    Fearless (Platinum Edition)

Contains Hit Single Love Story Plus Extra Songs Not Included In The Original Release

Fearless is Taylor Swifts second studio album and international debut. The album was originally released on November 11, 2008, by Big Machine Records. (the platinum version later re-leased in 2009 with extra songs) As with her debut, Swift wrote or co-wrote all thirteen tracks on Fearless. Most of the songs were written as the singer promoted her debut album as opening act for numerous country artists. Due to the unavailability of collaborators on the road, eight songs were self-penned by Swift. Other songs were co-written with Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, Colbie Caillat, and John Rich. Swift also made her debut as a record producer, co-producing all songs on the album with Nathan Chapman.

    Red

For the last two years, I've been working on an album called Red, Taylor says. I called it Red because of the tumultuous, crazy adventures in love and loss that it chronicles. In my mind, when you experience love that's fast paced and out of control and mixes infatuation, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, and all of those lovely emotions...in retrospect, it all looks red.

After writing her last album (Speak Now) entirely by herself, for this record Taylor collaborated with several artists, producers, and songwriters she had always wanted to work with for the album's 16 tracks, including the lead single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. While Nathan Chapman serves as the lead producer, a variety of producers were involved in the recording process. Swift co-wrote the album with people from all different places in music. Collaborators include Dan Wilson, Butch Walker, Max Martin and Ed Sheeran.

Rolling Stone has described the album as Swift's most eclectic set ever, ranging from 'State of Grace,' a howling, U2-style epic with reverb-drenched guitars, to a sweet acoustic duet with U.K. singer Ed Sheeran. Another key track even features a dubstep-inspired bass breakdown. The album's lead single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, was released in August 2012. The song became Swift's first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, recording the highest ever one-week sales figures for a female artist.

    Swift

Marco Benevento is used to doing things for himself. Since launching his solo career six years ago, Benevento has co-founded the label that releases his music, The Royal Potato Family, and built the studio, Fred Short Sound, where he works whenever he's not on the road. He's written, arranged and played his largely instrumental anthems, leading a band from behind his customized piano and a tiny armada of drum-machines and sequencers, keyboards and pedals. But until Benevento set out to complete his fifth solo album, he'd never sung his own songs, a strange omission for music that's so often been lyrical. That changes-decisively, assuredly, triumphantly-on Swift, the boldest and most bracing album of Benevento's career.

Abetted by producer Richard Swift (Shins, Damien Jurado, Foxygen) and featuring Benevento's core touring band: Dave Drewitz on bass (Ween) and Andy Borger on drums (Tom Waits, Norah Jones), an ease and energy radiate throughout Swift, its nine tracks every bit as delightful and kinetic as the title suggests. Opener "At the Show" is a handclap invocation, the big-bottomed drums and fleet keyboard line motioning toward the dance floor. "Eye to Eye" moves with an indomitable swagger, while closer "Free Us All" prompts eyes-closed, mouths-open bliss. Even "No One is to Blame," the album's ostensible down-tempo drift, can't suppress the excitement of the new setting, the new singer or the new approach. Its climax offers arching catharsis, Benevento's multi-tracked harmonies curving like a rainbow. On "If I Get to See You At All," Dreiwitz's bass dances atop the track, his rich fuzz-tone affording the melody the feeling of a sinister carousel. And on "The Saint," he and Borger emerge as powerhouse, the viscous bass line rumbling over drums that slow and spring, stutter and stomp. A minute into the track, Benevento has to wait for just the perfect moment in which to slide his silvery piano.

An album of crisp, strange pop songs, sliced through with a wholly original approach to piano, electronics and songwriting, Swift is the singular artistic statement Benevento was destined to create at this point in his continually evolving body of work.

