    Dark Night Of The Soul

Dark Night Of The Soul is an album by audio auteur Danger Mouse and the already much-missed Sparklehorse. The record sees the pair joined by the following remarkable roll call of guests: The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Julian Casablancas (The Strokes), Black Francis (The Pixies), Iggy Pop, David Lynch, James Mercer (The Shins/Broken Bells), Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Suzanne Vega and Vic Chesnutt.

Rumors of this mysterious collaborative project began to circulate in early 2009 sparking widespread anticipation and excitement. Now, following months of talks, Danger Mouse and EMI announce that Dark Night Of The Soul will be released worldwide.

While this beautiful, haunting record being made widely and legitimately available is undoubtedly a cause for celebration, the news is shadowed by sadness following the recent passing of Mark Linkous, who released and performed under the Sparklehorse pseudonym. Dark Night Of The Soul will now stand as a defacto tribute to this well-loved, stunningly talented yet often-overlooked artist.

In addition to be featured on two songs, celebrated film director David Lynch has created a series of original photographs for Dark Night Of The Soul adding a spectacular visual dimension that will be incorporated in to the artwork for this already unparalleled project.

    Magnolia

The Wooden Birds is the new project of American Analog Set frontman Andrew Kenny. He returned home to Austin from Brooklyn to make Magnolia the album of his career, featuring members of acclaimed bands Sparklehorse, Ola Podrida and Lymbyc System.

Despite the involvement of new musical partners, creating a much more vocal-and percussion-driven sound than the keyboard-and-vibes-hypnotics of American Analog Set, his voice and ear for melody and rhythm are unmistakable on Magnolia.

    Good Morning Spider

Released in 1998 after Mark Linkous' accidental, near-fatal drug reaction and subsequent 12-week stay in a London hospital, Good Morning Spider lingers on the gray area between dreaming and waking, and life and death. Good Morning Spider, surely heavily influenced by Americana, blends darkness and childlike innocence, classic song writing and sonic experimentation. This second album is a result of Linkous' free-flowing, uncompromising honesty. Includes download card of the entire album.

    It's A Wonderful Life

The 3rd album from the late Mark Linkous' Sparklehorse, It's A Wonderful Life, was the first to be recorded in a commercial studio with a full band. Recorded and released in 2001, after Linkous' near-fatal overdose in a London hotel room, the album is a beautiful and fragile exploration of somber themes. Featuring guest appearances from PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, and Vic Chesnutt, It's A Wonderful Life is a singer-songwriter classic reissued here on 180 gram vinyl in a deluxe gatefold jacket.

    After The Disco

When Shins frontman James Mercer teamed up with producer Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse for a track on the pair's Dark Night Of The Soul project, it seemed farfetched to assume that we'd see any further collaboration from its members, especially following Sparklehorse frontman Mark Linkous' suicide shortly thereafter. But to our delight and surprise, the surviving duo went on to form Broken Bells in 2009, and since then have delivered an album and an EP to the world before fading back into the night. Danger Mouse (real name Brian Burton) has stayed busy in the meantime, producing albums for Portugal. The Man, The Black Keys, and U2, while Mercer poured his focus into a new Shins album and subsequent tour cycle. But now that all those side projects are behind the iconic artists, the duo is ready to give the world another welcomed surprise - their sophomore LP, After The Disco. And if that album title isn't enough of an indicator of the group's surprising new direction, the Bee Gees-esque backing vocals are certainly telling.

    Acrobats (On Sale)

New album. New sound. On Acrobats London's Peggy Sue has put down the acoustic guitars, this time opting instead for buzzing guitars and crackling amps. Recorded with producer of the moment John Parish --known for his extensive work with PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse and EELS -- Acrobats keeps the propulsive energy of their former work, but this time the sonics back up the mood. Songwriters Rosa and Katy, and drummer Olly called upon early influences like Sonic Youth and The Breeders when conceiving Acrobats which, coupled with recently acquired electric guitars and a new practice space, released the ferocity that had always been swimming just beneath the surface of the band's music. Parish successfully harnesses this newly minted electricity, resulting in the fulfillment of several albums and EP's worth of musical innuendo. Acrobats is certainly still Peggy Sue, but this time we see that behind the wry smile lies a mouthful of sharp, dirty teeth.

