    Lucifer I

Restless creative spirits never sleep and class is eternal. Thus, the timely and welcome return of Johanna Sadonis is only to be expected. Despite the sudden and distinctly premature disintegration of her previous band The Oath in 2014, Johanna's passion for making music that touches the darkest recesses of the soul has blazed on. The result is Lucifer - a new manifestation of the Berlin-based singer and songwriter's extraordinary and potent musical vision.

Although still firmly rooted in the fertile soil first cultivated by Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Blue Oyster Cult, Lucifer exist in a proudly liberated and limitless sonic realm, where the heaviest blues rock is a mere starting point for the band's skyward creative trajectory. Lucifer's instinctive take on the very soul of early heavy metal is the electrified essence of rock'n'roll at its nascent purest. This is Magic Rock - heavy, heartfelt and holistic.

Eschewing the now well-worn clichÉs of the occult rock explosion in favour of a truthful and tempestuous re-imagining of classic 70s proto-metal and turbocharged blues, the two songs on this band's debut seven-inch single crackle and fizz with nascent energy and the compelling conviction of music made for all the right reasons. Boasting a sound that revels in exquisite analogue warmth without ever retreating into some nostalgic ghetto, both 'Anubis' and 'Morning Star' came to life at Candy Bomber studios in Berlin, under the supervision of aural wizard Ingo Krauss, a one-time apprentice of legendary Krautrock producer Connie Plank. With the finest and most unique collection of old school analogue equipment, from tape machines to vintage amps, Candy Bomber provided Lucifer with everything they needed to realize their potent vision.

Lucifer represents the culmination of a spontaneous and intuitive creative mind-meld, wherein their leader's kaleidoscopic focus collides with the heavy soul abandon of earthbound but astrally-inspired musicians at the top of their game. With songs crafted by Johanna and Cathedral legend Gaz Jennings - the first Lucifer release is a mesmerizing glimpse into the sumptuous depths that await us further down the evolutionary trail.

After the release of their debut seven-inch via Rise Above Records in February, Lucifer releases their debut full length, Lucifer I. While Johanna states that this first release does give some indication of the musical direction that this band will pursue, there is a strong sense that these songs are merely a prologue to the much deeper and more substantial body of work to come. Meanwhile, the band intend to hit the road to spread the news of Magic Rock to as many willing sinners as possible. With a solid line-up, a renewed sense of collective purpose and the invigorating effects of creative adrenalin propelling them forward, Lucifer is a glowing advertisement for fresh starts, clarity of vision and the rejuvenative powers of heavy music. Lucifer lives!

GHOST is the name of a devil worshiping ministry, that in order to spread their unholy gospels and, furthermore, trick mankind into believing that the end is ultimately a good thing, have decided to use the ever so popular rock music medium as a way to achieve their ends.

Standing motionless and anonymous beneath the painted faces, hoods and robes which their sect demand, the six nameless ghouls of Ghost deliver litanies of sexually pulsating heavy rock music and romantic lyrics, that glorify and glamorize the disgusting and sacrilegious, with the simple intention to communicate a message of pure evil via the most effective device they can find - entertainment.

In May 2010 Ghost were contracted to a UK based gramophone company called Rise Above Ltd, who swore an oath stating that they will assist the group in the task of spreading their musical blasphemies through formats such as Compact Discs, Long Playing Vinyl Records and Digital Downloading.

The first full length Ghost album Opus Eponymous will be released in October 2010 and it is understood and agreed that Rise Above Ltd will invest money in areas such as magazine advertising and retail marketing and will employ the services of music publicity specialists in order to expose the music of Ghost to the wider public.

Specific attention will be paid to targeting people (research suggests these are most likely to be adolescents) who have a void in their life, perhaps caused by some form of emotional trauma or upset, that can be filled by the music and philosophies of Ghost. In time, these easily manipulated children will come to share the views and goals of the Ghost sect and can prepare their own plans for the downfall of humanity....

