    KAB SpeedStrobe

The KAB SpeedStrobe was designed to replace and improve upon older strobe designs that relied on power line frequency. We also wanted something that was easier to use and included the ability to actually measure small amounts of error. Not just a go - no - go - test.

The KAB SpeedStrobe features a quartz locked illuminator with 99.99% accuracy. And since it is battery operated, it works everywhere. No need for 50 or 60 Hz versions. The Disc is silk screen printed on durable 20 mil PVC.

Instead of hypnotic bars, the KAB SpeedStrobe features the actual speed numbers. In use, the desired speed is read directly from the disc. no searching for the right band. Covers 16.66, 33.33, 45, 70.59 - 90 RPM. By timing the drift of the display over one minute, accuracy can be measured to 0.03%

Many Hi End turntables today still use hysteresis synchronous motors which rely on the line frequency to achieve accurate rotation. Using a conventional strobe to measure these turntables reveals a flaw: If the line frequency is low, the turntable will run slow, but so will the fluorescent light used to illuminate the strobe disc. Result: the strobe may show the correct speed, even though it is wrong! There is a definite need for an independent quartz crystal controlled illuminator.

The KAB SpeedStrobe is fully independent thereby eliminating major sources of error. And the large disc is very easy to read.

The really great features to take note of with the KAB SpeedStrobe is the ease of use and absolute accuracy.

The KAB SpeedStrobe is unique in 2 ways. First, it does not rely on line frequency like other strobe discs. We have heard our share of stories that confirm what we have always suspected: line frequency variations are common. And if your turntable uses a hysteresis synchronous type motor, it will be susceptible to speed variations.

Second, conventional strobe discs use a series of hypnotic bars that freeze in motion when the turntable is at the correct speed. Thats fine for a turntable that can adjust its speed. But have you ever tried to time those marks so you can measure accuracy? It is nearly impossible. The KAB SpeedStrobe disc uses large easy to read numbers. It is very easy to time the drift of this display. This lets you measure fixed speed turntables and determine their accuracy.

Timespan Remixes is exactly what the title implies: The entire debut album by Majeure, remixed by three of his friends and favorite producers. Zombi co-conspirator Steve Moore expands on the opening minutes of Timespan to give it an ominous John Carpenter dread. Jesu mastermind Justin K Broadrick transforms Teleforce into a 10-minute vertigo-inducing shoegaze epic. Renowned French producer Black Strobe closes out the album with a staggering 20-minute reinvention of The Dresden Codex, a white- hot house banger.

In this man are the traces of becoming. the display of veins strung into a multi-colored silhouette of a man born out of the electric dawn of the late seventies. Birthed from a songwriter father who struggled to unveil to his son the distortion world of drugs, song, and love, he discovered early that we are all in exile from one another. The boy grew up fascinated with the world of horror films, new wave pop, rap music, and graffiti. His spray paint fingers grazed dusty record sleeves, transformed a cheep home stereo into a mixer, and connected a young man with the current that changed his head. After years of journeying through sweat drenched undergrounds, and strobe light shadows, a man emerged. One who finds consolation in the fractal universe, one who has discovered love in a Technicolor death valley, and one who realized that those of the Diaspora of love can find community through song, he radiates wax for us. A man who is wired to the electric field of his past where he has loves and lost, and discovered the intervals of an off beat, kinetic world, he offers his songs as flesh, this music is an artifact of a man who shares his quantum of experience, who wants you to plug into his design, bridge the gap of our individual exiles, and discover the art of becoming electric through analog tape hiss.

Light: On The South Side (Awaiting Repress)

    2 LPs and 132-page book!

Between 1975-1977, Chicago's South Side night clubs were a little lighter. Photographer Michael Abramson hit Perv's House, Pepper's Hideout, The High Chaparral, The Patio Lounge, and The Showcase Lounge, not to capture the artists on stage, instead popping off a half dozen rolls every night on the crowd. Light: On The South Side gathers for the first time over 100 of these images, as Numero Group shines its own strobe on yet another dark corner of the past. The 132-page hard back book features photos, an ephemera section, and an essay by Nick Hornby.

Housed in a gorgeous slipcase with the 12x12 book is Pepper's Jukebox, a seventeen track compilation of the kind of funky Chicago blues heard from the stage and the Wurlitzer. The deluxe 2LP set is packaged in a sharp gatefold jacket with two inner sleeves crammed to the gills with label scans and stories. All in all, it's the classiest Numero record ever made, spotted easily from across the room with its near 2 spine.

