    Passion & Warfare

Steve Vai started his career working for the legendary Frank Zappa. Later on he recorded and toured with Public Image Ltd., Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake. Passion And Warfare is his second solo album and was released in 1990. It is acclaimed as his best album, finding him coming into his own as a composer, as well as bypassing vocals almost entirely. Because Vai is a much more distinguished composer than most of his guitar-shredder colleagues, who most of the time are simply showing off their technique, Passion And Warfare is possibly one of the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso albums ever.

    Surfing With The Alien

Joe Satriani is one of the world's best and most well-known guitarists. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and among his students were now famous guitarists Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter and Alex Skolnick. He himself is influenced by blues-rock guitar icons such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and Jeff Beck. Satriani worked with a range of musicians from several musical genres, including Mick Jagger, Deep Purple, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Brian May, Patrick Rondat, Paul Gilbert, Adrian Legg, and Robert Fripp. He is currently the lead guitarist for the supergroup Chickenfoot.

'Surfing with the Alien' is Satriani's second album, released in 1987 and meant his breakthrough to a larger audience. It was the first instrumental rock record to enter the charts in a very long time. Although the album contains fast and complex songs as well as slower, melodic songs Satriani's unique style is always easily recognizable.

    The Story Of Light

'The Story of Light', a new solo album of original material by virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer Steve Vai. The title comes out on Favored Nations Entertainment, the label Vai founded in 1999. Its sprawling and expressive 12-song set continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc begun on the artist's acclaimed 2005 album 'Real Illusions: Reflections'.

Throughout, three-time Grammy winner Vai's lead guitar is as lyrically resonant as it is technically masterful, his licks and solos bending sounds and in listeners' minds in equal measure. 'The Story of Light' follows the journey of a man driven mad by grief, intertwining tragedy, revelation, enlightenment, and redemption.

'I m always pursuing knowledge. I'm a seeker of spiritual equilibrium and music is a big part of that,' says Vai. 'I've been obsessed with these kinds of ideas for years.'

    Eat 'Em And Smile

After his first successful run with the mighty Van Halen in 1984, the legendary David Lee Roth embarked on an amazing solo career which yielded him enough gold and platinum records that King Midas would be envious.

Eat Em And Smile was a huge success for Roth in 1986, yielding a chart topping rock album as well as ranking up several Top 40 singles with heavy rockers like Goin Crazy and Yankee Rose. Armed with an incredible batch of tunes and his super power trio of legendary shredders Steve Vai (guitars), Billy Sheehan (bass) and Gregg Bissonette (drums), Eat Em And Smile went on to become one of this artists most enduring and critically acclaimed works.

As Friday Music continues to re-release some of the finest music ever from David Lee Roth, they're proud to offer for the very first time on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl, the classic Eat Em And Smile.

As a first installment in their exclusive David Lee Roth 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series, this massive limited edition metal masterpiece has been mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso from the original Warner Bros. tapes at Friday Music Studios and Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA.

    Go!

    Pressed On Clear Blue Vinyl

"Go!," the latest single from symphonic-indie-electronic-dream
pop powerhouse, M83, seems at first like a characteristically
"epic" M83 song. Taken from 2016's Junk, it opens with
breathy vocals from French singer Mai Lan and lyrics that
suggests romantic situations that teenagers always seem to find
    themselves in.

Then, out of nowehere, Steve Vai bursts through to play a
guitar solo made of glowsticks. Wait, Steve Vai? The legendary
virtuoso guitar hero who defined an era? Correct. The mood
of the song flips entirely, as his solo becomes the colorfully
explosive conclusion at the end of a perfunctory night of
fireworks. It feels complete; it feels epic.

"Go!" is available as a limited edition blue 12" vinyl via Mute, alongside the original single, a tender
unreleased ballad called "Altered Love," the recently released
cosmic dub remix of the title track by Animal Collective's
Deakin, and an unreleased 8-bit version of "Go!".

