    Electric Peace

Electric is the pivotal third album by The Cult. Released in 1987, the album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band from a Gothic rock to a hard rock band. Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric, had been specifically hired to remake the band's sound in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of hard rock and heavy metal in the 1980s. The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

After the breakthrough success of their second album, Love, the Cult began working on a follow-up with producer Steve Brown. In the summer of 1986, they recorded twelve tracks at the Manor Studio in Oxfordshire. These recordings, which came to be known as the Manor Sessions, were to make up a new album, tentatively entitled Peace. However, upon completion of the recording sessions, the band decided that they were unhappy with the sound, and began to look for a new producer.

The band went on to choose Rick Rubin, who was known for producing albums for hip hop artists and thrash metal band Slayer. These new recordings, with a slightly different track-list and running order, became the album that was released.
Although all twelve of the Manor Sessions tracks were initially scrapped, four of them would turn up as B-sides to singles from Electric. A further five of them appeared on a limited edition EP, and with the release of Rare Cult in 2000, the rest of the unreleased Steve Brown-produced tracks were made available.

Pure Cult Singles Compilation (Awaiting Repress)

Released domestically for the first time, remastered and with reworked art. Pure Cult is a definitive compilation, bringing together all of The Cult's singles such as She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman and more.

The Cult, unlike its predecessor bands the Southern Death Cult and the Death Cult, was unapologetic about its mainstream rock & roll aspirations, which makes Pure Cult the best possible starting place for the group. The Cult was a singles band, and a pretty great one, too, as evidenced by the Stones-like Love Removal Machine and the blazing Fire Woman.

The ensemble's mixture of '60s influences and hard-rock power helped define a whole subset of the late-'80s alternative-rock scene, and it's fair to say that groups like Stone Temple Pilots owed at least some of their success to the Cult's early flirtations with the rock mainstream. Pure Cult gives a good sense of the band's surprisingly organic shift in sound, ranging from the gothy neo-psychedelia of She Sells Sanctuary to the sneering rock of Star.

    It's Love

Stockholm cult heroes The Legends continue their accidental career with It's Love, their first album in six years. It's love details a recent chapter in the life of frontman Johan Angergård that saw him wrestle with loss and identity. Turning 40 brought with it unexpected emotional distance from things that once mattered very much. Suddenly, his role as Labrador Records label boss was no longer important to him, nor was his relationship with someone whom he shared a large chunk of his life. These swirling emotions conspired to spur an abrupt creative streak, producing It's Love in a span of four months. As expected, the material is heartbreaking and selfaware, reflecting the arduous inner workings of Johan's journey - but it's also buoyant and lush, expressing the resilient human spirit.

    Love Will Prevail

Sean Ragon has been active in the DIY punk, industrial and experimental music communities on the east coast for over 15 years. Ragon also runs a record store and label in Brooklyn (Heaven Street and Blind Prophet Records, respectively). He has been recording under the moniker of Cult of Youth for the last five years.

Cult of Youth's last album produced by Chris Coady was a huge leap forward for the band, which had expanded to a four piece. It landed them on tours with Zola Jesus, Cold Cave and Iceage last summer and caused quite a stir not only among more indie-centric press outlets such as Pitchfork and Stereogum but with underground publications such as Heathen Harvest and Special Interests magazine as well.

For this album Ragon built his own recording studio from scratch in the back of his record store. This allowed him to control every aspect of the album and to take his time recording; in addition to vocals, he plays five different instruments on Love Will Prevail (electric and acoustic guitar, trombone, synth, and bass). He also engineered and mixed the entire album by himself.

For long time fans of the project, Love Will Prevail sees the marriage of the spontaneity of the earlier releases with the better recording quality of the more recent eponymous LP. This record features contributions from Glenn Maryansky on drums and Christiana Key on violin as well as percussion from the enigmatic Ning Nong and female vocals from former Battletorn vocalist (and Sean's long term girlfriend) Beverly Hames.

