    Grrr...

Fronted by Justin Rice and Christian Rudder, Bishop Allen is best known for making and self-releasing an EP each month for an entire year, then reworking some of the best songs for a highly acclaimed label debut (The Broken String). The rigorous EP project, and the extensive touring that has followed it, have allowed Bishop Allen to hone their craft: writing, performing and recording music.

The resulting album, Grrr..., reveals that after five years of comparisons to other artists like Jonathan Richman, The Kinks, Bright Eyes, Spoon, etc., in rave reviews from Rolling Stone, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly and many others, Bishop Allen has developed an artistry and sound that are unmistakably their own. One thing that distinguishes Bishop AllenÆs music is the quality of the writing. RiceÆs literate lyrics, which The Los Angeles Times has praised for their ôpoetic insight,ö have a universality that has made them resonant to listeners of all ages and earned them champions ranging from the young comic actor Michael Cera to the National Public Radio host Scott Simon.

Each of the 13 tracks comprising Grrrà is a succinct composition, and yet the album also coheres seamlessly as a song cycle. The melody and/or rhythm of one track is often contiguous with the next. As always, Rice and Rudder are responsible not only for the writing, but the lionÆs share of the playing and the recording: the guitars, pianos, marimbas, ukeleles and vocals. And, as before, Darbie Nowatka shares in the singing. Otherwise, the album features contributions from a number of their friends: drums and percussion by Michael Tapper, horns by Jon Natchez and Kelly Pratt, and strings by Daniel Hart. Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples in Stereo, Luna, Sebadoh) offered the band some invaluable production tips and, at his famed Trout Recording studio in Brooklyn, recorded the drums and mixed the album.

    Where Were You Then?

Further was a decidedly west coast indie rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1991 by brothers Darren and Brent Rademaker, Josh Schwartz and Kevin Fitzgerald. The Rademaker brothers along with Josh went on to form Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde respectively, Kevin Fitzgerald became the drummer for the Circle Jerks and the west coast lo-fi California indie rock sound actually became a thing with the kids. Overdosing on Weed, Surfing and Dinosaur Jrs You're Living All Over Me as well as flat out turning down major label offers, Further was fuelled by DIY spirit and their music tested the boundaries from the lowest of fidelity to the indie-est of rock...with re-leases on Bongload Records (home of Beck's Loser 12), their own Christmas Records, Ball Product (Creation Records), Fierce Panda and many more. Further received acclaim from the UK press including a 9 out of 10 review in the NME as well as Peel Session from long time fan John Peel. Further were a permanent fixtures on the LA indie scene where they shared bills with eve-ryone from the likes of Pavement, Beck, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Royal Trux, Urge Overkill, Archers of Loaf, Codiene...real indie-rock, you get the picture? Friends of Lou Barlow from Dino-saur Jr, Further had a knack of exploding into Dinosaurs sonic territory. When Further went on tour with Sebadoh in the 90s, Lou was asked by the NME if he had anything to say to J Mas-cis...? Lou replied smugly...ever heard FURTHER? This record compiles the best of the singles and EP tracks from 1991 to 1997 all re-mastered from the original vinyl.

    Glow & Behold

No wonder Yuck exuded confidence during a recent SPIN interview. Rebirth, the London band's first track since the departure of former frontman Daniel Blumberg, showed the band continuing to refine and update their '90s-minded shimmer 'n' swoon. Middle Sea, only further goes to show they have, if anything, improved with the new lineup.

A hard-charging indie-rock anthem with male-female harmonies and a raggedly hypnotic guitar riff, this one updates a lyrical theme from the previous single. I don't want your love / I want you, guitarist and newfound frontman Max Bloom sings on that one; I don't want to live forever / I don't want to live / I want you now, he insists this time. Before too long, a horn part arrives like a tiny conquering army. If only Sebadoh had realized crossing the ocean could be this effortless. Turns out, the water's just fine.

Glow & Behold, the follow-up to Yuck's 2011 self-titled debut was produced by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House) and boasts 11 songs. Bloom, who plays on the album with bassist Mariko Doi and drummer Jonny Rogoff, told SPIN that for this album wanted to make a proper journey from beginning to end. So far, Yuck are headed in the right direction.

    Coliseum Deluxe Reissue

Founded by Louisville musician Ryan Patterson and including Kayhan Vaziri and Carter Wilson, power trio Coliseum have grown to become one of today's quintessential contemporary punk bands. Successfully melding progressive musicianship, hardcore fervor, and vital social awareness into one constantly evolving artistic vision.

Over the last decade Coliseum have released music on a host of labels including; Temporary Residence, Relapse, Level Plane, Auxiliary (Ryan's own label), and even Deathwish ("True Quiet / Last Wave" 2009).

