Top Contenders: The Best Of Strung Out is a retrospective celebrating the Simi Valley, CA band's 20 year career. We are super stoked on how our best of album has turned out! We chose the songs that we thought would best define our sound and it wasnt easy making the final selection. Ryan Greene did an amazing job on remixing these songs, which has given a new life to them all. We cant wait for you, the fans, to check them out. The bonus is the 3 brand new, unreleased songs that are included which turned out great as well. If you were to only buy one Strung Out album, this would for sure be it! - Jake Kiley

Strung Out: Volume One (Box Set)

    Remixed & Remastered

Includes 4 LP's (3 Albums + Bonus LP Of The Skinny Years), DVD & Giant Poster

STRUNG OUT'S last album, 2009's Agents of the Underground, was their 7th full length and celebrated the band's 20th anniversary. A true testament to their relevance and longevity is their ability to organically evolve through the years. STRUNG OUT began their career as a strictly melodic punk band known for their tight musicianship and catchy melodies but evolved into a more aggressive, metal-infused veteran punk band. That is what all of us were most interested in capturing: the true musical journey of one of the founding bands on Fat Wreck Chords.

This box set, Volume One, showcases the first three albums: Another Day in Paradise, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, and Twisted By Design, all fully remixed by Ryan Greene, helping to display the true power of these songs along with nuances previously unheard. We've re-scanned all the artwork from the original pieces and included deluxe foldout inserts with never before seen photos and extensive liner notes from the band. The real gem in this set, in the works for a decade (!!!), is the first-ever STRUNG OUT DVD! You get a full 2012 concert where they performed the Suburban and Twisted albums in their entirety, all professionally filmed and recorded, and that's just the start. There's a TON of footage from the '90s: shows, tour antics, interviews, behind the scenes stuff; a veritable treasure trove of classic STRUNG OUT. For you vinyl hounds, the LP box set includes The Skinny Years Before We Got Fat, remastered and on vinyl for the first time ever! Finally, we think the box set does a nice job of encapsulating the distinct personality of Jim Cherry's contribution to STRUNG OUT. Jim is another member of the Fat family who passed way too soon, and as STRUNG OUT vocalist Jason Cruz states in his liner notes to the fans, "This box set is as much for Jim as it is for you." We hope it serves his legacy and your expectations.

The Strung Out experience should ultimately begin with this, their debut, album. While still an astounding 13 songs of melodical fury, it often shows the youth of the band.

The listener is floored from the get-go by 'Population Control, and the rest of the album refuses to let you up on your feet. Aggressive, speed-driven and catchy the whole way through, but Strung Out's metal influence pokes through often with heavy palm-muting and shredding solos. The drumming is spectacular as always, however, it is interesting to listen the the chronological growth in Jordan Burns' talent. He was good then, but he is leaps and bounds ahead of this album now. This is one of the first records that defined the new, talented melodo-speed punk sound, and Strung Out would continue leading the genre in the years to come.

Going Way Out With Heavy Trash

The bastard cousin to Spencer's genre-demolishing Blues Explosion, Heavy Trash features Speedball Baby's guitar brawler and producer extraordinaire Matt Verta-Ray in a project that drinks down the best of roots, R&B and rock-a-billy. Going Way Out with Heavy Trash, the second offering from these kings of buzz saw guitars and late night incantations, was recorded in three different countries and features an international cast of musicians - Canada's the Sadies, members of Denmark's Tremolo Beer Gut and Powersolo, and New York City's Simon Chardiet and Phil Hernandez. Heavy Trash is what the name implies - filthy and hard - the soundtrack to the strung-out road trip from which there can be no return.

    Agents of the Underground

Over their tenure as the progenitors of the metal-infused punk sound, Strung Out have yet to get complacent. Instead, like a championship fighter that gets stronger with every round, they continually unleash a battering assault of technical guitar work and gripping melodies.

The band's latest full-length (7th overall), Agents of the Underground, is a triumphant defense of the title they've held for years. With blisteringly fast riffs, crushing rhythms, and powerful vocals, Agents of the Underground is quintessential Strung Out, yet, as with each succeeding release, the band manages to evolve their sound. This time around the band enlisted the producing talents of Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Social Distortion, Danzig, Pennywise) and from the very first moments of the album the success of the collaboration is overtly apparent. With passionate melodies that recall Strung Out's earlier albums and the ruthless aggressive music showcased on their recent releases, Agents of the Underground can be hailed as the perfect culmination of all their past efforts. As Strung Out fans have come to expect, the hybrid of raw pulsing emotion, scientific precision, and years of experience yields a product that far surpasses all imitators. Agents of the Underground is no exception to this, rather an escalation. One listen and you'll know exactly how the band maintains relevance and continues to garner new fans with each release.