Love Will Prevail expands on the psychedelic neofolk foundation of the early work and adds lush atmospheres not dissimilar from Austrian post-industrial futurists Nový Svt (or even the more haunting side of late-60s Miles Davis). There is also an intentional nod to the Crass Records bands that influenced Ragon as a teenager and a tasteful hint of Velvet Underground worship.

The lyrical content is also fairly politically charged this time around, and serves as a plea for peace in a world gone mad. A far cry from the first self released single, Train To Kill, perhaps. The first single, "Man and Man's Ruin" finally realizes the majestic beauty that has always been bubbling under the surface of Ragon's work. Love Will Prevail is by far and away Cult of Youth's crowning achievement and it is the true embodiment of DIY idealism.

    I Love You, Go Easy

2007's I Love You, Go Easy finds Virginia-raised/Berlin-based artist Devon Sproule going back to her roots and place of birth, Ontario, Canada, where she teamed up with Canadian producer Sandro Perri, and backing band The Silt. The Silts experimental-pop influence suits Sproules new material remarkably well here, as it does on the well-chosen covers Bodys in Trouble by the Toronto-native and cult heroine Mary Margaret OHara and Runs in the Family by The Roches. Love Can Change Everything: Demos 1967-1972

Hollywood's Sunset Strip was fertile breeding ground for folk-rock songwriters on the make during the mid-'60s. One of these kids with an acoustic guitar jumped right into a historically important album project within weeks of his arrival. Michael Fennelly quickly became one-seventh of The Millennium, who produced Begin, a lush audio carpetorium of an album that found a cult audience upon its reissue thirty years later. After the Millennium shattered, Fennelly jumped directly into his next effort, the power pop legends Crabby Appleton. The group managed to crack the American Bandstand market with"Go Back," a big hit on the charts and a prized fave among pop collectors today. Love Can Change Everything: Demos 1967-1972 charts the development of Fennelly as a songwriter.

Starting with his earliest demos produced during the Millennium era and closing with stripped-down renditions of his Crabby Appleton songs, Love Can Change Everything makes the argument for Fennelly as a power-pop legend, a man whose way with a melody and a crystal-clear voice earned him a deserved spot in the LA pop pantheon. None of this material has ever appeared before, in any format - Love Can Change Everything is a true lost classic in the making. Featuring liner notes from legendary pop writer Domenic Priore and detailed track notes from Michael Fennelly himself!

    Gold Colored Vinyl

Started out as a '77 punk-influenced band back in 1981, legendary Boston thrash-corers Psycho constantly evolved through the years, playing faster and faster with each new release. It wasn't until their 1988 masterpiece, You Love Us... You Hate Us that they fully embraced the 50-second-song, D.R.I./Heresy-styled, bandana thrash formula, conceiving one of the most important 'cult' classics of the whole 80's hardcore era. Licensed from Johnny's X own Ax/ction label, and reissued on beautiful gold vinyl just like the original version, with original inner sleeve repro in a limited 500 copy edition, Radiation Reissues is proud to bring back to vinyl the 12 minutes of 100% raging hardcore fury that made history!

Ode to Dawn Wiener: Embarrassing Love Songs

2013 Cult-Classic Album Available For The First Time On Vinyl

Nicole Dollanganger has been quietly crafting her own world since 2012. Over a number of self-released
albums recorded mostly in her own bedroom and bathroom, her signature style of gothic folk is inspired by
countless influences, none more than the archetype of the love song. Dollanganger's signature lyricism is
front-and-center - usually accompanied by barely more than a few lonesome chords, narratives are idyllic,
yet haunting - dream-like, yet startlingly real.

Run For Cover Records will be reissuing two early-yet-masterful pieces of Nicole Dollanganger's
catalog on vinyl: 2013's Ode To Dawn Wiener: Embarrassing Love Songs & 2014's Observatory
Mansions. The thesis of "Ode to Dawn Wiener" is as straightforward as its subtitle, but over ten songs
it becomes clear that there is much more to these songs than what they offer at the surface. "Observatory
Mansions" shows Nicole's songwriting progressing, with reverb-soaked guitars, echoing synths & stirring
samples coming together only to intensify the pull of her stories of love, violence, sexuality and death - all
of which would be horrifying if they weren't so enchanting - a recurring yet poetic tension in Nicole Dollanganger's
    world.

