    Peng!

Originally released in 1992, Peng! is the second full-length album by sonic experimentalists Stereolab. Sometimes jam-packed with thundering keyboards and driving drums, at other times ethereal, airy and light, Peng! captures this thinking man's band at the early stages of its prolific career. Emulating aspects of the Velvet Underground's rhythms as well as the Moog-happy keyboard euphonies of the early 1970s, Stereolab's far left-of-center pop vision has always been something of a love-'em-or-hate-'em proposition. Longtime fans familiar with the band's later work will find interest in this early recording as it includes the moody, cafe-styled K-Stars sung fetchingly in French by Leatitia Sadier. There's also the dry, rub-a-dub guitar of Perversion, which is a dissertation over post-modern music.

    Pressed At RTI

    Mastered From The Original Reels

One of the most remarkable unheard albums of 1969, Genesis, the sole release by San Francisco-based sisters Wendy and Bonnie Flower, has emerged as an acclaimed pop-psych touchstone. Brimming with melodic confections and laced with radiant, sisterly harmonies, the set's breezy Brazilian splashes and soft-rock strains convey a sophistication that belies the artists' tender ages (Wendy, 17; Bonnie, 13). The album has grown over the years in importance, and has influenced a generation of psychedelic pioneers, from Broadcast to Stereolab to Welsh rockers Super Furry Animals ( who sampled the duo on their hit hello Sunshine) This 180 gram single-LP edition is pressed at RTI and is an exact replica of the original 1969 pressing, with fully restored cover art and incredible sonics mastered from the original reels.

The Groop Played Space Age Bactchelor Pad Music

Released in 1993, The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad EP is Stereolab's most experimental work, featuring the band's twin obsessions, krautrock-derived electronic minimalism and lush pop owing much to both Brian Wilson and Ray Conniff. The two styles are presented separately, in relatively short pieces, rather than combined into the lengthy sonic melanges of their other albums. Most of the brief pieces, such as the two title tracks, each subtitled Mellow and Foamy, work best in the context of the whole, but some of the longer songs, particularly the sarcastic Ronco Symphony and We're Not Adult-Orientated, are among the prolific band's best.

    High Fidelity

Original soundtrack to the film High Fidelity (15th Anniversary).

Gen X rock buffs can revel in nostalgia with the High Fidelity soundtrack. The film centers on the romantic escapades of record-store owner and ex-club DJ Rob Gordon (John Cusack) and his full-time obsession with music. Since High Fidelity has as much to do with vinyl addiction as it does with the difficulties of love, great care has been taken with its selection of tracks, a solidly eccentric collection of heartache-heavy pop gems ranging from obscure '60s bands and groundbreaking artists like the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, to Stevie Wonder and Stereolab. As in the film, there's a method to the compilers' elitist rock-geek madness. Even co-star Jack Black's schlocky blue-eyed cover of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On doesn't seem out of place.

The inspired screeches of acid-fried '60s singer-songwriter Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me set the pace for the musing, hangdog tone of the album. Besides the joyous licks of the Kinks' Everybody's Gonna Be Happy and Royal Trux's hybrid of hip-hip, techno, and aggressive rock on Inside Game, the bulk of the set is composed of moody folk-rock tunes like Dylan's exquisite Most of the Time and the Velvets' Oh! Sweet Nuthin. Other noteworthy tracks include Love's Always See Your Face, the Beta Band's Dry the Rain, Elvis Costello's wistful Shipbuilding, the stinging irony of Smog's Cold Blooded Old Times, and Stevie Wonder's soulful optimism on I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever). It's a fine, complementary batch of tunes that not only enhances the film's mood but is integral to its theme, and, as High Fidelity's Rob Gordon would agree, it'll go down as one of the top five soundtracks [originally] released in 2000. - Derrick Mathis (AllMusic)

New 24 Bit /96 kHz Transfer Taken From The Original Master Tapes

    Deluxe Silver Foil Jacket (Tip-On)

    Limited Blue Sky Colored Vinyl

Formed in 1967 as a psychedelic electronic duo featuring Dan Taylor on drums and Simeon on a homemade synthesizer consisting of 12 oscillators (and an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second hand electronic junk), Silver Apples quickly gained a reputations New York's leading underground musical expression.

Their pulsating rhythmic beats with the use of electronics laid the groundwork for what would become "Krautrock."

Silver Apples was released in 1968 and still remains an innovative and revolutionary album. Their highly influential sound has influenced countless bands from Stereolab, Beastie Boys, Blur and more.

