New Gold Dream (Half-Speed Master)HALF-SPEED MASTER : 2016 reissue of 1982 album, mastered at Abbey Road Studios from the original tapes & pressed on 180-gram audiophile quality vinyl!
New Gold Dream is the fifth album by the celebrated Caledonian rockers. Released in 1982, it is widely considered to be a turning point for the band, a bridge between their post punk roots and stadium-filling destiny, and gathered enormous critical acclaim as well as impressive sales. Listed in the estimable tome '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' New Gold Dream was a discernible move toward a more a commercial sound and it entered the UK chart at number 3, yielding the hit singles Promised You a Miracle and Glittering Prize.
The latter track and the synth-heavy Someone Somewhere in Summertime in particular represented a shift towards undisguised pop and it's also worth noting that Hunter and Hunted features a solo by Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, a rare distinction for any rock/pop album.
Every band or artist with a history has an album that's their holy grail, remarked lead singer Jim Kerr. I suppose New Gold Dream was ours. It was a special time because we were really beginning to break through with that record, both commercially and critically. The people that liked that record connected with it in a special way. There was a depth to it: it created its own mythology. It stood out."
also worth noting that Hunter and Hunted features a solo by Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, a rare distinction for any rock/pop album.
The artwork caused quite stir due to its religious imagery, so much so that on the version released in Yugoslavia, the cross was removed. Jim Kerr reflected [During the writing of the album] we often went for walks. Around Perth you find a lot of Celtic crosses, crosses that seem to spring up from the earth. We thought it was a very powerful symbol. They were in the ground which produced the water we drank, so why not?1. Someone Somewhere in Summertime

Crises2013 Stereo Remaster
Following a long-established production pattern, Mike Oldfield assembled some relatively simple pop- and rock-flavored numbers following one long introductory piece on his 1983 Disky release, Crisis. The 20-minute opening title-track is a quintessential Oldfield texture study that consists of sparkling synth washes with edgier material weaving in and out. A fine setup, this track cleanses the aural pallet, preparing the listener nicely for the tunes that follow. Yes fans who can adjust to the sugary highlight In High Places will enjoy Jon Anderson's springy vocal work on the track. The energetic guitar romp Taurus 3 will also appeal to most prog and art rock fans. Those in search of more ethereal Oldfield material should be aware of this record's pop leanings, but open-minded listeners will have a good time exploring Crisis, one of Oldfield's better releases of this type.

King Of JeansIf 2005's Shallow was Pissed Jeans coping with moving out of their parents' homes, and 2007's Hope for Men their initial reaction to the mechanical lifestyle of a wage-earner, King of Jeans is their formal and uneasy acceptance of adulthood, by way of one hell of a rock record. Working with renowned producer Alex Newport (At the Drive-In, The Locust and Sepultura), Pissed Jeans have pushed further into the raw, minimal core of heavy rock music with King of Jeans. Masters of the mundane, beasts of the banal, high priests of the humdrum: these four, white, male high school graduates hardly look further than their own appendages for artistic inspiration, content to execute their own brand of brash and heavy punk music in the Joe Carducci-approved standard rock formation of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Solipsism (Pre-Order)Simple sounds to express complex emotions. Music stripped to its bare essence. Amsterdam-based composer and pianist Joep Beving has stripped music back to its essence in his debut album Solipsism. The independently produced album has been streamed an incredible five million times since its release five months ago. Solipsism represents a quest for essence and beauty, expressed in a neo-classical vocabulary. Joep Beving has been one with the piano from an early age. Where once his goal was to hit as many notes per minute as physically possible, his style of playing has changed over the years, searching for a particular aesthetic essence. His path was illuminated by a piano that Beving inherited from his grandmother when she passed away in 2009. This German instrument insisted on a more gentle touch and a gracious pace, which eventually led Beving to adapt to a more classical vocabulary to tell his story. Joep Beving's debut album Solipsism refers to the philosophical idea that reality only exists in one's mind. Everything outside of it, the external world and the minds of others, cannot truly be known and hence does not exist. Beving's music is an experiment in existential communication, a belief in an absolute aesthetic, to prove that a universal and metaphysical reality does exist. In the past year, Beving composed and recorded his solo album at home in the still of night. The album is filled with introspective and often filmic piano compositions. Beving's sound could be described as the opposite to over-produced and complexly layered music styles. His ambition for Solipsism is to keep the music stripped back to its essence: simple sounds to express complex emotions.1. Midwayer

VicissitudeFour years after his last album Turning The Mind, producer James Chapman is back with his third album Vicissitude.
