    Avalon

Flesh + Blood suggested that Roxy Music were at the end of the line, but they regrouped and recorded the lovely Avalon, one of their finest albums. Certainly, the lush, elegant soundscapes of Avalon are far removed from the edgy avant-pop of their early records, yet it represents another landmark in their career. With its stylish, romantic washes of synthesizers and Bryan Ferry's elegant, seductive croon, Avalon simultaneously functioned as sophisticated make-out music for yuppies and as the maturation of synth pop. Ferry was never this romantic or seductive, either with Roxy or as a solo artist, and Avalon shimmers with elegance in both its music and its lyrics. More Than This, Take a Chance with Me, While My Heart Is Still Beating, and the title track are immaculately crafted and subtle songs, where the shifting synthesizers and murmured vocals gradually reveal the melodies. It's a rich, textured album and a graceful way to end the band's career.

    Roxy Music

Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music's self-titled debut shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures. Bryan Ferry tracks out his nightclub glamour-boy persona here and his wandering vibratos sail over Brian Eno's atonal flourishes, but what really makes Roxy Music such a confident, astonishing debut is how these primitive avant-garde tendencies are married to full-fledged songs, whether it's the free-form, structure-bending Remake/Remodel or the sleek glam of Virginia Plain.

    Country Life

Ranked 387/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Country Life is Roxy Music's second release after the departure of Brian Eno and it's arguably the highpoint of the band's ouput from that era. The haunting, melancholic The Thrill of It All, the art-rockin' Out of the Blue, the almost-pure '50s rock of If It Takes All Night, the decadent affectations of A Really Good Time and the concluding Prairie Rose, all offer glimpses of alternative rock before the genre even existed. The combination of textures is exhilarating, and the songwriting which draws on elements of R&B, cabaret music and glam rock is among the band's most accomplished. The Wild Places

After two critically acclaimed albums showing his Renaissance influenced acoustic guitar picking, Duncan Browne went full-on electric half way through the Seventies with both his newly formed band Metro and several solo albums. It brought him near the cutting edge of the music industry and the closest he ever got to rock stardom, his records sought after in locales like New York's East Village and played on American college radio stations.

The Wild Places is the first of these electric solo albums, featuring the hit single title tack. Originally released in 1978, the music has a sense of drama closer to Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music than his previous efforts. Featuring a fierce sound with lush keyboards and beautiful melodies, this is Browne at the top of his game.

    Stranded

Roxy Music began to reign in its unsettling, quirky art rock on Stranded, the band's third album. In absense of keyboardist/arranger Brain Eno, vocalist Bryan Ferry assumes full control of Roxy Music's musical direction, moving toward a less overtly experimental, yet still progressive and eccentric style. Ferry still sings in a camp-styled croon, yet his songwriting is sharper and more nuanced here, as is conveyed by the enigmatic Psalm and the multi-part Mother of Pearl. Stranded also introduces violinist Eddie Jobson, whose contributions slotted in perfectly alongside reed player Andy Mackay and guitarist Phil Manzanera. There is no denying that this incarnation of the band represents Ferry's vision and the album provides the ideal structure for Ferry's quirky themes and style. Here on Limited Edition 180g Vinyl.

    Paper Gods

Duran personified new wave for much of the mainstream audience. Duran Duran's reputation was built through music videos, which accentuated their fashion-model looks and glamorous sense of style. Without music videos, it's likely that their pop-funk -- described by the group as the Sex Pistols meets Chic-- would never have made them international pop stars.

Inspired by David Bowie and Roxy Music, as well as post-punk and disco, schoolmates Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (guitar) formed Duran Duran in 1978 with their friends Simon Colley (bass, clarinet) and Stephen Duffy (vocals). Taking their name from a character in Roger Vadim's psychedelic sci-fi film Barbarella, the group began playing gigs in the Birmingham club, supported by a drum machine. Within a year, Duffy and Colley both left the and were replaced by former TV Eye vocalist Andy Wickett and drummer Roger Taylor. After recording a demo, John Taylor switched to bass and guitarist John Curtis joined the band, only to leave within a matter of months. The group placed an ad in Melody Maker, which drew the attention of Andy Taylor, who became their guitarist. Following Wickett's departure in 1979, a pair of singers passed through the group before Simon LeBon, a former member of the punk band Dog Days and a drama student at Birmingham University, joined in early 1980.

