    Rory Gallagher

    Remastered

The Irish blues-rock multi-instrumentalist Rory Gallagher recorded quite some solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Music On Vinyl already released the 'lost' album 'Notes From San Francisco' in September 2011. Now it's time for Gallagher's first two albums to get fully remastered and pressed on audiophile 180-grams vinyl.

Rory Gallagher released his eponymous solo debut album in 1971. This album marked the departure from Taste, the first band which Gallagher founded, and the start of his solo career. Gallagher wrote all the songs himself and recorded the album with two befriended Belfast musicians.

    Remastered Audio

Fresh Evidence is Rory Gallagher's eleventh and last studio album. The album was unusual in that Gallagher used more additional musicians and spent more time recording than he normally did. The songs on this album show his love for blues artists such as Robert Johnson and Son House and for
other genres as well (King Of Zydeco is a song about the legendary Clifton Chenier). The album explores themes of ill health, mortality, and ghting back against overwhelming odds. It shows the toll that Gallagher's health problems were starting to take on him.

One year after releasing Against The Grain, Gallagher hit back with Calling Card, a balanced record with his quality brand of driving blues rock, mixed with some folk and country influences. Produced by Deep Purple's Roger Glover, Calling Card showcases a very strong and diverse set of songs which wound up to become concert staples for Gallagher. Incendiary riffs, groovy organ hooks and intense vocals make Calling Card one of Gallagher's best efforts.

    Live In Europe

    Remastered

After only 2 studio albums, Rory Gallagher released Live! in Europe in 1972. Considered a landmark live album, the record - then containing 7 tracks - became Rory's 1st gold record. Heavily influenced by the likes of Woody Guthrie, Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly, Rory taught himself to play the mandolin, acoustic guitar, harmonica and also mastered the slide. After discovering the electric blues of Muddy Waters he started experimenting with different styles.

After Gallagher's band Taste broke up (he recorded 2 studio & 2 live albums with Taste) Rory toured under his own name and recorded 'Rory Gallagher' and 'Deuce' with his power trio, featuring bassist Gerry McAvoy (whom stayed in his band for 20 years) and drummer Wilgar Campbell.
    >p>
Rory Gallagher won his greatest acclaim with his marathon live shows and was voted 'Melody Maker's Top Musician of the Year' in 1972, trumping Eric Clapton. It's his live shows which captured the raw energy of his songs, Rory insisted, and therefore, he released a number of live albums. Live! In Europe contain the 'definitive versions' of some of his well known songs and is an instant classic, which seamlessly blends folk, acoustic blues & blues-rock.

    Stage Struck

    Includes Bonus Track "Bad Penny"

    Remastered Audio

Although this is the third live album of Rory Gallagher, Stage Struck proves that no live recording of Rory and his trio ever got boring and as they were simply never the same. This album captures him on a grinding world tour in 1979 and 1980, pumping out blues-rockers with requisite aggression in cities all around the world as San Francisco, Melbourne, Paris and Los Angeles. The material on this release is from his classic
albums Calling Card, Photo-Finish and Top Priority.

Backed by his erce as ever rhythm section of Gerry McAvoy on bass and Ted McKenna on drums there is no doubt that Rory & Co. we're ever trying to present a subtle set for music listeners. Opener "Shin Kicker" continued by Wayward Child set the mood for this high tempo album and as this release might sounds more rushed than the other two live albums, incendiary ris, groovy organ hooks and intense vocals gives you the feeling of being one of the front row fans at a concert of this guitar legend.

    Against The Grain

Re-Mastered from the Original ¼ inch Tape

Featuring the Original Restored Album Artwork with a Printed Inner Sleeve!