    The Oath (Awaiting Repress)

To master the dark and wring compelling creativity from its densest shadows requires vision, belief and, perhaps most importantly, a dash of synchronicity. These are all qualities that ooze from every pore of the debut album by The Oath. A band forged around the fizzing, feral chemistry between Swedish guitarist Linnea Olsson and German vocalist Johanna Sadonis, The Oath represent the wild magic that erupts when two blazing souls collide and fate is sent veering off course by sheer strength of the human will. This is heavy metal at its most mercurial and intuitive.

"I had grown tired with the metal scene in Stockholm, and I wanted to experience something new and get out of my comfort zone," Linnea Olson recalls. "This resulted in me going to Berlin, a city where I had no friends, and just exploring everything that makes it so magical the creative energy, the sense of freedom, and the notoriously dark and debauched nightlife. I played my guitar as usual at home, and riffs started to pile up. By the time summer came, I felt the time was right to start a new band. My best friend Henke put me in touch with Johanna. On her end, she had been looking for a guitarist for a band that she wanted to call The Oath. We had an instant connection. And we looked almost identical."

Having found each other and discovered that their obsessions, desires and musical urges were utterly compatible and swiftly and irrevocably interwoven, Linnea and Johanna set about devising an artistic masterplan. The results of that plan are now primed to emerge, fully-formed and thrumming with primal energy and pristine passion, in the shape of The Oath: a nine-song clarion call that simultaneously recalls the hallowed greats of heavy rock, punk and metal - from Sabbath, Trouble and Angel Witch through to the Stooges and Poison Idea, and further to Mercyful Fate and Danzig - while revelling in new ways to express the spirit of those revered archetypes. Recorded in ten days at Studio Cobra in Stockholm with producer Konie Ehrencrona at the controls and the raging rhythm section of Simon Bouteloup (bass, Kadavar/ex-Aqua Nebula Oscillator) and Andrew Prestidge (Angel Witch/Winters) underpinning Linnea and Johanna's otherworldly hymns to the black, The Oath is a triumph for soul and sonic ceremony, with conviction and integrity bursting from every artfully-crafted riff and ethereal melodic motif.

"We had a die-hard dedication right from the beginning - if not, what's the point?" states Linnea. "As for the master plan, there was none. If things fall into place naturally, you don't need one. We felt that this was our shot, and we needed to go for it. We wanted this album to be primitive and minimalistic in the sense that the sound is fairly raw, and we kept overdubs to a minimal - most of what you hear on the album are live takes. But we also wanted to bring out the melody and richness that is within the songs. And these are all strong songs, which is very important to us."

Veering from the strident grooves and shimmering menace of opener All Must Die to the breakneck, Luciferian clatter of Black Rainbow and on to the spine-tingling grandeur and grime of epic closer Psalm 7, The Oath is anything but just another addition to the modern pseudo-occult rock canon. Instead, it is an extraordinary glimpse into its creators' overpowering charisma and chemistry and a thrillingly, hyper-nourishing dose of authentic, 21st century heavy metal sorcery. With input from In Solitude's Henke Palm - who contributes some "improvised Voivod-style solos", according to Linnea - and logo designed courtesy of Watain's Erik Danielson, this is an album that exudes ageless style and irresistible substance: a potent antidote to the flimsy fripperies of the modern age.

"This album represents Johanna and me and our dedication to our music," Linnea avows. "Everything about this band is about me and her - our relationship to each other, our differences as people and musicians, and the unity that we are in The Oath. She possesses strengths that I lack and the other way around. Musically, my riffs are the dirt and her vocals, the diamonds. I have a friend who cleverly put that the world is made up by two kinds of people: the werewolves and the vampires. By that standard, I am a werewolf and Johanna is a vampire. You can interpret that as you like."

And now, this new ritual begins. The Oath has been sworn, the dice have been thrown. All that remains is the propagation of the divine but unholy art that these sisters-in-sound have wrenched from the depths of their harmonised psyches. The future belongs to those who believe

"There are a lot of hopes, plans and ambitions," Linnea concludes. "But what's even more important is that there is only now and that now is forever."

