Presenting The Fabulous RonettesOriginally released in time for 1964's Christmas season, the Ronettes' one and only Philles LP is considered by many to be the crown jewel of the label's catalog, representing the ultimate expression of Phil Spector's girl-group ideal.
Fronted by the impossibly charismatic Veronica Bennett, aka Ronnie Spector, the Ronettes combined girlish innocence and playful sexiness in a manner that struck a responsive chord with listeners in the '60s, and continues to do so five decades later. With Phil's surging Wall of Sound arrangements meeting their match in the kittenish vocals of Ronnie and her sister Estelle Bennett and cousin Nedra Talley, it's not hard to understand why the Ronettes effortlessly held their own with the British Invasion acts that otherwise dominated the pop scene in 1964.
Although the Ronettes are principally known as a singles act, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes featuring Veronica is a remarkably consistent and cohesive set that collects all of the trio's early hits, including such enduring pop masterpieces as Be My Baby, Baby (I Love You), Walking In The Rain, Do I Love You?, (The Best Part Of) Breaking Up, You Baby and the Ronettes' original version of Chapel of Love (which predates the Dixie Cups' hit version). It's hard to imagine a more consistent collection of perfect pop bliss, or a more excellent expression of girl group greatness!1. Walking In The Rain

Love Is A Drum B/W Magical GirlTeen rocker Jack Skuller is equally passionate about the melodies of the Beatles and the energy of the Ramones. A song Jack wrote, the irresistibly catchy Love Is A Drum propelled him to first place at the 101.5 FM talent show. The timeless rockabilly anthem was produced by Daniel Rey (Ramones, Ronnie Spector) and features Nada Surf's Ira Elliot on drums. Insistent and forceful, rock and roll begins again with rock's new young heart.

Mythomania (On Sale)Cryptacize deals in the unforgettable melody, the forsaken chord and the extravagant sentiment. The surefooted and richly nuanced vocal arabesques of Nedelle Torrisi, like a modern day Freddie Mercury or Ronnie Spector, strangely complement the guitar of Chris Cohen, which sounds like a maniacally sped-up a la Les Paul or staccato and funny like Roy Smeck or Adolph Jacobs of the Coasters. Syncopated drum corps rudiments and pit-orchestra rave-ups from Michael Carreira propel the songs with a refreshingly buoyant touch that never lapses into rock music clich?s. There are also widescreen cinematic moments that take on a mournful and otherworldly pathos, like Experiment in Terror by Henry Mancini, but with vocals by Cambodian 60's pop legend Ros Serey Sothea or like Arabic diva Fairouz singing along to a psychedelic film score by Popol Vuh.1. Pretty In BlackFirst 1.000 copies are pressed on pink / black marbled vinyl!
The second full-length album of Danish Fifties/Psych Pop duo The Raveonettes was released in 2005. On Pretty In Black, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo abandoned the strict recording rules the band laid upon themselves on their preceding efforts (including limiting the amount of different chords in one song, keeping an entire album in one tuning - which was in fact B Flat Major for The Chain Gang Of Love) and keeping song running times under three minutes. Instead, the group further expand on their signature sound of Fifties inspired Rockabilly Noise Pop with the eerie feel of a thriller movie soundtrack.
Special appearances on this album are made by Maureen Tucker of Velvet Underground on drums, Martin Rev on drum machine and Ronnie Spector, also known as Veronica Bennett of the fabulous Ronettes on backup vocals.1. The Heavens

Volume OneShe & Him is a story of musical serendipity: two artists, each renowned in their own creative fields, meet and recognize a certain shared nostalgia. The result is destined to be one of the musical highlights of the year.
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward first met to record a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's When I Get To The Border for a movie soundtrack. Immediately struck by one another's talents and finding an instant rapport Zooey let slip that she wrote her own songs which she recorded alone at home on her computer. Somewhat shy about anyone hearing these musical morsels she eventually sent the demos to Ward who was instantly impressed. They soon reconvened at his Portland studio to begin work.
Embracing the warm sound of early analog recordings, Volume One is more than just a showcase for Zooey's rich and endearing voice; it's a distinctive and endlessly charming album. The songs themselves give a respectful nod to the likes of Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt and The Zombies while Ward's production gives them just the right amount of golden era sheen. Whether Zooey's channeling Ronnie Spector as on I Was Made For You or joining Ward in turning The Beatles I Should Have Known Better into a seductive hula guitar duet, the results are always captivating.

