Rock And Roll High School'
Jerry Lee Lewis / Jerry Lee's GreatestJerry Lee Lewis has been described as rock & roll's first great wild man. A pioneer of rock and roll and rockabilly music, Lewis made his first recordings in 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis. Crazy Arms sold 300,000 copies in the South, but it was his 1957 hit Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On that shot Lewis to fame worldwide. He followed this with Great Balls of Fire, Breathless and High School Confidential. Lewis has a dozen gold records in both rock and country. He won several Grammy awards, including Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lewis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and his pioneering contribution to the genre has been recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the inaugural class inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Reissued here are two of his original albums on one LP: Jerry Lee Lewis, originally released in 1958, and Jerry Lee's Greatest from 1961.

High On YouSly Stone is a songwriter and record producer, mostly famous for his role as frontman for Sly and the Family Stone. The band played a critical role in the development of soul, funk, rock, and psychedelics in the 1960s and '70s.
Sly Stone was identified as a musical prodigy at a young age. By the time he was seven, Sylvester had already become proficient on the keyboards and by the age of eleven he had mastered the guitar, bass, and drums as well. While still in high school, Sylvester had settled primarily on the guitar and joined a number of high school bands.
The most talented musician I know is Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins told Mojo magazine (March 2002 issue). He's more talented than anybody I ever have seen - he's amazing. I worked with him in Detroit from 1981 to '83, and to see him just fooling around, playing, jamming, is a whole other trip. He's the most amazing musician.
In 1993 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the group.
High On You (1975) is the first solo album by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone. For the most part, Stone performed a large part of the instrumentation for each song on his own by using multi-tracking. The album prominently features vocalist Rudy Love and includes the singles I Get High on You, Le Lo Li and Crossword Puzzle.1. I Get High On You

Black Pistol Fire is a Canadian Rock and Roll duo that splits time between Toronto, Ontario and Austin, Texas. Their wild and energetic rock-and-roll sound has been described as a mix of classic southern rock and garage punk, garnering comparisons to early Kings of Leon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The White Stripes, and Clutch. The band features Kevin McKeown on Guitar/Lead Vocals and Eric Owen on Drums. The two have been friends since kindergarten and began playing music together when they discovered a shared passion for rock and roll music in high school.
While playing a local Austin hotspot, Producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) approached the band about recording their 2011 record. They have supported the likes of Weezer, BRMC, Band of Skulls, State Radio, Shonen Knife, and Lucinda Williams. The band recorded their 2nd LP in the early 2012 with producer Michael Rocha in Toronto. This album, Big Beat 59, was released in August 2012, with songs with the album being put into rotation on major taste-making radio stations KEXP, KCRW, KUTX, and KDHX.
The band gained further momentum during SXSW 2013 where The Huffington Post called the band 'the next big thing' and 'the most energetic and musically versatile of all the bands playing the festival'.

Storytone (Deluxe)Neil Young's significantly higher fidelity follow-up to A Letter Home is called Storytone, and is released via Reprise.
Really, it's two albums: There's a solo version and a standard version, which was recorded with a 92-piece orchestra and choir. The vinyl contains both solo and standard versions, pressed at QRP.
The album was produced by Young and Niko Bolas under their Volume Dealers moniker. The orchestra was arranged and conducted by Michael Bearden and Chris Walden.
One of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity. Before starting his multi-platinum solo career, he was a founding member of the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield and worked with the groups Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Canadian singer-songwriter was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 for his work as a solo artist and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982. Young's philanthropic work is as renowned as his musical legacy. His famous Bridge School Benefit Concert has become a yearly tradition since 1986 and continues to boast an incredible line-up of high-profile artists. Each year, Young donates all of the proceeds to the Bay Area's Bridge School, which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Cheap TrickCheap Trick's eponymous debut is an explosive fusion of Beatlesque melodic hooks, Who-styled power, and a twisted sense of humor partially borrowed from the Move. But that only begins to scratch the surface of what makes Cheap Trick a dynamic record. Guitarist Rick Nielsen has a powerful sense of dynamics and arrangements, which gives the music an extra kick, but he also can write exceptionally melodic and subversive songs. Nothing on Cheap Trick is quite what it seems. While the songs have hooks and attitude that arena rock was sorely lacking in the late '70s, they are also informed by a bizarre sensibility, whether it's the driving He's a Whore, the dreamy Mandocello, or the thumping Gary Glitter perversion ELO Kiddies. The Ballad of TV Violence is about mass murder, while Daddy Should Have Stayed in High School concerns pedophiles. All of it is told with a sense of humor, but it doesn't come off as cheap or smirking because of the group's hard-rocking drive and Robin Zander's pop-idol vocals. Even Oh, Candy, apparently a love song on first listen, is an affecting tribute to a friend who committed suicide. In short, Cheap Trick revel in taboo subjects with abandon, devoting themselves to the power of the hook, as well as sheer volume and gut-wrenching rock & roll -- though the record is more musically accomplished than punk rock, it shares the same aesthetic. The combination of off-kilter humor, bizarre subjects, and blissful power pop made Cheap Trick one of the defining albums of its era, as well as one of the most influential.1. Hot Love

Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-NerdRanked 401/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Perhaps people needed help pronouncing Lynyrd Skynyrd's name when the Florida band's debut album came out in 1973, but soon no one would need help recognizing - or requesting - the album's classic rock anthem Free Bird. With the exception of this nine-minute epic, Pronounced is actually quite lean and mean. Full of instantly recognizable Skynyrd standards like I Ain't the One, Gimme Three Steps, Poison Whiskey, Simple Man, and the ultimate rock ballad Tuesday's Gone, there isn't a single weak spot on it. By blending hard rock, blues, country, and the heart of the South with the distinctly sentimental voice and intelligent lyrics of Ronnie Van Zant, Lynyrd Skynyrd didn't just create an anthem with this album, they defined a genre. They also won themselves an opening slot on the Who's US Quadrophenia tour. Fun Fact: Leonard Skinnerd was a physical-education teacher at the band members' high school that busted their chops for having long hair.1. I Ain't the One

Undivided Heart & Soul (Pre-Order)Undivided Heart & Soul, produced by Dan Molad (Lucius) and
McPherson, and developed largely in the studio (that studio being the historic
RCA Studio B in Nashville), carries a sense of immediacy and irreverence.
"In writing this record, I threw several handfuls of caution to the wind.
Lyrically, I was allowing myself to be exposed in a way I never have before.
Concurrently, maybe as some sort of a self-defense mechanism, the guitars
got fuzzier and louder. The first day at RCA was like being in church...
by the second day, it was a high school band's rehearsal space."
Putting the hands of Dan Molad on the wheel of the record ensured that
the music didn't take too many expected turns. "Having toured with
Lucius and befriended Dan, I knew he was the guy to push my buttons
and challenge me to try new things. He's a tireless worker. He's constantly
tinkering away on something... and music just falls out of him."
The vintage recording equipment and instruments still housed
in RCA Studio B greatly informed the direction of the record. "Each night,
at the end of tracking, someone would invariably say, 'You wanna put vibes
on this?', speaking of the old RCA Vibraphone. I mean, you can hear THAT
vibraphone on Roy Orbison's 'Crying'... we couldn't keep our hands off of it.
It guided some of the songs into some strange and wonderful places.
'Lucky Penny' took such a cool turn once Ray (Jacildo, keys) added some to it.
We wrote several songs on the piano that Floyd Cramer played 'Last
Date' on. We were soaking up so much of the phantom energy in
that room, it led to some incredible sonic territory."
"Most folks know us for our take on vintage R&B and early Rock N' Roll.
The past year, I've been digging so much into the heavier, brasher sounds of
early Rock N' Roll... from bands like The Sonics, Link Wray, and into some
early British Rock such as The Creation... these influences feature heavily in
these songs. The tunes that showed up weren't exactly always in familiar
territory, and... we greeted them as welcome strangers. They have a lot
of heart... and that's what Rock N' Roll should always have."1. Desperate Love