Delicate Cutters return in 2012 with Ring, their third album overall and second for Skybucket Records.

Not a revivalist outfit, not a gimmick band peddling an image as identity, Delicate Cutters are a band from the American South. Theirs is a music about the remarkable and mundane moments comprising a human existence. About the connective tissue found between them.

For the follow-up to their heralded 2011 release Some Creatures, Delicate Cutters opted to forgo the home studio for the first time. Recording at Ol Elegante Studio under the guidance of Lester Nuby III (Verbena, Vulture Whale, Maria Taylor, Wooden Wand) Delicate Cutters have delivered their most focused and dynamic recordings to date.

From the deep country haunt of Where the Cottonmouths Hung, the manic turn of Tilt-A-Whirl, to the slow burn of New Life and strung out revelations of Resurrection Fern, Delicate Cutters emerge as a band in full command of its voice and fearless in using it.

    Universal Breakdown Blues

Universal Breakdown Blues is a modern urban blues/rock offering that reflects the soul of blues mastermind Popa Chubby. The album features 12 brand new tracks that capture the fire and energy of his live shows. It represents an entirely new level of his tempestuous, soulful playing. Popa puts it all into the simple language of music and invites us all to the party!

'This is the blues now. It's the people's blues. The blues belongs to the people and I get to sing it. If there's one thing I want people to know about me, it's that I'm a survivor, says Popa Chubby. 'Here's my story: My dad died when I was seven. I was abandoned and raised myself. I moved to New York City when I was 18 and started playing music. I got a huge heroin habit and ended up strung out on the streets until I was in my early twenties. I started playing again and got away from drugs and never went back, and then I got into the New York blues scene of the early '90s, and here I am today.'

Universal Breakdown Blues is a monumental blues album fueled by the veteran Popa Chubby.

TERROR earned quite a reputation since forming at the turn of the millennium. Their melding of no-frills, breakneck hardcore and the fervor of new generation metal bridges the gap between young and old, and it makes for one hell of a pit no matter what city or stage the band leaves in ruins. Vogel has been a key figure in the scenes survival, having given up a normal home life to slug it out on the road despite broken limbs, slipped discs and everything else that comes with hosting a TERROR show. TERROR is so much more than five individuals making music. They are an energy, a force, a refuge and a voice for all the lost and unheard. This is an attempt to put to words that force expressing the bands dreams, visions and hopes through the underground music medium of hardcore. This is the story of TERROR, the now legendary team of vets tirelessly sharing their ambitions live on stage over 300 times a year since their start in 2003. The band has no boundaries when playing a show. Performing a festival to thousands one day and following it up with a show in a squat the other is not an uncommon occurrence for this group. They simply want to perform for whoever is willing to listen. TERROR is welcoming to all crowds and groups, sharing the stage with such a diverse list of bands ranging from HATEBREED to STRUNG OUT, BEHEMOTH to THE BOUNCING SOULS and LAMB OF GOD to TRAPPED UNDER ICE. If someone wants to book it and the schedule is willing, they are there to inspire. So prepare for the release; the latest communique to the troops; everyone on high alert for the imminent distribution of hardcore reality. You know what youre getting into when TERROR releases new tracks. Clear any room you may be in because its not gonna be pretty.

When producer David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Los Campesinos!) agreed to helm the latest High Strung album, a strange/wonderful meeting was set to take place. In the height of a brutal Canadian winter, the High Strung brought a decidedly different batch of songs with them to the small church-studio of the legendary indie producer. Josh Malerman (songwriter) has written his first group of personal numbers, songs that addressed bizarre psychological states as well as revealing/comforting ideas of a man turning himself inside out, the idea of celebratory self-examination.

Ode to the Inverse of the Dude sounds a lot like what it's about; there's no doubt Newfeld stretched a band who was ready to be stretched and the outcome is a fantastic/blissful proclomation. It's an exploratory album, combining dreamy sounds and lyrics with the magnificence of the rock band that the High Strung is. The album is an honest original, but it's not a puzzle, it's a matter of heart. Songs like ôGuilt is How IÆm Built,ö ôStanding at the Door of Self-Discoveryö and ôOut of Character,ö not only adhere to the theme but feel and sound like a genuine self-evaluation where the subject is equal parts excited and frightened about their discoveries. Derek Berk and Chad Stocker, one of the countryÆs most colorful/dynamic rhythm sections, do not disapoint as they bring to life this coming together of wonderful artists. This record is a musical/pyschological triumph for both a producer who has worked his magic into the hearts of millions and a band who gets better with every album.