Light: On the South Side is undoubtedly Numeros most extravagant and audaciously packaged seta dazzling collection that should receive an automatic Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package. Housed in a slipcase box, the compilations 2-LP gatefold vinyl and 132-page hardbound 12x12 book offer the ultimate immersion into Chicagos African-American South Side nightclubs and the sounds, sights, personalities, and smells that filled them on a nightly basis. The gorgeous collection is a prerequisite for any fan of blues, R&B, and soul (and by natural extension, rock and pop)and anyone curious to glimpse a bygone era of life-after-dark celebrations staged by urbanites that lived for evenings on the dance floor, in front of the Wurlitzer, and in leather booths surrounded by the opposite sex, booze, and cigarettes. -Bob Gendron, TONE Audio, Issue 25

    Solid Gold Heart

The words and primary voice are those of Jad Fair, that
enduringly idiosyncratic artist revered in discerning pockets of
the global indie rock underground for decades. Danielson's
Daniel Smith has long admired Fair, drawing inspiration from
Half Japanese (the band Fair formed with his brother in the '70s)
on through to his prolific career today. Their discussions of
collaborating finally came to fruition when Joyful Noise
Recordings designated Fair its "Artist In Residence" for 2014
and Danielson was tapped as one of 4 artists (including R. Stevie
Moore; Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake; and Strobe Talbot) to
record separate respective albums with him for a boxed-set
limited release. "Flattered and honored" is how Smith sums up
his feelings about the project -- and grateful to get a game-plan
for what always seemed a complementary pairing.

Sounds Familyre will be doing their own non-limited release of
Solid Gold Heart in June, on CD, digital and gold vinyl. The 11
tracks of sweet collaboration collected under said title sound like
what you might expect, given the respective artists: gleaming
tunes of sincere sing-speak, resplendent with sparkling back-up
vocals and warmly melodic, inventive instrumentation; a
sunshine-bright outlook of positive encouragement to keep
"rockin' on the side of gooood" -- because, after all, "We
deserve chocolate cake/ We deserve apple pie/ Enjoy your life
    ..."

The collaborative process commenced with Fair sending Smith
his unique vocal demos of recited lyrics with articulated mouth-sound musical qualities (some bits remain in the final mixes).
Smith then wrote music for each chosen track, eventually getting
Fair and drummer Gilles Rieder into his Clarksboro, NJ studio
to record their parts during a few hours break from touring.
Aside from Smith's own guitar-playing and singing throughout
the album, there were contributions made by his brothers David
and Andrew on percussion, and sisters Rachel and Megan along
with wife Elin on vocals. Spicing things up at Fair's behest were
members of Texas art-polka band Brave Combo: Carl Finch on
accordion and keys; Jeffrey Barnes on sax and woodwinds; and
Danny O'Brien on trumpet. Bringing things full-circle was
Kramer (Shockabilly, Bongwater, B.A.L.L. et al.) on bass, who
also co-mixed and mastered the album.

The result is a beguiling blend that builds off each participant's
strengths, truly a fresh sum that is greater than its parts. "The
goal was to make 3-minute pop songs, as accessible and fun and
immediate as possible," notes Smith. And that's what you'll
hear, each track an uplifting, mutually enhanced concoction.

Anyone who ever had a Solid Gold Heart -- wouldn't they want
to turn around and share it? Of course they would. Jad Fair and
Danielson are happy to offer up theirs.

Party Out of Bounds! Eclectic Groups Sophomore Album The Equal of Its Smash Debut

Boffo Encore: Surf, Pop, Dance, Kitsch, Cabaret, and Psychedelia Unite With Giddy Vocals and Ricky Wilsons Still-Underrated Guitar Playing

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI: 1980 Smash Now Possesses Jump-Out-of-Your-Seat Sonics

Party out of bounds! Not only is this sentiment one of the B-52s directives on their ceaselessly fun sophomore album, its one of the records hit songs, and perfectly summarizes the spirit and intent behind this new-wave classic. Completely up to task in following up their kitschy debut, the B-52s step everything up a notch: Songwriting, humor, exaggeration, melodies, hooks, and group interplay. Wild Planet also finds the band embracing stronger psychedelic accents that seamlessly mesh with its lava-lamp colors and textures. What an album.

Rollicking, rousing, and riotous, Wild Planet soars on vocal efforts put forth by the delightfully campy chanteuses Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson, whose innocent girly tonalities wonderfully match up with Fred Schneiders effeminate deliveries and manic presentations. While the sheer exuberance and giddy nature of the music tends to make them an afterthought, the trios harmonies are utterly amazing. Add in Ricky Wilsons propulsive beach-bound guitar riffs, random squealing synthesizers, and a surfeit of danceable rhythms, and you have nothing less than a 1980s masterpiece that, due to its optimistic vibes and buoyant grooves, only gets better with time.

