Beatles For SaleSourced From the Original Master Tapes
Pressed on 180 Gram Vinyl
Cut at Abbey Road Studios
The Beatles for sale is the fourth Studio Album from The Beatles. After Lennon met Bob Dylan on tour, an influence immediatley swept him over and crept into his song writing. A good example of this are the songs, "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" and "I'm a Loser". This album also has the band back to doing a slew of covers due to there rigorous touring schedule but still being able to create great compositions like, "I Feel Fine" and its B-side, "She's a Woman", which for some reason were not included on the album.
Being at the height of Beatlemania and the forth Beatles record in 21 months, most of the song writing and production were done either in the studio or days off from performances, with the bulk of the album being done in about three weeks. When finally released on December 4th 1964 it began a 46 week long run in the charts knocking there last album off the top of the charts for seven weeks.
A team consisting of some of the best producers and engineers in the recording industry were brought together and would spend 4 long years mixing and mastering with some of the most state of the art recording equipment. treating these records much like a science experiment, engineers ran extensive tests before copying the analog master tapes over into a digital format using 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, and carefully removing clicks, vocal pops and poor edits. Never altering the original songs them selves, just polishing them up a bit.1. No Reply

There Goes Rhymin' Simon (On Sale)Retaining the buoyant musical feel of Paul Simon, but employing a more produced sound, There Goes Rhymin' Simon found Paul Simon writing and performing with assurance and venturing into soulful and R&B-oriented music. Simon returned to the kind of vocal pyrotechnics heard on the Simon & Garfunkel records by using gospel singers. On Love Me Like a Rock and Tenderness (which sounded as though it could have been written to Art Garfunkel), the Dixie Hummingbirds sang prominent backup vocals, and on Take Me to the Mardi Gras, Reverend Claude Jeter contributed a falsetto part that Garfunkel could have handled, though not as warmly. For several tracks, Simon traveled to the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to play with its house band, getting a variety of styles, from the gospel of Love Me Like a Rock to the Dixieland of Mardi Gras. Simon was so confident that he even included a major ballad statement of the kind he used to give Garfunkel to sing: American Tune was his musical State of the Union, circa 1973, but this time Simon was up to making his big statements in his own voice. Though that song spoke of the age's most uncertain hour, otherwise Rhymin' Simon was a collection of largely positive, optimistic songs of faith, romance, and commitment, concluding, appropriately, with a lullaby (St. Judy's Comet) and a declaration of maternal love (Loves Me Like a Rock) -- in other words, another mother-and-child reunion that made Paul Simon and There Goes Rhymin' Simon bookend masterpieces Simon would not improve upon (despite some valiant attempts) until Graceland in 1986.

Thriller (25th Anniversary)Ranked 20/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Thriller is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson. It was released on November 30, 1982, by Epic Records as the follow-up to Jackson's critically and commercially successful 1979 album Off the Wall. Thriller explores similar genres to those of Off the Wall, including pop, R&B, rock, post-disco, and adult contemporary music.
Recording sessions took place between April and November 1982 at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California, with a production budget of $750,000, assisted by producer Quincy Jones. Of the nine tracks on the album, four of them were written by Jackson himself. Seven singles were released from the album, all of which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Three of the singles had music videos released. Baby Be Mine and The Lady in My Life were the only tracks that were not released as singles. In just over a year, Thriller became-and currently remains-the best-selling album of all time, with sales estimated by various sources as being between 65 and 110 million copies worldwide.1. Beautiful Cover Art By Renowned Belgian Artist Dave Decat
Directed By N.w. Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives)
The Brussels-based Weme have previous form with regards to issuing soundtrack scores, releasing Francois de Roubaix's compositions for the documentaries L'Antarctique and Autres Seances Electroniques Rue De Courcelles back in 2009. Released in 2009, the stark and violent Valhalla Rising stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) as a mute warrior called One Eye whose travels with a group of Christian crusaders ends in bloody fashion. Winding Refn allegedly wanted the highly lauded Scottish group Mogwai to compose the score, but instead turned to Peter (formerly the guitarist in legendary and incredible Danish rock act Sorte Sol) with whom the director had previously used on his Pusher trilogy. The resultant score in collaboration with his namesake Kyed iss filled with ambient electronic passages and very suited to a film that laid down an early marker for the heavily stylised approach Winding Refn would later gain Hollywood recognition for as director of Ryan Gosling vehicles Drive and Only God Forgives.1. Intoxicated Women (On Sale)It has taken 20 years for Mick Harvey to resume his project of
translating Serge Gainsbourg's songs into English, and following
June's release of Volume 3, Delirium Tremens, Mick Harvey has now
announced the final in the series, Volume 4, Intoxicated Women.