    Numbered Limited Edition

Paint It Black: 1985 Debut Is Penultimate Goth-Rock Album

Andrew Eldritch's Ghostly Vocals, Static Beats, Melodic Guitar Jangle Create Hauntingly Atmospheric Soundscapes

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI (Best Record Plant in America): First Time Any Sisters of Mercy Record Given Audiophile Treatment on LP

The template for all goth-rock records that followed, Sisters of Mercy's First And Last And Always stands as one of the-if not the most-influential albums of its kind ever released. Distinguished by Andrew Eldritch's ghostly singing, which gives the impression of hearing a forlorn ghoul croon from a foggy English graveyard, the 1985 set is drenched in gloom, claustrophobia, black humor, and dance-ready beats that provide exhilarating contrasts. Fans of the Cure, Depeche Mode, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, mid-period Nick Cave, and Joy Division will find it to be a new favorite record.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (the best record plant in North America), Silver Label numbered limited edition LP presents First And Last And Always with a fuller, richer sound that positively obliterates the thin, feeble sonic perspectives that have limited the music until now. Every aspect from Eldritch's haunting singing to the group's jangling guitars and prancing bass lines finally gain genuine definition. Yet what's most improved is the sense of atmosphere: Sisters of Mercy revel in painting tone poems, where the feel and effect are as essential as the notes that are played. This is now an atmospheric tour de force.

Ever since it's release, First And Last And Always has been aptly shrouded in mythology. Eldritch pushed the envelope during the recording sessions, literally walking into walls and repeatedly unable to maintain his focus. Strung out on amphetamines, dazed by days of no sleep, upset by a recent breakup, and eating little, the vocalist channeled his discord into somber lyrics and brooding singing. He's framed by pulsing albeit lean, spare rhythms, patient tempos, and the clatter of a programmed drum machine that, in spite of its mechanical operation, sounds strangely organic. The songs evoke wet dungeons, walls-closing-in paranoia, and late-night strolls amidst the U.K.'s mysterious underground.

Despite its overall dark character, the record's arrangements value spaciousness, putting a premium on room and minimalism that makes each note count. As a result, twinkling pianos and keyboards parallel steel-cutting guitars and low-tuned bass lines that, in combination with Eldrtich's baritone, suggest glimmers of hope among the decay. Songs such as the shaking Possession, dramatic Some Kind of Stranger, and desperate Marian remain models of the gothic and post-punk disciplines more than 25 years after their debut. It's no surprise that, given all of the tension and personality that infuse the album, Sisters of Mercy disbanded just months after its release.

It's unlikely that any goth-rock album has ever sounded this good. This MoFi Silver Label LP will turn your room into rainy, dreary England, circa 1985, and expose you to one of the most harrowing vocal performances on record.

In this man are the traces of becoming. the display of veins strung into a multi-colored silhouette of a man born out of the electric dawn of the late seventies. Birthed from a songwriter father who struggled to unveil to his son the distortion world of drugs, song, and love, he discovered early that we are all in exile from one another. The boy grew up fascinated with the world of horror films, new wave pop, rap music, and graffiti. His spray paint fingers grazed dusty record sleeves, transformed a cheep home stereo into a mixer, and connected a young man with the current that changed his head. After years of journeying through sweat drenched undergrounds, and strobe light shadows, a man emerged. One who finds consolation in the fractal universe, one who has discovered love in a Technicolor death valley, and one who realized that those of the Diaspora of love can find community through song, he radiates wax for us. A man who is wired to the electric field of his past where he has loves and lost, and discovered the intervals of an off beat, kinetic world, he offers his songs as flesh, this music is an artifact of a man who shares his quantum of experience, who wants you to plug into his design, bridge the gap of our individual exiles, and discover the art of becoming electric through analog tape hiss.

    Temporary People (Awaiting Repress)

Temporary People is the second LP by Joseph Arthur And The Lonely Astronauts, a NYC-based collective. Arthur, along with guitarists Kraig Jarret Johnson (The Jayhawks) and Jennifer Turner (Fur Slide, Natalie Merchant), drummer Greg Wieczorek (Twilight Singers) and bassist Sibyl Buck, descended upon the Catskill wilderness to conjure what Arthur testifies as a fully-realized, awesome explosion of rock and roll. The best and truest things are born out of necessity, Arthur explains. I hung onto the recording of this album like a man in the middle of the ocean would to a a piece of wood floating by, you can hear it in the songs and you can hear it in the band pulling together. This album is the sound of survival. The follow up to 2007's Let's Just Be, Temporary People finds the Astronauts steeped in rattling anthems (Faith, Temporary People), unearthly rock revivals (Dead Savior, Look into the Sky) and classic country inspired hymns (Say Goodbye, Turn You On).