    Yuck (Deluxe)

Yuck's self-produced self-titled debut showcases a band capable of sprinting off in pretty much any direction you can think of, so diverse and fully realized is its vision. It also shows that their previous releases were merely skimming the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the quartet of Daniel Blumberg, Max Bloom, Mariko Doi and Jonny Rogoff are capable of. This is a confident, wildly ambitious record, but also one which brims over with a ragged warmth and tenderness, tipping its hat at alt music heroes past such as East River Pipe, Dinosaur Jr and Sparklehorse while at the same time retaining a unique identity entirely its own.

From the rousing call to arms of the opener Get Away, to the hypnotic sturm und drang of Rubber, and the grungy serotonin rush of Operation, it is clear that this is a band in full control of their powers when it comes to anthemic and offbeat guitar rock. But they also reveal an achingly fragile side too, as with the gorgeous, heartsick croon on Suck or on Sunday where Blumberg asks, Did you take the rhythm from me? Yesterday I had it all over chiming, jangling guitars.

    Innerpartysystem

After self-producing The Download EP, a six-song batch of demos, Innerpartysystem recruited a group of A-list producers and mixers to work with on their self-titled debut including Joel Hamilton (Book of Knots, Sparklehorse, Blue Tip), Mark Needham (The Killers, Pete Yorn), Spike Stent (Björk, Arcade Fire) and Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Killers) and Stuart Price, Seal, The Killers). Innerpartysystem's debut deftly toes the line between anthemic pop-rock and melodramatic electro-pop.

The origins of Innerpartysystem can be traced to 2002, when drummer Jared Piccone and vocalist Patrick Nissley attended school together in Reading, Pennsylvania. The duo started writing songs together, inspired by both their love of electronic music and hardcore punk. Piccone and Nissley then recruited multi-instrumentalists Kris Barman and Jesse Cronan to join the band and their sound moved further into samples and the electronic direction that can be heard on their debut.

"The album and the single see Nina back on form
with the return of her wonderfully distinctive voice
carrying finely crafted songs" - Music-News.Com

This is the first solo release from Nina, and her first album out since she, Niclas Frisk and Nathan Larson released "Colonia" as A Camp in 2009. Her other band, The Cardigans, have not released an album since 2005. "Animal Heart" was written and produced by Nina along with her husband film composer & novelist Nathan Larson (A Camp, Shudder To Think) and Eric D. Johnson (The Shins, Fruit Bats).

The most difficult and maybe also the best thing about going solo is probably all the decisions you make alone. Somewhere inside, I have a very clear clock, a gut feeling, that says what I think. I have forced myself to just keep going and follow only my gut with this album. I have simply no time to dwell on things anymore which I did a lot before, says Nina.

Since The Cardigans' last album and the two critically acclaimed albums by A Camp, Nina has performed as part of The Citizens Band, featured on the Sparklehorse/Danger Mouse collaboration "Dark Night Of The Soul" and started a family.

The goods news is that "Animal Heart" - the album and single - see Nina back on form with the return of her wonderfully distinctive voice carrying finely crafted songs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, themes include moving forward without getting caught in the past in addition to the perennial topics of relationships and alienation.

    Choir Of The Mind (Pre-Order)

    Orange Colored Vinyl

It's time: Emily Haines is back with Fatal Gift - the first listen from Choir of the Mind, the Metric singer's first release as her Soft Skeleton solo project in a decade.