Music From The Films Of R. Swift

INST sounds like Brian Eno and Wendy Carlos had a love child in the 70s and subsequently marooned him/her/it on an Oort Cloud. This largely instrumental electronic project may seem out of character for Richard Swift, with his unmistakable beautiful singing voice, melancholic lyrics, and sophisticated songwriting. With this release, he has resurrected the earliest forms of electronic music, thrown in a few dashes of dub, hip-hop, kraut-rock, and Motown, and created a new hybrid dish. For fans of Re/Search curiosities and other weird, ambient, and electronic headphone arts directed just outside the third eye.

    Walt Wolfman

About a year ago, Richard Swift horrifically fractured his left ring finger. For a moment his nimble guitar and piano work flashed before his eyes. Doctors were saying things like movement and feeling could eventually return, etc, etc. Certainly, not even a little blip on the sadness radar of humanity, but a massive bummer for a fellow who has carved out a niche as one of independent music's sought after session players and producers and especially in relation to the astounding Richard Swift solo output we all know and love.

So, it's with a great, collective sigh of relief that he's back to churning out new material like Whitman. It's chugging, chiming and triumphant, featuring Swift's always endearing falsetto and casual call-and-response lyricism. I've got my own Whitman...Farewell, farewell/I hope it did you good/To say the things/My father never could, Swift pines. The song is a cryptic salute to Walt Whitman, whose American lineage of primal, urgent art can be traced to include Kerouac and Dylan, Bo Diddley and Beefheart right on through to modern outsider-pop wunderkinds like Swift. And according to Swift, Whitman is a nice taste of what we can expect from his next longform recording.

The same can be said for the remainder of the Walt Wolfman EP. Conceived in the same spirit that gave us 2008's cult favorite Ground Trouble Jaw EP, these blown-out, basement R&B rippers are not for the faint of heart. They require movement and sweat, dancing with a cocktail glass in your grip until your shoes are soaked in booze. Highlight of the set, MG 333, is a raw and ghostly trance, a blast of kinetic energy and jazz cigarette smoke. Meanwhile, the neu-vintage jive of Drakula (Hey Man) and Zombie Boogie pack a timelessness that transcends their seasonal titles. And yeah, that's Swift himself on rapid-fire drums across the whole damn set. Shit, he might have been fine without that measly finger after all.

    Other People's Songs Vol. 1

Over the weekend of August 21-22, 2010, not long after Damien Jurado and Richard Swift first collaborated to produce Damien's 2010 record, Saint Bartlett, the pair hunkered down with a 4-track recorder and one Coles 4038 ribbon microphone to record a collection of cover songs that run the gamut from John Denver to Chubby Checker to Kraftwerk.

The timing was perfect. On Other People's Songs Vol 1, we can see the scaffolding of what would become a creative turning point for the pair - later seen with the release of Damien Jurado's Maraqopa, the first record in his Maraqopa trilogy - less than 2 years later. The opening drum hits of Be Not So Fearful, the falsetto vocals of Sweetness, and the Spaghetti-Western swing of Radioactivity are, by now, hallmarks of the Jurado/Swift sound, but Other People's Songs Vol 1 is a transitional fossil, a marking of the pair's collaborative evolution.

In place of the Zen meditations found
on The Mynabirds' first album, GENERALS is filled with armies of stomps and claps, sweeping full spectrum orchestrations, and moments that range from intensely personal pleas to shout-out-loud protests with teeth.

GENERALS picked upĀ  high praise from The Huffington Post, USA Today, Pitchfork, BuzzFeed, Paste, and many others. Songs from the album were featured on Rock Center, Gossip Girl, and Grey's Anatomy, while NPR Music counted "Generals" among their Top Songs of 2012.

    1989 (Ryan Adams)

There's no disguising how Ryan Adams flips Taylor Swift's 1989 upside-down, turning a moment of triumph into bedsit introspection, a concept that is undoubtedly theoretically interesting, but the record works because Adams doesn't play this as a stunt. He's as canny a producer as he is a conceptualist, coaxing forgotten college rock sounds out of his Pax-Am Studios and treating Swift's originals as text to be interpreted, a move that neither saves nor strengthens the originals but rather highlights the skill of Taylor the songwriter and Adams the musician.