Listen Like Thieves on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Breakthrough 1985 Album Charted Three Great Singles

Australian Band Finds Its Groove With Bluesy Grooves, Pop Hooks

Includes "What You Need," "Listen Like Thieves," and "Kiss the Dirt"

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

True to the title of the record's smash single, INXS gives you what you need on Listen Like Thieves. Originally released in 1985, the breakthrough album marked the group's deserved entrance into the mainstream radio sphere and commercial charts. With its sound honed from prior records, INXS develops an enviably balanced combination of dance grooves, bluesy persuasion, acoustic framing, and pop bluster on this batch of supremely catchy fare, equally memorable for its melodic nature and stylistic fusion.

Working with producer Chris Thomas (John Cale, Pete Townshend, Roxy Music), INXS expands its versatility and reach. Vocalist Michael Hutchence, too, comes into his own, singing more confidently, soulfully, and warmly than in the past. While avoiding cheap imitation, the Aussies turn to the Rolling Stones as influences, churning out thick riffs and slithering rhythms that aim for the hips and stimulate the feet. Hutchence splits the difference between the sexual bravado of Mick Jagger and primal depth of Jim Morrison, and in doing so, establishes himself as an original who's always careful not to overdo anything or overstay his welcome.

Bolstered by a series of can't-miss singles-the swaggeringly funky "What You Need," sharp thrust of "Listen Like Thieves," and wistful "Kiss the Dirt"-Listen Like Thieves teems with glorious hooks and intertwining instrumentation that cross-pollinates jazz, R&B, new-wave, and pub rock. Honking saxophone lines surge throughout, punctuating the spare chords and driving bridges with an insouciant edge missing from most of the decade's pop. A knack for atmospheric production also plays a large role. On "Shine Like It Does," a majestic moodiness takes hold, while "This Time" gives U2 a run for its money.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, Silver Series' numbered limited edition LP significantly enhances the midband, textural qualities, and ample spaciousness-all previously boxed-in on prior editions. The character of the bass notes, as well as the depth and breathiness of the vocals are also noticeably improved, bringing out the music's personality and dynamics like never before.

    Duran Duran

Duran Duran's eponymous debut artfully coalesced the sonic and stylistic elements of the burgeoning new romantic movement they were soon to spearhead: pumping synths, glossy production, and seemingly impossible haircuts. Ultra-smart singles like Girls on Film and Planet Earth became instant smash hits both in the U.K. and America, and other fine pop gems such as Anyone Out There and Careless Memories rounded out the album's stellar first side.

Side two was a far more experimental and revealing affair, with primary songwriter Nick Rhodes leading the band through atmospheric mood-pieces like Night Boat, Sound of Thunder, and the instrumental Tel Aviv, all of which are particularly reminiscent of mid-era Roxy Music (clearly one of Duran's biggest influences).

    The Jazz Age (Awaiting Repress)

If there was ever a musical icon and a decade destined to come together it is Bryan Ferry and the Roaring Twenties. The artist as creative powerhouse with a dazzling career of endless surprise, delight and innovation, and the decade - a time of modernity, decadence and bright young things - all driven on by the thrill of it all.

So what better way to celebrate and mark the 40th year anniversary of Ferry's incredible career as a singer and songwriter, than by rearranging his own compositions and have them performed in a 1920's style by his very own Jazz Orchestra? It began as an idea, fueled by Ferry's fascination of that time between the wars known as The Jazz Age. He decided the songs were to be all completely instrumental reinterpretations. A lot of the music I listen to nowadays is instrumental, he explains and I wanted to let my songs have a different life, a life without words.

