With their third album, 1968's Waiting For The Sun, The Doors took a noticeably mellower turn, delivering some fine melodic ballad rock songs like Hello, I Love You, Love Street and Wintertime Love while still retaining their former power with tracks like The Unknown Soldier, Spanish Caravan and the apocalyptic Five To One. The Doors' newfound sensibility not only helped the band produce one of their most diverse releases, it also resulted in their first and only #1 album. Here on 200g 45RPM 2LP.

    Strange Country

New West Records is proud to present Strange Country, the new full-length album from the young and gifted cousin-duo Kacy & Clayton. The ten-song collection was recorded over seven freezing Canadian winter days at Ghetto Box Studios, a historic community hall turned studio. The product of a lifetime of deep kinship, the record showcases the purity and astounding beauty of Kacy Anderson's voice, one that has been notably compared to Fairport Convention's Sandy Denny. Only Clayton Linthicum's intricate guitar work, expert time changes and vocal harmonies could forge the foundation for Kacy's voice to soar even higher - the result being an enormously satisfying and organic album. Drawing a wide swath of inspirations ranging from the Greenwich Village folk scene to the ancestral music of Southern Appalachia and the British Isles, the cousins fashion songs steeped in those traditions, simultaneously paying homage and building on those sounds.

    Strange Desire

Bleachers will release debut album 'Strange Desire' on RCA Records. The highly anticipated album was written and produced by Grammy Award winning musician Jack Antonoff with co-producer John Hill (MIA, Jay Z, Empire of the Sun) as well as Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yaz, Erasure) and others.

"It's the 2 words that perfectly title what this Bleachers album is as a documentation of my life as I can remember it at this point", wrote Antonoff yesterday afternoon in the Craigslist ad he posted announcing the album title.

Bleachers first single "I Wanna Get Better" has already streamed over 1.5 million times, was deemed "the song of the summer in February" by the Huffington Post and quickly skyrocketed into the top 10 at Alt radio.

Since the Bleachers launch in February critics have been nothing but excited and eager to hear more. Rolling Stone exclaimed "We'll be shocked if it's not all over the radio by spring", TIME raved " it's exciting to imagine what else Antonoff has up his sleeve" and Hilly Dilly proclaimed " this is the kind of music that can't get big enough."

Hailing from New Jersey, 29 year old Jack Antonoff has been in the music scene for over a decade. In 2002, with Jack as the lead singer, the success of New Jersey born indie rock band Steel Train was well underway. Steel Train's cult following lead them to make their national television debut on Late Night With Conan O'Brien and later appeared on Late Show With David Letterman. In 2008, Jack joined Nate Ruess and Andrew Dost to form the Grammy award winning fun.

In addition to being a multi-talented musician, Jack is a critically acclaimed songwriter and producer. His achievements include fun. being honored with the Vanguard Award at the 2014 ASCAP Pop Music Awards and co-writing fun.'s Grammy award winning song "We Are Young" and Grammy nominated album Some Nights. He also received a Golden Globe nomination for his collaboration with Taylor Swift on her song "Sweeter Than Fiction. Strange Weekend (Awaiting Repress)

Strange Weekend is Porcelain Rafts debut record, yet in many ways its his 156th. Somewhere in New York, Rome, or maybe London, there is a suitcase full of tapes, minidiscs and CDs, days and days worth of music, all of it the result of Mauro Remiddis 27 years of travels across Europe, from his native Italy to London; of caravaning with the Berlin Youth Circus playing traditional gypsy Klezmer music; of reinterpreting traditional music in North Korea; and of a stint playing piano for an Off Broadway tap dance show.

Amazingly, Strange Weekend, with deep roots in so many times and places, is an album that beautifully captures the fleeting right now. Remiddis interest in movement, about capturing a momentary now en route to the next, is apparent; postcards and polaroids of buildings and faces from the street flicker past. The projects genesis lies in this visual imagery. Over the past year, Remiddi has compiled a catalogue of images, gathered from the various nooks and crannies of the internet, that have served as notes, inspiration, context and a map for Porcelain Rafts music.