After releasing two albums in 1973 and a live, contract-fulfilling disc in 1974, Gallagher returned rested and recharged in 1975 with a new record label, Chrysalis, and a band with almost three years of hard touring under their belts. With its attention to detail, Against the Grain sounds more practiced and intricate than most of Gallagher's previous studio discs, but still includes some of his most powerful rockers. The supercharged Souped-Up Ford, where Rory howls and wails, with his voice and smoking slide, and All Around Man, an urgent blues rocker that begins with Gallagher screaming and crying together with just his electric guitar until the band kicks in with a stop-start blues rhythm, are two of the definitive moments. Bought and Sold adds congas to the mix to bring a more rootsy and even jazzy feel to Rory's table. But it's on the acoustic tracks where the guitarist and his band really lay into the groove. Gallagher's version of Leadbelly's Out On the Western Plain, with its combination of Indian chords, American Delta folk and cowboy yippee-ki-yay chorus is one of the Irishman's unheralded highlights, and Cross Me Off Your List is affecting in its yearning melody, subtle keyboard and minor key. A playful and forceful romp through Sam and Dave's I Take What I Want shows Gallagher's soul roots. Its well-rounded menu of country, Delta blues, and blues-rock is indicative of his approach; though few of these songs became classics in the guitarist's extensive catalog, they're far more mature and eclectic than most blues-rock bands' best work. --Allmusic.com

On Top Priority, Gallagher gives priority to harder edged songs that he's famous for delivering in bundles and of great quality. Again backed by just a drummer and bassist, the songs on Top Priority are incredibly energetic, turning down the tempo just a couple of times on Key Chain and Bad Penny. The other songs on Top Priority are driving burners, having the Irishman sliding up and down the frets with great vigor and conviction.

'Deuce' is Gallagher's second solo album and was originally released in 1971 as well. In contrast with his previous well-produced album, 'Deuce' was an effort by to capture the energy of a live performance.

In order to do so Gallagher would often record immediately before or after live performances while keeping production at a minimum.

Throughout his life Rory Gallagher was a great fan of the crime noir genre and much of his work was inspired by the characters and themes found in the cult detective novels of authors such as Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. Examples of Rory's best crime inspired material are central to the Kickback City album, providing the soundtrack to Ian Rankin's newly created novella 'The Lie Factory'. Rory's lyrics and song titles are cleverly woven in to the story.

The unique album Kickback City is completed by the stunning visuals created by illustrator Timothy Truman (DC Comics / First Comics). Also a life-long Rory Gallagher fan, the musician, writer and illustrator has been working in the graphic novel industry since the 80's and is internationally known for his art design for the Grateful Dead.

It never took Rory Gallagher a longer time to release a new album. Five years after Jinx, seemingly an eternity, Defender was released. Although it took so long, the quality of this Blues-Rock oering is equal to his stellar '70s albums like Top Priority and Photo-Finish. Album opener "Kickback City" could be a song from hairy rockers Bad Company with heavy pounding guitars, but also "Failsafe Day" as well as "Road To Hell" are by-the-book-crunch-rockers. The blazing ri in "Continental Op," and the swampy, less abrasive "Ain't No Saint" complete this amazing but unfortunately less 'hyped' albums. This is a must-have for real Rory Gallagher fans!

    King Bee

King Bee is the final release by Blues legend Muddy Waters (born in 1913 as McKinley Morganfield), originally released in 1981 and produced by Johnny Winter. Due to Waters' failing health, the LP was recorded in only three days in May of 1980. The LP includes newly recorded Muddy Waters classics, such as I'm A King Bee, Champagne & Reefer, Sad Sad Day and (My Eyes) Keep Me In Trouble. Around the time of the album's release, Waters hit the road with a new band as much as his slowly declining health allowed him to.

By the end of 1981, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have part of his lung removed. Still, in 1982 a new tour was booked but an increasing number of performances had to be canceled. And after having made a surprise appearance at an Eric Clapton concert in Miami that Summer, Waters found out the cancer had returned as he was coughing blood. Sadly, his body wasn't strong enough for another operation. On April 30, 1983 McKinley Morganfield died of a heart attack. Five years later he was posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Amongst his admirers are Buddy Guy, The Rolling Stones, Rory Gallagher, John Mayall and Steve Winwood.

    Live From Nowhere In Particular

Live from Nowhere in Particular is the 2008 album from Joe Bonamassa, an US blues guitarist/singer. Guitar One Magazine has stated that 'he just might be the best guitarist of his generation.' His blues-rock style is similar to that of Stevie Ray Vaughan's. In an interview in 'Guitarist' magazine (issue 265), Joe Bonamassa cited the three albums that had the biggest influence on his playing: John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (the 'Beano Album'), Rory Gallagher's 'Irish Tour' and 'Goodbye' by Cream.