And now, 2014 brings Coliseum and Deathwish together again as their permanent label home. "We have a long and storied history with Deathwish and their family of bands," says Patterson. "Not only did we work with the label on the 'True Quiet' 7", we've toured around the world with Deathwish bands, released a split with Doomriders early on, and I've been fortunate enough to design a number of Deathwish releases. While Coliseum officially joining the label's roster is a new chapter for us, it feels like a homecoming."

To celebrate Coliseum's 10th anniversary, we are proud to present the "Coliseum" Deluxe Reissue: A twenty song collection featuring their classic self titled debut album (out of print since 2006) paired with eight essential bonus tracks from their primordial years. Originally recorded by Jason Loewenstein of Sebadoh and now fully remixed by Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust, the release also features new deluxe packaging, insightful liner notes, and cover artwork by John Baizley of Baroness.

    Dumb Numbers

Dumb Numbers Is A Brand-Spankin' New Band Featuring A Pretty Unbelievable Cast...

With his debut album, Australian songwriter Adam Harding has teamed up with Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion), Dale Crover
(Melvins), Murph (Dinosaur Jr.), Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), CR Matheny (Emperor X) and others to create an impressive breadth of material.

Dumb Numbers walks a line between the aggressive and the emotional. In just 36 minutes the album manages to move from feedback-drenched pop(Last Night I Had A Dream) to Melvins-leaning rock (Lost Inside),
to monastery doom metal (Without), to sentimental piano pieces (The Broken Promises), to balls-out guitar shredding (Redrum). Such a wide range of sounds contained on one album would usually result in an artistic train-wreck, but expert musicianship and an undenable cohesion tie these songs together. The result is an unpredictable and masterful debut album.

Salad Boys came together at the end of 2012 with members from other illustrious Christchurch groups T54, Bang! Bang! Eche! and the Dance Asthmatics. Recorded, the Salad Boys are deceivingly charming, presenting a careful but curious balance of well-informed pop melodies, hypnotizing rhythms and heady instrumentation. The group's self-titled mini-album released in 2013 caused something of a mini-sensation, receiving praise from the likes of Stolen Girlfriends Club, Mess and Noise,hhhhappy.com and many more. In real life, the Salad Boys perform a wondrous assault: a charged up blitz of clanging guitars, intoxicating drones, head-down acid repetition and an abundance of dazzling pop hooks. This notoriety has scored the group a wealth of engagements up and down New Zealand including slots at the Camp a Low Hum and Chronophonium festivals, gigs with Sebadoh, The Bats, & Parquet Courts as well as a highly honorable spot performing as backing band for David Kilgour of legendary NZ group The Clean.

    Mourn

"More importantly, the Catalonian quartet play with an unshakable conviction and
a lack of self-consciousness, recording straight-to-tape, letting the harmonies bleed
together and drums play at maxed-out levels." - Pitchfork

"Their first song for the label, "Silver Gold", is a sludgy track, drowning in slippery
distortion and Pixies-esque fire." - Impose Magazine

"Jazz Rodriguez Bueno, Carla Perez Vas, Antonio Postius and Leia Rodriguez pierce
the surface with unified cries, screams and howls that seize attention in a flash."-
    DIY Magazine

MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and
Carla PÉrez Vas- both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves
with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began
writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel.
These recordings caught the attention of their homeland's Sones Records. Despite being
teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with drummer Antonio Postius
and bassist Leia Rodríguez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who
have had the opportunity to listen to it. Jazz (18), Carla (18), Leia (15) and Antonio (18) came
together to present these tracks with authenticity and self-awareness beyond their age. With
the confidence only residing in youth, the Mourn debut was recorded live in the studio in
two days, proof of which is in their live-in-the-studio videos for singles "Otitis" and "YourBrain
is Made of Candy." Both tracks perfectly capture the bands' affinity for the brevity of The
Ramones with the lyrical and melodic sophistication of The Pixies.

The Early Four Track Recordings features some of the most memorable and immediate moments of Kevin Barnes' career, predating the moment before Of Montreal was a realized band and brings to mind the intimacy and immediacy of early Sebadoh, Pavement, and Guided by Voices albums. As fans should expect, these songs are heavily influenced by 1960s sunshine pop, with plenty of quirky weirdness and lo-fi aesthetics tossed in to keep things fresh. Never before released on vinyl.

The band Kahoots might as well be on Madagascar -- left alone on an island for years, a species with common roots to us all, but immune from gimmicks and trendiness. Although the band is often compared to the pop noisemakers of the Chicago-Northampton axis, from Silkworm to Sebadoh, a more enlightening comparison is to Arthur Lee's Love... acerbic but honest lyrics, irresistibly catchy hooks, just real and inspired music. Sometimes even a 'Forever Changes' string section, but don't worry, in plenty of moderation.