Remiddis androgynous vapor of a voice weaves like a ghost between Nick Gilder and The Alessi Brothers, Julee Cruise and Judee Sill. In more contemporary terms, Porcelain Raft stands confidently on a high hill between the sounds of M83 and Beach House. Lead track Drifting In and Out is loping and anthemic; gauzy and chiming. Shapeless and Gone follows with a heavy strum reminiscent of Cosmic Dancer, full of mood and style without all the wearying excesses and feathered boas. Porcelain Rafts thesis statement hits when side-B kicks off with Unless You Speak From Your Heart. Remiddis enigmatic vocals carrying a hook so simple that you might think you sang it first; keys and bass that might make the needle jump off of your turntable; and a sense of raw sincerity that has come to trademark Remiddis songs is what ultimately resonates.

And here, the myriad travels crystallize into something visceral; you may not be able to see the visuals Remiddi holds so dear, but you can feel them throughout Strange Weekend, and they stay with you as you travel on. Strange Weekend might have been made in a small place (a Brooklyn basement, in fact), but it is huge dream-pop, with melodies and synths billowing out in all directions.

    Strange Weather, Isn't It?

Everyones got a Berlin record in them and I guess we just wanted to see what
ours would sound like, !!!s lead singer Nic Offer says, with tongue partially in
cheek, of the groups fourth album, Strange Weather, Isnt It? Following in the
footsteps of artists like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Depeche Mode, who have
flocked to Berlin in order to mainline the citys legendary dark energy, !!! traveled
to the German capital to produce a record that is simultaneously brooding and
somehow their poppiest, most immediate record yet. !!! has also managed to
create the best distillation of the chaos, fun and intensity of !!!'s live show yet.
Strange Weather, Isnt It? was co-produced by the band with Eric Broucek,
who used to be the house engineer for DFA Records. We used everything we
could MacGyvered it together with a popsicle stick and a rubber band to make
it work and Eric was definitely instrumental in making that happen, says Offer.
The result is an album that is leaner and more detailed than any of !!!s previous
albums. In the early days wed put something deep in the mix, so that kids on
acid could hear it the 20th time they listened to it, says Offer. Now weve
    learned how to make records better. Its like the deep techno you hear in Berlin;
its molded down to its most basic essence, almost like a sculpture that you keep
working on to make it both denser and clearer at the same time. Offer pauses
for a moment to consider what hes saying. Dont get me wrong, though, you
should still check the record out on acid. Trust me.

Play It Strange (Discontinued) (On Sale)

In The Red is proud to announce the release of the new full-length from San Francisco's Fresh & Onlys, Play It Strange. After two albums (on Castle Face and Woodsist, respectively) and too many singles and EPs to count, The Fresh & Onlys deliver their most solid outing yet. Recorded by studio whiz Tim Green during an eight-day session, Play It Strange marks the band's first recording in an actual recording studio. On 2 analog tape! The results are nothing short of incredible. For those unfamiliar with The Fresh & Onlys, their sound draws from jangly psychedelia, Morricone-style Western twang, dark vibes a la Bad Seeds/Gun Club, melodic '60s sunshine pop and a hint of garage rock swagger.

    London Fog 1966

Collector's Edition Boxed Set Features Previously Unheard Concert Recordings From 1966 On CD And Vinyl

Includes 8 x 10 Prints Of Unseen Photos And Replica Memorabilia

Before The Doors took the music scene by storm in 1967, they were the house band at the London Fog, a Sunset Strip dive bar located just footsteps away from the world famous Whisky a Go Go, the future home of many of the band's most legendary performances. The Doors will open a virtual time capsule in December with LONDON FOG 1966, a Collector's Edition boxed set that features unearthed audio recorded at the club in May 1966. Previously unreleased and not even known to exist until recently, this marks the earliest recordings of the band and finds the quartet mixing blues covers with early versions of Doors originals.

LONDON FOG 1966 will be available as an individually numbered limited edition of 18,000 copies from Rhino/Bright Midnight Archives. Presented in a lift-top package designed to look like a vintage storage box, the set features seven songs on both CD and a 10-inch record that's made to resemble a test pressing. Noted Doors engineer Bruce Botnick recently mastered the audio for this collection.

