    School Days

Mastered from the Original Epic Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI/AcousTech

School Days was a game changer for the legendary Stanley Clarke in many ways. Not only did it forever etch the title superstar musician to his name all over the world, it also crossed his incredible music over to a whole new level of listeners, which to this day continue to flock to this album for the solid funk, rock, jazz and fusion release that only this master jam could achieve.

After a very successful run with Chick Coreas Return To Forever, world class bassist and multi-instrumentalist Stanley Clarke branched out on his own and made some very credible solo albums. When School Days hit in late 1976, it was not uncommon to hear tracks like Hot Fun and School Days being played on all formats of radio. Whether it be urban, rock, or jazz, the School Days album was the go to album of choice for many radio stations, as its rhythms and cosmic funk/rock/jazz energy would truly enhance the listening experience to a whole new realm.

And now, Friday Music is offering the legendary Stanley Clarke School Days album on 180g Audiophile Vinyl for the very first time. Mastered impeccably from the original Epic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI/AcousTech, this stunning album is a fusion masterpiece made for the audiophile vinyl domain.

For this star studded affair, Stanley Clarke reached out to some of the greatest musicians of all time like John McLauglin, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Steve Gadd, Icarus Johnson and many others. Not only do you get the wonderful songs previously mentioned, but there are even more classics like Quiet Afternoon with some very solid drumming by Steve Gadd, Desert Song featuring a stunning duet with John McLauglin on guitar, as well as the apocalyptic album closer Life Is Just A Game, which features some very powerful bass and drum fireworks between Stanley Clarke and Billy Cobham, with George Dukes amazing keyboard expertise.

Comes housed in a very rare gatefold cover featuring all of the original artwork elements, which haven't been seen in years.

    Vega Intl. Night School

While making Neon Indian's third album, Alan Palomo turned a crisis into an opportunity: When his laptop -- which contained demos of his new songs -- was stolen at the end of the Era Extraña tour, he started anew by drawing inspiration from his past. Vega Intl. Night School takes its name and sound from his previous electronic project VEGA and his pet name for his after-dark adventures, conveying the dazzling, fleeting allure of a night out. Era Extraña's crisper beats and textures hinted that Palomo might be headed in a more danceable direction, but on his third album, he finds ways to subvert expectations while remaining true to Neon Indian's essence.

He applies his flair for mood-crafting to a palette of electro, funk, disco, new wave, and reggae, transforming his synth-heavy sound into a love letter to the fabulous keyboard tones of the '70s and '80s: Note the Baroque embellishments to Slumlord's filter-disco and the squiggles that make Street Level sound even more like forgotten Paisley Park brilliance. Prince and Daft Punk are two of the album's biggest influences, not just in sound but in spirit. The way these tracks flow into each other recalls the uninhibited, possibly inebriated way Homework's first few cuts blended into an atmospheric portrait of nightlife, a concept Palomo runs with on Vega Intl. Night School. Sounding like a field recording from an '80s nightclub, Smut! captures the disorienting, intoxicating feel of entering a party that's already in full swing; Techno Clique expresses the anonymity and intimacy of dancing with a stranger, and the luminous synths that close The Glitzy Hive might as well be sunrise peeking through the club's doors. Vega Intl. Night School's more structured songs are so good that it's easy to wish there were more of them

    Ape School (Discontinued) (On Sale)

Michael Johnson arrived in Philadelphia a swamp-ape from the Florida panhandle to lead music technology studies at a downtown arts university. Instead, he discovered in its hallowed halls the derelict crown-jewel of archaic analog electronics with which he would forge his image of the Ape School. Armed with the Moog Modular synthesizer he helped revive-- just the fourth born and installed by the hands of Robert Moog 40 years earlier in 1965-- Johnson conjures original songs from beyond his prior tenures in Kurt Heasley's Lilys, and Sub Pop's Holopaw, using the Modular to weave lush motorik dreamsound throughout dynamic instrumentation and his distinct croon.

