Get Rhythm / I Walk The Line

Released in 1956, Get Rhythm is an upbeat number by Johnny Cash with positive lyrics speaking of a happy shoe-shine boy. While the song is classic, inimitable Cash, it would quickly become overshadowed by its b-side, I Walk the Line. A peculiar song that changes key between each verse and has no chorus, I Walk the Line would become the song Cash is best known for, a tale of pledged fidelity with lyrical undertones implying even deeper meaning. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song at #30 in their 2004 list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

    Original Sun Sound

The Original Sun Sound is the eighteenth overall studio album by singer Johnny Cash and was released by Sun Records in 1964. Although Cash had been recording for Columbia Records since 1958, he had left Sun with enough of a backlog that the label continued to issue previously unreleased recordings on single and album into the early 1960s; this album features several tracks making their debut on LP!

    Original Sun Singles 1956-60

The incendiary singles Jerry Lee Lewis cut for Sun Records in the mid 1950s and early 1960s left a footprint on the face of popular music and forged the backbone of rock 'n' roll itself. Which means that when it comes to rock 'n' roll, it doesn't get any more essential than Sundazed's roundup of 28 of the Killer's rowdiest, raunchiest and most rollicking Sun sides such as Great Balls of Fire, Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On, Crazy Arms, Breathless and many more. Sundazed's high definition 2-LP vinyl edition of Jerry Lee Lewis' original Sun singles are sourced from the analog mono masters.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known. The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched The King Of Rock And Roll trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

    Town Hall Party 1958

Just turned 21 and beautiful beyond words, Wanda Jackson ripped through a red-hot, live Town Hall Party rockabilly session in 1958 that helped define the parameters of this raw, young music. Discovered singing on an Oklahoma radio station only two years earlier by honky-tonk recording star Hank Thompson and encouraged to cut loose musically by genre superstar/touring partner (and onetime boyfriend) Elvis Presley, Jackson was a perfect fit for Town Hall Party, the Los Angeles-based TV show that had already welcomed sets by rockin' luminaries Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins and Eddie Cochran. Backed by old friend and King of the Strings guitarist Joe Maphis, Jackson was in her element for the Town Hall Party session, tearing into Mean, Mean Man, a career-defining tune she'd recorded only a few months earlier. Highlights of Jackson's set also include Rock Your Baby, her current Capitol Records single, and Alone (With You), a Faron Young chart-topper, as well as her show-stopping finale, Jackson roaring through Hard Headed Woman, a scorcher from Elvis' current movie, King Creole. Jackson would soon become a substantial force on the country music charts, specializing in aching, honky tonk ballads for the rest of her career. Still touring today to rabid fan reaction, Jackson has never forgotten her red-hot rockabilly roots. And no live session ever caught Wanda Jackson as wild and rocking as she was on Town Hall Party in 1958, now available on Sundazed's high-definition, ten-inch vinyl.

What is here, though, is immortal, including Elvis Presley's That's All Right and Blue Moon of Kentucky, Johnny Cash's I Walk the Line, Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire, and Carl Perkins' Blue Suede Shoes and Matchbox, among others. Sun

Sun is the first album of original material from Cat Power since her critically acclaimed 2006 album The Greatest and follow-up to her second covers album Jukebox which was released in 2008. In addition to the lead single Ruin, the 11-song set is highlighted by the New York City homage "Manhattan" and the 11-minute epic "Nothing But Time" which features backing vocals by Iggy Pop.

Chan Marshall has moved on from her collaborative forays into Memphis soul and Delta blues. She wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of SUN by herself, a statement of complete control that is echoed in the songs' themes. The narrative arc of the record is deeply American in its spaciousness and optimism, but the music itself is defiantly modern and global.

    Sun Midnight Sun

Sun Midnight Sun is the second solo album from acclaimed singer, songwriter, and fiddle player Sara Watkins. Produced by guitarist, singer, and songwriter Blake Mills, co-founder of the band Simon Dawes, the album features special guest appearances by Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne, Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Benmont Tench, and Sean Watkins.

