Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites EPPreviously the frontman for L.A. post-hardcore outfit From First to Last, Sonny Moore continues to develop his unforeseen dubstep tendencies with the second EP under his Skrillex alias, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. This surprising electro reinvention still throws a few bones to his previous metalhead crowd, with the virtually demonic basslines of Scatta, a blisteringly dirty 140-bpm anthem featuring the suitably breakneck-speed MC skills of U.K. grime collective Foreign Beggars, and the sinister lyrics of the Daft Punk-esque robotic rave of Kill EVERYBODY (I want to kill everybody in the world) just as unsettling as anything the two albums recorded with his former band had to offer.
But perhaps inspired by the move to Deadmau5's Mau5trap label, its nine tracks present a more chilled-out, melodic, and even playful side to the eclectic producer. With You, Friends (an ambient reworking of the closing track to his My Name Is Skrillex EP) is a slow-burning epic that displays his penchant for chopped-up vocal samples amidst some lilting piano chords, swirling proggy electro riffs, and hypnotic house beats; All I Ask of You echoes the lush techno of his new boss, with its warm layered synths, ethereal vocals (courtesy of Penny), and Euro-trance hooks; while even the heavier moments are interspersed with lighter touches, such as the ingenious sample of YouTube sensation speedstackinggirl (Yes! Oh My Gosh) on the towering beats and distorted bass of the title track and the Space Invaders-style bleeps, helium vocals, and stadium rock handclaps on the chaotic electro-clash of Rock n' Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain).
The three remixes from Noisia, Bare Noize, and Zedd are solid if unspectacular, with only the latter's chilled-out version of the title track providing anything wildly different from the originals. But the invention showcased on the first six bass-heavy anthems is more than enough to suggest that the U.S. has found someone who is capable of selling the dubstep sound back to its South London homeland.1. More Monsters and Sprites EPRuffneck (FULL Flex) video uploaded to YouTube 12/23/2011. Over 2.6 million views in less than two weeks.
The "remix companion" to Skrillex's successful EP Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites actually features two new tracks, including the opening highlight "First of the Year," which wonderfully shifts from the cute kind of fluff Boards of Canada might appreciate to a grinding dubstep monster threatening to turn the woofers inside-out. "Ruffneck (Flex)" is a dancehall-meets-jungle slammer in that Major Lazer style, then four mixes of the previous EP's title track finish things off with the best ideas coming from remixers Phonat (bringing back the sound of IDM in its heyday) and Kaskade (turning this stuff into bleepy, blissful house music).1. The 'OCCULT CLASSIC' LP opens with the Rock City and
AWOLNATION featured "Kill It 4 the Kids" single, whose
whirlwind of lighters-up metal, signature bass growls and
festival sized synthwork make up one of the release's many
style hopping switch ups; including the Youtube flavored
Baltimore Club of the "Dolphin on Wheels" collaboration with
Dillon Francis, the rowdy dubstep-meets-drum & bass head
banger, "Spitfire Riddim" with Madsonik, and the razor sharp
bassline-backed electro thump of "Louder" with Tommy

most iconic stages in the world (Coachella, Lollapalooza,

Ride Or DieDebut full-length album from New York duo on Skrillex's OWSLA label.
While HEARTSREVOLUTION have worked with the likes of Just Blaze and released a string of Eps, singles, and mixtapes, they return to thrill us with their first LP of classic Rock & Rock dance gems. The 13 tracks that make up Ride or Die are a blend of bubble-gum pop sensibilities with Riot Grrrl ferocity that explores childlike innocence along with a visceral revolutionary spirit. Up-tempo tracks such as Ride or Die, Kill Your Radio and Vertigo show-off their punk spirit and sound as though they came out of a basement in Olympia as much as the streets on New York. Bedroom dance parties are bound to break out with Kishi Kaisei and KISS. Digital Suicide and Heart vs the Machine make light of their versatility and electro prowess while Final Destination features New York hip-hop mainstay Esso. And just when you think it's all fun and games, you'll find an unexpected masterpiece like Gen wh(Y). This song explores a level of intimacy and vulnerability that is rare, and is a call to arms as the band wears their heart on their sleeve and questions just about everything.1. Iscream Bombs

BirthdaysIn this frantic Twitterworld, where all the genres of music are either mating with other genres, feeding on the past or searching for the next trending wave, Keaton Henson personifies the moment when time stops still. It's the almost shocking sound of one man and his gently stoked electric guitar, which flicks like the embers of a fire, as the singer's voice glows in the reflected light, safe in his panic room.
Crippled by anxiety since childhood, to the point that he rarely goes out or plays live, the wondrously bearded Keaton is the archetypal tortured recluse who channels his emotions not into shopping or clubbing but his art: he's a skilled illustrator too, of bare-boned drawings that are as starkly delineated as his guitar-playing.
Birthdays follows 2012's cult debut album Dear..., and for its first half, Henson avoids slipping into post-dubstep, chillwave or hiring Skrillex in order to fit in.
But there is change underfoot. Dear featured one drum track, so the subtle beat behind The Best Today is no biggie. But half way through the following Don't Swim, it's like an ember has landed in your lap. The song's sudden electrical charge, which persists through the following, thunderous Kronos, is the sound of Henson wrenched from his comfort zone. Birthdays' second track suggests he's even reached Paris.
In fact, the whole album was recorded in California by American producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The Strokes). And various guests, including Jesca Hoop on ghostly backing vocals, have chipped in. Birthdays' second half takes Heaton closer to Jeff Buckley's turf: the unforced vibrato, the goosepimply effect and romantic hunger. But it's a subtle shift, and the instrumentation only partially reconfigures the secluded spell.
Beekeeper's occasional bouts of rock doesn't drown out the soft peals of banjo, while the swell of French horns, martial drum and Henson's fluttering voice in Sweetheart, What Have You Done to Us sounds like he's still in his bedroom. Up there, warmed by the fire, he's cloistered away from Twitter and all the other evils of this parish. There's no better way to shut out the din than by putting this record on.