This second one-man-does-all album by Johnson--the first to use the animistic moniker-- marries primitive songs with incorporeal sound: glamatic pop explorations, navigated by studio light, coalesced over time, wine, fallouts, and Rundgren-style self-control.

From the resounding onset of Wail to God, to the song's oscillator outro barely two minutes later, the tonal breadth and sonic fluidity of Ape School is clear. A song like Did What I Did flirts with pop sensibility, but coheres in subtle feedback when repetition would normally devolve it to redundance. Elsewhere, as on My Intention and Deathstomp, Johnson commits to full mechanical shredding and focused romps of analog rock glory awash in system buzz. Other, more spacious moments like That's OK, It's Over, and The Underground reveal the songs' subtle instrumental basis, and bare the accidentally clever, eloquent lyrics of his elastic tenor.

Mixed in Jamaican Brooklyn with Michael Pecchio in a bath of reverb, delay, tape echo, smoke, mirrors, orange juice, and cayenne pepper, Ape School has finally congealed. Upon graduation from Primate U, this album, initially intended for release by co-conspirator Alfred Daedelus Darlington, finds a home at Ninja Tune's Counter Records.

With a band of student human musicians rescued from the confines of musical education, Ape School has opened its doors to limited faculty enrollment. Composed of previous cohorts in Lilys, Holopaw, Human Television, and beyond, the live Ape School incarnation takes one monkey's primordial creations on summer vacation to civilization. Evidently basted nightly.

Chuck Berry's Landmark First Album - Includes 3 Bonus Tracks

First Time Exclusive Audiophile Vinyl And Stunning First Time Gatefold Cover

Mastered From The Authorized Chess Records' Mono Tapes By Joe Reagoso

Chuck Berry is an American original. There will never be another Chuck Berry, nor anyone in the music industry who could influence
generations upon generations of aspiring rock 'n rollers like Chuck has.

Celebrating six decades in the music business, this East St. Louis native initially captivated millions of kids in the fifties with his first
recordings like Maybellene and Roll Over Beethoven. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks, poetic lyrics and dynamic
    presence on the stage.

Introduced to Chess Records by fellow blues rocker Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry hit a goldmine immediately with his arsenal of tunes
that he presented to Phil and Leonard Chess. These great songs culminated into a handful of top charting singles which led to his first
    legendary album After School Session.

Kicking things off with one of the monumental rock and roll records of all time School Day (Ring Ring Goes The Bell), Chuck Berry
roars through a bevy of 11 more home runs which made this one of the most important and emulated albums of all time. The album features
classic gems like Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Too Much Monkey Business, Havana Moon and No Money Down. Noted for his stellar guitar
work, pretty much introducing the turnaround riff to a whole new generation of guitar players, After School Session was truly a primer for a
ton of rock and blues artists for years like Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Johnny Winter, The Animals and
    The Yardbirds.

Chuck Berry was more than a rock 'n roll genius. He was a natural poet. He could rhyme. He could compose lyrically two and three
minute musical stories about the everyday man and woman, about the struggles of being a teenager, about romance, about cars, about
faraway places, about dancing, and most notably about rock 'n rollin.'

His unconventional approach to music was unlike that of anyone before him. He opened the doors for millions of music fans around
the world to enjoy rock and blues, making him one of the first pioneers of the popular recording business that we all enjoy to this day.
Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Chuck Berry and the Chess Records' arsenal of fine recordings. That is why
we are so very proud to announce The Chuck Berry/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his monumental first album After
School Session - The Deluxe Anniversary Edition.

Mastered by Joe Reagoso (Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter) for the first time on audiophile vinyl from the Chess
monophonic tapes, Chuck Berry's After School Session now features 3 sensational bonus tracks including his first Chess singles Maybellene,
You Can't Catch Me and Thirty Days (To Come Back Home).