    Live On Fire (Awaiting Repress)

Colored Triple Vinyl Set of This Amazing Live Show!

Despite having planned his career meticulously over the past 25 years or so, even in the camp of German hard rock master Axel Rudi Pell surprises cannot be ruled out: Before playing in front of a sold-out Cologne crowd on the second leg of his wildly successful Circle Of The Oath tour, the opportunity arose for taping the whole show, with cameras being all over. Well, Axel gave it a try. And that was a good move. Ten years after his last live album Knights Live (2002), you can - again - be a witness of a complete concert from the Bochum-based guitar virtuoso and his German-American all-star band. To round out the Axel Rudi Pell live package, the recording of the co-headlining gig at last year's Rock Of Ages festival was added to Live On Fire, the name of his newest live oeuvre.

Obviously, a live album doesn't have the same importance and significance as a new studio output, but it nevertheless is a perfect snapshot in time, because 2012 was the most successful year in Axel Rudi Pell's solo career by far. Circle Of The Oath, album No. 14, was released on March 23 and rode high on the charts all over Europe: in his homeland Germany, the critically acclaimed disc made it up to No. 16 in the first week, Switzerland welcomed good old Axel on No. 30, Austria on No. 55, Norway on No. 69 and in Sweden he went up to No. 51. And last but not least, he received another gold award for selling out three consecutive nights at the famous Zeche venue in his native Bochum. Apart from that, he rocked the summer crowds at the legendary Sweden Rock and Wacken Open Air festivals, as well as the open-air Rock Of Ages in Germany together with his band.

Even though Axel loves the composing part at home and the recording business in the studio, home is where the heart is and that's being on stage. Being musically socialized in the Golden Age of hard rock (the Seventies) he's probably a bigger fan of live albums than he would admit. As they say: applause is the performer's meat and drink. But without sometimes being anarchistic spontaneously and playing with the audience's emotions, without the sweat coming off the ceiling and the priceless energy being trapped in the middle of an adventure that is called live concert, when the lights go down and every amp is on fire - the life of a true rocker would be incomplete. Speaking of which: besides his success, Axel Rudi Pell has always been that down-to-earth guy and mainly the fan he was turned into when he first heard DEEP PURPLE's Fireball back in the day. With Live On Fire, he accomplishes a long-desired wish and gives his fans what they desperately want for quite some time.

No surprise at all that the main focus is set on the newbies: here's the striking chords of fast and furious opener Ghost In The Black, the hard rocking pounding of Before I Die and without a doubt one of Axel's best songs written in a decade: the brilliant Circle Of The Oath, which would make Jimmy Page cry out loud. But there's more to listen to on Live On Fire: the passion for medleys (The Masquerade Ball/Casbah/Dreaming Dead) combined with some all-time classics here and there (ZEPPELIN's Whole Lotta Love or PURPLE's Mistreated).

    Farmer's Corner

Following the critically acclaimed Blood Oaths of the New Blues, James Jackson Toth a.k.a Wooden Wand decided to try something different: instead of spending a week in a studio with the same people, the same engineer, the same equipment and the same state of mind, he would record in fits and starts, whenever - and wherever - he felt like it. Over six sessions in four studios spanning three states, he began amassing tracks. Toth then chose his favourites for Farmer's Corner, which is, remarkably, the very first self-produced Wooden Wand album. Aided on the majority of the tracks by bassist Darin Gray (On Fillmore, Jim O'Rourke, Grand Ulena ), and guitarists William Tyler (Lambchop, Silver Jews, Yo La Tengo) and Doc Feldman. The result reflects Toth's omnivorous musical and narrative obsessions. The arrangements - think Little Feat covering Harvest Moon - only serve to highlight his capabilities as both a songwriter and storyteller. The collected songs form an easy entry into the ever-growing Toth output, where outlaws on the run, epic landscapes, endless travels, agitated insomniacs and ditch-digging memory-evaders lurk behind every turn.