Intoxicated Women contains many duets and songs written by
Gainsbourg, mostly during the 60s, in a period where he was
focusing his songwriting on singers such as France Galle, Juliette
Greco and most famously, Brigitte Bardot.
Mick Harvey explains, "After the initial recordings for Delirium
Tremens, JP Shilo and I continued investigating the duets and female
songs, many of which were unknown to me. So it became a voyage of
discovery into quite a lot of material I hadn't heard before. There are
even a couple of songs for which the only versions existing from the
60s are from TV performances Serge gave." ["The Drowned One" (La
NoyÉe) and "Wolfy Teeth" (Dents de Lait, Dents de Loup)]
The album opens with a stunning version of "Je T'aime (Moi non
plus)" - here titled "Ich Liebe Dich (Ich Dich Auch Nicht)" - rendered
in the sexiest German imaginable by the chanteuse Andrea Schroeder
and culminates with "Cargo Cult," the closing track from the classic
Melody Nelson album. In between, we are treated to a smorgasbord
of Gainsbourg gems in English (with a bit of Khmer thrown in).1. Ich Liebe Dich...Ich Dich Auch Nicht (Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus)

Connect (On Sale)Sick Puppies is a three piece rock band that formed in Australia in the late 1990s. The current lineup for the band is Shimon Moore on guitar, Emma Anzai on bass and Mark Goodwin on drums. In the early 2000s the band, which at the time did not include Mark, moved to the states to start their career as a professional rock band. They were signed to Virgin Records and released their second album, Dressed Up As Life which has sold over 200,000 copies in the United States and abroad since it's release in 2007. The band furthered their career and released their third full length album Tri-Polar in 2009 which featured hits such as, You're Going Down, Riptide, Maybe and Odd One.
Connect is an album that takes all types of Sick Puppies sound and combines it all into one. You have hints of Welcome To the Real World, Dressed Up As Life and Tri-Polar in the album. You have the hard rock and heavy bass songs such as, Die To Save You, There's No Going Back, Walk Away, Gunfight and The Trick The Devil Did; and you have the ballads, Poison, Where Did The Time Go, Telling Lies, Connect, Run, Healing Now and Under A Very Black Sky. The album comes together really well and isn't the bad kind of overpowering. Fans, if you've been anxiously awaiting this album to see if it's good; I'm here to tell you that this album is very good and worth the wait.
My Favorite Song Is... There's No Going Back. The song starts right off the bat with a very rhythmic acoustic guitar. The chorus then comes in and hits you with very strong lyrics. There's no going back / when life's a loaded gun / you pull the trigger, trigger / There's no going back / the past is in the past / thank God it doesn't last forever /. The use of Emma as a backup vocalist has always been something I wanted the band to do in every song, and this song, her small presence gives it such a bigger presence on the album. There's No Going Back is also the band's first single off the album.