In the three years since her last release, Watkins has been busy touring the world as guest fiddle player and vocalist with the Decemberists and joining Garrison Keillor on his nationwide Summer Love performance tours, as well as acting as his first and only guest host for A Prairie Home Companion broadcasts.

Sun Midnight Sun was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Shawn Everett at Zeitgeist Studio, Los Angeles, and includes songs written by Watkins ("You and Me," "Take Up Your Spade") as well as several collaborations with Mills ("The Foothills," "Be There," "The Accord," "Impossible," and "Lock and Key"). It also features songs by Dan Wilson ("When It Pleases You") and Willie Nelson ("I'm a Memory"), and a rendition of The Everly Brothers classic "You're the One I Love," on which Fiona Apple duets with Watkins.

Watkins first gained recognition as a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning, platinum-selling trio Nickel Creek. When not on the road or in the studio, Watkins has guest-starred as fiddler and/or harmony vocalist on albums by BÉla Fleck, the Chieftains, Ray LaMontagne, Ben Lee, Dan Wilson, Richard Thompson, and Alex Woodward, among others. Additionally, Watkins and her brother Sean continue an informal residency called the Watkins Family Hour at the L.A. club Largo, which often includes surprise cameos from friends and colleagues.

    The Sun

Before Four Tet was remixing Radiohead and Coldplay and before Adem was performing with David Byrne and Fairport Convention, they were breaking new ground as Fridge, a trio formed in 1996 with fellow schoolmate Sam Jeffers. After three critically acclaimed albums, they're back with The Sun, their most celebrated album yet. It's a dense, aggressive record that casually blends post-punk, left-field funk, free jazz, folk, noise, and Krautrock into one sound that, despite the years and each individual's development, is unmistakably trademark Fridge.

    Sun Ship

Sun Ship is a jazz album recorded on August 26, 1965, by tenor saxophonist John Coltrane. The album extended the free jazz ideas of Transition. The relaxed, serene feel of earlier ballads like "Welcome" was transformed into a new style of ballad on "Dearly Beloved" and "Attaining". This style involved very slow tempos, drum rolls and fills, and a louder, more intense feel than traditional jazz ballads. Like "Psalm" (from A Love Supreme), there is no real tune, just a scale or series of tones used to build an improvised theme.

Coltrane's solos on the other tracks are also more extreme than on his earlier albums, and are reminiscent of the style of Albert Ayler and Pharaoh Sanders in their extensive use of altissimo and multiphonics. The title "Sun Ship" may have been inspired by Sun Ra's conception of free jazz as having an affinity with science fiction conceptions of human existence.

Sun Ship was one of the only albums John Coltrane's quartet recorded without sound engineer Rudy Van Gelder. It was also one of the last albums (with First Meditations, recorded a week later) which John Coltrane recorded before he began experimenting with larger groups. Tenor saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders was playing regularly with the band by September, 1965, and both McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones left the band in January, 1966.

    Roadhouse Sun

With a writing style that echoes the working-man sympathy anthems of Woody Guthrie combined with the folky nature of Bob Dylan and a voice that mirrors Bruce Springsteen's, Ryan Bingham is quickly making a name for himself as one of the up and coming Texas bred songwriters. Born in Hobbs, New Mexico, and raised in rural Texas towns like Spring and Stephenville, Bingham made his living as a bullrider on the Texas rodeo circuit. He entertained his rodeo buddies with songs while selling his self-produced records at small clubs and rodeos along the way. His songwriting and voice soon got him noticed by idol and mentor Joe Ely along with Terry Allen, Guy Clark and other Texas legends. His major label debut, 2007's Mescalito, bears the hardscrabble marking of someone accustomed to the tough life. It veers from campfire balladry to ragged roots rock that bristles with roadhouse energy, wrote No Depression. Bingham's major label follow-up Roadhouse Sun is set for release in May of 2009 from Lost Highway Records.