Along with the unreleased music, the set is packed with memorabilia and historic liner notes to provide a true time capsule of that fabled night at the London Fog, including a poster, the set list handwritten by John Densmore, a program for the Royce Hall UCLA student film screening, plus a London Fog coaster. There are also liner notes included from Sunset Strip legend Ronnie Haran-Mellen, who was the talent booker at the Whisky a Go Go. Haran-Mellen saw The Doors live for the first time at the London Fog and then booked them as the permanent house band at the Whisky, leading to the band's signing to Elektra and meteoric rise to superstardom.

Also contributing liner notes is Nettie Peña, one of the lucky few to be in attendance at the London Fog for this fabled show. Peña was a pivotal force in this release coming together as she captured the audio on a ¼" reel to reel recorder, which was the property of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Her father was a teacher for LAUSD and let her borrow the recorder to take to the show. Peña also photographed the band that evening and five black and white 8x10 reprints of these unpublished photos are included in the Collector's Edition, featuring a fresh-faced Morrison on a cramped stage with John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.

The show featured on LONDON FOG 1966 took place the same year that The Doors recorded their eponymous debut. Released in January 1967, the album would become one of the most influential in rock history. Like many of the band's early concerts, the show captured on this deluxe set reflects the group's deep love for the blues with covers of standards like Muddy Waters' "Rock Me" and "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man." The set also includes raw performances of "Baby, Please Don't Go" (Big Joe Williams), "Don't Fight It" (Wilson Pickett), and "Lucille" (Little Richard).

During their residency at the London Fog, The Doors frequently worked out new songs on stage that would eventually appear on various studio albums. At this show, the band played two originals. The first, "Strange Days," would become the title track for the band's second studio album, which also came out in 1967. This is one of the only known live recordings of this track. The other Doors original, "You Make Me Real," wasn't officially released on a studio album until Morrison Hotel in 1970.

"To hear 'Strange Days,' that came out on their second album, in almost final shape so early on was truly amazing," says Jac Holzman, the President of Elektra Records who signed The Doors to their first recording contract.

Going back to the band's earliest days is a natural starting point for The Doors 50th anniversary celebration.

Nate Dogg is one of the greatest singers in hip-hop's history; his ultra-smooth, church-honed voice was the key ingredient in dozens of classic singles throughout the '90s and '00s.

He apparently never got paid for many of his early Death Row hits, and he finally left the label to release this, his long-awaited debut solo album. Upon dropping independently in 1998, it never got much exposure. Yet years later, it still impresses with 31 tracks absolutely overflowing with Nate's inimitable vocals and top-notch G-funk production from the likes of Daz Dillinger, QD3, and Warren G, among others.

The lyrics mostly concern ladies, homies, and the streets, with his uncanny ability to bounce between bravado and a sensitive lover-man style showcased throughout. Nate Dogg remains the soul of hip-hop, and his amazing music should live on forever. Highlights here include Because I Got a Girl, She's Strange, Friends, These Days, and Nobody Does It Better.

    Pond Scum

There are no Peel sessions anymore - that tradition was buried in the pyramids with John Peel himself upon the great man's passing. Of the thousands left in the wake, six are ascribed to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - and of those six, three have been combined to form the deeply congruous experience of Pond Scum. A span of eight years is covered, in reverse, and many chestnuts are rolled out, freed of former contexts with sparse arrangements. (I Was Drunk at the) Pulpit feels, ten years from inception, more vividly worn; Death to Everyone is loosed from its frame, the bones decoupled and spread out, giving the song a reective air (as opposed the biting declamation of the original); Arise, Therefore adapts its metronomic base, the evangelic twist of its roots made palpable. With the center of the performance in stark relief, the gnomic qualities of two Get On Jolly pieces are intensied. Further accenting the devoted spirit of this collection is the inclusion of Bonnie's take on Prince's The Cross, as well as the previously-unreleased original Beezle.

Bonnie's lone shadow casts over this lot, accompanied on the rst four tracks by David Heumann, but otherwise playing solo through a set of original songs (and two covers) representing a decade of progress in the almost unbearably intimate-yet-unknowable manner that was so often the vibe of those strange and wondrous days. Layers peel to reveal the subtle artistry and refinement contained within these sessions, so begin to dig deep into the vault!