MaydayHe's the techno punk, the unboxable nomad: Berlin DJ and producer BOYS NOIZE will release his 4th solo album MAYDAY via Boysnoize Records. The third track off the new album, "Starchild", features Channy Leaneagh of Poliça, and has been chosen as the world record by Zane Lowe on his BEATS 1 show.
Alex Ridha, better known as BOYS NOIZE, made his DJ debut at the age of 15, taking a teenager´s love of house and techno to a global scale. Accolades have been bestowed by Rolling Stone, who named him one of the "Top 10 DJ's Who Rule The World" and Beatport, who elected him "Best Electronic Act" 3 years in a row. He´s rocked the world's biggest stages, lit up Coachella three times, took Lollapalooza by storm, and headlined festivals and clubs on every continent - from Berlin techno temple Berghain to Fuji Rock in Japan to Justin Vernon's Eaux Claires Festival in the woods of Wisconsin.
As an artist and producer, Ridha has created a sound and a vision that's peerless, uncompromising, and enduring - respected in the scene, banging from underground to mainstream, it flies in the face of convention at every turn. He's remixed Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, David Lynch, Feist and Nine Inch Nails, collaborated with Snoop Dogg, Erol Alkan, and Jarvis Cocker, worked on Mark Ronson's "Uptown Special" and most recently on the soundtrack for upcoming Oliver Stone's Snowden, and released group projects with genius pianist Chilly Gonzales (Octave Minds), Skrillex (Dog Blood), and Mr. Oizo (Handbraekes). The list of names alone speak volumes about Ridha's multifaceted approach.
Now BOYS NOIZE is back with MAYDAY, his most dynamic album to date. Infectiously energetic, fusing the energy and spirit of punk with the raw power of modern techno and the early days of rave, MAYDAY exists as a new expression entirely, transporting the innocence of a bygone era into the here and now without ever sounding anachronistic or nostalgic. Collaborations with POLIÇA, HUDSON MOHAWKE, BENGA, REMY BANKS, SPANK ROCK, and some special secret guests (the liner notes are worth a read) broaden the range further than ever. "I always try to challenge myself as a producer and a musician," says Ridha. "Keeping the purity of electronic music but taking it somewhere new is the most difficult, and most motivating. MAYDAY is me taking the music I love to the future, no matter how uncertain the future seems."
MAYDAY speaks for a generation that no longer gives a damn about boundaries. Walls are for breaking down. MAYDAY's for tearing them to shreds.LP 1

Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body CountFirst Time On Vinyl
Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count is the debut studio album by American post-hardcore band From First to Last. It was originally released on June 29, 2004, through Epitaph Records. The title was taken from a monolog in the film Heathers, in which Winona Ryder's character is writing in her diary. Production was handled by Lee Dyess and the band themselves. The album was remastered by Beau Burchell from Saosin, however, it is not indicated on the personnel, possibly due to a contemporary feud between the band. The album also is notable for being one of the earliest projects featuring singer and multi-instrumentalist Sonny Moore (who has since launched a successful solo career as an electronic music producer and performer, under the stage name Skrillex).1. For over half a decade Black Light Burns has served as a pure creative and musical outlet for Limp Bizkit/ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist Wes Borland. And since its formation, fans have clamored to be part of the musical sideshow. BLB released their debut Cruel Melody in 2007 featuring Danny Lohner (NIN), Josh Eustis (Puscifer) and Josh Freese (Weezer, A Perfect Circle, Guns N' Roses, Devo) and went on to tour with Sevendust, Chevelle, and From First To Last, featuring Sonny Moore aka Skrillex.
BLB followed-up with 2008's Cover Your Heart And The Anvil Pants Odyssey, an LP/DVD of covers and B-sides. In 2009, after a year-long stint playing guitar for Marilyn Manson, Wes and Black Light Burns hit the road for an extended run with industrial powerhouse Combichrist, and contributed the track "I Want You To," to the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans soundtrack.
BLB took a temporary hiatus while Borland stayed busy on a World Tour with the reformed Limp Bizkit until returning in 2012, to the delight of fans, with the track, "It Rapes All In Its Path" on the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack and the announcement of the forthcoming LP, The Moment You Realize You're Going To Fall. "This is a really personal record for me," says Borland. "I spent three years writing it and trying to find the right home, and I am confident it's the best Black Light Burns record yet."
