Shock TacticsPressed On Crimson Loincloth Vinyl
First-Ever Vinyl Reissue
Limited To 700 Copies
Of all the bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, Samson takes the woulda/coulda/shoulda been big stars prize.
The band's talent and theatricality were undeniable; guitarist and singer Paul Samson had replaced Bernie TormÉ (of Gillan fame) in the band Scrapyard before founding Samson, which soon enlisted the lead vocal talents of a certain Bruce Bruce a.k.a. Bruce Dickinson, soon to be of Iron Maiden. Throw in bassist Chris Aylmer and drummer Thunderstick, who performed inside a metal cage wearing a gimp style mask, and this was an outfit seemingly destined for big things.
But, constant promotional gaffes (e.g. booking them on tour with an ill-matched Robin Trower) led the band to terminate their contract with management, who promptly brought an injunction keeping them off the road. Then, their label(Gem) went bankrupt; as Dickinson says, they made every mistake in the business.
In the midst of all the turmoil, though, the band made its third and finest record, Shock Tactics, which was ably produced by AC/DC producer Tony Platt; but, as Iron Maiden was recording next door at Battery Studios in London, the two bands became friendly, and Dickinson left Samson for Iron Maiden just as Samson received big offers from A&M and RCA, which were instantly withdrawn upon his departure. So, classic music industry saga classic British Heavy Metal!

Talk About BodyTalk About Body is the debut album from Men, the new project from Le Tigre's JD Samson, feminist leader and gay icon. Men is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective, where JD is joined by Ladybudy Transistor's Michael O'Neill. The band focuses on the energy of live performance and the radical potential of dance music and speaks on issues of wartime economies, sexual compromise and the demand of liberties.
Men started in 2007 as the DJ/production team of Le Tigre members JD Samson and Johanna Fateman. With Le Tigre on hiatus, the duo began to write new songs, and they merged their efforts with JD's other project Hirsute. Rattle That LockRattle That Lock is the new solo album by David Gilmour, the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd. This is David's fourth solo album, and the first since 2006's # 1 album On An Island. The primary lyricist for Rattle That Lock is Gilmour's long-term writing partner, Polly Samson, and the album is co-produced by David Gilmour and Roxy Music s Phil Manzanera. The album's striking cover has been art directed by Dave Stansbie.
The lead single of this album is the title track, Rattle That Lock. The song begins with the four notes, created by Michael Boumendil, which precede announcements at French SNCF railway stations which Gilmour recorded on his iphone at Aix station. Samson's lyrics are inspired by Book 2 of John Milton's Paradise Lost, which is also featured in her recent acclaimed novel, The Kindness. The single also features the Liberty Choir and singers Mica Paris and Louise Marshall.1. 5 A.M.

Pittsburgh (Discontinued) (On Sale)Chicago-based sound artist J.R. Robinson has been creating live, ambient tonefields in museums around the US and Europe over the past two years including the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Pompidou Center in Paris, and The Art Center Berlin. Robinson has injected these recordings into collaborations with some like minded heavy hitters from the noise, post-rock and jazz worlds such as David Yow (Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid), Mark Shippy and Pat Samson (US Maple), Azita Youssefi, John Herndon and Jeff Parker (Tortoise), Keefe Jackson, Fred Lonberg-Holm and Ken Vandermark. The result (dubbed Wrekmeister Harmonies), is a distinctive hybrid of sound art and avant-garde music, evoking the essences and influences of masterworks like Joe McPhee's Nation Time, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and the sound collages of Stockhausen.1. Ballet Music From The Opera (Pre-Order)Mastered By Willem Makee From The Original Master Tapes
Anatole Fistoulari was always a specialist in the interpretation of ballet music. He was also, a noted conductor of Tchaikovsky and the Russian School, as well as romantic and impressionistic French music. This album, originally released in 1960, features selections from William Tell, Khovantchina, Aida, and Samson and Delilah, performed by the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra conducted by Fistoulari.
Although this record isn't quite as dynamic as Witches Brew, it shares most of that disc's electrifying sound. Very lively midrange with superbly coherent staging, top rank clarity and deep, powerful and well-defined bass. Recorded by renowned Decca audio master Kenneth Wilkinson.