To celebrate Chuck Berry's six decades in the music business, we further enhance this limited anniversary edition with a stunning

    School's Out

Originally produced by Bob Ezrin, this multi-platinum effort forever etched the word superstar to Alice Cooper, as this legacy recording has truly stood the test of time. Aside from the smash title track, the album contained equally strong album tracks like Public Animal #9, My Stars and Alma Mater. This major release has also been one of the most influential hard rock recordings of its time, as well as being one of the biggest albums of Cooper's amazing career. Remastered from the original Warner Bros. vault tapes by Joe Reagoso (David Lee Roth, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy), this stunning album now has the most impeccable sound ever, complete with a very sharp gatefold cover with the original art elements, and poly sleeve.

Prinzhorn Dance School are still recognizably the same spiky Brighton-based duo whose ultra-rigorous debut cut through the excess of 2008 like a scimitar through bacon fat. But with their trademark stripped-down intensity now winningly off-set by moments of unabashed tenderness, their third album Home Economics continues and even accelerates the move away from austerity and into human warmth begun by its acclaimed 2011 predecessor Clay Class. All the best six-track albums - The Fall's Slates, Orange Juice's Texas Fever - know exactly what they want to say and how they intend to say it. Home Economics shares that infectious sense of urgency. There's not an inch of spare meat on it - from Reign's snatched moment of optimism, through Battlefield's restorative meeting of minds with an urban fox on a drunken walk home in the early hours, to Let Me Go's concluding tribute to "a love that won't rewind and will not be deleted". Spindly yet sensuous, together and alone, exquisitely sad but somehow full of hope, Prinzhorn Dance School knit together disparate and even opposite fragments into an utterly satisfying whole.

    Dress Up

Colored Vinyl LP (Limited to 500)

The debut album from Edinburgh quartet The Spook School brings together 13 (mostly) very noisy guitar pop songs, the culmination of four people making a lot of noise about gender and about identity. Inspired by the post-punk-pop of The Buzzcocks, Lou Reed's 'Transformer' and the films of Buster Keaton, with a dash of 60s pop for good measure, The Spook School are Nye Todd on guitar with Adam Todd also on guitar and Anna Cory on bass, not forgetting Niall McCamley who plays drums, tells jokes and takes his clothes off. They all sing and shout and write the music together. There is no leader and no 'frontperson'. They're a band.

With Nye identifying as trans, the band explore gender, sexuality and queer issues with stories that do not shy away from being absurd and silly. The title of the album is 'Dress Up' and relates to the idea of gender being a social construction, something that can be artificially appropriated. Gender is something more fluid than the given binary of male/female. There is also a strength in dressing up, a liberation of mind and body, a chance to smile, be silly, be yourself, be someone else, be anything at least for a little while.

As the band explain; "We want to liberate the listener by lubricating their ears with noisy pop songs about coming to terms with gender identity and realising how silly the world is. We like to have fun, but we also really care about the things we sing and write music about. I think if anyone was to ever listen to one of our songs and think "hey, I've felt like that!" then that would make us very happy indeed."

The band started playing together because Nye and Adam (siblings) had written a few songs and fancied playing them with a full band. Searching around the city of Edinburgh they found Anna hiding amongst a pile of The Beatles records and Monty Python DVDs. They managed to coax her out of her pile and into the band using a bass guitar as bait. Niall joined on the proviso he would be allowed take his top off at any moment and he would be allowed to attempt to seduce the crowd during gigs. In response the other three, unhappy with his abundance of height, made him agree to sit behind the drums so The Spook School could successfully be equidistant from all ceilings. None of them even knew how to play their instruments or write songs. They still don't really, although that's now become important in terms of how they sound. They don't really "write music", they just try and make noises that sound nice and exciting. They're four friends on an adventure.

The name came from Adam's love affair with architecture. Around 1920 a group of Glasgow artists led by Charles Rennie Mackintosh were criticised for their work being too gothic. This led critics to make fun of them by calling them The Spook School. Nowadays of course they're heralded as one of the greatest art collectives to ever come out of Scotland. For that reason the band don't really deserve to appropriate their name at all, but they like the idea of taking something mean and making it awesome, of something that was at the time ridiculed and considered 'weird' later being recognised as brilliant and revolutionary.