    Saint Bartlett

Saint Bartlett opens up with a grandiosity yet unheard on a Damien Jurado album. The album strips away the many layers of paint from the house down the street we know Jurado has occupied for the last decade. The new coat is exhilarating. It makes the whole neighborhood shine. It's a modest grandiosity; still homegrown. The mellotron swells, heavenly handclaps ring in stereo and big drums create a sky for the songs to fly in. And the words. Words spring forth from within the volcano of Jurado, full of hope. There's so much hope, in fact, that album opener Cloudy Shoes turns into a call-and-response with himself, as though it were a dialogue between two halves of himself.

Richard Swift's Spector-esque production is spot-on. He ferries Jurado across theriver, where the metamorphosis occurs. He then ferries him back, and it is through Swift's lens that we see Jurado not as a folk singer, but as a mystic somewhere between Van Morrison, Scott Walker and Wayne Coyne. Saint Bartlett was made entirely at Swift's National Freedom studio in Oregon, in just under a week with only Jurado and Swift as the performers.

Library Catalog Music Series Volume 7: Music For Paradise Armor

Instruments of Science & Technology's Richard Swift (born Ricardo Sigilfredo Olivarez Swift-Ochoa, 1977) lives in the NW region of the U.S. He's made lots of different music. He normally sings, but not here. Music for Paradise Armor was made on varying mediums, a Tascam 4-track, an Otari 50/50 8-track, a 16-track machine by Studer and computer by Macintosh. There are, what Swift calls, modern clickity-clacks, zzzoops s s s and the occasional bleep bleep blaaaaap here. These sounds aim to reflect tech-centric life in the West.

When a broken finger hampered his ability to fret a guitar properly, Richard Swift returned to project B., an electronic endeavor titled Instruments of Science & Technology. Swift's second release under this moniker is a part of Asthmatic Kitty's Library Catalog Music series, and like the other volumes (which include contributions by Roberto Carlos Lange and James McAlister) it is comprised of meditative background instrumentals. Following format, Volume 7: Music for a Paradise Armor is a throwback to the spaced-out electronica and analog synthesizer sounds of the `70s. It's an unintrusive type of soundtrack that never demands attention, but washes by in a quick rush. Recorded using entirely analog equipment and tape machines (with some Mac Book assistance) the songs are filled with thumping ping-pong beats and synthesized textures that bear a resemblance to the deceptively complex soundscapes of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, or the Moog-style blips of circuit wizards Bruce Haack and Hot Butter. Comparatively, this outing is a little more ambient and sparse than the Music from the Films of R/Swift was, with an otherworldly German flavor. It's also other-timely; evoking a time when video games were played with paddles, presumably in a room with shag carpeting. ~ Jason Lymangrover

"Generationals have perfected its a-little-bit-of-everything pop."
    - Under the Radar

Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer, friends since high school, sought
producer Richard Swift to shake things up on this album. Alix
materialized as perhaps Generationals' most confident record, full
of history and as multiphase as Ted and Grant's friendship.

Built up with layer upon layer of rhythmic lines, computer noises,
RZA beats, and poppy vocals that sometimes sound like a Janet
Jackson/Prince face-off, Alix is everything T&G like about music:
old and new, vinyl and youtube, vocal chord and microkorg,
gathered up and arranged with great care into a good-smelling,
subtly sexy, catchy-or-die mish-mosh of sensibilities and time-warp senselessness, lightly peppered with that signature Swiftian
element, but undeniably Generationals in taste. As Swift had
decreed: 'tis a good idea to tear down and rebuild, but it's not
always necessary to start from scratch.

He throws open the gate on his oft insular dirges and allows them to do some real wilding out in the canyon. In Maraqopa, the vistas are miles-wide; the action is more dynamic; the close-ups sweaty and snarling.