    With Loving And Open Arms

THE CAUSEY WAY IS NOT A CULT. They wish they were, but they are not. Sure, they are building a compound in a remote and undisclosed place, outside of Gainsville, Florida.(oops) Sure they offer Causey Blood (vegan) in communion cups before their services. And, of course, concert goers are encouraged to fill out membership nametags at their concerts. And it goes without saying that they're more than merely terrified about Y2K. But they are not a cult. They can't be because Alternative Tentacles Records can't sign cults; they're supposed to sign bands.

Causey formed the band in 1997. His requisites were stringent in recruiting his flock. The future parishoners were not allowed to have been in a band - not in their current life nor in prior lives. They made one exception though, they allowed Boy Causey to join the band. Boy, aka Brian, you see, is currently in a ROCK N ROLL band called Man Or Astroman? as well as serving in Servotron. Causey, believe it or not, used to be a professional skateboarder using the phony last name Stanton. He used to defy gravity with corporate sponsorship emblazoned upon his bosom (in interviews he would explain it was the closest feeling approximating that of walking on water) when one day he landed on his nose and finally saw the light. This revelation changed Causey. He wanted to start anew, he suddenly felt a greater purpose. He needed to remain true to his new self while at the same time start something new & exciting and not merely regurgitate putrid bile like some old Linda Blair movie. He dreamed that his followers would release doves in asking for an encore, rather than lighting lighters. He had a mission, and the mission was THE CAUSEY WAY.

Shortly after this period Jello Causey received a care-package from THE CAUSEY WAY. It contained a digital testament of their musical sacrifices, and some thoughtful Y2K preparedness items such as generic bleach, generic toothpaste, and enough cotton swabs to clean out an entire chapel-full of ears. Shortly after receiving the package, he quickly filled out his membership nametag, and the rest is history. (Jello has adamantly denied journalists' claims that he was 'brainwashed'.) It was exactly the type of new 'testament' wave, and pulpit punk that was missing in his life. (Some heathen have made references to Devo due to the presence of keyboards.)

Jello wasn't the only soul converted. Rain Phoenix (sister of late River Phoenix) quickly signed up and did penance by singing background vocals on With Open and Loving Arms. One openly famous musical celebrity superstar, Michael Stipe of the rock quartet REM, was so healed upon experiencing THE CAUSEY WAY service, that he invited the pulpit back to his house for a serving of grits to show his gratitude. The band declined.

Prior to their debut full-length sermon With Open and Loving Arms, THE CAUSEY WAY released an ep by the name of WWCD (that rose to #30 on CMJ's charts) and released an ep called Testimony for the skankedly trendy label Fueled By Ramen.(Less Than Jake's label) before releasing their latest one Causey vs. Everything on Alternative Tentacles in January 2001.

Two years after the split of Bauhaus in 1983, former members Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins came together to form Love and Rockets. The band developed a cult following in the late 1980s, deviating from Bauhaus' signature gothic sound and experimenting with pop and psychedelics. Express was the follow up to their debut record, Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven (also available on Drastic Plastic Records). Released in 1986, this record took on a stronger pop feel, while remaining incredibly atmospheric and introspective.

    Hidden City

When Rolling Stone hailed THE CULT as "the Messianic moment of Coachella" in 2014, few knew that their next release would be unveiled in the form of HIDDEN CITY, their tenth studio album (and second for Cooking Vinyl).

The final instalment in a trilogy of recordings, completing 2007's Born Into This (The Fall) and 2012's Choice of Weapon (Dark Night of the Soul), Hidden City is a tightly-woven series of experience and visions with underlying themes of redemption and rebirth threaded through The Cult's visceral music. Astbury's signature baritone and blood-soaked lyrics paired with Duffy's smouldering, textured guitar tones, create a musical environment that is fearless and peerless.