Jo is one of those rare writer-performers where you get the sense, whatever your belief, that something greater is being channeled through his music and voice. Like Patti Smith, Grant Lee Phillips, Thom Yorke, he trances and the voice, the meaning, becomes bigger than him, bigger than a few pop chords or words strung together. It touches something very deep and universal. - Michael Stipe, R.E.M.

"Sonny Smith's endlessly prolific San Francisco psychpop band Sonny
And The Sunsets crank out loopy, fun, lofi tunes at scary rates"
    - Stereogum

Initially envisioned as a film project, each song on Talent Night at
the Ashram was originally a short film that, when strung together,
formed a feature-length movie. Equal parts Fellini and Os Mutantes,
Talent Night at the Ashram is cinematic in its storytelling and
kaleidoscopic in its mixing and merging of musical genres.

'60s folk, electric sitars, flutes, and myriad other sounds help
accentuate tales of professional bowlers in desperate need of a strike
("Icelene's Loss"), a mansion that houses every woman Smith has
ever known ("The Secluded Estate"), and Occupy meetings ending in
bad love ("Secret Plot to Destroy the Underground").

Recording was a communal effort mostly done at Smith's home on
this tape machine with musicians such as Shayde Sartin (The Fresh
& Onlys), Garret Goddard (King Tuff), Kelley Stoltz, Rusty Miller, Ian
McBrayer, and more. Talent Night at the Ashram finds Smith once
again securing his status as one of today's most arrestingly inventive

Apocalypse Fetish is a 5 song extended play release from me, Lou Barlow. The cover features a newborn child peering warily over the edge of her mother's sling into 2016, the year that conspiracy theorists became experts and anger went (even more) mainstream. The song Apocalypse Fetish proposes that, perhaps, many of us have been disappointed that the end of the world has taken too long to come after we've spent most of our lives predicting it. And, perhaps, we've decided to take matters in our own hands and bring it on because, if it doesn't come soon, then didn't we all seem foolish talking about it all. the. time.

There are 4 other songs on the EP, none of which are political in nature but are similarly fired up. The melodic inspirations for the record came from my day in the back stairways and basement of the enormous Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Dinosaur Jr. were there opening for Primus in August 2015). I was alone and playing my ukulele in the cavernous spaces and tiled showers there. The unique reverberations brought the beginnings of these songs. The hall is reputed to be haunted and I'm not so sure it isn't.

I wasn't able to fully draw the songs out until I recorded, once again, with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton Massachusetts (May 2016). I recorded my last full-length record (Brace the Wave) there in 2015. I'm happy to consider this EP a follow-up to that album, though, this time, every song is played on ukulele (strung with heavy strings and tuned much lower than a standard uke). Actually, it sounds nothing like a ukulele. For all intents and purposes, it is a 4-string acoustic guitar utilizing the strumming styles and lower toned soundscapes I've been pursuing since my first released ukulele recording: Poledo (on Dinosaur Jr.'s 2nd LP You're Living All Over Me). Yes, I've been doing this for a long time. I'd be proud to have Apocalypse Fetish be my final record. Check it out.

Limted Edition Vinyl - 1,000 Copies

    180 Gram Virgin Vinyl

    Manufactured By: United Record Pressing

Mastering By The Music Director Of The Philip Glass Ensemble, Michael Riesman, Who Joined The Ensemble In 1974.

This new vinyl release from Orange Mountain Music presents Philip Glass' first concert ever in what the composer considers his ''debut.'' The concert took place on May 19, 1968 at the Film Makers Cinematheque at 80 Wooster Street in Soho, New York City.

The performance was the first ''all-Glass'' concert ever and featured solo works and duets with visual elements. This recording captures two of the solo works on the program including Glass himself performing How Now for solo organ and Strung Out for solo amplified violin performed by the legendary Dorothy Pixley-Rothchild for whom Glass had previously written a violin concerto for in 1960. It was soon after this concert that Glass started his own ensemble for which he wrote many new works. Consequently many of the works from this 'pre-Philip Glass Ensemble' period were not performed for a long time. Strung Out has the sheet music strung out in an L shape and the performer walks along the music as he/she goes farther into the piece.