The first remarkable trait of Lazy Smoke's sound is the lead vocal's similarity to John Lennon. Upon digging just a little deeper below the surface, we instead find a darker tone and a patient, eerie feeling resonating through the songs.

While bands like The Beatles and Love were singing about love, lament and hallucinated travel experiences, the songs on Corridor of Faces get sincerely dark right away.

Even the seemingly-light teenage love-themed "Sarah Saturday" shares an undercurrent of on-the-edge uncertainty. It's this undercurrent that calls to mind comparisons to Forever Changes era Love. Originally privately pressed in MA in an edition of only 500 copies in 1968. Now repressed again in 2016 on Blue Sky Colored Vinyl.

    Los Angeles

In the aftermath of the Los Angeles LP, Flying Lotus set out his stall at the vanguard of new bass music, remixed the likes of Stereolab and Radiohead and became a regular fixture in 2008's end of year polls.

Now, with L.A. EP 3 X 3, the third and final piece of the accompanying EP series, FlyLo and a few friends explore the psychedelic ambience and dream-like elegance that brought such a vital depth to the album's soul.

Two new Flying Lotus compositions, Endless White and Spin Cycles display his deft touch and unrivalled eye for beauty. Breakage's Testament turns Gonjasufi's quiet desperation into a tribal battle cry. But it is perhaps the collaboration with harpist Rebecca Raff that is most striking, revisioning Auntie's Harp into a swirling symphony of rolling arpeggios and piercing electronics.

    New Weather

With their debut album New Weather has done something rare: they've made the sonic equivalent of visual art. Renown painter Tomory Dodge joins Sean Curley and Amber Rosino in a daring electronic instrumental album. We hear the celestial scrapings of Stockhausen, the minimalism of Kraftwerk or Stereolab, the grooves of Air and the ambient drift of Boards of Canada, even the insistent psychedelia of early Pink Floyd -- all layered masterfully into New Weather's own concoction. Based in Seattle, New Weather will be performing throughout 2013-14 in support of this album.

    Hypnophobia

Hypnophobia, the brand new album from 'baroque pop' prince and
Dutch producer/multi-instrumentalist Jacco Gardner, casts a majestic
and vibrant psychedelic spell that will hypnotise listeners at the point
    dreams and reality meet.

Capturing a true sense of exploration, Hypnophobia combines
Gardner's newfound love of travel with his continued passion for
collecting and playing vintage instruments. A stunning exhibit of lush
instrumental tracks as well as songs that boast lyrics worthy of any
great pop number, the record features a Wurlitzer electric piano that
was purchased on tour, waltzing alongside mellotrons, harpsichords,
an Optigan, and an antique Steinway upright piano sold to Gardner by
    a local church.

Akin to the sonic boom of maverick contemporaries John Maus, and
Tame Impala, his is a sound that holds fast next to fellow paisley
performers Syd Barrett and Curt Boettcher, with the airy dynamics of
Stereolab or Simon & Garfunkel. Yet what truly marks Gardner from
his musical ancestors and accomplices is his forward-thinking, hi-tech
approach; "Hypnophobia is the next step into an alternate reality
influenced by the present. I'm so inspired by today's technology that
many things I do were not possible in the past."

    Passage (Awaiting Repress)

Brooklyn, NY's Exitmusic, comprised of Devon Church and Aleksa Palladino, present their debut album, Passage. The 10-song set is a collection of newly-written songs and some of their older tunes that received some new coats of paint. Here, the two tethers that make up Exitmusic's sound, one stirring atmospherics, one of grandioise and thoughtful pop, are let to bow further out than ever before. They are, however, also pulled into a tighter, sharper knot at the center. There are big, emotional dynamic shifts, and a wave-crashing momentum across the set without ever breaking a sustained feeling of tenderness. It's dream-pop for those of us whose dreams are Lawrence of Arabia-epic in scope: lulling, apocalyptic, celestial, triumphant.

Recorded at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn with mixer Nicholas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter), Church and Palladino, along with the assistance of new bandmates drummer Dru Prentiss and live electronics by Nicholas Shelestak, built on the chilling, beautiful aesthetic they had created as a duo when recording at home. The result is a sound that is more powerful and more nuanced, covering broad oceans of emotional terrain. Opener and title track "Passage" is like watching a great shifting of tides through rapid time-lapse photography, introducing new dynamics in one magnificent breath. It is a statement of intent that tears down the Victorian boudoir gauze found on previous efforts. The ghosts are still piercing the veil, but now they're throwing chairs. The song begins gently, with candlelight piano plucks, distant explosions on the horizon, aching breaths and moans. But in moments, the oceans swell and lurch as it detonates into a shower of brilliant shrapnel.