The strummed desert blues that begins Nothing is the News quickly bursts open into an Eddie Hazel-worthy supernova shred session, all of it swirling in tinny-psych and Echoplexd howls. Weve never heard anything like this from Jurado. Fifteen years into his remarkable career, and he continues to blossom. Jurado and Swift establish themselves not only as inventive, trusting collaborators, but as one anothers spirit animals in American outsider songcraft, lone wolves in black sheeps clothing. Swift is the Ennio Morricone to Jurados Sergio Leone.

At Swifts National Freedom studios, the live-to-tape ethos allowed these songs to expand and retract like a great beasts breath. Every in-the-moment bell and whistle here is hung with a natural, casual care. And from this, each song offers up its own unique gift: the enchanting childrens choir that echoes each line of Jurados lament for innocence lost on Life Away from the Garden; the breezy bossa nova that begins This Time Next Year and rises as effortless as a smoke cloud into high-noon showdown pop; Reel to Reel's wobbly, Spector-symphony and its meta themes; and the wonderful falsetto vocal work Jurado pulls from himself on Museum of Flight.

Blithe, bouncy, and buffed-to-a-high-gloss indie pop. Pitchfork

As America was basking in catchy tunes, these French hit-makers were creating a sound that would be ahead of their time in terms of style and sonic dynamics. -Huffington Post

For their sixth album, the band turns to the production of Richard Swift (Black Keys, The Shins, Foxygen) for a darker and sexier sound, to compliment the Tahiti 80 brand of catchy dance vibes.

    Black Hours

Hamilton Leithauser announces his debut solo album Black Hours via Ribbon Music -
inaugurating a new chapter in an already remarkable career from The Walkmen front man. The album
brings Leithauser full circle and then some, from lonely midwinter piano-and-vocals sessions, to a
loud, live Rock n Roll group and back again. Featuring Leithauser with a slew of talented collaborators
including Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend), Paul Maroon (The Walkmen), Morgan Henderson
(Fleet Foxes) and Richard Swift (The Shins/solo), the album showcases Leithauser at his most
    passionate, personal and free.

The video for the first single "Alexandra," which was directed by SXSW Film Festival Grand Jury award
winning director Tristan Patterson. The track was co-written by Hamilton Leithauser and Rostam
Batmanglij, the latter producing and mixing the track.

In its orchestrated rhythms, dynamic vocals, and generous production, Black Hours speaks from one
booming voice. The instrumentation provides muscle and texture: Maroon covering a wide range of
acoustic and electric guitars as well as grand piano; Batmanglij switching between guitar, harpsichord,
piano, bass and harmonica; Morgan Henderson from Fleet Foxes takes the marimba and upright bass,
and Richard Swift lays down impressive drums on seven tracks (Henderson & Swift will be accompanying
Leithauser on a full U.S. tour). Amber Coffman from the Dirty Projectors provides backing vocals on
several numbers and even Hugh McIntosh of Leithauser's first band, the Recoys, returns to the drum
stool for a pair of songs.

Principal recording was done in August 2013 at Vox Studios in Los Angeles, "the oldest private studio in
the world", where Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mercer, and countless others cut demos before
appearing on air at NBC studios, just across Melrose Ave.

What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood

Following the demise of Georgie James, Laura Burhenn (half of the former DC duo) gathered her favorite books, records, and people around her and wrote what would become the first album from her new band. Recorded in the rugged hills of Oregon in the summer of 2009 with producer Richard Swift at the helm, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood tells the story of loss and recovery, the music nodding to gospel and garage, the lyrics following a Zen trajectory. I wanted to make a record that felt like Neil Young doing Motown, Laura says, something simple and strong, old and new at once.

    Generals

Following 2010's critically acclaimed debut What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood and a year on the road touring as part of Bright Eyes, singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn teamed up with producer Richard Swift again and emerged with GENERALS, a sophomore album fully armed. In place of the Zen meditations found on the Mynabirds' first album, GENERALS is filled with armies of stomps and claps, sweeping full spectrum orchestrations, and moments that range from intensely personal pleas to shout-out-loud protests with teeth.
