Axis: Bold As Love (Music On Vinyl) (Mono)

Ranked 82/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Axis: Bold as Love, the second Experience album, was released merely six months after their debut LP Are You Experienced, at the end of 1967. Many of the album's songs were composed with complex studio recording techniques in mind and as a result were rarely performed live. Only Spanish Castle Magic and every-guitar-player's-ultimate-study-material Little Wing became staples during concerts.

The album shows an incredible growth in Hendrix' songwriting and sonical versatility. Radio friendly rockers like Wait Until Tomorrow and You Got Me Floatin' are mixed with ballads such as Castles Made Of Sand - the album's variety makes it a delightful listen.

The original mono pressing was intended to cater to those listeners with outdated hifi equipment, and therefore this is a rare piece of Hendrix' legacy. The Music On Vinyl reissue of the mono mix makes this evergreen available for contemporary ears again.

    Five Spanish Songs

Five Spanish Songs is an EP of songs written by Spanish musician Antonio Luque of the band Sr. Chinarro.

Produced by JC/DC and recorded at their studio in Vancouver earlier this summer, Five Spanish Songs features musical contributions from Nicolas Bragg, David Carswell, John Collins, Stephen Hamm, and Josh Wells.

    Dan Bejar writes:

It was 2013. The English language seemed spent, despicable, not easily singable. It felt over for English; good for business transactions, but that's about it. The only other language I know is Spanish, and the only Spanish songs I really know are those of Sr. Chinarro, led by Antonio Luque. I've been a decades-long fan of how he conducted his affairs, his strange words, his melodies that have always felt so natural (this is important), his bitter songs about painting the light. Something about them, I knew I could do it...

Spanish Harlem is the classic debut album by Soul icon Ben E. King, originally released in 1961. The album peaked at #57 in the Billboard 200 Charts.

Latin flavours and sunny drums run all the way through his 12-song platter, which, at times, is more of a Pop record than a Soul record.

King's version of "Besame Mucho" is a very successful reinterpretation in a Latin soul vein, and "Perfidia" never sounded better than it does in his hands.

    Liberation Music Orchestra

A fascinating reissue that comfortably straddles the lines of jazz, folk, and world music, working up a storm by way of a jazz protest album that points toward the Spanish Civil War in particular and the Vietnam War in passing. Haden leads the charge and contributes material, but the real star here may in fact be Carla Bley, who arranged numbers, wrote several, and contributed typically brilliant piano work.

    South Of Nowhere

Spanish Gold, which features drummer Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), guitarist Adrian Quesada (formerly of Grupo Fantasma) and guitarist and lead vocalist Dante Schwebel (City and Colour, formerly of Hacienda), release their debut album South of Nowhere on BMG/Del Mar Records.

Produced by the trio along with Collin Dupuis (JEFF the Brotherhood, Bombino), South of Nowhere was recorded by Dupuis at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and at Lalaland in Louisville. Additional recording was done with Jim Eno (Spoon, Poliça) at Public Hi-Fi in Austin and Sam Patlove (The Octopus Project) at Big Orange in Austin.

Of making the new album, Schwebel comments, "We kept finding that we had a lot of the same reference points during the recording. It became evident that we were still children of the MTV era.

We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It's an album of all those styles. Like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996. It's a nod to Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Madonna, the Beastie Boys or Tom Petty, all with a Texas border town setting. It all adds up to a fun listen that you can keep on repeat."

Afro-Peruvian Classics: The Soul of Black Peru

The Afro-Peruvian style heard on The Soul of Black Peru compilation originated hundreds of years ago from the Spanish slave trade. The music is a mix of African, Spanish, and Andean traditions, due to the fact that the slaves who came to Peru were not from one specific region, so they did not have a common language to communicate with. It's easy to break the music down and see which culture contributed what -- the lyrics are all sung in Spanish (Spain), have a slight melancholy approach (similar to the Yaravi form from the Andes), and boast interesting rhythms (Africa). The musical form is just starting to catch on in other parts of the world, and deservedly so. And since this is heartfelt, emotional music, fans outside of the world music circle can easily grasp and appreciate it. Ranging from Manuel Donayre's Yo No Soy Jaqui to Chabuca Granda's Lando (Luaka Bop Records head David Byrne even contributes a track, Maria Lando), The Soul of Black Peru is a true musical treasure.