    Lanterns

Equal parts producer and composer, Son Lux (aka Ryan Lott) bridges an unusual
gap between old-world music theory and next-level experimentation. Meditative
but heaving with energy, "Lanterns" nds a peculiar congruency between
futuristic soul and ancient sentiment. Driving orchestral electronica (Lost It To
Trying, No Crimes) is placed alongside creepy minimalism (Pyre), often starkly
juxtaposing densely layered arrangements with Lott's fragile voice.

In recent past Son Lux has gained notoriety both for his s/s/s project (with
Sufjan Stevens and Serengeti), and from being named NPR's "Best New Artist of
the Year". His third full-length album, and his rst for Joyful Noise (Kishi Bashi,
Sebadoh, etc.), positions Son Lux at the helm of an impressive ensemble of
instrumentalists and singers, including Chris Thile (The Punch Brothers), Peter
Silberman (The Antlers), DM Stith, Lily & Madeleine, Darren King (Mutemath),
Ieva Berberian (Gem Club) and yMusic (Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver).

    Ownerless

Comprised of four singers/songwriters (Russell Pollard/J. Soda/Joel Graves/Elijah Thomson), the members of L.A.'s Everest boast some impressive pedigrees, having played with groups like Earlimart, Sebadoh, the Folk Implosion, Slydell, Mike Stinson, Great Northern, Alaska!, John Vanderslice and The Watson Twins. Sharing a mutual admiration for each other's respective track records, the four were drawn together by a common desire to make classic-sounding pop songs in the style of earthy bands like Wilco and Calexico.

Produced by Rob Schnapf and Richard Swift, Ownerless builds on the expansive sonic soundscapes the band created on their critically acclaimed debut Ghost Tones and follow-up On Approach. With guitars that range from bright and chiming to tense and meandering, harmonies that are both delicate and pastoral, and Pollard's gentle hazing vocals, it's easy to see why Everest have continued to gain new fans wherever they go, from month-long residences in cities such as Chicago and New York, to tours alongside Neil Young, Wilco and My Morning Jacket. Sister Faith

Celebrating their 10th year as one of independent music's most substantive bands, Louisville's Coliseum return with their fourth full-length, the stunning Sister Faith. Expanding on the anthemic direction the trio veered toward on 2010's highly acclaimed House With a Curse, Sister Faith's 13 songs are the most dynamic and immediately captivating of the band's career, bristling with galvanizing melodies at the collision point between punk and noise-rock.

The first album to be recorded in producer J. Robbins' recently relocated Magpie Cage Studios, Sister Faith is also the first Coliseum recording to feature new bassist, Kayhan Vaziri, in addition to contributions from some of the groups' closest friends and musical peers: Wata of Boris, J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines), and Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh, The Fiery Furnaces), Jason Farrell (Swiz, Bluetip) all make small but memorable contributions.

John Baizley of Baroness recently wrote, "Musical progression tends to come at the expense of quality or ethics, and Coliseum have sacrificed neither. Songwriting and emotional content have become their focus, and to that end they have gracefully transitioned from the unrelenting anger, rage, and rawness of youth to a more thought-provoking, yet no-less-powerful or insightful sound that is entirely their own." Sister Faith is the encapsulation of that slow and steady transition, the new peak of Coliseum's highly creative and inspiring career.

    The Fact Facer

Holy Sons is at the center of his many musical personalities and is his longest standing project, acting as an outlet for some of his most personal and direct songs. In Holy Sons, Amos puts his restless imagination to work using a variety of inventive home recording methods to turn melodic slow-burners into multi-layered, atmospheric missives. While his methods and prolificacy provide a kinship with Sebadoh, Ariel Pink and other musicians who have offered countless transmissions from their bedroom floor, Holy Sons comes from the mind of someone who has internalized the minutia of 70s rock music and eschews the stereotypical lo-fi sound for a much deeper and more varied palate. The Fact Facer, his Thrill Jockey debut, bathes Amos' thoughtful, and even at times philosophical, songs in technicolor darkness, and reinforces Holy Sons as his musical centerpiece.

The songs on The Fact Facer creep up on the listener, their fiercely addictive melodies unraveling slowly and purposefully. Jumping smoothly between many facets of Amos' songwriting, the album does much to establish him as a talented multi-instrumentalist. From the lysergic leads of "Selfish Thoughts"" to the Danny Kirwan referencing solos of "Transparent Powers" and the skillful acoustic flourishes of "The Fact Facer," Amos proves himself as adept and creative a guitarist as he is a drummer. It is telling that Amos has built up two Holy Sons bands simultaneously: one based in Portland and one based in New York. Wherever the wind takes him, there are musicians willing to pick up their instruments and follow his lead.

Amos currently resides in Brooklyn, where he recorded the majority of The Fact Facer. He plans to tour throughout the fall, solo and with one of his two backing bands.
