Originally released on two EPs and mired in controversy, Love Is Hell is a staggeringly personal report on romantic desolation, personal frustration, and incurable loneliness whose themes play out via splendidly crooned vocals, chamber-pop strings, and spare pianos. The excising of pain has rarely sounded more bittersweet-or spiritual.

    Prisoner

Prisoner is the follow-up to 1989, Adams' song-for-song remake of Taylor Swift's album of the same name. It marks Adams' first full-length collection of new music since 2014's Ryan Adams.

In a recent interview with the Japan Times, Adams spoke about the inspiration for the album:

I started writing this record while I was going through a very public divorce, which is a humiliating and just a fucking horrible thing to go through no matter who you are. To be me and to go through that the way that I did was destructive on a level that I can't explain. So a lot of extra work went into keeping my chin up and remembering what I did and what I loved about who I was.

    Heartbreaker

With a touch of Robyn Hitchcock in his vocal timbre, a smidgen of Steve Earle in his narratives and instrumental writing, and a heap of Gram Parsons in the fullness of his overall sound and structure, Ryan Adams steps well above Whiskeytown with Heartbreaker, his solo debut. By turns raucous, wistful, raspy, and simply sweet, Adams makes the most of a top-shelf acoustic band, including Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and even a guest spot from Emmylou Harris on the tenderly yearning Oh My Sweet Caroline. There's little dependence on the usual alt-country twang and a far more rounded sense of textures here (the multiple vocal tracks on Amy, for example, sound Beatles-esque), with glockenspiel, organ, and more signaling a sonic field of extensive depth. His spare guitar and stretched-thin vocal delivery alternate smartly with a bigger-shouldered guitar and throaty voice, never leaving behind a band conception straight out of Parsons's oeuvre. Adams signals occupancy of the post-alt-country vanguard--if there is such a thing. --Andy Bartlett

    Ashes And Fire

Ryan Adams' new album, Ashes & Fire, is the singer/songwriter's first solo album to be released via a new arrangement with his own label, PAX-AM, and EMIs Capitol Records. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound Factory in Hollywood and produced by Glyn Johns, renowned for his work with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash, The Who and The Rolling Stones, and whose son Ethan produced previous Adams albums Heartbreaker, Gold and 29.

From the slow-burning opening stunner Dirty Rain through the infectious shuffle of the title track, to the irresistible harmonies of Lucky Now and the closing lament of I Love You But I Dont Know What To Say, Ashes & Fire is arguably the most cohesive and beautiful album of Adams distinguished career.

    Featuring Norah Jones

Norah Jones has a lot of friends. So many that she's been able to put together a compelling collection of her collaborations during the past decade with no less than 18 other artists. Among those invited to her party: Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Ryan Adams, Outkast, and Foo Fighters. How cool is that?

Encompassing rock, country, pop, jazz, and more, the tracks span back to Jones' earliest recordings (a version of Roxy Music's More Than This with guitarist Charlie Hunter in 2001) and fast forward to her most recent performances, as Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John was recently cut with twee-pop darlings Belle and Sebastian. Featuring Norah Jones also includes recordings by some of Jones' own bands and side projects like The Little Willies and El Madmo, as well as performances with artists that she's toured with, including M. Ward, Sasha Dobson and Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings.

It's so exciting and flattering and fun when I get asked to sing with somebody that I admire, explains Jones. It takes you a little bit out of your comfort zone when you're doing something with another artist. You don't know what to expect-it's kind of like being a little kid and having a playdate.

    29

On his third release of a most prolific year, Ryan Adams takes a break from his band, the Cardinals, to fashion an introspective song cycle with stripped-down arrangements focused on acoustic guitar or solo piano. After the propulsive, self-mythologizing title track opens the album in brazen fashion, forging an unlikely bond of comparison between John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band and the early '70s Grateful Dead, much of the rest of 29 finds Adams at his dreamiest (the reveries of Strawberry Wine and Elizabeth, You Were Born to Play That Part) and most rapturously romantic (the aching falsetto on the lovesick Starlite Diner). He continues to take chances and not all of them pay off, with the underwatery echo of Night Birds and the over-the-top dramatics of The Sadness showing the downside of self-indulgence, though Carolina Rain suggests he can return to the alt-country prime of Whiskeytown whenever the mood strikes. With the intimacy of the closing Voices, Ryan Adams sounds less like he is singing a song than sharing a secret. Refusing to rein himself in or pin himself down, he sings on the title track, You can't hang on to something that won't stop moving.