Every band with the tag "extreme metal" owes a debt of gratitude to Suffocation, period. As the creators of brutal death metal their influence can be felt far and wide. Every break down, every blast beat, and every technical riff (before Nintendo noises were introduced to guitar playing) was done by Suffocation first and frankly better. Four years have passed since the release of Blood Oath, all the while the band laid silently waiting, gathering their energy until the time was right for them to return in a vicious blaze of glory. That long awaited day has finally come in the form of the monolithicly devastating, Pinnacle of Bedlam. The record marks the return of one-time drummer Dave Culross and sees the band upping the brutality and speed quotient, picking up where Despise the Sun and Pierced From Within left off. Produced by the band once again with Joe Cincotta (Internal Bleeding, Criminal Element), and mixed and mastered this time by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Arsis, Agnostic Front), the quintet has never sounded this clear or well brutal. Make no mistake, Suffocation is once again fully invigorated, seeing red and out for blood.

Featuring The Title Track Tear Up This Town By Keane

A Monster Calls is a fantasy drama film about a boy seeking the help of a tree monster to cope with his single mom's terminal illness. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.

The film is directed by J.A. Bayona who was inevitable praised for his previous directing work The Orphanage.

The critics site Rotten Tomatoes reports an approval rating of 85% for the film, based on 52 reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10. The site reads, A Monster Calls deftly balances dark themes and fantastical elements to deliver an engrossing and uncommonly moving entry in the crowded coming-of-age genre.

The intriguing Score for the film is composed by Fernando Velázquez, who already had experience in the world of cinema and especially in the terror genre. He composed films like Devil, written & produced by M. Night Shyamalan, and the Guillermo del Toro-produced feature The Orphanage.

In 2010 he was one of eleven selected composers to create symphonic works for the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. In the same year Film Music Magazine rated his score to 'Devil' as one of the best scores of the year, quoting Velazquez's brassily orchestral ambitions pay more of a blood oath to Bernard Herrmann and James Newton Howard, with the kind of churning, melodically rich symphonic sound that makes DEVIL's mostly elevator-bound setting anything but claustrophobic.

Two years later Film Music Magazine ranked his score to 'The Impossible' as one of the Top 10 scores of the year.

    Antisocialites

Antisocialites is the much-anticipated follow-up to Alvvays' 2014 self-titled debut. Across its 10 tracks and 33 minutes the Toronto-based group dive back into the deep end of reckless romance and altered dates. Through thoughtful consideration in basement and abroad, Alvvays has renewed its Scot-pop vows with a powerful new collection of manic emotional collage.

The album opens with the excellent strum-'n-thrummer 'In Undertow,' a hi-amp breakup fantasy that is both crushing and charming for its level-headedness. You find a wave and try to hold on for as long as you can, you made a mistake you'd like to erase and I understand, sings Rankin, her voice full longing not for another person necessarily, but for what to do next. Meditate, play solitaire, take up self-defense, Molly continues, laundry-listing some strategies for moving on. What's next for you and me? I'll take suggestions, she deadpans under crashing waves of feedback and Farfisa.

Replete with more songs about drinking ('Forget About Life,' 'Hey'), drugging ('Lollipop (Ode To Jim)'), and drowning ('Already Gone'), Antisocialites is a multipolar period piece fueled by isolation and loss. Perversely enjoyable dark drama springs from Rankin's phonetic twists, quick-sung rhymes and irreverent syllable-play. So morose for me, seeing ghosts of me, writing oaths to me, the self-described introvert sings on the Cocteau-pop stunner 'Dreams Tonite,' the song from which the album's name is derived. In fluorescent light, antisocialites watch a wilting flower.