    Exodus: Gods and Kings

    Blue/White/Black Swirl Colored Vinyl

    Limited Edition, Numbered To 750

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings, the story of one man's daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 400,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

The epic film was scored by Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias. He has written the music for several Spanish films, mostly from Pedro Almodóvar and Julio Medem. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the films The Constant Gardener (2005), The Kite Runner (2007) and again for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). His other film credits include soundtracks for Steven Soderbergh's Che and Hossein Amini's The Two Faces of January (2014).

    Albeniz: Suite Espanola (Speakers Corner)

The Suite española, written by the piano virtuoso and composer Isaac AlbÉniz, is one of the most outstanding works in the history of Spanish music. AlbÉniz invites the listener to join him on a musical journey through eight great Spanish cities, each steeped in tradition, investing each scene with local colouring as an homage.

AlbÉniz made full use of musical folk idioms combined with dazzling virtuosity in many of his other works too, and deeply impressed Debussy and Ravel, as is testified by their own compositions.

Originally conceived for the piano, the Suite has been arranged for large orchestra by Rafael FrÜhbeck de Burgos who makes the most of the orchestra's tonal palette to underline the expressivity of the music. The final movement (Cuba) is replaced by Cordoba, a piano piece from AlbÉniz's Cantos de España, op. 132, also arranged by FrÜhbeck de Burgos for orchestra. The obvious advantages of the arranger himself conducting the orchestra are well demonstrated by the present highly successful recording.

The precision of the rhythmic interjections and the melodic flow are highly impressive. The music evokes various scenes, such as the impression of a barren Spanish landscape in the shimmering heat or bustling life in the various cities of Spain.

Recording: November 1967 at Kingsway Hall, London by Kenneth E. Wilkinson / Production: John Mordler

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Cypress Hill was the first Latino American hip hop recording group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums, selling over 18 million albums worldwide. They are considered to be among the main progenitors of West Coast rap and hip-hop in the early 90s, being critically acclaimed for their first four albums. The band has also been highly vocal of their advocacy of the medical and recreational use of cannabis in the United States.

Los Grandes Éxitos en Español is a greatest-hits album in Spanish by Cypress Hill. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA. With exception of the last track, which was previously unreleased, together with Latin Lingo, and Tres Equis which appeared on Cypress Hill, the album features old songs with new Spanish lyrics.

    Espana (Speakers Corner)

Sonically, this record - made in 1956/57 - is one of the best ever produced by DECCA. The listener is literally swept off his or her feet. To better enjoy this tremendous experience, we would advise listeners to put their feet up, relax, and listen with rapt attention. A "Do-not-disturb" sign on the door is to be recommended. The tremendous sound emanating from the loudspeakers immediately conveys the rousing nature of the music.
Conducted by Ataúlfo Argenta, the London Symphony Orchestra plays with a rare vitality, pure enjoyment, precision and lucidity. This is a carefully chosen medley of Spanish music which, interestingly enough, was mostly written by non-Spanish composers.

All in all, this has become a legendary recording, which caused quite a stir even in its mono version. The FFSS version ranks among the very best recordings ever issued.

    Musicians:

    • Ataúlfo Argenta (conductor)

    Ilusion

Gaby Moreno is coming out with her new album "Ilusion" four years after her successful album "Postales" and touring the world with many big names like Ricardo Arjona and Hugh Laurie. The album "Ilusion" lives up to its name. Making you lose yourself in Gaby's creative illusions realizing such a tender reality. It is truly her best work yet giving her fans diversity, not only in her lyrics and her songwriting but diversifying her work in two different languages.