Fell & Found (Discontinued) (On Sale)Eleven new songs, produced by J ROBBINS! This is SMALL BROWN BIKE's first full-length featuring the four original members since Our Own Wars, released in 1999 by No Idea Records. Over the past few years, it seems as if every post-hardcore/emo act from the '90s have gotten back together for one more go 'roundhell, Braid are about to reunite for the second time, marking another full cycle in the reunion show. However, when these bands actually get back into the studio, the results have been uneven at best. These factors make Small Brown Bikes first full-length since 2003's The River Bed all the more impressive. Instead of the band members trying to re-create what they were doing in their twenties, songs like In Need Of Everything and Just Bones retain SBB's signature sound but place it in a fresh new context. Credit is also due to producer J Robbins, who brings out the band's melodic underpinnings on songs like Sleep River Sleep, a trait that sometimes got lost beneath layers of distortion in the past. Small steps will lead you to bigger things we cannot see, MIKE REED sings on A Minor Movement. Let's hope that Fell & Found proves Small Brown Bikes reunion journey is just getting started.1. Crow Autumn (On Sale)Crow Autumn is the latest album by English composer Richard Skelton, who releases haunting and evocative music under a variety of guises through his own much-acclaimed Sustain-Release Private Press. From Clouwbeck to Heidika, Carousell to Riftmusic, his recordings brim with intensity and stark beauty, redolent of the landscapes that inspire them.
Recording here as A Broken Consort, his most prolific and successful pseudonym, Skelton expertly builds on the achievements of last year's Box Of Birch, creating a dense-yet-delicate weave of textures from a broad palette of acoustic instruments, including guitar, mandolin, piano, violin and accordion. The result is a stunning sequence of swells and eddies, culminating in the orchestral intensity of The River, with its torrent of interleaved violin melodies and seething undertow.
Originally released in two installments on the artist's own label, this special edition for Tompkins Square distills the essence of those recordings into a coherent whole, and augments them with new material, including the beautifully elegiac Like Rain, and the brooding coda of Leaves. With Crow Autumn, Skelton has created a work of enduring beauty that should firmly establish him as one of England's most uniquely talented contemporary artists, capable of rendering with a fine brush the visceral majesty of the natural landscape.1. Let Me Come Home (Discontinued) (On Sale)Broken Records' second album Let Me Come Home started out as a series of sketches and song fragments in frontman Jamie Sutherlands kitchen, later taking form in demo sessions at an old distillery grain store in the Scottish Highlands. The follow-up to 2009's Until The Earth Begins To Part, the album was recorded and produced by Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Delgados, Belle & Sebastian) at his Studio in Glasgow.
An idea started to form about the direction of the new record based on several films and albums that I became gradually obsessed with at that time. Watching the widescreen emptiness of films Badlands, Rumble Fish and East Of Eden, as well as records such as Bruce Springsteens Nebraska, Nick Caves Murder Ballads, Calexicos Feast Of Wire, and REMs early back catalogue all became a strong influence on the direction of the new songs. It was also during this time that the lyrical theme of the record started to take shape, thinking about what was going on around me in the form of fears and concerns over making relationships work, and a need for security. - Jamie Sutherland1. The Led Zeppelin reissue campaign got off to an remarkable start in June as deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. The albums achieved similar international success with debuts near the top of the charts in more than a dozen territories, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
The band has now prepared the reissues of Led Zeppelin IV (the third best-selling album in U.S. history) and Houses Of The Holy. As with the previous editions, this album has been newly remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page .
Led Zeppelin topped the charts in 1973 with Houses Of The Holy, which features legendary tracks such as "The Song Remains The Same" and "No Quarter" while also showcasing the continuing evolution of the band's signature sound with the reggae-tinged "D'yer Mak'er" and the funk jam "The Crunge" The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales of over 11 million copies.
In 1968, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Page brought in Plant, Bonham and Jones to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.
Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant - along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham - took the stage at London's O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records' founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. Downtown Blues (On Sale)Import
African American singer and guitar player who got his start playing on the streets of Memphis around the turn of the century. His enormous repertoire of early folk, blues, old time country and popular music, along with his influence on local musicians has made many point to him as the true father of Memphis blues. He began touring the South with a black face Medicine Show comedian in the 1910s where it is said he met and influenced Jimmie Rodgers, among others. He then moved to Tennessee where he began playing with musician Dan Sane with whom he made his first recordings as the Beale Street Sheiks for Paramount in 1927. Throughout this period Stokes recorded a number of sides for Paramount and Victor until his old time style began to lose popularity with the record buying public.1. Downtown Blues

Bob DylanBob Dylan on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram 45RPM 2LP from Mobile Fidelity
Understated 1962 Debut Launched Immeasurably Influential Career
Album Stands as Clearest Connection to Dylan's Purist Folk Roots
Ghosts of Woody Guthrie and Blues Legends Appear Throughout Recording of Originals and Covers
Transparent to the Source: Hyper-Detailed 45RPM Pressing Brings the Simple Sounds of Dylan's Voice, Acoustic Guitar, and Harmonica into Lifelike Perspective
Bob Dylan's self-titled 1962 debut is as understated of an entrance as any significant musician as ever made. Already well-versed in American roots music, Dylan simultaneously pays homage to tradition and extends it by putting his own stamp on classic material that metaphorically functions as the soil of our contemporary songs and styles. Free of ego, and performed with masterful conviction, Bob Dylan ranks with the debut efforts of similar artistic giants Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones.
Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this restored 180 gram 45RPM 2LP analog version brings the contents of this seminal release as closest as they've ever come to master tape-quality. Transparent to the source, the simple sounds of Dylan's voice, acoustic guitar, and harmonica take on lifelike perspective and dimensions-the "husk and bark" to which Robert Shelton referred in his now-legendary New York Times review of a Dylan appearance at Gerde's Folk City. MoFi has made possible an inexpensive time-traveling trip back to the Greenwich Village coffeehouses and folk clubs in which Dylan cut his teeth, albeit in much better fidelity and without any annoying background noise. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.
Much has been made of the commercial indifference that greeted the album upon its low-key release. Yet focusing on sales figures and the reaction of a public not yet hip to Dylan's name or music is to miss the forest for the trees. Distinguished from the era's other folk efforts by way of the determination, brazenness, and lived-through-this worldliness Dylan approaches the material and sings the songs, Dylan lays the groundwork for the path he'd soon trailblaze and everyone else would follow.
By nodding to Woody Guthrie at the same time he completely re-imagines a sobering tune such as Blind Lemon Jefferson's "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean," Dylan straddles the past and future. He also displays, with challenging authority and savant-like expertise, the ability to handle weighty topics such as death, sorrow, and lamentation with the vaudeville flair, bluesy mannerisms, and poignant command of an artist three times his age.
As Dylan scholar and pop-culture critic Greil Marcus observed in 2010, "Everybody knew Joan Baez and the Kingston Trio; if you knew Bob Dylan, you knew something other people didn't, something that soon enough everybody had to know. Within a year, an album could put an adjective in front of the singer's name as if it were already common coin." It all starts here.1. You're No Good

The Pick Of Destiny (On Sale)Like Spinal Tap, the Rutles, and even the Bonzo Dog Band, Tenacious D manage to send up rock conventions while employing them expertly. The soundtrack to their first full-length motion picture mixes songs and bits from the movie, but it plays like a hilarious concept album more than anything. Dave Grohl and (one half of the) Dust Brothers--who played on the D's delicious 2001 debut--are here joined by Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio. The title song navigates power balladry from the late '80s and early '90s in ways most awesome, while also throwing in a bridge that rips on faux-mystical elf-progisms of '70s stadium rock. --Mike McGonigal

The Verve / MGM TapesSourced from the original Verve/MGM analog reels and mastered by Bob Irwin.
At a time when the Rolling Stones were forbidden from singing about spending the night together on national television, the Velvet Underground was crafting songs about such taboo subjects as illegal drugs, sadomasochism and black angels of death. And that was just on their debut. Throughout their first three albums, VU continued to challenge societal norms through their lyrics and rock music itself through their unorthodox instrumental approach. Their sound was theirs alone, which proved to be an obstacle when it came to sales. The majority of popular music fans simply weren't ready for the bleakly beautiful vision of VU. But for those who were, this LP trilogy was a clarion call, drawing together the outsiders who felt disenfranchised and unfulfilled by Top Forty fodder. Like time release capsules, these LPs became catalysts for change as they spread from city to city and were consumed by adventurous listeners. Bands formed, scenes coalesced and new musical paths emerged which would eventually branch off into punk, alternative, indie and more. Take a sample from any underground music genre and you're likely to find VU DNA pulsing through its core.