While Turning The Mind swung like a hedonistic after-party held after Maps' debut We Can Create's Mercury Prize nomination, Vicissitude has the distinct feeling of digging deep and confronting reality head on. And in each of those cases, with Chapman the sole creative force behind the music, any Maps album is defined entirely by where his head was at during the recording process.
"The whole album is about change;" says Chapman. "It's about dealing with a struggle - whatever that may be - and ultimately coming through it."
Vicissitude focuses, tightens and sharpens Maps' expansive sound. The album might have been born from a long period of self-contemplation, but maybe you do need a while to get simple answers to the difficult questions. Time to face the light.1. A.M.A.

ChromeTo truly understand the color and shape of Nice Nice, you must really see them live. Only then will you realize that every sound heard on this record, every intricate ployrhythmic layer is LIVE. There are no overdubs, and there are only two people in the band. But if you haven't been lucky enough to see them yet, then bear in mind those facts when throwing this one into your headphones. Born in Olympia, WA and now calling Portland, OR their home, guitarist Jason Buehler and percussionist Mark Shirazi meticulously warp hard funk, psych, soul, dub, angular rock and no-wave noise into a mechanical beast that can take you from dream to dance in 30 seconds flat. The instrumentation is relatively simple: guitar and drums. But it's the endless tap-dancing of effects pedals and rock solid dub beats that make every moment more magical than the last. Having played with everyone from Black Dice to Cex to Gold Chains - and thoroughly blowing their minds all the same - Nice Nice are that rare band that seems to equally appeal to the bedroom stoners and Friday night hipsters. Ghost TropicThe sound movement on GHOST TROPIC will seem sudden to some; without warning. To others, it'll seem a very logical step in a very foreign direction. On its fifth proper full-length, Songs: Ohia has stepped outside the box and has delivered its most subtle record of fantastic depth to date. Indeed this is the most cohesive and album-like Songs: Ohia has ever been. The eight songs on the record sprawl out into one another, telling one long sonic tale, allowing very little room for chapter breaks or piss stops. In this regard, Lou Reed's moody classic BERLIN comes to mind as a worthy fore-bearer. But it's the strange ethnic flavor in which GHOST TROPIC is steeped that makes it stand apart from its predecessors, albums which were all received as crossing guards for the Great American lost highway. Surely this album will leave those expecting such fare scratching their heads. Blending the electro-acoustic minimalism of the David Bowie and Brian Eno Trilogy with the percussive worldliness of Tom Waits' SWORDFISHTROMBONES, the group seems to hop the globe from a British Isles folk rock influence to an Ennio Morricone-like Spaghetti Western feel to the faintest echoes of the Chinese Classical ringing like a death murmur in the distance. And the songs, they build in a slow, unconscious manner, pulsing with an intensity, but never betraying their most simple core with too much instrumentation or calculated progression. Yea! GHOST TROPIC is the first album which reveals Songs: Ohia's own Tropicalia Blues in full bloom.Lightning Risked It All

New Age Music Is HereMysteries is just as it implies. A few months ago the Felte label

figures, faces covered like some sort of futuristic druids. To this
day the label still doesn't know the group's origin, but the joy of
discovering this music unimpeded renders this fact almost
There's a sense that the band would prefer to keep your focus on
the music and not who they are, where they come from or what
you might perceive them to be before hearing a single note. If you
need glorious mug shots and preamble to capture your intrigue,
then this is not for you. The album's title, New Age Music is Here,
could even be interpreted as a sarcastic shot at the new listening
habits dictated by the constant noise all around us, but is more
likely a simple invitation to engage with the music on its own
terms, in its own universe.