Her new single is "Love Is Gone" / Se Apagó The simultaneous dual language single release finds the critically praised singer-songwriter & guitarist once again stretching her genre range, with an instantly engaging fusion built upon the Motown/Stax Sound of Classic R&B.

Gaby Moreno has rescued the female singer-songwriter form from the abyss of clichÉ. She doesn't radically change its rules or anything - she just does it with a little more flavor and a lot more skill. With an exceptionally rich and assured voice, and a palette that spans Latin, blues, folk, jazz and pop, she's a marquee talent. Her singing is effortlessly bright with purpose and not just a display of ostentatious acrobatics. In her voice, the flame of the female greats is alive." - Orlando Weekly

"Certain voices emanate from a performer carrying such a naturally beguiling, tunefully confident range of emotion that it's as if the vocalist had no choice: singing is inevitable. Guatemalan-born, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Gaby Moreno has such a voice" - Philadelphia Inquirer

"Guatemalan blues. No, that's not right. Bilingual bossa nova. Eh, it sounds fun. But it doesn't quite capture it all.. Better yet, we'll call it damn good music. After all, a word that accurately describes Gaby Moreno's eclectic blend of '20s and '30s blues, Brazilian beats, and Guatemalan flavor has yet to be invented She's a captivating performer and truly remarkable singer/storyteller." - Miami New Times

"This Guatemalan American singer-songwriter alternates fluidly between languages, whether spoken (English and Spanish) or musical, easing in and out of everything from folksy alt country to retro blues rock Plucky, quirky and insightful, Moreno has the grace and the skill to make it big."- Rhapsody

    Come A Little Bit Closer

    First Time On Vinyl

This generous 17-track compilation of Willy DeVille's live performances covers his early years with Mink DeVille in 1977 extending to solo work in 2006. All songs were recorded in Europe, perhaps an indication of how well he was accepted there as opposed to his home country. That's especially interesting given how much his music drew almost entirely from American influences such as '60s Brill Building pop, New Orleans/Cajun, R&B, and an inner city Latin style best exemplified in a sizzling version of Demasiado Corazon.

Many of his heavy hitters are present in fired-up versions, sometimes even better than the studio originals. Get hip on his great renditions of Venus Of Avenue D, Love And Emotion, Demasiado Corazon, Spanish Stroll and a splendid version of the all time classic Hey Joe.

    Terral

Terral is Pablo Alboran's new studio album. After two succesful International releases, Alboran pulls no stops on his third release. Terral introduces twelve new recordings from the most succesful singer-songwriter to come from spain in a very long time. His formula remains the same as his previous ones: a strong, deep and impactful blend of lyrics, always capturing the listener's attention from the first verse, and his musical arrangements always dominated by the piano but accompanied by a full band of Europe's greatest musicians. His first single Por Fin debuted #1 throughout Latin America and Spain, a strong indication that what is yet is to come for Alboran in 2014 and 2015 is continued success as he remains on track as one of today's most popular Spanish singer-songwriters. In 2015, the second single will be 'Quimera featuring Ricky Martin.

    Images pour Orchestre (Speakers Corner)

"And the blind shall see" - promising words indeed! And very apt to describe the impressionist tonal paintings of Claude Debussy, who exchanged the paintbrush for a pen and the canvas for manuscript paper. Debussy's musical tools were not so much the etching-needle or sharp pencil but rather more a rich variety of glorious paints on his palette and thick brushes and sponges to form flowing figures and shapes on his musical canvas. With the Images pour Orchestre, the art lover possesses three of the mature composer's most important musical paintings to hang in his gallery.