    Tomorrow's Hits

After spending much of 2011 and 2012 on the road, including a trip upstate to
write and record New Moon, their fourth full-length in as many years, The Men
needed a break. They decided to take the winter of 2012 off to work on new
material in Brooklyn. The converted founding member Mark Perro's bedroom
in Bushwick into a practice space and rehearsed there nearly every day for three
months, cutting more than 40 demos. By the end of that winter, the Men had
pared that crop of songs down to 13. With their plans to take a break foiled by
their own work ethic, they decided to record those songs before New Moon came
out. They booked two days at Brooklyn's Strange Weather studios, clocked in,
and tracked all 13 songs entirely live, even including a horn section.

Eight songs from those sessions made the final cut for The Men's new LP,
Tomorrow's Hits. This is their first album recorded in a high-end studio and,
appropriately, the result is their most high fidelity album to date. That being said,
it is still an incredibly straightforward record. Tomorrow's Hits is a concise
collection of songs that nonetheless expands the band's ever-evolving musical
palette. It's full of genre-bending risks, but it reinforces the overarching theme
that has come to define its makers: The Men are a great rock band.

    Once More Round The Sun

Art is a cyclical beast. The same can easily be said of Grammy Award nominated hard rock juggernaut Mastodon. The group's four members recognize the importance of life's omnipresent cycles on their sixth full-length album, Once More 'Round the Sun. The band orbits around themes of loss and rebirth, twirling a sonic spiral of its signature robust riffing, hypnotically haunting soundscapes, triage of dynamic voices, and thundering seismic grooves.

The very title says something slightly different for each member. Quite literally, Once More 'Round the Sun means a year-in-the-life, explains Dailor. Lyrically, we were discussing things that happened to us recently, whereas in the past we looked further back for inspiration. It's about 365 days in this band. It was a tough and strange journey. We happened to be in the middle of completing a full rotation musically as everything else was going on.

Cryptacize deals in the unforgettable melody, the forsaken chord and the extravagant sentiment. The surefooted and richly nuanced vocal arabesques of Nedelle Torrisi, like a modern day Freddie Mercury or Ronnie Spector, strangely complement the guitar of Chris Cohen, which sounds like a maniacally sped-up a la Les Paul or staccato and funny like Roy Smeck or Adolph Jacobs of the Coasters. Syncopated drum corps rudiments and pit-orchestra rave-ups from Michael Carreira propel the songs with a refreshingly buoyant touch that never lapses into rock music clich?s. There are also widescreen cinematic moments that take on a mournful and otherworldly pathos, like Experiment in Terror by Henry Mancini, but with vocals by Cambodian 60's pop legend Ros Serey Sothea or like Arabic diva Fairouz singing along to a psychedelic film score by Popol Vuh.

    I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy

Miniature Tigers mastermind Charlie Brand has been in a relationship with actress Mae Whitman for a while now, and things seem to be going great. How do I know this? Well, there are interviews from both Brand and Whitman out there that say so, but for the purposes of this review, Exhibit A is the new Miniature Tigers record. I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy is a loose concept album about being in love, complete with sappy ballads, angst that it's all going to fall apart, and even the concept album staple-a dream sequence.

Two things are striking about this album from the get-go. There's a warmth and intimacy to opener "My Girl Forever" that sticks around for the length of the album. Brand, it turns out, is pretty good at producing indie-pop that sounds honestly romantic. That warmth makes a cheesy sentiment like, "You will be my friend forever / You will be my girlfriend" sound lovely. The other thing is the song's opening electric guitar riff, which sounds slightly out of tune. That riff runs through the entire song and eventually normalizes even though it never ends up being quite in tune. It's a weird element and a portent that Brand is going to re-embrace the off-kilter sounds that dominated Miniature Tigers' early records.

"Dreaming" is a relaxed, slightly Caribbean-styled song dominated by a bassline played on a bass marimba and a repeating high register xylophone-esque note run. Both are cool effects that give the song a nice groove. This leads right into "I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy", where Whitman takes the lead vocals. Her breathy, quiet singing fits in snugly with the song's languid vibe. "I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy" also works as a transition point on the album. Afterward, the songs are more idiosyncratic and often more interesting.