From the sonic assault of the opening track Dark Energy, Hidden City launches quickly into the dark underbelly of its subject matter. Stemming from the Spanish phrase "La Ciudad Oculta" or "hidden city," the album reflects an awakening of consciousness through its tone and complexity. "Hidden City is a metaphor for our spiritual lives our intimate interior lives," explains Astbury. "I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."

Produced by Bob Rock and written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy the team has collaborated on what has turned out to be the brutal and beautiful masterpiece Hidden City.

The Cult have revealed in a storied career. From the iconic Love album bursting with idealism to the dystopia of 2001's Beyond Good & Evil to the current seductive Hidden City, the band lives their art. A new chapter dawns for The Cult as the future unfolds The Cult will respond. It's what they do.

Black Beauty, the never-before-released masterpiece by Arthur Lee's legendary psychedelic rock band Love, is available on 180-gram vinyl LP. Recorded in 1973 for the ambitious new label Buffalo Records,
the album remained unreleased when the company folded. Finally, after 39 years High Moon Records is honored to fulfill Arthur Lee's wish that Black Beauty be heard by music fans worldwide. Black Beauty is making its first-ever official release
in any format, anywhere! With unparalelled sound and state-of-the-art packaging, critics are hailing Black Beauty as an instant classic. Black Beauty is that rarest of rock artifacts: an unreleased,
full-length studio album, from an undisputed musical
genius. Black Beauty is the missing link in a catalog that includes Forever Changes, the classic 1967 Love album the New York Times called "one of the most affecting and beguiling albums of all time. With Black Beauty, Arthur Lee manages to combine searing 70's-rock with gorgeous melodies and stellar songwriting - topped off by his most distinctive, snarling, soulful vocals ever. With its wonderfully eclectic collection of songs, the
album offers Love fans a rare glimpse into a previously undocumented phase of Arthur Lee's fabled career, while shining a light for new fans to discover the unique genius that is the music of Arthur Lee and Love.

It's tempting to play what-if with Love's lost labor, Black Beauty, which was recorded in 1973 but shelved for nearly four decades. What if Buffalo Records hadn't gone out of business just prior to the album's release? What if Black Beauty had actually hit stores? What if it hadn't languished in limbo until years after Arthur Lee's death? Would it have stopped Love's slide into obscurity? Would it have signaled a comeback for the man who masterminded Forever Changes, still one of the most complex and compelling artifacts of 1960s Los Angeles? Would his life and career have played out any differently? Would we think of him today as something other than a cult artist, inspired as well as damned by his era?

It's difficult to imagine any answers to those questions, but it says a lot about Lee that the album even raises these what-ifs and coulda-beens. The very qualities that made him such a fascinating voice-- restlessness, excitability, paranoia, perfectionism, single-mindedness-- may have doomed any commercial prospects more than his notorious fear of travel ever did. After recording Forever Changes, he fired the band and hired new musicians to take their places. Every subsequent album featured a different line-up, although the changes seem based more on personality than on musical direction or ability. Never stagnant, Love was in constant flux, always in a state of development but never quite arriving. So the operative question becomes: Was this the version of Love that Lee had been working toward?

For Black Beauty-- which is finally seeing release via High Moon Records, although the reissue has been delayed for two years-- Lee assembled guitarist Melvan Whittington, bass player Robert Rozelle, and drummer Joe Blocker. This may be the hardiest and most muscular of Love's post-Changes rosters, with remarkable force and range. With crisp production by Paul Rothchild, best known for his work with the Doors, Love build from a potent blues rock foundation not dissimilar to that of Jimi Hendrix, but without the distracting shamanistic persona and guitar pyrotechnics. "Walk Right In" struts into country rock territory, rewriting Cannon's Jug Stompers 1929 hit into a plea for empathy, and "Beep Beep" attempts a sort of pop reggae, albeit not entirely convincingly.