Thanks to its rhythmic and melodic structure, IbÉria is very probably the most striking of these three studies. The impressionistic, frazzled theme is lent substance through the familiar sounds and rhythms of Spanish folk music; Debussy conjures up the moods and impressions of a landscape which he himself hardly knew. And should the listener not be in a position to wander the streets and pathways, to breathe the perfume of the night, nor to enjoy a fiesta morning, then this record will certainly enable him to "see" all this for himself.

Recording: May 1957 at Victoria Hall, Geneva by Roy Wallace / Production: James Walker

Featuring Spanish Stroll, Demasiado Corazon & Hey Joe, this 2-record set includes a 4-page booklet with extensive liner notes written by ex-band members and DeVille's inner circle. Containing one LP called The Mink DeVille Years and the second disc The Willy DeVille Years, this 27-song collection is the definitive document of his 35-year career.

Mink DeVille was one of the New York Punk movement's founding bands while having the distinct honor of being CBGB's house band. Off subsequent albums, Love & Emotion and Demasiado Corazon are also included.

After their third album, Le Chat Bleu, Willy was the only original member left. After the sixth Mink DeVille album, Willy went solo with Miracle, working together with Mark Knopfler. The song Storybook Love became a hit because of the film The Princess Bride. After a musical journey, DeVille scored a hit with his Hey Joe cover in 1992. His last album Pistola was released in 2008. Arisen New Era

    Blue And White Colored Vinyl

Unique Leader Records confirms that French death metal legion, KRONOS, will drop their Arisen New Era long player upon the masses. Recorded, mixed and mastered by David Potvin at Dome Studios (Lyzanxia, Arcania, Under The Abyss etc.) in Angers, France, the band's latest slab of audio menace features nine scalding tracks of unrelenting barbarity adorned in the distinctive cover art of Pierre Alain (Withering Soul, Silentlie, Cyrax etc.).

A name derived from the Greek god of time, Kronos (or Cronus), father of Zeus, KRONOSwas forged over fifteen years ago and quickly established a name for themselves based solely on their musical unity of harmony and violence. Featuring a continuous textual reference to the gods of ancient civilizations, KRONOS punctures ears with a heightened level of dynamics accomplished by only by a select number of bands. It all began in a small town in the Northeastern province of Alsace-Lorraine. Following various lineup shifts and musical experimentation, the pandemonium squad recorded their first demo in 2000. One year later, KRONOS would unleash their Titan's Awakening debut. Produced entirely by the band, the lethal creation lead to a union with French imprint Warpath Records. By the end of 2001, Titan's Awakening was expelled once again into the world, this time with a brand new cover designed by Deather (Gurkkhas, Vital Remains, Angel Corpse) as well as a visually disquieting booklet.

KRONOS later joined forces with Spanish label Xtreem Music run by Avulsed's Dave Rotten, for the unleashing of their next two full-lengths. Second offering, Colossal Titan Strife was discharged in 2004 to the applause of underground critics in the proverbial know. Metal Crypt commended the band's "diversified guitar work intricate drum patterns wicked guitar solos and.. good number of catchy yet non-compromising hooks," further insisting, "This French outfit is definitely worth checking out," while Sputnik Music championed, "an impressive album that shows off the capabilities of death metal done right. KRONOSmanaged to pack a metric ton of creativity into each song and you will barely hear the same riff twice." Added Last Rites simply, "worth your time if you need some solid, well-produced death metal." Third offspring, The Hellenic Terror, emerged in April 2007 and served as an attestation of the band's enormous capacity for skilled execution and originality. Said Metal Crypt in a near perfect review of the release, "The Hellenic Terrorcontains more melodic sections than Colossal Titan Strife, but still possesses almost as much brutality . KRONOS is one of the few death metal bands that manage to be melodic, brutal and still remain catchy as hell in their riffs and solos. This is definitely a must-have for fans of death metal."

Now that this Gallic Titan has blossomed into a powerful entity, they're ready to vanquish and destroy the world with musical bloodlust and the diabolic wares of Arisen New Era.