SFV Acid #2Zane Reynolds (SFV Acid) hails from Reseda, CA, straight up through the dense smog and the rolling hills from the city of Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley. Zane has been making music alone, DJing, performing and experimenting since 2007. His music is much like the city he comes from, grid locked but open, raw, real and depending on which direction you are looking, a different visceral experience. Since his first vinyl release to the world, New West Coast via PPM in March of 2011, his creative MPC, 303, 808 skills have been shown and grown to everyone that listens up (and you will wish you had). Making waves with his approach and attitude, unmatched, minimal, abstract acid-house and always truly exceptional songs, it's time to know where SFV Acid comes from.
SFV Acid's #2 sneaks in your head from the archives, deep, sought after and rare. While attending his last year of high school at Highland Hall High (Northridge, CA), Zane self released a handful of hand painted and hand drawn cassettes to his friends, he also left copies in random places throughout the San Fernando Valley including: Goodwill, Pierce Community College, In and Out Burger and Starbucks (what lucky fools). #2 was dug up and pressed onto virgin vinyl by PPM for all of our listening pleasure. This record stands tall amongst his releases thus far, a gem, a gritty ass shaking dirty drive into the So Cal sunset. " Twin Peaks have perfected the kind of songwriting that puts you in a practiced, happy headlock."
"The Chicago teenagers who make up the band Twin Peaks make a confident old-school indie rock chug that should be beyond their years."
"Although steeped in the amp-shattering sensibilities of a garage band, the triumphant Sunken listens like a sunny pop record. It's lovably fuzzy, worn with the character of beloved jukebox hits."
- Consequence of Sound
Don't bother asking Twin Peaks about the deeper meaning of their band name. They simply thought it sounded cool, which explains why their second album Wild Onion isn't as spooky or surreal as David Lynch's short-lived TV show. It's more like a modern day Nuggets, with Ty Segall, Black Lips and Thee Oh Sees curating instead of Lenny Kaye. Not literally, of course. But the spirit of those garage demigods is alive and well alongside subtle nods to everything from the Pixies and Tame Impala to the godfathers of guitar-guided pop music, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.
If combining the influence of so many classic artists seems like a lofty goal for a group of 20 year olds, just remember that Twin Peaks' core quartet-frontman Cadien Lake James, guitarist Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan and drummer Connor Brodner-has roots that reach back to elementary school. After cutting his teeth during his high school freshman year in a duo with his older brother Hal, James reconnected with his old chums and formed what would become Twin Peaks, and the chemistry was immediately undeniable.
Having quickly cut their debut LP, 2013's Sunken, in Cadien's basement so they could sell it on tour, the band was excited to spend more time developing Wild Onion, a record that reveals a level of maturity beyond all the amp-singeing solos, ragtag rhythms and dizzying voices of three distinct singer-songwriters. Unlike acts who let their egos get in the way, Cadien, Clay and Jack share the spotlight and play to one another's strengths as Connor keeps things moving with a steady beat.1. I Found a New Way

REDI-PRB-4117xThe Jim Jones Revue
The Savage HeartThe Jim Jones Revue may be born of British blood, but, musically speaking, they're plenty American at heart. The band's rollicking amalgam of '50s-inspired rock 'n' roll and menacing garage rock feels more indebted to Memphis or the Motor City than the band's native London.
Evidence of such is spread thickly across The Savage Heart, Jones and friends' third offering for Punk Rock Blues Records. At nine tracks and just under 40 minutes, the band cranks out a sweat-stained slate of ugly, rootsy American rock charged full of greaser gusto. Following in the hefty footprints of its strong 2010 record, Burning Down Your House, The Savage Heart once again draws from an American foundation, from the rip-up piano work of Jerry Lee Lewis and George Thorogood's boogie blues swagger to the wild aggression of proto punk upstarts like the MC5.
But while that's a lot of sonic history to pack into a limited slate of tracks, it's the way the band picks through its hefty musical lineage and mines its best attributes that helps the record live up to its name. "It's Gotta Be About Me" cruises with retro flair and biker cool, while the bouncy piano lines give "Where'd Da Money Go?" a groovy kick in the ass. But the real show comes courtesy of Jones, who lets his madcap frontman instincts and hoarse voice run wild on tracks like the love-scorn "Catastrophe". The record comes to a comparatively tame close on "Midnight Oceans & The Savage Heart", but even that tune's seemingly innocent throwback to a long-departed era of drive-in movies and high school sock hops is coated in a thick layer of kitschy nostalgia.
Is the Jim Jones Revue a playful detour through rock history? Or maybe a bourbon-soaked bar band from hell? The Savage Heart is a little bit of both, thanks to a band with the smarts, chops, and passion to make something fresh out of the expansive musical fodder that helped lay its rowdy foundation.