Haines' vocals are definitely the focal point of Choir of the Mind. She used her voice to create spellbinding orchestrations for an effect that is subtle and ghostly on Wounded, lush on Fatal Gift and deeply powerful on Legend Of the Wild Horse, which she calls her soft anthem. Haines' voice is the only audible instrument on Strangle All Romance, and she creates mesmerizing layers that drift and swirl through the title track, which includes a spoken word part adapted from a poem by the Indian mystic Sri Aurobindo.

Haines recorded Choir of the Mind over several weeks in September And October of 2016, more or less alone in Metric's Toronto studio with a borrowed 18-foot grand piano built in 1850. Her longtime musical partner/Metric bandmate, James Shaw, helped flesh out the sonics with various instruments and rhythmic elements. (Shaw also mixed the album).Sparklehorse drummer Scott Minor, a member of the Soft Skeleton's first incarnation, returned to perform on Legend of the Wild Horse. Haines Says, The writing and recording process was heightened and intensive, the two became one thing.

Secret Machines, the three piece "Space Rock" alternative band from Dallas consists of Brandon Curtis on vocals, bass and keyboards, Benjamin Curtis on guitar and backing vocals, and Josh Garza on drums.

Best described as progressive rock with some Krautrock mixed in, the band's first full length release, Now Here is Nowhere, was recorded at Stratosphere Sound in NY and released May 18, 2004 on Reprise Records. All Music Guide gave the album 4 out of 5 stars. Their second album, Ten Silver Drops, like their first, did not make an impact commercially but garnered many favorable reviews. Following the release, the band was interviewed by David Bowie on radio; purported to be a big fan.

Benjamin left the band in March of 2007. The Secret Machines followed with two non-Reprise albums that failed to break and Benjamin tragically passed away from lymphoma at the age of 35. They have toured with the Foo Fighters, Spiritualized, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Interpol and many others. They have been inactive since 2010. Anyone interested in Pink Floyd, NEU, Ride, Spacemen 3, Mercury Rev, the Flaming Lips, U2, Super Furry Animals, Sparklehorse & Broken Social Scene should have this album in their collection.

"The Secret Machines create songs that are just as spacey and concept-heavy, if not quite as quirky, as those on Yoshimi and the Sophtware Slump." -Pitchfork

"A spiraling blend of infectious psychedelic pop that froths and fuzzes for a noisy hour." -Q Magazine

"The Machines have grasped that the zero tolerance of punk for the values of Yes did as much harm as good" -NME

"It's like John Bonham playing with CAN, or Pink Floyd-meet-Spirtualized with a barely repressed pop consciousness" -Uncut

"Beautifully spacey and searingly brash all at once." -Billboard

"They take Pink Floyd psychedelia, Led Zeppelin stomp and Who-inspired choruses and charge them full of big-rock beats, atmospheric keyboards and all kinds of electronic whooshes."-Rolling Stone

    "...spine-tingling, spectral folk-pop." - NPR MUSIC

Copenhagen, Denmark native Maggie Bjorklund has made a name for herself as an exceptionally gifted pedal steel guitarist/singer/composer, who crafts elements of country, indie rock, film scores, psychedelia, and pop into a stylistically unique blend of roots music. Over the years she has landed coveted touring gigs with Jack White (and performed on his latest album Lazaretto), X's John Doe & Exene Cervenka, Mark Lanegan, Howe Gelb, & Calexico's Joey Burns & John Convertino to name a few. With the release of her second album Shaken, Bjorklund puts together an A-plus band, consisting of drummer Convertino, cellist Barb Hunter, Jim Barr (Portishead) on bass, John Parish

(PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse) on guitars & production and a featured guest vocal appearance by Kurt Wagner (Lambchop). Written during a time of major personal upheaval, the songwriting here has a profound, cathartic, and purposeful inspiration Shaken is filled with potent memories and emotional out-pouring, translated into dark, warm sonic textures that flow like sepia-tinged lucid dreams, held together with Bjorklund's distorted, ghostly swells and breathy waves of pedal steel.
