    Innervisions (Colored)

Ranked 23/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The sixteenth album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973 on Motown Records; a landmark recording of his classic period. The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues: from drug abuse in Too High, through social anger in Living for the City, to love in the ballads All in Love is Fair and Golden Lady.

As with many of Stevie Wonder's albums the lyrics, composition and production are almost entirely his own work, with the ARP synthesizer used prominently throughout the album. This instrument was a common motif among musicians of the time because of its ability to construct a complete sound environment. Wonder was the first black artist to experiment with this technology on a mass scale, and Innervisions was hugely influential on the subsequent future of commercial black music. He also played all or virtually all instruments on six of the album's nine tracks, making most of Innervisions a representative one-man band.

I Was Made To Love Her

This album was rushed out to capitalize on the success of the title song, which was Stevie Wonder's biggest pop hit since Fingertips, Pt. 2, and would not be bettered until Superstition in 1972. There are several contributions from the Stevie Wonder team at Motown, covers of other Motown hits, and stabs at sounding like Ray Charles, James Brown, and Otis Redding. At 17, Stevie Wonder was becoming both a remarkable mimic, and an original talent on his own.

Songs In The Key Of Life

No. 56 On Rolling Stone's List Of 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time

    2x 180 Gram Vinyl + Bonus 7-Inch EP

Two years in the making, Songs In The Key Of Life is a groundbreaking sonic masterpiece that brilliantly brings together Stevie Wonder's genius for pop music, his bold experimentation, and his lyrical humanitarian concerns. Released on the Tamla label by Motown in late September 1976, the 21-song album remains an immeasurable influential recording.

A critically acclaimed double-LP that includes a four-song bonus EP and a 24-page booklet, Songs In The Key Of Life is the first album by an American artist, and the first double-album, to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Album Chart. The album won the Grammy® for Album of the Year; Wonder also won for Producer of the Year; Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male; and Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male. The latter was awarded for "I Wish," the first single from the album, which hit No. 1 Pop and R&B. "Sir Duke," the follow-up single, was No. 1 on both charts as well, while "Another Star" and "As" were each Top 40 hits on the Pop and R&B charts; "Another Star" was also a top 3 club chart hit. Among the album's many other notable tracks, "Isn't She Lovely" was a hit without being released as a single; "Pastime Paradise" became the basis of Coolio's 1995 rap hit "Gangsta's Paradise," a No. 1 hit in many countries worldwide. A cover of "As," by George Michael and Mary J. Blige, was a top 5 hit in the U.K. in 1999. That same year, "I Wish" was prominently sampled in the No. 1 hit by Will Smith, "Wild Wild West."

Songs In The Key Of Life, with Wonder and his band Wonderlove accompanied by all-star musicians and singers, is No. 56 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." It is one of the few albums to be awarded Diamond status by the RIAA, for sales of more than ten million copies in the U.S.

    Talking Book

Ranked 90/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Stevie Wonder established an incredible precedent between 1971 and 1976, releasing six of the most groundbreaking, genre-blurring, genius albums ever made. Composed and written at a time when his marriage was his collapsing, the largely uplifting and eminently soulful Talking Book is arguably the best of those trailblazing records. Wonder manages to not only to restore faith in love, he also includes smart political commentary, personal-is-political messages, empowering statements, and exorcises the frustrations associated with heartbreak. Few efforts are more emotionally intense and consistently enriching.

In addition to striking diversity and passionate reach, Talking Book continues to speak to listeners nearly 40 years later because of how much of Wonder himself is invested in the songs. With everlasting proclamations like "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will be Forever)" and "You and I (We Can Conquer the World," Wonder transcends his excruciating pain and clung to the concept of love as a higher power. Similarly, he stakes an equal part of himself in fare that confronts woe head-on ("Tuesday Heartbreak") and reels off one of the most famous ballads ("You Are the Sunshine of My Life") in history.

Musically, Wonder is clearly tapped into a spiritual plane, the arrangements encompassing an array of moods and styles: rocking and funky ("Superstition"), mellow and poignant, grooving and exuberant. Jeff Beck's guitar solo on "Lookin' for Another Pure Love" takes the song to a new level, and guests David Sanborn, Buzzy Fenton, and Ray Parker Jr. round out what's an almost impossibly perfectly unified album.

    Both Sides of the Gun

With the release of his seventh studio album, Both Sides of the Gun, Ben Harper offers his signature mix of rock, soul and folk music, while also venturing into new territory. I was hoping I could come back to the root of my earlier records, the sparseness and intimacy, he says, and also branch out further in a produced sound than ever before. From the blazing Curtis Mayfield/Stevie Wonder-style funk of Black Rain to the gentle sway of Morning Yearning to the full-on power ballad Waiting for You, the eighteen songs on Both Sides Of The Gun reveal a master stylist at the peak of his game. Mother's Milk

1989's Mother's Milk is the album that broke the Red Hot Chili Peppers into the rock mainstream. Despite suffering the loss of drummer Jack Irons and guitarist Hillel Slovak a year earlier, founding members Anthony Kiedis and Flea found exceptional replacements in Chad Smith and John Frusciante. A cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground and a tribute to Slovak, Knock Me Down, were both big MTV successes, as were such other highlights as Taste the Pain (featured prominently in the movie Say Anything), Good Time Boys, Subway to Venus, Magic Johnson and Sexy Mexican Maid.

The album features the hits "Part-Time Lover", "Go Home" and "Overjoyed" (which was left off Wonder's 1979 album Journey through the Secret Life of Plants and re-recorded for this album).

In Square Circle broke into the Top 5 on the Pop Albums chart and spent twelve weeks at #1 on the Top R&B Albums chart.

"Go Home" was performed during the Grammy awards ceremony in 1985, in the famous synthesizer jam with Thomas Dolby, Herbie Hancock and Howard Jones.

The Jazz Soul Of Little Stevie

Detroit, Michigan's own Stevland Hardaway Morris - known to the world as Stevie Wonder - burst onto the scene in 1962 with this, his debut album, after being discovered by Ronnie White of The Miracles. Though it did not produce a hit, The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie showcases the immense songwriting and instrumental chops of the then 12 year old Wonder. Wonder plays keyboards, harmonica, and percussion here and the album includes the original studio version of Fingertips, whose live version (Fingertips Pt. 2) would become his first major national hit a year later. Own a piece of early Motown history with this glorious LP reissue of the debut LP from the legendary Stevie Wonder.

    Songs From The West Coast

Guests include Stevie Wonder, Rufus Wainright and Garly Barlow. On 180-gram heavyweight vinyl. First time on vinyl and one in a series of vinyl releases to mark Elton John's 50th anniversary in the music industry.

    Tribute to Uncle Ray

Wonder's second LP, recorded and released when he was only 12 years old, is a tribute to Ray Charles. As the original liner notes state, Little Stevie Wonder, Tamla's 11-year-old musical genius, is blind, a similarity he shares with a famed musician and vocalist of today. Though this is perhaps not the most subtle of tribute albums and a clear cash in attempt from Motown, who were still looking for a way to market their new-found talent, the results are still fantastic. Little Stevie powers his way through a grip of Charles' classics as well as some original songs done in the Charles style and while the LP failed to score a hit, it's an enjoyable listen that shows a glimpse of the super star talent that was soon to emerge.