    1989 (Ryan Adams)

There's no disguising how Ryan Adams flips Taylor Swift's 1989 upside-down, turning a moment of triumph into bedsit introspection, a concept that is undoubtedly theoretically interesting, but the record works because Adams doesn't play this as a stunt. He's as canny a producer as he is a conceptualist, coaxing forgotten college rock sounds out of his Pax-Am Studios and treating Swift's originals as text to be interpreted, a move that neither saves nor strengthens the originals but rather highlights the skill of Taylor the songwriter and Adams the musician.

    180-Gram White Vinyl

Produced By Ryan Adams At His Pax-Am Studios

"Lovely melody counterbalanced by rough guitars and
    lightning-quick solos." - SPIN

After the punky heft and wildness of 2014's Hour of the Dawn,
an LP that thrashed against expectation, La Sera returns with
a set of songs that double down on the power of wry lyrics,
glorious guitar, driving backbeat, and the occasional pump
    organ groove.

Ryan Adams joins to produce the fruit of their union, La Sera's
first live-recorded analog album, featuring 10 tunes about
good love, bad love, dead men, and confused kids.

As a testament to the chemistry that happened in that
space, Music For Listening to Music To spawned another
fruitful relationship: Adams and Wisenbaker hit it off and
decided to start their own band. Instead they wound up
recording a bunch of Taylor Swift covers, which became
    the 1989 album.

    Strangers Almanac (Awaiting Repress)

Whiskeytown, a highly acclaimed founding band of the alt-country/No Depression scene, launched the solo career of four-time Grammy®-nominated singer-songwriter-guitarist Ryan Adams as well as that of fiddler-singer-songwriter Caitlin Cary. Now the groups 1997 major label debut album, an overlooked gem from a band considered one of the genres most promising, is being released for the first time ever on vinyl.

1997's Strangers Almanac was Whiskeytown's major-label debut and the album that first introduced Ryan Adams to a wide audience, but at the same time it marked the beginning of the end for the group. When Whiskeytown went into the studio to record Strangers Almanac, the band had undergone the first of what would become a long line of personnel shakeups, and in addition to Ryan Adams, the only proper members of the group on hand for the sessions were violinist and vocalist Caitlin Cary and guitarist Phil Wandscher; session musicians filled out the lineup, while the new rhythm section, Jeff Rice (bass) and Steve Terry (drums), was hired only two weeks before recording began. Despite its chaotic creation, Strangers Almanac sounds stronger and more cohesive than its ragged but forceful indie predecessor, Faithless Street, and there's a deeper resonance in Ryan Adams' tales of wasted nights and wasted lives, such as Inn Town, Losering, and Dancing with the Women at the Bar. Strangers Almanac doesn't rock as hard as Whiskeytown's earlier material, but when the guitars kick into high gear on Yesterday's News and Waiting to Derail, it reveals just how good a match Ryan Adams and Wandscher were, and Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight and 16 Days are as strong and moving as their country gestures got. Strangers Almanac captures Whiskeytown when they still had some business calling themselves a band rather than just Ryan Adams' backing musicians, and the glorious world-weariness of its best moments makes it a far more satisfying listen than most of what would follow once Ryan Adams struck out on his own.

Double Audiophile 180g Gatefold Vinyl Pressed by Pallas in Germany w/ CD Housed in a Cardboard Sleeve

The Band's Debut Release on their Newly Launched dBpm Records

For Wilco, the release of The Whole Love represents more than just the eighth studio album from this innovative Chicago rock band. It signifies yet another new chapter in the bands constantly evolving, enduring and storied career. Just as their departure from Warner Bros. for the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot created a thrilling story, now The Whole Love, on their newly launched dBpm Records, sets one of contemporary music's most creative and independent-minded bands on a wide open road.