"Wish It Was Now" is a '60s-style folk song that hits all the right buttons. A pile of acoustic guitars is accompanied by a jangling tambourine while Brand sings possibly the best melody on the album. The multi-layered vocals on the chorus, a simple recitation of "wish it was now", are beautiful, and it all meshes together into a sublime moment. "Wheat" features a prominent pedal steel guitar and some nicely placed percussion rattles, giving the song a light Texas country feel.

Then there's "Nobody Else", which features an out-of-nowhere sample of obscure '60s singer Millie Small with her lovely high-pitched squeak of a voice. The song opens with Small singing "What am I living for / If not for you, baby!", then uses that "baby!" as the song's anchor and hype man, punctuating many of Brand's lines. The song itself is a catchy, piano-based ballad with a warm '70s soft rock bridge, but the sample sells it. It's so effective that once you've heard the song a few times, you want to hear her "baby!" at the end of every line, not just occasionally.

The record ends with two quiet songs, either of which would make a solid closer, but they represent two different moods. "I Never Want Our Love to End" is sparsely arranged with great harmonies, but the overwhelming feeling is melancholy as Brand sings about his insecurities. "I'm Awake Now" uses both chirpy and lush synths to provide a sunny, relaxed, early morning feel. Lyrically, though, the song starts out depressed as Brand contemplates the fact that he's so damn happy in bed with his new girl but that they're both going to have to leave, and it will be over. But the song ends with him deciding that he's going to do whatever it takes to make what's apparently a one-night stand into a relationship.

This kind of unabashed romanticism shouldn't really work. And in the past, Miniature Tigers' attempts at straight-up love songs haven't always been successful. But Brand's honesty goes a long way here, and his willingness to use unusual sounds cuts through the cheese to make the album just a bit weird. I Dreamt I Was a Cowboy ends up effectively splitting the difference between the band's early days of twee sounds with strange lyrics and their middle period of big hooks but not very distinctive sounds.

Drawing on fractured psych, girl groups and minimalist composers, Secret Cities have conjured a kaleidoscopic, strangely moving whole out of disparate pieces. Distorted loops, drones, and thundering toms underpin distant voices. Pianos are pounded. Grainy acoustic guitars come through like AM transmissions received deep underground. But even as strange sounds and frequencies get pushed out front, the melodies get top billing. From the galloping heartbreak of opener Pink City to the final, cathartic release of The End, Pink Graffiti is pop music turned in on itself.

Long Slow Dance is the new Mexican Summer release from San Francisco garage rockers The Fresh & Onlys (Tim Cohen, Shayde Sartin, Wymond Miles, Kyle Gibson) and fourth full-length overall.

Following-up 2009's Play It Strange and preceded by lead single Yes or No, Long Slow Dance was produced by Phil Manley (Barn Owl, the Fucking Champs, Wooden Shjips) and captured on the same reel-to-reel that Warren Zevon recorded "Werewolves of London."

    East Is East

In East is East, Pepi Ginsberg and her collaborators step into the golden hour of the day and embrace The most ephemeral of seasons. A mood and a time where we know that change is coming in the form of a cool wind; we hold on until we let go. The song 'Summer Sick as Love' accomplishes this feeling, with its mythical descriptions of gutter punks and wind ravaged stop-signs. Ginsberg, with arrangements expertly handled by her band, creates a world with East is East, that is the season in between, and parts the waters, navigating change in the sea of these strange times.

    Mansion Songs (Discontinued) (On Sale)

Redemption comes in a multitude of forms. For Ethan Miller, it has arrived amid catharsis and transformation. The Howlin Rain we thought we knew has evolved, on Miller's newest, Mansion Songs, into something strange and true and beautiful, a sound made of cigarette ash and swollen moons, salt air and the eggshell light that comes just before the dawn.

The result is an album that pines and yearns, lusts and wails. "Meet Me in the Wheat," "Big Red Moon" and "Wild Bush" push the album into high gear, up-tempo jammers that form the yang to the mellow yin of the album's deep feel ballads. Tracks like "Restless" and "Lucy Fairchild" ache like raw wounds or sway like lost, half-sunken ships. "New Age" is bright and clear-eyed and full of wary joy. "Coliseum" prowls, red-veined and hungry - claws out and teeth sharp.