HeliosThe fourth album Helios from critically acclaimed Denver-based foursome The Fray is released on Epic Records. Of the new music, produced by Stuart Price (The Killers, Madonna, Keane) and Ryan Tedder (Adele, One Republic), Isaac Slade (piano, vocals) notes, Working with Stuart was the best of both worlds. We brought our organic instruments, and he brought his arsenal of electronic antiques. This record is all about running to the front lines of what we've done and pushing our borders even farther. Electronic instruments, drum samples, enormous backing vocals, opening up our writing to folks outside our camp.
'Helios' follows the band's 2012 release 'Scars & Stories' which garnered widespread praise-USA Today called the music more muscular and buoyant, while Rolling Stone noted they're still pumping. The Fray's 2005 debut, featuring the hit single How to Save a Life, went double-platinum and the band earned a 2010 Grammy nomination for their self-titled release. They have made numerous television appearances including Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and many more.
The Fray is Slade, Joe King (guitar, vocals), Dave Welsh (guitar), and Ben Wysocki (drums). The Denver-based foursome formed in 2002 after high school friends Slade and King bumped into each other at a local guitar shop. The band achieved national success with their first single, Over My Head (Cable Car), which became a top ten hit in the U.S., and the release of their second single, How to Save a Life, brought them worldwide fame.1.Hold My Hand

ADAD-AUT-0510xYoko And The Oh No's
Yoko and the Oh No'sYoko & the Oh No's are three kids from Chicago - Max Goldstein on vocals, Max Loebman on guitar, and Stef Roti on drums - a raging trio fueled by Taco Bell, rock & roll myths, and pilfered booze. It doesn't quite add up how kids this young (Max L. just graduated high school) managed to tap into a vibe this classic. The band's self-titled full-length debut, out July 31 on Autumn Tone, is crammed with classic rock riffs, swinging beats, and up front, the sassy, done-up style of Max G. emoting loosely and widly like a young David Johansen fronting the New York Dolls, possessing a crooner's voice and a taste for style. Dolled up in flashy get-ups, Max G.'s voice is a growly, beefy thing, a rangy tenor that belies his taste for soul shouters. The prevailing mood in modern indie garage rock is one of stylistic indifference, but that's not how Yoko & the Oh No's come across; these kiddos don't just care, they care a lot. Listen to the crashing classic rock chorus of "Heart Attack," the sneering "She Knows It," and the distorted R&B groove of "Nobody Wants to Know." "Talking over radio/on the moonlit drive/We listen to VU/Jane says close your eyes." Yoko & the Oh No's S/T album is their first for Autumn Tone Records, which has a knack for finding raw young bucks (turn up records by the Orwells, Twin Peaks, and Modern Vices as a testament). Yoko & the Oh No's are currently on tour with likeminded rock & roll weirdos The Growlers, blowing minds and connecting with crowds across the Midwest.$19.99Vinyl LP - Sealed Buy Now
At Best CuckoldEmbarking upon a sophomore effort can be a daunting task for any young upstart, and there's no denying Avi Buffalo's own bar was set quite high with 2010's celebrated eponymous debut. Fear not, there's nothing in this tale about The Second Album-a.k.a. At Best Cuckold, due September 8th in Europe and September 9th in North America on Sub
Pop-that even remotely resembles a slump; in fact, it would be entirely appropriate to say that this Long Beach, California, enterprise is getting better with age.
Ah, yes, age-much was made of it when Avi Buffalo's first album hit, and for good reason: While their Millikan High School classmates were preoccupied with quaint and youthful pursuits, the musicians behind Avi Buffalo were busy making an off-kilter pop gem that eventually bowled over NME, The AV Club, Pitchfork, the BBC, and numerous other outlets on both sides of the Atlantic.
The creation of At Best Cuckold turned out to be a three-year journey; a stretch of time that resembles its predecessor. While transitioning from teenager to twentysomething and traversing the interpersonal wilds which accompany that age, Avi kept playing music, collaborated with and produced several friends (including Kevin Litrow's N.O.W. project and
Douglas James Sweeney's Arjuna Genome), and even started DJing. He also wrote new songs, and by the time 2013 rolled around, it was time to begin capturing his latest sparks-with that, the band headed into the studio on New Year's Day.
At Best Cuckold was recorded at Tiny Telephone, the analog-friendly San Francisco studio run by John Vanderslice (whose Bowie tribute Avi contributed to), and engineered by Jay Pellicci (The Dodos, Deerhoof, Sleater-Kinney). Avi then built on the "clean and tight" recordings from Tiny Telephone with analog and digital overdubs, and completed the
record with Nicolas Vernhes at Rare Book Room studio in Brooklyn. The result is a quirky yet comforting set of songs driven by refined pop songcraft and sneaky moments of grandeur that stick in the brain. Classic-sounding melodies are delivered with a modern sensibility, creating an album that's equal parts timely and timeless. Well-placed piano, sax, clarinet, French horn, and cornet further enhance the proceedings with a glorious orch-pop sheen.
At the ripe old age of 23, Avi Buffalo is ready to take on the world (again), armed with all of the experience he's compiled over the past few years. And he's made sure the second time around will be just as memorable as the first.1. So What