I'm Glad I'm Not MeCritically acclaimed indie rockers Born Cages will release their debut studio album, I'm Glad I'm Not Me, via Washington Square/Razor & Tie.
I'm Glad I'm Not Me was recorded at Mission Sound (Metric, Arctic Monkeys, Matt & Kim) in Brooklyn, NY and was produced by Jon Kaplan (Cage The Elephant, Walk The Moon) and co-produced by Born Cages' lead singer Vlad Holiday. On the album, Holiday, bassist/keyboardist Matt Maroulakos and drummer Dave Tantao conjure festival-ready, truly modernist modern rock that is every bit as grand as its song titles would predict: "Bigger Than Me." "I Just Want The Truth, Baby." "Don't Look Back." "Finding Beauty in a Broken World."
I'm Glad I'm Not Me touches on rock, electronic, dance, alternative and everything in between, reaching listeners thought to be quarantined from each other. It's a record celebrating togetherness in fractious times, music that finds commonalities rather than chasms. Throughout, Born Cages play with an urgency that posits their music as something essential. I'm Glad I'm Not Me embraces its punchy hooks, economic arranging and distinct kind of New York City disillusionment; it's the despondency of being told your mere existence in the city is a sign of having "made it" and still feeling alone amongst the millions.
The album is the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2013 EP release, The Sidelines EP. Vice Noisey describes the band's music as a "blend of 80s-influenced synth/guitar work and modern pop-rock sounds," and Blackbook raved, "More than a decade after the riff-heavy heyday of The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes, The Hives, and many other bands that put the word "the" before a plural noun, we may be ready for another bout of ripping revivalism Born Cages, certainly makes that argument." The Born Cages Daytrotter Session made the Top 50 of 2014 list.
Lead singer and guitarist Vlad Holiday formed Born Cages in 2011 and the group dove head-first into New York City's eclectic indie rock movement. He is joined by Matt Maroulakos on bass/keyboards and Dave Tantao on drums. The band has shared bills with a bevy of acts such as Hockey, Magic Man, X Ambassadors, Gold Fields, Royal Teeth, Said The Whale, Donald Cumming (of The Virgins), Public Access TV, JD Samson (of Le Tigre) and Har Mar Superstar. Reached Number One In The Uk And The Us
The Division Bell is Pink Floyd's fourteenth and final studio album. It was originally released in the UK by EMI Records on 28 March 1994, and the US by Columbia Records on 4 April.
The music was written mostly by David Gilmour and Richard Wright; lyrically, the album deals with themes of communication. Recording took place in several locations, including the band's Britannia Row Studios, and Gilmour's houseboat, Astoria. The production team included Pink Floyd stalwarts such as producer Bob Ezrin, engineer Andy Jackson and saxophonist Dick Parry. Gilmour's new wife, Polly Samson, co-wrote many of the album's lyrics, and Wright performed his first lead vocal on a Pink Floyd album since 1973's The Dark Side of the Moon.1. Cluster One

What We Saw From The Cheap SeatsWhat We Saw From The Cheap Seats is the much-anticipated new studio album from Regina Spektor which will be released on Sire/Warner Bros. Records. The album reunites Spektor with production partner Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Fiona Apple, Dr. Dre) and is her first album of new material since 2009's Far. The all original 11-song set will be preceded by the lead single All The Rowboats.
What We Saw From The Cheap Seats was recorded over an eight week period in the summer of 2011 in Los Angeles. She arrived at the session with a collection of new compositions, but others were pulled from earlier periods. She and Elizondo fleshed out instrumentation and sought to make each of the songs stand alone sonically. Most of the songs were recorded live with Spektor on piano and vocals, while additional instrumentation was added to these original takes.
Of working with Spektor, Elizondo says Regina Spektor is that rare artist that continues to surprise. Just when you think you have her figured out, she knocks you out with something completely different. It's that spirit that drives this record. Each song takes you on a journey that only Regina is capable of providing. She has truly outdone herself.
Spektor studied classical piano and garnered a loyal live following in New York before self-releasing two albums. Her breakthrough album Soviet Kitsch was released by Sire Records in 2004 followed by Begin to Hope in 2006. The album included worldwide fan favorites Fidelity, Samson, On The Radio and Better and is certified gold in the U.S. Spektor followed up with Far (2009) and Live from London (2010), which was recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo Theater during the Far tour.1. Album Produced By David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth, Andy Jackson
The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios. This was the first time they had done so since the 'Wish You Were Here' sessions in the seventies. Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band's last studio album.
In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River.
The Endless River is a tribute to Rick Wright, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, 'Louder Than Words', (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides and produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.
David Gilmour said:
'''The Endless River' has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions. We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album. Over the last year we've added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.''
Nick Mason said:
'''The Endless River' is a tribute to Rick. I think this record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.''LP 1

Provincial (Out Of Stock)Since 1997, John K. Samson has written four acclaimed albums with The Weakerthans. Provincial, Samsons first solo release began with a simple idea: to explore four different roads in Manitoba, the Canadian province where Samson lives. They're the places I kept going back to. Samson talked to relatives, friends and strangers; he visited archives, a tuberculosis sanatorium turned RV park and a forgotten cemetery.
The result is this collection of evocative songs, an album that fits beside Bruce Springsteens Nebraska, Sun Kil Moons Ghosts Of The Great Highway and Mountain Goats Tallahassee. While the teenage craving of Cruise Night recalls the Cars' Stop Error and invokes Bach; for When I Write my Masters Thesis, Samsons inspiration was all jukebox serendipity, Bob Dylans When I Paint My Masterpiece, sailing out from the corner of a Yukon dive-bar. As Above, So Below (Out Of Stock)With a lineage dating back to 1977, South Londons Angel Witch were leading lights of a now legendary movement known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal that saw their path interwoven with the likes of Iron Maiden, Saxon, Samson, Praying Mantis, the Tygers Of Pan Tang and countless more.
Unlike a great many of the groups with whom they shared stages their style was dark, uncompromising and heavy; a perfect complement for the sword & sorcery-themed lyrics of songs such as White Witch, Gorgon and Angel Of Death no wonder Geoff Barton of Sounds magazine once memorably described their bludgeoning sound as: the first Black Sabbath album played through a cement mixer.