    Sun Down

Nik Freitas' Team Love debut, Sun Down, equal parts wry, warm and sonorous, is the end product of several years of lifeÆs ups and downs. Freitas writes, plays, engineers and produces every note on his records. Not that he's got a lot of expensive gear. A visit to his Poppy Peak studio/shed reveals that Nik is working low-budget minor miracles, the kind of miracles one receives via hundreds of hours on Craigslist. One listen to Sun Down and you know you're hearing a certain hard-won grace. The record takes you from Paul Simon's Graceland to David Bowie's Hunky Dory all in the span of forty effortless minutes. Sun Down is endowed with a sort of gravity and self-possession; no reaching, no going for the gold, just perfect, four minute thesis statements. It all began several years ago for Freitas, when a co-worker sold him an antique piano that was used by a street musician before the dawn of Casio. Nik taught himself how to play the thing, and it became the cornerstone of three earlier records, Here's Laughing at You, Heavy Mellow and Voicing the Hammers. Other people began to take notice. He's opened for Jason Lytle of Granddaddy, played guitar for Jim Fairchild of All Smiles and recorded with Miles Kurosky of Beulah. Lately, he's been opening shows for Bright Eyes which led him to his current resting place at Team Love. The end of the imaginary side one features Sophie with live horns punctuating the tale of a girl who seems to have made some rather unfortunate choices. It's a perfect signpost of a song, and it clears the decks for what's to come in the second half, where Nik's orchestra of one builds the final five songs into an Abbey Road type suite that fans of Jon Brion will hearken to. Sun Down is imbued with a sort of indie grandeur that is both unexpected and totally natural.

30th Century Records Compilation Volume 1

In the summer of 2015, Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) announced details about 30th Century Records, his imprint in collaboration with Columbia Records. The first release that comes from the world-renowned artist, songwriter, and producer is 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, featuring eleven tracks of guitar-based brilliance.

A psychedelic mosaic with international scope, 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, touches both future and classic sounds from the sun-drenched shores of Brazil to to the murky depths of Glasgow. Dan Auerbach's blistering riffage in The Arcs, and Autolux's arty experimentalism are featured alongside Sam Cohen's rough-hewn authenticity and emotive rockers from newcomers like Nine Pound Shadow and Waterstrider. Compiled by Danger Mouse, this album finds guitar music alive and well from the garage to the depths of space.

The compilation will also feature a brand new track from Autolux, who will release their forthcoming album via 30th Century Records in 2016, as well as an exclusive new track from Dan Auerbach's project, The Arcs.

Two of Skip's rare post-Oar studio excursions; All My Life (I Love You), from '72, has the boisterous feel of Spence's best work with The Moby Grape, while Land Of The Sun, recorded in '96 with the X-Files in mind, sounds like nothing else under the sun, and finds Skip sonorously intoning a poem atop a psychedelic bed of sound.

Ain't It Hard! Garage & Psych from Viva Records

The short-lived Viva Records label was one wildly eclectic outfit. Helmed by hitmaker Snuff Garrett, this Los Angeles-based imprint targeted the teen marketplace with a series of extraordinary garage / psych / pop singles. The labels command of popular styles prevailed across these Top 40 hopefuls, ranging from the stomping beat of the Shindogs to the psych-fuzz nirvana of the Sound Sandwich. And theres Class of 66 garage-grunge from the Wailers and the Second Helping (yes, thats a teenage Kenny Loggins howling at the moon on the positively snarling Let Me In, among other selections). With a supporting cast led by Leon Russell and J.J. Cale and bolstered with choice Snuff Garrett Productions like Gypsy Trips and Sunday Servants, Aint It Hard! stands as an essential anthology of Sunset Strip sixties sounds!