Nude Beach IIGrowing up in the bucolic waterfront village of Northport, NY, Chuck Betz, Ryan Naideau and Jimmy Shelton played punk rock together since high school, in a succession of bands more than happy to set up at any house party, BBQ or makeshift venue that would have them. The familiar strain of classic rock is the go-to sound on the North Shore of Long Island, but they lived in an alternate universe where Ryan convinced his parents to let him turn the family basement into an occasional all-ages show space, hosting touring groups, and rounding out the bill with whatever band he and his friends were in at the time.
Fast forward to 2008, the boys had based themselves in Brooklyn and Nude Beach was born; the group slowly integrated themselves into the local DIY community, performing in dive bars and warehouse lofts, often several times a week, playing more than 100 shows in less than four years together. They self-released cassettes and vinyl LPs, they booked their own tours, and played in infinite side-projects and spin-off bands at every punk venue in North Brooklyn and beyond.
But while Nude Beach is very much a part of the Brooklyn DIY scene, it's always been more in spirit than in sound; sure, they're as beer-soaked, overdriven and raw as any group around, yet as hard as they've tried to ignore it, the trio could never quite shake the rock & roll of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen which sound-tracked their Long Island youth, and battered vinyl from the Byrds, the Replacements and the Jam sits side by side in their record collections with the hardcore and indie LPs and 7"s that brought the friends together in the first place.
In an increasingly fractured music scene, Chuck, Ryan and Jimmy play against fashion and deliver straight up rock & roll, and moreover, they do it better than anyone has in a long time. They've got the songs, they've got the sound, and they've got the fuck-all attitude that just can't be faked. Nude Beach will rock you if you let them. Turns out it's still more fun than just about anything else going on. Just check out their most recent full-length, II, if you don't believe us!1. Radio

UNIM-BMX-9984xThe Band Perry
The Band PerryDaddy rocked us to sleep with the Rolling Stones; Mama woke us up with Loretta Lynn. So we get it honest. - Kimberly Perry
Inheriting a cross-pollinated love of country and rock & roll from their parents, The Band Perry - siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry - say that they bleed the bright red blood of American music. The three have always felt the drive to perform and create music, sweating out the summers in Mobile, Alabama playing in any dusty roadhouse or church that would have them. Kimberly strapped on her first Gibson - and fronted her first high school band - at age 15, employing Reid, then 10, and Neil, only 8, as her roadies. Changing guitar strings and polishing cymbals for their big sister lost its charm after awhile, so the brothers formed their own band, opening for Kimberly's band.
My bass and I've been attached at the hip since I was 10 years old, says Reid. While most of my friends were playing little league, I was sitting in my room learning Rolling Stones' and Beatles' bass lines. It's really all I've ever known. Even as the three worked in different bands, the siblings would spend nights at home playing together: I remember sitting out on our front porch singing old Hank Williams and Bobbie Gentry songs in three-part harmony, hoping to channel the spirits of old country through musical sÉance while fighting off the southern Alabama mosquitoes, says Kimberly. We always knew we'd take the stage together - all we were waiting on was the right moment. That moment came in July of 2005, when - after years of writing together - the siblings decided to join forces as one band. The Band Perry was then invited by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company to open all of the dates on their New Faces Of Country Tour that year.
In the summer of 2008, after spending a few years on the road honing their sound, TBP met longtime Garth Brooks manager Bob Doyle. Partnering with Bob and Josh Pegram, The Band Perry spent the fall and winter of 2008 writing in Nashville and collecting songs for their first country recording session.
The three of us bring different strengths into the writing room, Neil points out. Kimberly carries in a bag of melodies and lyrics, Reid always has some really great musical ideas in his back pocket, and I bring in a sense of humor and some thread that ties it all together.
The new recordings caught the ears of Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen, the CEO and President of Republic Nashville, signing to the new label in the summer of 2009.
When talking about The Band Perry, each member of the trio stresses how much family figures into the mix: Reid, Neil and I share genes and a musical pedigree, Kimberly explains. We read the same classics and cook from the same recipes. With all of our likenesses though, I believe it's our distinctions that stir up the magic when we create. When the three of us sit down to write songs together, we pull from all of our individual perspectives and happenstances to create the most interesting song concoctions.
There's a tightness between the three of us that goes way beyond even best friends, Neil adds. Family vocal harmonies can't be fabricated. And, besides - the three of us know that through the thick and thin of life and the music business, we're watching after each other.
Blood runs thick. The music business can be hard, but the three of us are committed not only to our lives in music, but to living them together, Reid says. I think the security of knowing that about each other allows us to be uninhibited when we create. It's a democracy. It's a safe haven.
We've walked a long way to find your ears, Kimberly Perry finishes with a grin. So play us long and play us loud. The Band Perry is here, and we just have so darn much to say.1. You Lie