He put together his very own jazz orchestra comprised of many of the great British jazz players from his past tribute to the 1930's, the album As Time Goes By - including his long-term musical director Colin Good, with whom Ferry worked closely on these new arrangements. The 13 songs have been chosen from 11 albums, from his very first release Roxy Music (1972) to his recent solo record Olympia (2010)

    Good Evening (Awaiting Repress)

Occupying the twilit space between Ariel Pink's lo-fi avant pop and the codeine beats of Chromatics, Nite Jewel's debut album, Good Evening, brought a glorious new slant to the golden age of disco and became an after-hours go to from the record shelf. Recorded when Ramona Gonzalez was still a college student, Good Evening was originally released on Gloriette Records in 2008. The album is dance music on an intimate scale, drawing inspiration from Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and Arthur Russell, filtered through a lo-fi recording process. Out of print on vinyl for several years, the reissue will include two bonus tracks, a cover of Can forebear Inner Space's The Kamera Song and a D M-FunK remix of original track What Did He Say. The updated reissue packaging also includes Gonzalez's art, poetry and lyrics from the time period.

Upon its release, Gonzalez had been making music on an 8-track for a number of years, slowly evolving from ambient pieces and sound and video installation art to her gradually writing proper songs with Cole M. Grieff-Neill, of Haunted Graffiti, and selling self-produced demo CDR's at shows. Eventually, her music - an evocative, bedroom studio take on dancefloor greats like Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and Debbie Deb - caught the ears of one Johnny Jewel, head honcho of the venerated Italians Do It Better, who released her debut single What Did He Say on his label.

The music is anything but cold and detached - it vibrates with warmth, from the low hum of tape hiss to the way Gonzalez' ethereal vocals and humid analogue synths tips its hat to past greats like Arthur Russell, Sa-Fire and even Roxy Music. Ultimately, for what can be ostensibly termed dance music, Good Evening is a delicate, intimate affair, a beautifully sustained exercise in mood and tension, and far more precious and intriguing a record than most others at the moment.

Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (of Underworld) come together with a new album to be released this May on Warp Records. This is the first vocal/band project from Eno since 2008's David Byrne collaboration. Someday World comprises nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde together with a highly distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Eno's Roxy Music bandmate Andy Mackay, Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro. Following his 2013 Grammy nominated album LUX, Brian Eno produced this new album with 20 year old Fred Gibson, and continues an ongoing collaboration between Hyde & Eno which sees the two together on a complete album for the first time. "I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. Rattle That Lock

Rattle That Lock is the new solo album by David Gilmour, the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd. This is David's fourth solo album, and the first since 2006's # 1 album On An Island. The primary lyricist for Rattle That Lock is Gilmour's long-term writing partner, Polly Samson, and the album is co-produced by David Gilmour and Roxy Music s Phil Manzanera. The album's striking cover has been art directed by Dave Stansbie.

The lead single of this album is the title track, Rattle That Lock. The song begins with the four notes, created by Michael Boumendil, which precede announcements at French SNCF railway stations which Gilmour recorded on his iphone at Aix station. Samson's lyrics are inspired by Book 2 of John Milton's Paradise Lost, which is also featured in her recent acclaimed novel, The Kindness. The single also features the Liberty Choir and singers Mica Paris and Louise Marshall.

Three years in the making, Paul's Tomb: A Triumph marks Frog Eyes' thunderous, frantic, fiery return. This is a slow-brewed masterpiece that is unmistakably Frog Eyes, a new album that was very much worth the wait. On this point we feel unassailable: Frog Eyes keeps getting better and better. Frog Eyes are equally informed by Scott Walker and Roxy Music, Nuggets collections and the Everly Brothers. But in truth, Frog Eyes' recordings sound like nothing else but Frog Eyes.

    Under The Pale Moon

Wymond's previous EP, Earth Has Doors was about intangible and esoteric concepts; the music drifted beautifully in somewhat of an oceanic, boundless state. For the LP, it was very important for him to make the songs be felt somatically. Feeling very raw and alive, he wrote the basic structure for most of the record within a few weeks. Miles creates a big romantic pop record reminiscent of Roxy Music at the height of their power. Under the Pale Moon is a gorgeously dramatic and romantic debut.