This is the oldest recording of any kind of Philip Glass' early music.

''Every new musical language requires new performance skills. Works such as HOW NOW and STRUNG OUT were, in effect, pieces written to develop these skills which include stamina, sustained concentration, and an ability to play continuously in an easy and relaxed manner.'' - Philip Glass

PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone (Out Of Stock)

As one of the world's most respected guitarists in one of rock's most commercially successful bands, John Frusciante seemingly had it all figured out. So when the famed alternative guitar guru opted out of his second stint as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009, many racked their brains for an explanation. But listening to PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone, it's clear that Frusciante had an itch that the Peppers couldn't scratch. A record as sprawling, layered, and flat-out bizarre as its title would suggest, reveling instead in an eclectic mix of electronica, funk, free jazz, and krautrock.

The record's break from the Peppers' funk rock formula shouldn't come as a complete surprise to those familiar with Frusciante's past solo efforts, which have always been hard to categorize. Some, like 2004s Ian MacKaye-produced DC EP, keep things on a straight and narrow pop rock path, while others, like 2001s To Record Only Water For Ten Days, are more enigmatic. But even with that caveat, PBX is Frusciante's most challenging and niche effort to date. "Bike", with its Buddy Rich-on-crank drum intro and skittering Pro Tools backbeat, sounds like a sonic freak-out from the year 2036, whereas "Ratisug" works its way back toward center while preserving the record's heavy electronic lean.

The LP is anything but even-keeled, and the music constantly changes course, often within the same song. But with repeated listens, that quickly becomes part of its zonked-out charm. PBX is a record strung out on big, sometimes half-baked ideas and lots of lofty ambition, and fortunately Frusciante has accrued enough good will for listeners to let him off the leash some. It hits (it's hard to listen to the beginning of "Mistakes" without thinking of that A-Ha video from 1987) and it misses ("Uprane?" Good God, what's happening?), but still it keeps the air underneath its wings. If Frusciante had to bail on his Peppers gig to find inspiration, at least the result tickles the eardrums in some unexpected ways.

John Maus lives in his birthplace of Austin, Minnesota. Whilst working towards his PhD in Political Science, he also composes music that taps into melancholic fantasy and affirms that we are all truly alive. Questing synthesizers, tensely strung bass lines and chasing drum machines providing the perfect backdrop for Johns deeply resonant reverb-drenched vocal. Born in the decade of synth pop and sharing his birthday with George Frideric Handel, John started making music when Nirvana posters went up on every teenagers wall. Its this curious conflux of influences that partially helps to describe Johns music. Its a world where the Germs jam with Jerry Goldsmith, Cabaret Voltaire relocate to Eternia and Josquin des Prez writes a new score for RoboCop. The confrontation of punk, the fleeting poignancy of '80s movie soundtracks, the insistent pulse of Moroder and the spirituality of Medieval and Baroque music all find salvation in John Maus.

Johns debut album proper entitled Songs was released through Upset The Rhythm in 2006. It was a record permeated with aching memories; a perfect testimony to lost romance and longing. Its awe-inspired follow-up Love Is Real (released on UTR, 2007) proved a more cohesive listen in terms of focus and emotional depth. Maus returned last year to the heavy snows of the Midwest to finish album number three, We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves.

We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves breaks new ground for Maus. The shirt pulling and air punching of his impassioned live performance is finally captured in all its frenzied appeal alongside a tender inner space that wasnt as apparent on his previous albums. Its a record where promise takes the lead for the first time, providing a counterpoint to Johns default existential calling.

Ribbon Music's inaugural signing was Minnesotan pop enigma John Maus and his album We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves was released in June of 2011 in North America. They will now release on behalf of John Maus, throughout the world, a sixteen song collection of music spanning eleven years of creative output titled A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material.

Of the sixteen songs showcased, five: "This is the Beat," "Castles in the Grave," "No Title (Molly)," "Bennington" and "My Hatred is Magnificent" have appeared on previous compilations, while two of the songs "Angel of the Night" and "Lost" have never been released on any format, nor across any media. The same can not be said of the remaining nine songs, the majority of which initially appeared on Demos 2011, a bundle of tracks originating from where they had been uploaded by their creator to be appreciated, if not reviewed, by those eager enough to search them out.

A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material has been entirely remixed and remastered and features artwork and design by Turner Prize winning artist Wolfgang Tillmans. This LP version is limited to a one time worldwide pressing of 3000 hand numbered copies and includes an MP3 download card.