Back To The FrontExplaining the relevance and influence of ENTOMBED is probably as superfluous as pointing out why Slayer rule, Lemmy is bigger than God and Dio the greatest loss in metal history. A legend is a legend. Fullstop. F**k off!
If you still require a proper explanation that is less shot from the hip, well let us start with this: The Swedish Death Metal forefathers and genre innovators have inspired tons of bands all around the globe with their invincible trademark sound. However, as the band's last album "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" dates back to 2007, there is definitely more than a good reason for a bit of catch-up and ask why it took so long to finish the band's superb 10th opus, programmatically titled "Back To the Front", vocalist extraordinaire L-G Petrov states:
""Serpents " was a fairly good album but a little weak compared to previous works and the distribution wasn't that great yet we continued playing shows throughout the past years but never really got going with new songs. At some point we decided that it was time for a new album, so we sat down and played riffs that we had from before as well as many new riffs and started putting them together which really sparked our motivation. That really gave us a push! We feel that this is the best album so far in many years and I think you can hear it on the album!"
Thematically, the will and determination to back up such words with fantastic songs is reflected in the powerful album title and part of the concept of the record as guitarist Nico Elgstrand describes:
"A lot of the album is about being at war in different ways and struggles/shortcomings of mankind, so we felt that "Back To The Front" fitted really well. It has a military reference obviously and we also feel like a platoon (ha ha, a small platoon) that has been behind the frontlines for a long time anxious to get back into battle. Not mean and lean but rather fat and bored and really keen on getting back to what we do best, which of course is to kill! Metaphorically speaking needless to say, ha ha. Also it is a very direct way of saying we've been away for way too long, we know and that we will now aim to stay at the front until the friggin' battle is won! The cavalry has finally arrived if you will (without horses though, ha ha)!"
Well spoken, Sir, yet expectations will be incredibly high on this one as ENTOMBED's roots and legacy goes way back into the year 1987 when they formed under the name NIHILIST. In 1989 the formation changed its name to ENTOMBED and together with Morbid (for whom singer LG played drums), Treblinka/Tiamat, Grave and Dismember, ENTOMBED/NIHILIST established themselves among the earliest bands to forge the immortal Swedish death metal sound that became really popular and unique due to its punkish roots and especially that chainsaw guitar sound, today inseparably linked to terms like "Skogsberg", "Sunlight Studio" or just "Stockholm sound". Inspired by such diverse acts as Autopsy, Motörhead, Discharge or Kiss, over the years ENTOMBED did not shy away from thinking outside of the coffin resulting in a style some fans called Death'n'Roll but in the end it was, is and will be just a band with a style and impact entirely their own.
So, what awaits the listener on "Back To The Front"? Produced by Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Hardcore Superstar) at Studio Bohus (Abba, Europe) in KunÄlv, it's 666% true to the ENTOMBED everybody loves. While not falling for total regression back to the early classics "Left Hand Path" or "Clandestine", it is a total bone-crushing opus that will have fans of all periods cry tears of joy and even the most stubborn fan of the early days join in shame. "The goal was to have riffs that felt fresh and exciting, to make an album that felt old school as well as fresh and up to date, showing who ENTOMBED are today," L-G puts it quite simply and Nico continues: "I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I find it super hard to pick 2 or 3 songs as the best of it, because i really like 'em all. I think that they all have something new and fresh yet it feels very old school in some way. "Kill To Live" with its surprising ENTOMBED-intro turned out very cool and the track also has an almost cinematic yet classic metal feel to it, dunno why, but it just invigorates me. "Second To None" kinda makes me wanna drive a tank while listening, and that to me is how proper metal should sound! It makes you wanna do mighty things so to speak!"
From the morbid, pissed-off lyrics over detuned, massive riffs to the inimitable brick-heavy groove and LG Petrov's titanic roar, "Back To The Front" not only musically but also visually with its stunning painting by Necropolitus Cracoviensis Zbgniew Bielak II (Watain, Ghost, Vader) seems to send a respectful nod to the old school as L-G confirms: "The skull will always be a part of ENTOMBED. I totally agree, we have taken away some of the rock parts and gone with more metal, and I think fans new and old will appreciate that."
With European touring under way in December with label mates and black metal genre leaders WATAIN - vocalist Erik actually penned lyrics for the song "Carnage" (from "When In Sodom" EP, 2006) - and former band member Nicke Andersson contributed parts to the new song "Vulture And The Traitor", the Swedish metal platoon ENTOMBED anno 2013 has all its weapons polished and reloaded and is ready to shatter the entire music scene with an uncompromising full frontal assault. So, let us all enjoy "Back To The Front" and celebrate the fact that the legend called ENTOMBED has finally returned. Goddamn!1. Kill To Live