As for clever humor and quirky character? Everywhere. Mentions of an icebox, fruit punch, and surprise greetings kick off the defining Party Out of Bounds. Private Idaho is an instant mix-tape essential, sent up with declamatory refrains and insouciant beats. Not to be outdone, the B-52s tackle the subject of devilish possession on the witty Devil In My Car and get hysterical on Strobe Light, surely the finest tune ever written about making love in the shadow of a pulsating illumination device. Schneider is on fire, embracing his sexuality while pushing his mates to new limits. Theres no serious matter here; Wild Planet is all about celebrating, and few records do a better job of capturing such a mood.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, Silver Series numbered limited edition LP presents the B-52s 1980 classic in a rousing fidelity that will have you wanting to jump off your furniture, lampshade on head. The all-important bass lines, divergent vocal timbres, and usually unnoticed guitar lines attain an unprecedented level of balance and realism. And, few bands took advantage of the large-format LP cover art like the B-52s. The cover portrait of these fashionistas is reason enough to get these extraordinary reissue, which takes great pride in reproducing the original art right down to the last smear of eyeliner of Piersons face.

Limited Edition Debut EP Of 1000

500 Clear, 500 White Vinyl (Colors Shipped At Random)

Heavy Card Sleeve With Gloss Finish

Doss bursts forth into our reality by stepping sideways from one where the
90s boom never ended - an alternate Earth of curved, shining surfaces and
    strobing colours.

As a producer and singer exploring Electronica as a concept, Doss sidesteps
the revivalist tag by reaching across genres, from trip hop and trance to liquid
drum & bass and Eurodance, and warping them into something
    simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic.

Perhaps what makes her music so vital is that she manages to avoid using her
influences as obvious templates. Instead, she uses particular genre tropes as
tools in a contemporary, almost EDM, context; a place where the synth
melodies of Crystal Waters and Love, Inc. coexist with the slinking shuffle of
    LTJ Bukem and Fabio.

Doss makes bold, emotional pop music that bursts with imagination. But
beyond the sheen there is a complex fragility reminding us that glossy
fantasies are just as interesting for their subtext..

FRKWYS Vol. 12: We Know Each Other Somehow

We Know Each Other Somehow is the twelfth volume of FRKWYS, the music,
film, and event series celebrating intergenerational collaboration. For this
installment, RVNG Intl. offers a collection of original compositions by Robert
Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Ariel Kalma.

In the four decades since Ariel Kalma's debut album, the privately
pressed Le Temps des Moissons, the French-born Kalma musician has
circulated corners of culture now legend: intrepid excursions as a spiritual
explorer through India and New York in the 1970s, a studio staff position
at the Groupe de Researches Musicales (Pierre Henry's famous musicconcrete
laboratory at INA studios), and training with music / mind /
    meditation institute Arica.

The genesis of this FRKWYS collaboration was inspired in part by Robert
Aiki Aubrey Lowe's first release under his own name, the widely regarded fulllength
Timon Irnok Manta, released for Type in 2012. The album paired two
strobing, drone-oriented pieces in an uncategorizable combine of ambient
synthesizer-music and pulsing rhythms. Lowe also performs his vocal-based
compositions as Lichens and is a frequent collaborator with Om and Nurse
    With Wound.

Chance travel landed Lowe and Kalma in San Francisco at the same time
shortly after the collaboration idea was seeded. Upon meeting, Kalma was
endeared by Lowe's unique set-up, a portable modular synth unit housed in
a vintage luggage case. Kalma recalled his own adventures when he traveled
with just a Revox tape-delay machine and saxophone.

Plans were soon settled to record in Kalma's home studio in Main
Arm, a remote community on the eastern Australian coast, around Lowe's
serendipitous tour dates with Om. The pastoral life that Kalma had settled
into eons earlier vastly informed the character of the recording. Similarly
mined by Ariel Kalma in his 1978 album Osmose, itself a collaboration with
sculptor Richard Tinti, field recordings are embraced throughout We Know
Each Other Somehow as a key harmonic and timbral element with which to
    adorn.

Described by Lowe in the liner notes as the "collective voice," these
birdsongs, creeks, tributaries and other ambient sonics of Main Arm appear
throughout the album in processed and pure form. Wind instruments and
signal sources are modulated, modified and sustained ad infinitum, cohering
the choir of mother earth with the collaborators' own.

We Know Each Other Somehow is accompanied by a feature length
exploratory documentary based on the collaboration. Titled Sunshine Soup
and directed by multitalented designers / artists Misha Hollenbach and
Johann Rashid, the non-linear film is keyed to the outer-boundary music
    created by Lowe and Kalma.

Following up his 2014 archival collection An Evolutionary Music (Original
Recordings 1972 - 1979), Kalma found an ideal collaborator in Lowe and an
ideal opportunity to innovate in the field of modularly synthesized electronic
music which he helped pioneer. Voyaging along parallel paths until now, We
Know Each Other Somehow shows these artists summoning another world
in an otherworldly part of the planet, merging the collective voice with their
    own.