One thing is certain. New Age Music Is Here glows with exotic,
crunchy, muscular, expressive pop music built around vocals and
drums, rather than the big synth or guitar riffs prevalent today.

Sunshine ReduxOut of the modern musical abyss comes Jackson Scott, a 22-year-old artist living in Asheville, NC. Finding pure metaphysical euphoria within the depths of cassette recorders and guitar pedals, he enjoys the simple things in life such as playing music with friends and falling into existential voids. After touring extensively in 2013 for his debut album Melbourne, released on Fat Possum Records, Jackson returned home to record an album that he could listen to in absolutely any negative or positive state of mind. His second album Sunshine Redux is a translation of this paradoxical psyche, a kaleidoscope of sounds ranging from 60's flower power to 90's hip-hop production techniques. WARB-WEA-7922xTaking Back Sunday
Taking Back SundayThis is the record that a lot of people never thought would happen: A brand new Taking Back Sunday album that features the same line-up as the band's platinum-selling 2002 debut Tell All Your Friends. Although the players here-frontman Adam Lazzara, guitarists Eddie Reyes and John Nolan, drummer Mark O'Connell and bassist Shaun Cooper-are the same, it's important to point out that this album isn't a sequel to this band's debut as much as it is the beginning of a new chapter of innovation and productivity from this celebrated Long Island rock act.
What began with the simple idea of all five members coming together at the Sonic Ranch in the border town of Tornillo, Texas (near El Paso), last year quickly resulted in a sonic windfall that saw the band writing nearly a dozen songs and from there Taking Back Sunday never looked back. The whole experience of us getting back together was really freeing, Lazzara explains. We went into all of this knowing that our music didn't have to sound a certain way, so we just decided to see what happens and this is what came of it. Nolan adds, I think we all knew that we had to take this band to a place where it hadn't been before for it to really work; it couldn't all be about nostalgia.
Let's face it, it would be simple for Taking Back Sunday to get back together solely in order to embark on an anniversary tour for Tell All Your Friends, but despite their previous successes they are quick to point out this record is a brand new beast that is ushering in a different era for the band. This album isn't us trying to be something we're not, Lazzara summarizes, it's just us and I'm really proud of that. If you listen to Taking Back Sunday with an open mind, you'll agree that it is an important record that marks a giant leap forward for a band that truly defies categorization.1. El Paso

SOLApollo Records is proud to present SOL the highly anticipated second album from Los Angeles based producer / composer Eskmo AKA Brendan Angelides. Inspired by our life giving planetary body, SOL is a masterful meditation on human emotional plane as effected by planetary bodies. Angelides has delivered perhaps his strongest musical statement yet. He explains: "My urge was to create an album who's main characters were the Sun, Moon and Earth and how they all play a roll in the perfect simple life of a perfectly imperfect human. Each track within their peak's and valley's plays a specific role in the narrative. My last album was more monotone, sound design focused and emotionally protected. I strove for more on this one. Written, produced and recorded over the course of a year on the Eastside of Los Angeles in his home studio, SOL's epic grandeur bears the traces of Angelides's recent work composing orchestral pieces for live performance with the LA based Echo Society. It weaves in the dulcet tones of a live string ensemble into the many textured layers of some compositions, as well as field recordings from locations across the US: LA, Redwood groves in Northern California, Yosemite and perhaps most memorably, in Costa Rica during a 7 day medicinal retreat. That pivotal retreat as well as a trip to the pyramids and temples of Cairo Egypt, a 10 day silent meditation retreat in the desert of Joshua Tree and a handful of Native American ceremonies shaped the celestial-meets-earth tone of the work. The intimacy and heartfelt qualities of