bethlehem for $3,000.

In the end, this cost her royalty profits of more than a million dollars.

Simone was dissatisfied by the lack of effort the record company took in promoting her, and after this album she went over for a long relationship with Colpix Records.

    Not Available

While there are a million stories about The Residents, one of the more intriguing concerns the recording of their second LP, Not Available. Early in the career of the band, the theory of obscurity was introduced to them by the German avant-guardist, N. Senada. The plan called for the creation of complete projects that were literally not intended to be heard by anyone other than its creators. The Residents realized the truth in this ideal: that music really was difficult to record without considering the audience. They thought the experience gained by completing such a project would prove worthwhile toward achieving an independent attitude toward music. Not Available was completed in 1974 and stored. Several years later, in 1978, The Residents were severely over schedule on their opus, Eskimo. The record company pulled Not Available from the masters room and released it. Surprisingly, The Residents were not upset by this fact since it in no way violated their original intent.

Live At The Carousel Ballroom 1968

Starting in 1966, Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the
Holding Company became accidental architects of what
would be known as the San Francisco Sound. During that
important cultural watershed quaintly referred to as the
Summer of Love, they provided an unruly, party-tastic link
between the cool, cerebral music of the Jefferson Airplane
and the psychedelic covenant of the Grateful Dead.

LIVE AT THE CAROUSEL BALLROOM 1968 is a previously
unavailable live concert recording of Big Brother and
the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin, recorded
by legendary soundman Owsley Stanley, a/k/a Bear,
who supervised the mastering of this release before his
fatal car accident on March 12, 2011. The release of the
album marks the one-year anniversary of his passing and is
    dedicated to Bear.

This is Bears unique vision how he heard the band live,
and how he wanted to transmit it. From the very speciï¬c
(non)stereo mix, to the cover artwork he commissioned
from Stanley Mouse, to the liner notes written by those
who knew Bear best, this truly is Bears presentation of this phenomenal band and inspirational music.

    Transgressor

Quiet Company's fourth full length record Transgressor is the much anticipated follow up to the critically acclaimed We Are All Where We Belong (2011). Recorded in 14 intense days of live tracking at the state of the art Orb Recording Studios in Austin, TX, the band captured a guitar-driven larger-than-life sound, recruiting producer Matt Noveskey (Blue October, IAMDYNAMITE) and mix engineer Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam, Bowie). Muse's characteristically introspective writing style is in full force as he tells tales of love, despair, pain, and redemption, reflecting on his marriage, from burgeoning young love to a relationship tested through time and life on the road. The result is Quiet Company's most mature, explosive, and exposed collection to date.