    Write In

Happyness' debut, Weird Little Birthday, was filled with their spirited take on US college rock. It landed on numerous year-end best of lists and even won them the coveted NME award for Best Lyric of the Year for the song "Montreal Rock Band Somewhere." Staying rooted in their slacker approach that has endeared them to fans around the world, Happyness' sophomore effort Write In, seems to be a little more piano driven drawing inspiration from unlikely muses including Randy Newman, Roxy Music and Brute Force.

    My Ion Truss

In the distance the land kisses the sky. If you squint just right you can see Minus Story in flux there, somewhere between earthbound and ethereal, making sunspots on the horizon with their noisy and melodic headphone pop. They speak their own codified musical language as only childhood friends can share. Tirelessly artistic yet unpretentious, they are unafraid of abject noise, folk, soul, or straight-up pop rock. My Ion Truss is an epic and anthemic cross between Pearl Jam, Queen, Brian Eno, and Roxy Music.

Born And Thrown On A Hook

Drink Up Buttercup may hail from Philadelphia but the geography of their debut album Born & Thrown On A Hook is less easily located on a physical map. It's an occasionally surreal mythology filled with tales of hopelessly flawed characters, star-crossed lovers, drunks, fairy tales & bad trips. It exists in a world touched upon previously by Tom Waits, Hans Christian Anderson and Lloyd Kaufman while musically it follows the direct lineage of classic songwriting: Bowie, The Beatles & The Beach Boys' late 60s lysergia, early Roxy Music, Sabbath's bass heavy pulse & the crescendos of Arcade Fire.

    Beyond Wilderness

Beyond Wilderness is the debut full-length from Vancouver four-piece Gold & Youth, available May 14, 2013.

The album was produced and recorded by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, New Pornographers, Dan Mangan) and mixed by Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Interpol, Grizzly Bear).

Gold & Youth is Matthew Lyall, Murray Mckenzie, Jeff Mitchelmore and Louise Burns.

Beyond Wilderness is built with dark, expansive synthetic textures, punctuated by programmed drums and interwoven with melancholy vocals, detuned synth melodies and understated guitars.

The result is an album with varied sounds, ranging from the cold, industrial sounds of Depeche Mode to the tenderness of Avalon-era Roxy Music.

    Orphan

"Sharp, creative and bringing a commendable freshness to the sometimes drearily derivative world of contemporary rock, Empires are a remarkably good
rock 'n' roll band. In a world full of faceless, regurgitated rhythms and emotion-by-numbers, the band's music is strikingly compact, precise and non-excessive: There is a there there, and there are no wasted notes anywhere Their music is some of this year's very best"
    -Rolling Stone

Produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Cloud Nothings, The War on Drugs, Explosions in the Sky), Orphan is a collection of songs immersed in classic
post punk and indie rock 'n' roll circa 1989-1991, exploring the sonic adventurers and emotional heft of artists such as Roxy Music, Wire, and Nick Cave &
    The Bad Seeds.

The guitars are rich and atmospheric, the rhythms subtle and fluid yet more powerful at the same time. Throughout the album, singer SeanVan Vleet's
raw croon rises to match the band's musicality, conveying anxieties, secrets, and a heartfelt longing for transcendence.

    Import

Digitally Remastered & Expanded Four 180gm Vinyl LP Pressing In Hard Case

Warm Leatherette represents a watershed moment in the career of Grace Jones. The first of her much loved and critically-lauded 'Compass Point trilogy' it saw the star embrace contemporaneous new wave (The Normal's 'Warm Leatherette', The Pretenders' 'Private Life'), old soul (The Marvelettes' 'The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game' and leftfield rock (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 'Breakdown', Roxy Music's 'Love Is The Drug'). All sounded like nothing you'd ever heard before once Grace had finished with them. This set is a perfect demonstration of players, writers and production team at the very top of their game, headed up by a singular performer reaching the apex of her career to that point.