SOL immediately call to mind contemporaries such as Jon Hopkins, Apparat and Matthew Dear as well as the historic likes of early Peter Gabriel, Arthur Russell and Fred Frith amongst others. From the moody cinematic opening of 'SpVce' and exhalting synth melodies of 'Combustion', to the touching delicacy of the watery ballad 'Blue And Grey' to 'Mind Of War''s tromping existential digi-funk, the heartbreaking piano paen of 'Tamara', to the snarling drone saturation of the title track, to the beaming, epic euphoria of 'The Sun Is A Drum' it's clear that this is a record that is a truly cinematic experience.1. June 2009Toro Y Mois first commercial release, the Blessa single, introduced the world to Chaz Bundicks brand of introspective, atmospheric pop music, and while the A-side wound up laying the framework for his debut, Causers Of This, backing track, 109, hinted at a side of his music having more in common with the oddball pop of Ariel Pink than any of the album's reference points. As it turns out, around the same time he was experimenting with music software and sampling, Bundick was recording a slew of short and sweet lo-fi tracks chronicling his version of college grad indecision. Now, after two albums, an EP, loads of tour dates, and a move to Berkeley, CA, these songs still mean a lot to him, and theyre collected on the retrospective June 2009.
Originally part of the tour-only CD-R of the same name, June 2009 feels like a peek inside the mind of an artist not knowing where to turn once stripped of the structure of school life. He struggles with good friends moving away (Sad Sams), the pressing feeling that a move to New York is a necessary career move (Take The L To Leave), and the fear that simple pleasures have become a thing of the past (Ektelon). But more than nostalgic yearnings for the recent past, the songs are like journal entries as commemorative as they are therapeutic.
Elsewhere, tracks like Girl Problems and Dead Pontoon show how his first album might have sounded if 109 had been that first singles A-side, with reverb-soaked, angular guitar riffs serving as focal points of the power-pop periphery. Also included is an early version of Causers standout Talamak, one of his first cuts to make the blog rounds and an interesting insight into the process of reformatting his work to fit with the album. Closer New Loved Ones sees Bundick in a rare, intimate environment, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and in the throes of love lost. With songs varied in style but bound together by their personal subject matter, June 2009 is a portrait of a young man unknowingly on the cusp of a fruitful career. OpeningFor years, I've imagined the work I do in music, photography, and video all coming into one space, says music-tech guru Christopher Willits from his home in San Francisco. It's an ambition that many musicians have aspired to, but nonetheless seems especially befitting of a worldly polymath like Willits. I believe that sound and light, when used intentionally, have the power to transform and inspire our imaginations, he continues. I believe that art has an ability to awaken our connection to everything. And that is exactly what he has set out to do with OPENING, the veteran Ghostly artist's immersive new audio-visual project.
Across seven tracks of widescreen ambient music, 45 minutes of visuals shot over four years in multiple countries, seven bespoke photographs, and a multi-sensory live performance, Willits has conceived and produced something which might better be thought of as an experience than a simple album. Of course, OPENING does feature Willits' latest music since Ancient Future, his 2012 collaboration with Japanese pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto, and the vibrant, enveloping sounds we've come to expect from him are on full display. The quiet majesty of Vision ushers us into the sacred world Willits created, a living universe which billows and heaves in the corners of slow-grooving songs like CLEAR and CONNECT or the
textural minutiae and harmonic subtleties in GROUND. Closing out the album, WIDE and RELEASE o!er the listener a gentle comedown through 15 cumulative minutes of transcendent audio, with Willits' delicate guitar manipulations breathing life into the aether of prickly atmospheres and soft-glowing synths.