On the whole, this particular line-up sounds perfectly rough and unrehearsed, generating a tense energy on "Skid" and "Stay Away" even as they suggest a band still figuring out exactly what they can do together. It's a strong album, but it's not another Forever Changes, whose accomplishments in retrospect were unrepeatable, or even another Four Sail. On the other hand, Lee wasn't aiming to craft something in that vein. Still, especially considering the professional setbacks he had faced in the years leading up to Black Beauty-- which includes being dropped by Elektra and shuffling through a series of independent labels-- Lee sounds engaged and invigorated, forgoing the bitterness that had rankled the band for a slightly more hopeful outlook. On stand-out "Can't Find It", he sings, "Every time I cry my heart out, and every time I play the fool, but there's gotta be something in this lonely world for me." The confession is all the more bittersweet for being capped with the line, "but I can't find it without you." It's ostensibly a love song, but could just as easily be addressed to his audience. His creative satisfaction relies on having a listener to complete the circuit, which makes this album's long shelf life all the sadder.

Cults made their name in black and white. A pair of film school dropouts who burst onto the New York scene with a perfect single and a darkly retro sound, the band's first two albums play like noirish documentaries on a lost girl group. Four years after Static, Cults returns with Offering, an exciting collection of songs bursting with heart, confidence, shimmering melody and buzzing life. The time off has given the band new energy and new ideas--Cults are working in Technicolor now. The core duo remains the same. Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, both 28, still live in New York. They still finish each other's thoughts and still share a love of catchy music and black humor. But the pair have put some blood on the tracks since their breakout debut: they've toured the world, built a devoted audience, survived a breakup, grown up in green rooms, parted ways with their old label and made a home of their new one. Offering is the work of two artists who know what they want and how to make it happen.

SOME GIRLS WANDER BY MISTAKE, a title taken from a Leonard Cohen lyric, and the title for the album that comprises the earliest days of The Sisters of Mercy's career, before signing to WEA in 1984. Featuring everything from their very first single, 1980's 'The Damage Done', debuted on the band's own Merciful Release label, through their early indie rise to cult acclaim with 'Alice', 'Temple of Love' and The Reptile House EP.

Continuing the series of 'era' box set releases, we will be compiling these Merciful Release recordings into the 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake' box for release this September; featuring the original album, on 180g double LP, plus two 12 singles taken from that era Temple of Love (1992) and Under the Gun. The 12 EPs will also include the 1992 version of 'Temple Of Love' featuring Ofra Haza, the Canadian Club Mix of 'Vision Thing' (their final official recording), 'Under The Gun' featuring Terri Nunn of Berlin fame plus a 1993, re-recorded version of 1982's 'Alice'.

    No Help Coming

No Help Coming is the fourth full-length release by Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs, and the latest of nearly 30 albums on which the veteran indie icon is featured. As much as her work has evolved over the years, the London-born, Georgia-based singer/guitarist has maintained a fierce fidelity to the same raw DIY musical principles that first established her as a seminal influence upon multiple generations of garage combos and lo-fi artists. Her current outfit, Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs, is a stripped down duo that teams her with Texas-bred multi-instrumentalist and longtime collaborator Lawyer Dave, who contributes guitar, drums and backing vocals.

On No Help Coming, Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs continue to make music that's spare and earthy yet unfailingly tuneful, drawing upon gritty blues, country and rockabilly influences while maintaining an unmistakable personal resonance. The 12-song set, recorded in the twosome's adopted home state of Georgia, features such notable originals as The Rest Of Your Life, You're Under Arrest, Get Out of My House and the swaggering title track, which packs as much of a musical and emotional punch as anything they've ever recorded.

No Help Coming also continues Golightly's longstanding tradition of putting her stamp on unexpected cover material, with personalized reading of country legend Bill Anderson's The Lord Knows We're Drinking, the mysterious Mr. Undertaker's 1955 rhythm-and-blues cult classic Here Lies My Love, and Wendell Austin's vintage psycho-country epic L.S.D. Hole's debut album, originally released by Caroline in 1991, was produced by Kim Gordan and Gumball frontman Don Fleming. Pretty On The Inside was named Album of the Year by The Village Voice and the only singe released, Teenage Whore, entered the U.K. indie charts at #1. Graphic lyrics, distorted guitar riffs, screaming vocals and messy punk ethics all helped establish Courtney Love's long running cult status. Here on 180 gram vinyl.