As the alternative scene grew, so did the legend of the Velvet Underground. However, with relatively few of the original LPs in circulation, finding them could be difficult and, as a result, more people had probably heard OF the band than had actually heard their music. The emergence of compact discs in the mid-80s, along with a groundswell of VU-influenced bands singing their praises, finally got their music into wider distribution. Yet, for vinyl enthusiasts who longed to place those precious albums on their turntables, that thrill remained elusive.
Until now. With tremendous pride, Sundazed presents The Velvet Underground: The Verve/MGM Albums. This beautiful, deluxe boxed set gathers the rare mono versions of the band's first three studio albums along with the superior mono version of Nico's Chelsea Girl and a definitive edition of the band's unfinished fourth album! PersonA (On Sale)Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros have announced the release of their new album PersonA, a ten-track collection recorded in New Orleans. PersonA is the follow-up to their self-titled last studio release in 2013 and will be the band's fourth full-length album. The band is known for their authentic sound and since the album was recorded in New Orleans, their non-digitally altered voices or electronically manipulated sounds are sure to make an appearance on all ten tracks.
Interestingly, it should be noted that the band have stylized their name with a line crossing out the Edward Sharpe part of their band name, which is a symbolic representation of the band removing the notion of a singer plus the band. A literal strike though the Edward Sharpe phase of their career, a press release explains.
"No Love Like Yours" is their first official single off PersonA. While "Hot Coals" was released last year, it was not announced as the album's first song. However, both tracks have set the tone for the album, so fans can start to gather an idea of what to expect. "No Love Like Yours" is a simple upbeat sound, taking you back to the classic Beatles. On the other hand, "Hot Coals" begins with a dark sound while using subtly positive notes on the piano to accompany the deep trumpets and elegant drumbeats.

The Smashing Pumpkins' career-defining 1995 double album Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness has earned Diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10,000,000 discs and digital equivalent per disc (5 million copies of the double album). This news comes in the midst of EMI Music's extensive reissue campaign honoring the legacy of the iconic alternative band. It continues December 3 in North America and December 4 internationally with the Pumpkins' fourth album Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness receiving the fully remastered treatment for the first time. This follows last year's acclaimed reissues of the band's groundbreaking first two albums, Gish (1991) and Siamese Dream (1993), as well as this past summer's Pisces Iscariot (1994), the band's third album.
Originally released October 24, 1995, Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness would debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified 9x platinum by the RIAA. It yielded major hits like ''Bullet With Butterfly Wings''-the band's unlikely first Top 40 hit-the exquisite ''1979'' and epic ''Tonight, Tonight'' as well as a thoroughly inspired series of videos. Produced by BILLY CORGAN, Flood and Alan Moulder, the album would also earn a Grammy Award (1996 Best Hard Rock Performance for ''Bullet With Butterfly Wings'') as well as seven nominations. Beyond the more obvious hits, though, Mellon Collie is a song cycle of unusual depth and considerable range. It is a collection of stunningly beautiful moments when everything lined up--a moment in time that's still here to be treasured.1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Nothin But LoveFive-time Grammy award winning legend and Blues Hall of Fame Inductee Robert Cray is proud to announce the release of his brand new studio album, Nothin But Love, on Provogue Records. Produced by Kevin Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes), the 10-song set includes material written by all four Robert Cray Band members; Robert Cray (vocals/guitar), Jim Pugh (keyboards), Cray Band co-founder Richard Cousins (bass) and Tony Braunagel (drums). Nothin But Love blends blues, rock, soul and jazz, with a lyric-sheet that examines the triumphs, fallouts and follies of love.
Produced with what Shirley refers to as "the dirt under the fingernails," Nothin But Love was recorded live over two-weeks at the Revolver Studios in LA. The album features the soaring break-up blues of Won't Be Coming Home, the jazz chops of I'll Always Remember You, the soul-drenched ode to repossession that is Great Big Old House and the frantic '50s-flavoured rocker Side Dish. The album is Cray's sixteenth studio effort overall and marks the latest milestone in a career that has produced 15 Grammy award nominations (5 wins), over 12 million record sales worldwide, thousands of sold out concerts across the globe, and even his own signature line of Fender guitars.