Too Young To Be In LoveToo Young To Be In Love is the first fully-realized Hunx and His Punx album, and the groups first for Hardly Art. It was recorded in New York City by Ivan Julian, one of the founding members of inimitable NYC punk legends Richard Hell and the Voidoids. This record was made in the same studio that one of Hunx's idols, Ronnie Spector, once recorded in. While it is preceded by the Gay Singles LP (True Panther Sounds/Matador Records, 2009), a collection of hard-to-find and out-of-print 7 singles, Too Young To Be In Love is the first proper studio record from Hunx and His Punx.
Too Young To Be In Love also marks the first time the group has ever been comprised entirely by punkettes, another name for the all girl band that band leader Seth Bogart (aka Hunx) always dreamed of. Shannon Shaw (of Shannon and the Clams) plays bass, and wrote three of the albums songs. Her powerful voice on Lovers Lane and The Curse of Being Young crackles and breaks with a raw ferocity that perfectly compliments Hunxs swoon-worthy nasal croon. This album also represents a distinct reversal of roles, the all-girl quartet (Shaw, plus guitarist Michelle Santamaria, drummer Erin Emslie, and Amy Blaustein on guitar/organ) bring the fire, while Hunx brings the sugar. All of the ladies sing on this album, and their voices combine to create some modern Wall of Sound magic.
Hunx and His Punx might be the first ever girl group fronted by a flamboyant gay male whose dream in life is to sound like a girl. They have created a unique new sound they refer to as Young Oldies, a mixture of '50s teenage rock n roll, '60s girl groups and bubblegum pop.
I only write songs out of heartbreak, says Hunx of the new record. Older songs focused on trashier homoerotic topics like cruising and boyfriend stealing. But Too Young To Be In Love is all about love and heartbreak. People tend to have scandalous ideas about Seth Hunx Bogart. This can happen when you try to French kiss the entire front row at one of your shows, pose for photographs nude or bare everything in the video for Lust For Life by the band Girls. But behind all of this is a sweet and somewhat innocent entertainer who knows how to put on a show.1. Lovers Lane

With roots in classic Soul, British Invasion and Rockabilly, Detroit native Marshall Crenshaw has forged a very original and melodic form of crafting songs over the past 35 plus years in the music business. In the early days, Marshall was compared to Buddy Holly often, due in part to his portrayal of the doomed rock icon in the 1987 film, La Bamba."Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, He soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself "-Quote from The Trouser Press.
In addition to his original songs, that have been covered over the years by notable artists such as Ronnie Spector, Robert Gordon, the Gin Blossoms, America, Freedy Johnston, Bette Midler, Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs to name a few, Marshall is an accomplished guitarist with a very jazz-oriented style of playing. Marshall launched his original trio in New York with his brother Robert on drums and Chris Donato on bass, recording "Something's Gonna Happen" for Alan Betrock's Shake Records in 1981.Soon afterwards, the trio was signed to Warner Bros. Records and his debut album, simply titled "Marshall Crenshaw," was released in 1982 and included his biggest hit, "Someday Someway." Robert Gordon took the song to #76 in 1981 and Crenshaw's own version made #36 in 82. It would be Marshall's only solo Billboard Top 40 Pop hit. On the Cash Box magazine chart the song went to #31 and reached #25 on Billboard's Rock Tracks. The song, 'Til I Hear It From You," sung by the Gin Blossoms and co-written by Marshall , reached #11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1996.
Despite his 4 subsequent WB studio albums not including hits, Marshall continued to record in the 1990s and 2000s. "Better Back Off" from the MCA album, "Life's Too Short," reached #17 on Billboard's Alternative Songs Chart. In the 2000s Marshall played guitar as a guest of the reunited MC5, growing up a fan of the band in Detroit. He penned the title track from the 2007 film, "Walk Hard" starring John C Reilly, with the song being nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in a movie. In 2011 he began hosting a radio show called The Bottomless Pit on WFUV in New York, featuring his vast collection of music.
Although Marshall has released many live albums throughout his career, this newly discovered unreleased performance found in Warner Music's vault was recorded while he was touring in support of his debut release in 1982 and includes several songs seeing their first release on any format. Co-produced by Marshall, who supplied rare photographs and liner notes and mixed by Chris Stamey, this lovingly packaged live document provides a unique snapshot back to Marshall's formative years as an artist and would fill a hole in his recorded live legacy.1. Leon RussellPressed On 180-Gram Translucent Blue Vinyl
Leon Russell was born in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1941. He studied classical piano as a boy and took up trumpet in his teens. Not too many years later, he was on the road as a sideman to Jerry Lee Lewis and Ronnie Hawkins and ended-up on the west coast.
Leon remained in Los Angeles and quickly became one of the city's more prominent studio musicians also often working as an arranger, conductor and producer. Russell was one of Phil Spector's, "Wall of Sound" session people, he also played on The Byrds', "Mr. Tambourine Man," and arranged and co-wrote most of the big hits of pop star, Gary Lewis including She's Just My Style" and "Everybody Loves a Clown."
Leon Russell gained a higher public profile when the 1969 Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett album, "Accept No Substitute" became a major hit. Leon had arranged the album and played piano and guitar in his now distinctive style that became such a part of the sound of the group called Delaney & Bonnie and Friends.
Russell really skyrocketed when he got involved with Joe Cocker who was already a star. Cocker's producer, Denny Cordell hired Leon to arrange and co-produce the new Cocker album which included more hits for Joe including Leon's song, "Delta Lady." When Cocker set out to tour the US he logically recruited Leon to serve as bandleader and arranger for the now legendary 1970 "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour. That renowned cross-country tour has been preserved as a feature film and live album.
Following the critical success of the tour, Russell's reputation was strong enough that he and Cordell formed their own record company - Shelter - and launched the label with this very Leon Russell, "Leon Russell" album. The album features the first ever recording of "A Song For You" which has become one of Russell's best-known songs with versions released over the years by more than 40 different artists including the Carpenters, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee, Willie Nelson, Helen Reddy, Whitney Houston, Elkie Brooks, Amy Winehouse, Donny Hathaway and Christina Aguilera.
The rest, as they say, is history for Russell was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2011 followed a few months later with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.1. A Song For You