Antisocialites details a world of ice cream truck jingles and radiophonic workshop noise, where Rankin's shining wit is refracted through crystalline counterpoint. 'Not My Baby' is a centerpiece, a meditation on the rapture of escape following the sadness of separation. Elsewhere, 'Plimsoll Punks' is the band's answer to Television Personalities' 'Part-Time Punks' and a winking surf opus indictment of the self-righteous who intend to condescend. Molly wrote the rapid-fire sugar stream 'Lollipop (Ode to Jim)' after singing 'Just Like Honey' with Jesus and Mary Chain. 'Your Type' is a beautiful primitive stomp about running around Paris with vomit on your feet post-Louvre ejection.

The record concludes with a movement that is at once stark and celebratory. On 'Forget About Life,' the apartment stands in disarray as undrinkable wine is inhaled: When the failures of the past multiply and you trivialize the things that keep your hand from mine, did you want to forget about life with me tonite? The resonant freaks in Rankin's tales don't find much resolve, but with equal doses of black humor and heartstring-tugging, Antisocialites rings a truer tone.

Assault on Precinct 13 / The Fog

12 Housed In Deluxe Mylar Mirrorboard Sleeve

Much of the power of the best films by the cult director John Carpenter can
be attributed to their use of music - music that, more often than not, was
composed and performed by Carpenter himself. What began as a necessity for
the low-budget productions by Carpenter became a major part of his aesthetic,
and established him as a pioneering figure in genre-film score work as well as
electronic music in general. Now, flanked by his son Cody Carpenter and godson
Daniel Davies, and with two albums (Lost Themes and Lost Themes II) of nonsoundtrack
material under his belt, Carpenter has decided to revisit some of his
    most beloved themes.

Assault on Precinct 13 was the first feature film Carpenter made after film school,
and he made it partially as an urban reimagining of Rio Bravo, a film by his idol,
Howard Hawks. In Carpenter's movie, a soon-to-be-closed police precinct is
placed under siege by a gang who have taken a blood oath to kill someone inside.
Assault is a classic, not least of all because it has perhaps Carpenter's best-loved
theme. The theme's main synthesizer line, partly inspired by the score to Dirty
Harry and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," is catchy and dread-inducing in
    equal measure.

Carpenter's theme for The Fog is one of his finest, and creepiest. In the film, a
weather-beaten old fisherman tells an ancient tale of betrayal and death to fascinated
children as they huddle together by their campfire. As a piece of driftwood
in a child's hands glows with spectral light, an eerie fog envelops the bay, and
from its midst emerge dripping demonic victims of a century old shipwreck,
seeking revenge. The spooky synthesizer tone in Carpenter's composition evokes
the advance of the fog itself, helping to make this a quintessential horror score for
    a classic horror movie.

This 12 release includes the themes to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog, newly
rerecorded by Carpenter and his Lost Themes bandmates. May it serve as a bridge
between the Horror Master's legendary, still relevant past and his remarkable
    present.

Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon (Out Of Stock)

Known for their uniquely brooding sound that frequently conjures desolate imagery, on Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon Murder By Death capture a familiar tone but also explore new territory, adding a further refined sophistication and even richer, full-bodied sound. The varied album ranges musically from the spooky and spare opener "My Hill", to the rough, rousing sing-along "Hard World", to the booming, aching waltz of "Ghost Fields." Songs like the cinematic "Lost River" start hushed before rising to a lush crescendo, while "No Oath, No Spell" maintains a dramatic, bluesy swing, and first single "I Came Around" rumbles and rollicks with a hard-charging, barroom flair. Singer Adam Turla's cavernous baritone tells shadowy small-town stories throughout, the songs' oftentimes-upbeat veneer belying a sordid undercurrent.

Across Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon Sarah Balliet's sonorous cello and Scott Brackett's multiple instruments (backing vocals, piano, trumpet, and accordion, to name a few) weave irreplaceable accents, and Dagan Thogerson's robust drums and Matt Armstrong's inventive bass lines create a resounding low end.

Murder By Death wrote Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon - their first album featuring contributions from Brackett (formerly of Okkervil River and Shearwater)- throughout most of 2011, testing and reworking the songs in Turla's basement-turned-practice-space. In January, they traveled to Dallas, TX to record with producer John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, St. Vincent, Black Mountain) over three weeks.