Recorded in their northside Chicago loft, the 12 new songs on The Whole Love capture the balance between the bands art sensibilities, their fondness for traditional American music and their love of classic guitar-driven pop rock. The Whole Love is a veritable sonic stew, showcasing Wilcos far-reaching musical prowess (multiple guitars, keyboards, synthesizers and percussion plus Mellotron, strings, loops and more) perfectly accompany Jeff Tweedys provocative and insightful lyrics. The album was produced by the band and engineered by Tom Schick (Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright).

Coinciding with the albums release will be the first leg of Wilcos North American tour, including 2 nights in Toronto's Massey Hall, New York City's Central Park, Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and Atlanta plus shows in Boston, DC, Raleigh, St. Louis and a bunch of other cool stuff east of the Mississippi. Nick Lowe, whose song I Love My Label was ceremoniously covered by the band for the b-side of their I Might 7 single, supports on all dates.

God Willin' And The Creek Don't Rise

God Willin' And The Creek Don't Rise is Ray Lamontagne's fourth studio record, and follow-up to the heralded Gossip in the Grain. Entirely self produced (for the first time), the album was recorded in two weeks at the homemade recording studio in LaMontagnes newly restored historic home in the woods of western Massachusetts. With Rays vocals at the forefront of the songs and a loose, almost live sounding recording, the album stands as a testament to a band at the height of their powers. The newly coined Pariah Dogs consist of Jay Bellarose (drums), Jennifer Condos (bass), Patrick Warren (keyboard), Eric Heywood (guitar) and Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar). Individually, these musicians have contributed to the live work of such heralded musicians as Beck, Joe Henry, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams and Joe Cocker to name a few.

    The Voyager

Celebrated California singer songwriter Jenny Lewis returns with The Voyager, which will be released by Warner Bros. Records. This is the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman's third solo album and first in six years, following 2006's Rabbit Fur Coat (with The Watson Twins) and 2008's Acid Tongue.

The Voyager is Lewis' most deeply personal album to date, documenting her struggle to cope following the death of her estranged father in 2010 and the subsequent break-up of Rilo Kiley. The Voyager's rootsy, golden glow comes courtesy of Lewis and the artists she chose to produce various tracks, including Ryan Adams (who, alongside Mike Viola, produced all but three of the tracks), Beck, and Lewis' longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice. The Voyager finds the always relatable songwriter at her sharp-witted best, singing about her recent experiences with honesty and incisiveness.

    Interludes For The Dead

Circles Around The Sun (Neal Casal) was commissioned to compose and record over five hours of original music for the intermissions at the Fare Thee Well shows. There was such a positive response to the music that Rhino US will be releasing it!

Neal Casal is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and photographer. First rising to prominence as lead guitar with Rickey Medlocke's Blackfoot from 1988-1993, Neal was best known as a member of Ryan Adams' backing band the Cardinals, with whom he recorded three studio albums, and of whom he was a member from 2005 until 2009. Casal currently plays in the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, and has released twelve solo albums.

    Little Neon Limelight

"An album is, or ought to be, a complete picture. It should come in waves,
changing its focal point when things get too predictable or settled."

With this statement to Ann Powers that accompanied NPR's premiere of Houndmouth's
surreal, Dylanesque ballad "For No One," singer/guitarist Matt Myers -
perhaps inadvertently - issued a mission statement for the band's second album.
Little Neon Limelight finds the four-piece stretching out in every direction. Working
with producer Dave Cobb in Nashville, they were able to bring the kind of size and
warmth that does justice to this batch of songs, worked out over eighteen months
on the road, and resonant with joy, hurt, loneliness, glory: all of human ache and
    loveliness.

Little Neon Limelight finds Houndmouth further differentiating themselves from the
airtight song structures and shouty singalongs of the current "Americana" scene,
treading into territory occupied by not only their Southern rock forebears, but with
an attention to songwriting and vocal performance recalling at times The Band,
Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, the Beatles, and the Kinks.

"If you want to live the good life, you've gotta stay away from the limelight," Houndmouth
sings in the chorus to album track "My Cousin Greg." With their outstanding
new record, and a substantial fanbase that swells with every show they play, it will
soon be difficult for Houndmouth to follow their own rule.