Elsewhere, on album standout "The Night," Exitmusic's gaze moves upwards with chiming, blurry guitars, the heavenly sighs of Palladino in the background and one of the album's finest choruses in the foreground. And "Storms" sounds like Peng-era Stereolab as seen through a fun house carnival mirror. The album has a bona fide, fist-pumping anthem "The Modern Age" and closes elegantly with the starkly devastating "Sparks of Light. Simply put: This is arena goth.

Passage is a longtime in the making, and certainly worth the wait. Church and Palladino started writing together several years ago, when the Canadian-born Church moved to New York City, Palladino's home, following a year teaching English in Taiwan and India. Their collective sonic interests: layers, textures, churning, spacious guitars (Palladino had been playing hers since age 12), blinking electronics, shimmering vocals, created a fruitful writing partnership immediately. Their songs began to take on new dimensions when the pair moved to Los Angeles a year later, finally committing their compositions to the recording process. A few twists and turns, and a move back to New York City, later, Exitmusic found a home with Secretly Canadian who released their first EP, From Silence, in the Fall of 2011. Critical raves for the four song collection poured in globally, with everyone from New York Magazine to The Guardian heralding the band's arrival. With the new live line-up, Exitmusic will have toured with artists such as Phantogram, School of Seven Bells, The Joy Formidable and A Place To Bury Strangers.

LoneLady, AKA Julie Campbell is a self-styled writer, vocalist and tight guitarist. With little more than thorny determination and a shoestring budget, she built a secluded ramshackle studio in the belly of one of Manchester's crumbling mills and created her debut full length album, Nerve Up in the span of four weeks. The aesthetics of this ex-mill were a pure joy for LoneLady, and invoked the ghosts of bands she loves ... (Joy Division, ESG, Wire, Grace Jones, The Fall, Suicide, PiL). Co-produced by Julie and Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, The Breeders, Stereolab), LoneLady has delivered far more than just an assembly of songs in album form, but the outcome of a process of making something out of nothing.

David Feldstein is a Chicago-born recording artist currently based in Atlanta. He came into adulthood during the burgeoning 1990's Chicago music scene. For over twenty years, David has sought to record and release an album of music that represents the sounds which surrounded him during this period. Also influenced by artists like Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine and legendary recording artist Neil Young, David brings together many different aspects of instrumentation. Surrender The Silence is David making his mark on the world. This debut album is an effort filled with swirling guitars, some overdriven with distortion and some with a folksy twist. Thoughtfully complimenting each other in a genre which might be best described as Folk-tronica. These riffs and tones have been swirling around in his mind for over 20 years and finally are available for you to own and enjoy. Guster will release their first album in four years, Evermotion, fearlessly experimenting with new instruments and collaborations to create their most vibrant album yet. Produced by Shins keyboardist/Black Keys bassist Richard Swift, who has produced records for Damien Jurado, Foxygen and Stereolab, the new album bulldozes inhibitions, propelling the band to a harder-charging, more freewheeling sound.

The quartet of Ryan Miller, Adam Gardner, Brian Rosenworcel and Luke Reynolds recorded at Swift's Cottage Grove, OR studio in three whirlwind weeks - the fastest the band has ever finished an album. "We recorded with one drum microphone, used whole takes, didn't obsess over vocals or really edit things at all," said Rosenworcel. "It's a raw version of our band." Despite the stripped-down sessions, Guster's songs are packed with tight hooks, muscular guitar riffs, clanging percussion and surprisingly dark lyrics. The new album features adventurous turns on slide guitars, brassy trumpets and a glockenspiel, with sax and trombone accompaniment by Jon Natchez, whose stints with the War on Drugs, Beirut, Passion Pit and others have led NPR to call him "indie rock's most valuable sideman."

Guster started with two acoustic guitars and a pair of bongos and have since evolved and expanded their instrumentation, gaining a massive fan base that follows them to sold-out shows at New York's Radio City Music Hall and Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The band's last release, 2010's 'Easy Wonderful,' earned their highest chart debut on the Billboard Top 200 and opened at #2 on iTunes. The album was praised by the Wall Street Journal for its "jangly, ebullient rock" and by USA Today for the "impeccable, infectious" songs that are "impossible not to feel," while Vanity Fair called it "feel-good" and Boston Globe hailed its "effervescent and thoughtful pop."