    Old Fears

The new School Of Language album is called Old Fears and it's set for release on Memphis Industries on 7 April 2014. Old Fears. It's a pop record. A place of clipped falsetto, melancholic funk, iridescent electro, shimmering post-punk, futurist prog. A self-contained sphere of strange sensations. Beguiling textures. Lengthening shadows. At times it is both liminal and minimal, at others emotive and external. Ambiguous and ambient. Tantalising and tempered. Modern. Unique. And funny too. "I wrote a lot of notes and they seemed to distinctly split into things to do with love and things to do with fear," says David Brewis. "A lot of it has ended up with me looking back at when I was 19, 20 - my formative years. So though I wouldn't want to call it a concept album it's definitely themed." Old Fears. Here each song has been honed and polished into something pure, like a vast block of marble chiselled down into a perfectly tiny delicate egg of FabergÉ-esque perfection. Recorded throughout 2013 in Field Music's studio on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland, synth flourishes sit alongside the staccato jarring guitars of 'A Smile Cracks' and the metronomic rhythms of 'Dress Up'. Like a Ballard novel or a George Shaw painting, 'Between The Suburbs' offers perhaps the most lyrical and poetic moment, where "Dogs chase patterns, play to attention / Bulbs glare on greasy roads...". The title track meanwhile is reminiscent of the haunting giallo film scores of Goblin or kosmische music at its most moving while 'Moment Of Doubt' displays shades of Brian Eno and Robert Wyatt. Other oblique influences come in the form of early Justin Timberlake and N*E*R*D albums, "a bunch of disco records", Canadian experimentalist Sandro Perri, Dr John, Fela Kuti and Shalamar. Old Fears. A haunted collection that occupies a strange, hazy hinterland of permanent gloaming. One where snatched melodies pass each one another like cars gliding by at night on their way back to the silent suburbs. These are polished pieces composed without contrivance. Old Fears. An album that is neither retrogressive or futurist, but simply anchored in the moment. Pure. By beautiful album closer 'You Kept Yourself' one is left with the sensation of seeing, smelling and tasting the world anew.

THE HISTORY OF ROCK IS FULL OF MISCONCEPTIONS. WE ALL HEARD THAT POPULAR ONE: ROCK MUSIC IS LOUD AND DANGEROUS, IT´S THE DEVIL'S
MUSIC. BUT DOESN'T EVERYBODY KNOW AT LEAST ONE BEAUTIFUL SONG BY A ROCK BAND?

Even if you are not attending the mighty School of Rock, you know one of those bloody emotional moments when the lead guitar sings its way through the solo and the
chorus comes back while you are flying on the wings of heaven. Or something else. We all need a little bit of silence sometimes, just to stop from being part of this crazy
    world we live in.

One of the finest moments on this ballad compilation is the new song "On The Edge Of Our Time", being one of the best ballads he's ever written to date. But the climax of
"The Ballads V" is without a doubt the fascinating new song "Love's Holding On". Singer Johnny Gioeli is joined by Bonnie Tyler here!

There are 9 more songs, of course, pretty much known from his previous albums (e.g. Neil Young' "Hey Hey My My " and Deep Purple' "Mistreated") which wraps up another
classic, dynamic and high-quality Axel Rudi Pell album. As one fan from Israel said on Facebook: "If there was justice in the music business, your ballads would be as big
    as the Scorpions one."