The other integral facet to the experience of OPENING is Willits' visual work. After building a library of footage and images from his travels around California, Hawaii, Japan, and Thailand, Willits will unveil for the first time a portion of his videos as an abstract film, the seven scenes of which each correspond with a song and photo from the album. The
45-minute piece uses music and a first-person perspective to tell what Willits calls a very ambiguous story, much in the vein of ground-breaking experimental films Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka. Taken as a whole, OPENING is unlike anything Willits has accomplished before, and maybe that's because the audio-visual project is about expanding one's mind to become something new. Or, as Willits puts it, OPENING is about transformation, the experience of changing oneself to be more of who you know you can be, and, ultimately, the joy that comes with that change.1. Vision

NAPALM DEATH checked in to comment about the artwork as follows:
There are many meanings that you could grab from the new album artwork, I think. But one is the representation of how our natural and most basic needs for happiness and communication are being stripped away by materialism and pre-packaged garbage - crap that we don't need, filtered to us through the media via the megacorporations with the goal to maintain the bloated bottom line of profit. It's all just stuff that will be obsolete in 6 months time. And behind the scenes of course, modern day slavery is alive, well and obscured by this facade. It's all an exercise in deceit to shower us with fake fulfilment, while the poor and underprivileged fall further by the wayside. - Shane Embury / NAPALM DEATH
Across the albums, we have had some very complex and interconnected artwork. This time we wanted to keep it more simple - strip it down perhaps to a single image that would sharpen the focus. I loved the idea of the supermarket-style packaging as soon as I saw it, as when you go into one of those places with nourishment in mind and you're greeted with some miserable, artificially-enhanced foodstuff contained in a bleak little receptacle of industrial plastics, it doesn't exactly inspire you. To then fill that plastic tray with the dregs of meat production, well, that is the 'easy meat' in the title - representing the people who suffer for burgeoning consumption degraded and dumped in the most pitiful way. - Mark 'Barney' Greenway / NAPALM DEATH1. Merge Records Reissue Remastered by Bob Weston!
Merge is proud to reissue All the Nations Airports and White Trash Heroes, the final two albums from Archers of Loaf. Both albums have been remastered by Bob Weston and feature re-imagined cover art, new liner notes and copious bonus material. Each album is presented on colored vinyl.
With All the Nations Airports, originally released in 1996, Archers of Loaf were uncompromising in their efforts to push themselves in new directions. They delivered an album that included some of the more simple indie pop songs that had made them famous as well as four instrumental tracks, layered tape loops and even a solo piano song, but the song structures became much more complex. These songs provided a wide range of color and emotion but somehow none of the songs seemed out of place on the album.
In Stephen Thompson's liner notes for the All The Nations Airports reissue, he says, "It's music that exists because it must, with all the bile, beauty, and bluster of youth and all the disaffected paranoia of a perpetually worried mind. The album might not have fulfilled Archers of Loaf's commercial potential at the time, but that makes an awful lot of sense. The band tended to craft its greatest art when it saw fit to scribble in the margins."
LPs are limited edition and pressed on colored vinyl housed in gatefold jacket with printed Euro sleeve.

Grow SlowThere was once a young African princess who embarked on a huge journey in pursuit of her dreams. She arrived at a mystical island covered in clouds where she met a cunning wizard...Sounds like the beginning of some Disney fantasy but the truth is not so different. The Princess is Sena who came from Accra, Ghana to a festival in the centre of Budapest, Hungary and met a musical wizard by the name of DJ Vadim... that was in 2005. What happened that night was the meeting not only of like minded souls, but the beginning of a future journey into sound and space. First came recordings for Vadim for the Soundcatcher album Talk To Me (2007 BBE) which was much lauded by Gilles Peterson at the time... Which led to a long process of creating an album. Much happened in between. Each had many of their own adventures.Grammy Award shows, sell out arena shows for Sena's band in Hungary - Irie Mafia - plus the birth of her beautiful daughter Kekeli and the release of her second solo album Lots Of Trees on French Soulbeats Records; world wide shenanagins for DJ Vadim with his groups, One Self, The Electric and many solo projects...Perhaps a good analogy would be the perfect pasta. One needs both to cook it exactly, not too hard or too soft and also a complimentary sauce. It takes time, love, effort and good ingredients. What's the result, simple but delicious and what a perfect combination Sena & Vadim make also.Perhaps add some chile pepper to bring out the African funk mixed with London tricknology from the grimey east London hoods and that's what it sounds like. It's not just soul but has a peppery kick, a proud African roar with somewhat a Caribbean touch. Then again, that's the Dubcatcher Vadim bringing his bass and skank to the mix. This isn't rose tinted squeaky clean US R&B, this is a diamond in the ruff worldly spoken words, raps and emotions...Think Erykah Badu meets Damian Marley over the new upsetter hot steppa DJ Vadim...1. HollyThink music ain't what it used to be? Then you haven't heard Nick Waterhouse. His jumped-up take on 1950's rhythm 'n' blues is the real deal."