    The Power Out (Awaiting Repress)

Back In Print Due To Popular Demand!

Electrelane's second album, The Power Out, is also their debut for the esteemed, arty British label Too Pure, the perfect home for a band that resembles so many of the imprint's other acts. The similarities appear early on, with the Stereolab-eqsue motorik and French vocals that drive Gone Under Sea, the wobbly-yet-charming singing on Birds that recalls Pram's Rosie Cuckston, and the intricate interplay of guitars and keyboards on every track that bring to mind th' Faith Healers (and their later incarnation, Quickspace). But these similarities are far from derivative; instead, on The Power Out, Electrelane feel like they're in the tradition of these other messy, angular, decidedly British art-punk bands, so much so that it's hard to imagine the band on any other label (with all due respect to Mr. Lady, who released Electrelane's debut, Rock It to the Moon). But even though the group perfectly defines the way that so many British art-school bands have sounded since the late '70s, in Electrelane's hands it still seems fresh.

The Power Out also seems fresher than Rock It to the Moon, perhaps because, paradoxically, it's more focused than their debut. That's a relative term, though; the noodly, jam-based feel that dominated Rock It to the Moon is still here, particularly on The Power Out's more rock-based songs such as Take the Bit Between Your Teeth and the closing instrumentals, Only One Thing Is Needed and You Make Me Weak at the Knees. But overall, the songs are more concise here, giving songs like On Parade and the lovely Enter Laughing an immediate, if not exactly poppy, feel.

The band finds different ways to channel the ambitions it so boldly displayed on Rock It to the Moon: Oh Sombra! is an eerie, passionate song fashioned from a sonnet from Spanish poet Juan Boscan, and This Deed borrows a line from Nietzsche to fit its appropriately dramatic air. Most striking of all is The Valleys, a choral rock piece that features Chicago A Cappella and Verity Sussman's arresting vocals, and attains a ceremonial, spiritual grandeur that hasn't been seen in many rock records save the Microphones' Mount Eerie. The Power Out manages to be unique without being a radical departure, and it augurs more good things for Electrelane's stint with Too Pure.

Novella's formation was the result of an instant spark-guitarist Hollie Warren,
guitarist Sophy Hollington, and bassist Suki Sou met through mutual friends in
Brighton in 2010, where they quickly realized that they shared a common
love for '60s counterculture and bands like Black Sabbath, the Brian Jonestown
Massacre, and Pale Saints. The addition of drummer Iain Laws in 2011
and keyboardist Isabel Spurgeon in 2014 solidified the group into a propulsive
engine, capable of welding woozy, cosmic psychedelia to sustained
squalls of flanged-out, far-out dream pop. Novella's debut album, Land, is a
controlled blast of mainlined electricity, a tempest of relentless groove and
crystalline vocals that is at once the vicious edge and the calm eye of the
    storm.

Recorded during one ice-cold week in January of 2014 by Jonas Verijnen
(Moon Duo, Ballet School) and Joshua Third (The Horrors) in an abandoned
clothing factory-turned-studio in Dalston, East London, Land perfectly absorbs
the band's vast array of influences and transforms them into songs
that Fact Magazine described as "equal parts effete jangle and ferocious
riffage." Combining London gloom and cosmic escapism, Sou and Laws
channel Can and the 13th Floor Elevators on the krautrock-inspired jams like
"Follow" and "Something Must Change," while Warren and Hollington stomp
their homemade flanger and phaser pedals to create dueling arcs of electric
guitars. As the band churns and riffs, the girls' voices soar brilliantly, their
glassy clarity recalling the Lynchian shoegaze of Lush or Stereolab. During
quieter, more reflective songs like "Sentences" and "Younger Than Yesterday,"
there are echoes of eerie psychedelia like Broadcast, evident in the myriad
of flutes, synths, and Fender Electric XII guitars.

On Land, Novella captures the wild spirit of creating something new from
pieces of the past. They ward off the overcast London melancholy with
evocative tales of weightless meandering, of drifting over the pavement of
familiar streets while dreaming about exploring fantastical alien landscapes.
These are the yarns of twenty-somethings in limbo, a collection of late night
tales that more often end in avoided glances than locked eyes