    Built In Sun

Built In Sun is a new project from Joe Plummer, drummer for The Shins, Cold War Kids
and Mister Heavenly. Joe has also produced and co-recorded an all drum project
called Hew Time (with Dale Crover and Coady Willis from The Melvins), released on
Joyful Noise in 2014. Joe has also toured and recorded with Modest Mouse and The
Black Heart Procession drums and percussion over the course of the last 10 years.
Built In Sun started during touring breaks between The Shins "Port of Morrow" and
Cold War Kids "Hold My Home" releases. Built in Sun began as an instrumental idea,
with inspirations landing somewhere between John Cales "Fear", the punk vibe of the
Wipers and John Reis, and his favorite soundtrackists John Brion and Clint Mansell.
After the first instrumental mixes were finished (with the help of Richard Swift) he
decided that the tunes and melodies just might be cool enough to ask a few of his pals
to sing. Pall Jenkins (The Black Heart Procession) was the first. Within a day Pall sent
back John John, with solid scratch vocals. Another song came the next day, with new
ones following almost each day afterward .There was no use to ask anyone else.
The songs really came together with the addition of Pall's vocals and it felt great to
collaborate with him again. With this, Built In Sun was complete

    Once Around The Sun

The Roundtable offers another soundtrack that was shelved soon after it was recorded. Composed by jazz eccentric John Sangster, Once Around The Sun was the score written to feature on the unreleased 1970 film documenting the Australian Ourimbah Festival: Pilgrimage of Pop. Unheard for the last forty years, the music from this film sees Sangster blend themes of space mythology and '60s counterculture to produce the most expansive, heaviest and experimental piece of music ever recorded in Australia.

Reminiscent in tone to Sun Ra's Space is the Place and Jean Claude Vannier's L'enfant Assassin des Mouches, Once Around the Sun is one of the few examples of Australian orchestrated psychedelic jazz to be made. Cosmic mood music laced with heavy acid psych and pastoral folk sit alongside Eastern mysticism and exotic avant garde jazz.

While the musicians responsible have not been extensively documented it is reported that alongside Sangster on percussion and the Sydney Philharmonic, the music was played by members of the Don Burrows Quartet, SCRA, and an early incarnation of The Galapagos Duck Band.

Truly a unique Australian timepiece, this is the heaviest slab of Australian film music ever committed to tape. Together with recordings such as the Marinetti OST, Once Around The Sun is an amazing document of the visionary and experimental mind of Australia's jazz outsider, John Sangster.

    Shadow of the Sun

Comes With 7 Featuring Lead Single "Animal" & Vinyl-Exclusive B-Side "Fadeaway"

Moon Duo began work on their latest album during a period in which they
faced a curious new reality. Freed from deadlines and expectations, and suddenly
off the road for a stretch, Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada found themselves
each experiencing strange shifts in their perceptions of reality. Like the beginning
of an acid trip, or the edge of dusk, when shadows converge mysteriously with
light, life began to slip into a surreal dream, and then back, suddenly, without
warning. Unstable in these strange shadows and light, the band turned to music
to tether themselves to a kind of working sanity.

Shadow of the Sun is the result of a few months of wrangling with this new unsettling
way of being. Working both in a dark basement in Portland, and above
ground in sunny San Francisco, these new sounds and songs veered dramatically
from groove to groove, revealing sonic textures the duo had not previously
explored. The song "Night Beat," with its woozy dance rhythm, is an attempt at
finding joy and acceptance on this new, shifting ground, while "Wilding" plays
off the familiar Moon Duo sound, taking refuge in a repetitive, grounding
riff-scape. Elsewhere the band gives itself entirely up to the trip, cruising along
on the fuzzed rhythms of "Slow Down Low" and "Free the Skull," crashing into
the clenched-teeth herky-jerk of "Zero," and floating down, down, down, on the
narcotic mist of "In a Cloud."

To further coat the album in a fog of stoned confusion, the duo decamped to
Berlin to mix with Finnish beat-meister Jonas Verwijnen of Kaiku Studios. There
they managed to entirely reverse the clarity of the album, increasing the overall
focus, and creating an unorthodox argument for sanity through extreme negation
    of proper technique and conventionality.

The result, at the end of the trip, is the album Shadow of the Sun.