    Junk

"On the last album, there was too much of me." That's how Anthony
Gonzalez - the sonic auteur behind that most sublime purveyor of
symphonic-indie-electronic-dream pop, M83, describes the primary
inspiration behind his forthcoming album Junk, released on April 8 by Mute.
Highly anticipated, Junk is not just M83's first studio artist album in half
a decade; it's also the follow-up to Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - which
upon release in 2011 put M83 in the direct current of the mainstream. So
why would Gonzalez try to remove himself from its follow-up and supplant
himself with the surprising likes of Beck and Steve Vai. Wait, Steve Vai?
The legendary virtuoso guitar hero who defined an era? On a M83 album in
    2016?

In trying to "remove" his identifiable musical presence, ironically Gonzalez
may have made one of his most personal efforts yet in Junk and with no
compromise. With Junk, M83 has succeeded in making what Gonzalez
called "an organized mess - a collection of songs that aren't made to live
with each other, yet somehow work together. From album opener "Do It
Try It", a fractured yet catchy mÉlange of old-school house music pianos
and pop-art bubblegum hooks worthy of ABBA, to "Moon Crystal," an
instrumental whose mutant retro-futurist grooves evoke Genesis doing a
prog-disco remix of the Love Boat theme, to the smooth new wave-meets-electro-funk
workout "Time Wind" (featuring vocals by Beck) to "Go!", an
exultant synth-pop charmer featuring vocals from new M83 collaborator
Mai Lan and guitar solo from legendary shredder, Steve Vai, one thing is
perfectly clear: "Every time I make a M83 album, I'm trying to do it on my
own terms - and it's the same for this one," Gonzalez says. "Whatever I do,
whatever influences I have, it ends up sounding like me. As a musician, I'm
just trying to take you somewhere else, beyond your world."

Brendon Small - the mastermind behind massive metal band Dethklok and albums The Dethalbum (the highest-charting death metal album ever on the Billboard Top 200 chart), Dethalbum II, Dethalbum III and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem - has been teasing a new chapter of his popular Galaktikon saga for months. After spending the past two years writing and recording new material and dropping random hints throughout the media and at appearances, the wait is over.

This year, marking the 10 year anniversary of his breakout Dethklok release, The Dethalbum, Brendon Small will reveal his upcoming high-stakes intergalactic extreme rock/metal album, Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, to the masses.

Galaktikon II: Become The Storm follows the space-age theme of 2012's original Galaktikon album, with a conceptual storyline and a heavier, darker, more brutal sound. In addition to Brendon Small on vocals and guitar, the new album will feature acclaimed musicians and Dethklok alum Bryan Beller (bass/The Aristocrats, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai) and Gene Hoglan (drums/Testament, Death, Dark Angel). Galaktikon II: Become The Storm was co-produced by Small and Grammy-nominated producer/engineer Ulrich Wild, who also worked behind the board on the Dethklok albums.

With these names behind the project, it should come as no surprise that Galaktikon II: Become The Storm is a welcomed transformation and expansion of the sound that put Brendon Small on the musical map. With uncapped time and creativity on their side, Small & Co. were able to reach above and beyond what fans have come to expect as of now. Galaktikon II: Become The Storm proves to be Small's most commanding release yet.

This record is a combination of all the sounds I've been making throughout my creative life, says Brendon Small. It's as heavy as I want it to be and melodic as I want it to be - it's the bigger, darker record I wanted to hear. And what a way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary of making metal with Gene, Bryan and Ulrich, some of the best in the industry. I'm excited to have it live inside listeners' heads and let their imaginations take over!

"Any band would have been hard-pressed to follow the success of a multi-platinum album with another one of equal or higher quality both critically and commercially. Needless to say, that's exactly what David Coverdale and Whitesnake were faced with when it came time to record 1989's Slip of the Tongue, the follow-up to their 1987 smash self-titled LP. To complicate matters, Coverdale lost Irish guitarist Vivian Campbell during pre-recording sessions due to artistic differences, and his songwriting partner and lead guitarist, Adrian Vandenberg, injured himself to the degree that he couldn't play; he did some early work that made it on to the final album. Coverdale, faced with a quickly approaching deadline and pressure from management and the label finally recruited former Frank Zappa guitarist Steve Vai to fill the chair. The album ended up being Whitesnake's third platinum recording." - Allmusic.com