"Kevin did an amazing job producing this album and I'm really happy with the outcome," says Cray, "he captured the real essence of the Robert Cray Band, that live energy we deliver on the road that is usually so difficult to nail down in the studio. I think it's one of the strongest records that we've done."1. Won't Be Coming Home

The Old MagicOf Nick Lowe, NPR once observed, Few musicians get better with age, Nick Lowe is an exception. While it's undeniable that his last album garnered Lowe the best reviews of his career and his best one-week sales in the Soundscan era, there is little doubt that he has always been at the forefront of modern music. Be it his production work with The Damned, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders or his stone-classic solo albums Jesus of Cool or Labour of Lust, Nick has always set the standard for smart, switchblade-sharp pop music.
His latest album, The Old Magic continues Lowe's late-career evolution with arguably his best collection yet. Amidst urbanely insistent grooves (Sensitive Man), and spare-yet-imposing shuffles (Checkout Time), The Old Magic features three exceptional Lowe ballads: album opener Stoplight Roses, House for Sale and I Read A Lot. As is his custom, Lowe also peppers the album with three covers by Elvis Costello, Tom T. Hall and Jeff West that fit seamlessly with his originals. The Old Magic might be the album title equivalent of calling your shot, but for Nick Lowe it seems more a simple statement of fact.1. Stoplight Roses

Beatles For Sale (Mono)The Beatles' Original Mono Studio Album Remastered At Abbey Road Directly From The Analogue Masters For Vinyl Release By Sean Magee and Steve Berkowitz
Lacquers Cut Using Neumann VMS-80 Lathe
Manufactured For The World At Optimal Media In Germany, The Beatles' Albums Are Presented In Their Original Glory, Both Sonically And In Their Packaging.
The Beatles in mono: This is how most listeners first heard the group in the 1960s, when mono was the predominant audio format. Up until 1968, each Beatles album was given a unique mono and stereo mix, but the group always regarded the mono as primary. The Beatles' nine U.K. albums, the American-compiled Magical Mystery Tour, and the Mono Masters collection of non-album tracks will be released in mono on 180-gram vinyl LPs with faithfully replicated artwork. Newly mastered from the analogue master tapes, each album will be available both individually and within a lavish, limited 14-LP boxed edition, The Beatles In Mono, which also includes a 108-page hardbound book.
In an audiophile-minded undertaking, The Beatles' acclaimed mono albums have been newly mastered for vinyl from quarter-inch master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by GRAMMY®-winning engineer Sean Magee and GRAMMY®-winning mastering supervisor Steve Berkowitz. While The Beatles In Mono CD boxed set released in 2009 was created from digital remasters, for this new vinyl project, Magee and Berkowitz cut the records without using any digital technology. Instead, they employed the same procedures used in the 1960s, guided by the original albums and by detailed transfer notes made by the original cutting engineers. Working in the same room at Abbey Road where most of The Beatles' albums were initially cut, the pair first dedicated weeks to concentrated listening, fastidiously comparing the master tapes with first pressings of the mono records made in the 1960s. Using a rigorously tested Studer A80 machine to play back the precious tapes, the new vinyl was cut on a 1980s-era VMS80 lathe.
Via Michael Fremer (Analog Planet) on the mastering process:
The EQ applied was based upon the original cutting engineers' notes as well as careful listening to original first lacquer, first mother, first stamper EMI pressings (-1, 1, G matrix). The cartridge used was Ortofon's 2M Black.
It's important to remember that the tapes have aged-some as much as fifty years-and the monitoring, playback and mastering equipment have changed as well, even though the work was done in the very same room in which the originals were mastered. Solid state has replaced tubes in the cutting chain.
Lacquers were cut using Abbey Road Studios' Neumann VMS-80 lathe, equipped with a Neumann SX-74 cutter head. The originals were cut on a Scully lathe, perhaps with a Westrex cutter head.1. No Reply