Bigfoot (Awaiting Repress)Cayucas: Pronounced "ky-yook-us", is the monikered homage to a sleepy little seaside town in San Luis Obispo County,California. That town, Cayucos, has hardly changed in the last 50 years, a far cry from the gentrified tourist traps parading showily down the nearby coastline. In the early 1960s,the surfing craze hit. There was one bar around which local kids congregated back then, the site of helpless crushes and fights and games of pool, a place whose jukebox soundtracked innumerable teenage years as breezy summers rolled into mild winters and back around again. The bar has since disappeared, but as Zach Yudin, the man behind the name, will tell you, the place still holds on tight to its propensity for dreamy, lazy, bonfire-lit nights worth getting moony-eyed about.
Cayucas' debut album bears little resemblance to the sound of modern California that's been so omnipresent over the past few years. Instead, Bigfoot posesses flirty rhythmic sensibilities both snappy and sparkling, a rosy, near-tropical warmth, and a loose and conversational feel that position you right in the line of Yudin's wry gaze.
Having moved to Japan for a yearto teach,he became inspired by the country'slove of electronic music. He started writing Daft Punk-style material while he was out there, and experimenting with the vinyl sampling that would form a crucial component of Cayucas' early sound-old rock albums by bands like the Beach Boys, theTornadoes, and the Animals. Although he has since set aside the synthesizer, this braiding together of proto-pop group classicsfed directly into the album.
Bigfoot was recorded up in the chilly Pacific Northwest-in Oregon, with Secretly's Richard Swift in charge of production. It's the result of Swift and Yudin's symbiotic working relationship, and positivity one of its brightest qualities, even when recalling missed opportunities-there's no space for downcast vibes here. "High School Lover" is perhaps Bigfoot most quintessential song; centered around a chiming rhythm ripe for shimmying, and a tale that sums up Yudin'staste for his own personal nostalgia.
After working at a local independent jazz label for a couple of years, he's now making music full-time, rehearsing with his new band for Cayucas' first live shows, running along theVenice Beach boardwalk, and hitting a certain bar each night to play pool, hang out, and listen to the Beach Boys. Cheap Trick (Speakers Corner)
Cheap Trick proved to a thrilled audience that a band in the late seventies could stay in the limelight over many years without having to reinvent rock 'n' roll. Any band that wanted to survive as an opening act for such top bands as Queen, Kiss and Boston simply had to be either courageous, naive or give a really good show. That Cheap Trick brought their audience to boiling point in a suspiciously similar fashion to such groups as the Beatles, Hollies and Bee Gees, can now be relived by listening to their present debut album. The boys from Illinois realized that a special magic lay in their early numbers and perform here the very best titles from their earlier live acts, which are just as good in these days as in the past. They really get down to business with their »playful, perverse lyrics« (Crawdaddy), which deal with anything from delicate to precarious issues (Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School and He's A Whore). »Cheap Trick is not important for their great innovative qualities but for their considerable entertainment value«, wrote the critical music magazine Melody Maker. Old and new rock fans will revel in this album.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Hot Love