In 2001 Rival Schools released there debut album United By Fate, which was met by praises from critics and fans. The group spent the next two years touring the world a few times over. Feeling some fatigue from the road, guitarist Ian Love decided to part ways and pursue solo endeavors. The group then recruited long time friend and musician Chris Traynor, (Orange 9mm/Helmet) and they spent a year writing and recording material in a few different studios around NYC. This body of work has since been leaked on the Internet in bits and pieces, with various made up song titles. These recordings have taken on a certain mystique among diehard fans and will finally see an official release. Titled Found, the eleven songs (including a Buzzcocks cover) have been re-mastered and will be available digitally as well as in a limited run of 180 gram vinyl on April 9, 2013. The cover is a photo from one of the studios in Brooklyn that the band was working out of. In 2011, Rival Schools released Pedals, they spent the next few years touring the world, and have been working on new material for an upcoming release.

    Make Yr Life

The Butchies are three cool women from Durham, NC who make fine power pop. The trio nods to the old school punk rock of The Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, 999, etc...while still sounding very right here and now. Having already released three full length records, Are We Not Femme (1998), Population 1975 (1999) and 3 (2001), the band, Kaia Wilson (ex-Team Dreasch), Melissa York and Alison Martlew, are ready to take you over. And they will do so in the form of record number four - an impressive punk/pop masterwork entitled Make Yr Life. The record boasts ten totally inspired tracks kicking off with a bona-fide single, Send Me You, featuring a chorus that you won't soon forget. Other standouts include the urgent title track, the classic indie-rocker She's So Lovely and the haunting slow-down of Everything & Everywhere. Accentuated by undeniably electric, not-to-be-missed live shows honed over much time spent on the road and a great new long player, The Butchies are a force to be reckoned with.

Death To False Metal is not a traditional collection of studio leftovers or songs from the vault, but a wholly original follow-up to Weezer's just-released Hurley. The album was created using the basic tracks of 10 previously unreleased recordings-nine never-before-heard songs plus one cover-to assemble a brand new and truly modern-sounding record. The result is an evolution for the band, a giant step forward with a nod to the past.

''These were great songs, great recordings, but for some reason they didn't make the final cut for previous records,'' Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo stated. ''Some just weren't right for the albums we were recording at the time-just a bit ahead of their time or too 'rock.' Now, the time is right to introduce them. Together, they are the album that should logically follow Hurley.''

Featuring tracks the band originally began recording from the late '90s to late '00s, Death To False Metal was a labor of love for Cuomo and his co-producer Shawn Everett, as well as the entire band. Each track was individually evaluated by the production team of Cuomo and Everett to figure out how to make each of the songs reach their full potential, and ultimately fit harmoniously on the album. After that process, they then brought in each band member in to complete the parts needed. Some of the ten songs received a major overhaul, while others got the equivalent of a sonic tune-up.

''Turning Up The Radio'' is the result of Cuomo's 2008 collaborative YouTube project, ''Let's Write A Sawng,'' for which he invited fans to submit ideas. As they went through the steps of composing a tune, eventually, 15 people became involved. This track is one of only two songs not solely penned by Weezer for Death To False Metal.

''Blowin' My Stack,'' ''Losing My Mind'' (which features some of the most raw and personal emotions in a Weezer song), ''I'm A Robot,'' and a rock cover of the massive R&B hit ''Un-Break My Heart'' were all first recorded prior to the release of 2005's Make Believe. ''I Don't Want Your Loving'' was originally laid down as a demo for 2002's Maladroit. The abrasive punk-metal ''Everyone'' hails from post-1998 Pinkerton period, as does the pop song ''Trampoline.'' The piano-based ''Odd Couple'' and new-wave-style ''Auto-Pilot'' were laid down prior to 2008's Weezer (aka ''The Red Album'').

The title Death To False Metal comes from a phrase that Cuomo and his younger brother used when they were kids. Musical integrity was a matter of life or death then, and now the new album is a reminder of how important music is for both Weezer and their many fans. At a time when many of their contemporaries seem to have forgotten how to rock, Weezer is ready to teach them. Cuomo and fellow axe-slinger Brian Bell crafted nine epic guitar solos-one for nearly every song on Death To False Metal-and with the band's signature hooks in full effect, Weezer's school of rock is back in session.