A timeless talent for spirited rock and rhythms that anyone can appreciate.
He draws from the classic sound of '50's American pop with a distinctive
voice of his own, shouting and growling with infectious vigor."
Waterhouse is definitely a star."
- LA TIMES
The music sounds like a party in full swing, each instrument playing exactly what is needed."
- CHICAGO TRIBUNE
Between the chattering keys, bomping saxes, gorgeous guitar tones and
the bandleader's voice-which slides effortlessly from cool quaver to feral
howl - the end result is undeniable."
Nick Waterhouse's art springs from a simple idea: everybody wants to be sombody else. One of his heroes, Van Morrison, got his start covering Bobby
Bland, whose own musical idol was Nat "King" Cole. In Waterhouse's view,
emulation is a journey; you never truly succeed, but as the singer, guitarist and songwriter puts it, "You become something on the way there."
Nick was born in 1986 and grew up in Huntington Beach, known predominantly for
UFC, commercial surf culture, and tanning salons. He established his musical sensibilities in the middle of the burgeoning southern California Psych-Garage scene (Burger
records, Ty Segall, McHugh's Distillery studio) while retaining his unique perspective
on the spirit of American Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll.
Waterhouse started performing as a teenager. "It was really motivated by fear," he
recalls. "I'm kind of an introvert, so it was an uncomfortable situation. It was a way
to force a crisis." The young artist experienced an exhilaration he'd never felt before,
and hasn't found anywhere else since. "It's a feeling of heightened awareness that goes
beyond pleasure," Waterhouse explains. "It has something to do with seeing ahead in
time and behind in time all at once. You don't just get the immediate reward; you get
the potential that rewards you the same way."
Waterhouse explored the idea of potential on his breakthrough single, "Some Place," a
beautifully lean, propulsive track recorded at all-analog studio the Distillery and self
released in 2010 on his own Pres label. "Well, there's someplace that I'd rather be,"
Waterhouse sang in a fierce yet plaintive register. "And it's something that's been on my
mind almost constantly."
These days, Waterhouse is a successful recording artist, with one well-received LP and
and several high-profile tours and collaborations to his name. But his latest work still
embodies the struggle of his early forays. During "This Is a Game," Waterhouse sets up
a snarly, post-surf guitar solo with a succinct statement of a cynical outlook: "This is a
game / Please remember my words / And don't get upset when you don't get what you
think you deserve." And on the gothic-soul strut "Let It Come Down," he meditates on
the inevitability of pain. "If there's gonna be rain tonight," he sings in a stoic croon.
"Let it come down."
It's clear from this material that Waterhouse is in the midst of his own becoming. He
isn't the type to let ecstasy take over, like Van Morrison, or to drawl away in a consummately laid-back register, like Mose Allison. In the tension between his wry lyrics and
crisp arrangements, you hear the expression of a worldly skeptic who's also-when it
comes to his art-a sanctified believer. Whoever it was that Nick Waterhouse wanted to
be matters less now; these days, he just sounds like himself.1. High Tiding
