Standing At The Sky's EdgeNew Album from the Ex-Pulp Member!
The gloves are off. This is my angry record. - Richard Hawley
Leave Your Body Behind You finds Richard Hawley inspired by the grief felt at the passing of friends, contemplating our place in the cosmos, coming on all 13th Floor Elevators in a celebratory valediction, urging us to accept how tiny we are in the grand scheme of things and to try and make the most of the time we have.
Hawley says of the song, So much damage has been done to this world by people who get all their knowledge from one book, be it the Bible or whatever. Adding, If we could just allow ourselves to be liberated by the fact that this is our only time here, we could just get on with what really matters. I really think we could have put a man on the moon 1,000 years ago if we accepted that.
The song perfectly encapsulates what is to be found on Hawley's forthcoming seventh album, Standing At The Sky's Edge. Recorded at Sheffield's Yellow Arch Studio in 2011, the 9-song set marks a seismic shift in direction for Hawley. A euphoric, sonic assault of the senses, channeling elements of psychedelia, space rock and ragas with heavy riffs and raw, visceral guitar solos, as well as more familiar, tender moments, it will surprise Hawley fans and peers alike!1. Live At St. Pancras Old ChurchIn October 2013 Melora Creager and Daniel from Rasputina arrived in London to join us and multi-instrumentalist, Neil Walsh, on a small tour of English churches and halls. With only a day to practice we were all a little apprehensive as we unpacked our instruments and set up some amps in our kitchen but after a few moments as the strings, voices and guitars filled the room we knew the shows ahead were going to turn out just fine.
Melora's and Daniel's cellos and Neil's viola provided new textures and direction to our old songs and it was a tour that left us very grateful for the opportunity to play with such talented friends, to attentive audiences in some spectacular, historical places.
The last night of the tour was recorded in St Pancras Old Church, London and we will be releasing it as a limited edition LP album. The sleeve is hand-drawn and the record will be pressed on heavyweight vinyl.
In the six years since Smoke Fairies first entered a recording studio, they have made three critically acclaimed albums, supported the likes of Bryan Ferry, Laura Marling, Seasick Steve and Richard Hawley, and were the first UK act to be flown to the states to record a single with Jack White for his Third Man Records label.
Jessica Davies and Katherine Blamire met at school in Chichester, West Sussex and have been inseperable ever since, travelling to tour their music across the world.

Herd RunnersWe're thrilled to announce details of Cherry Ghost's third album 'Herd Runners' which will be released on Heavenly Recordings/PIAS.
The record follows up 2007's 'Thirst For Romance' and 2010's 'Beneath This Burning Shoreline', which have since seen Simon Aldred become a songwriter-for-hire, nurturing upcoming British talent including Sam Smith and Kwabs, as well as release a set of critically lauded post-midnight electronic love songs under the guise of Out Cold.
Recorded in Sheffield with long-term Richard Hawley collaborator Colin Elliot and mixed in Bath with Dan Austin, Herd Runners is ten perfectly crafted tales of heartbreak and hope - shifting from soaring, symphonic pop ('Clear Skies Ever Closer') to melancholic lock-in blues ('Drinking for Two') via an almost uncompromisingly hopeful rhythmic shuffle ('The World Could Turn').1. From the opening track, the wonderful melancholia of "Tears of Joy" to the sweeping strings and galloping beat of "Complete Surrender" to the brassy and hook-laden "Suffering Me, Suffering You" this is the sound of a band coming into their own and creating an album brimming with confidence, skill and managing, throughout, to harness both the spirit of their influences and their constant desire to experiment.1. Skeleton SoulJack Sandham and Wednesday Lyle have been playing together as Cowbell since late 2009 when they got together for a late night jam session and things took off from there. Three 7" singles followed over the next 18 months and they signed to Damaged Goods in 2012. Two years on from their debut album Beat Stampede, the rockin' duo branch out into a more spooky atmospheric sound across the 11 tracks on the new album. There's a definite dark, New Orleans R&B vibe to Skeleton Soul.
Kicking off with the spaghetti western intro of the album's opening track, 'Cry Wolf' the duo cover plenty of new ground while retaining the urgency and excitement of their earlier work. Though what makes this new album so special is the evocative mood the band created with Ed Deegan at Gizzard Studio. Imagine Dr. John meets the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The sound is still a stripped down affair, though this time round the drum 'n' guitar bones are fleshed out with a few enhancing overdubs such as the Doors-esque spiky psychedelic organ on 'She's All Over You', and some soulful saxophone on the funky, strutting 'Dirt'.
The band show they're equally adept at intimate ballads with 'Darkness In Your Heart', perhaps the best song Richard Hawley never wrote. Wednesday takes the lead vocal on 'Heart On The Line' a track which recalls the cream of '60s girl singers such as Sandie, Dusty et al. Fans of the group's earlier sound will not be disappointed either, there's still the bone-shaking garage blues numbers such as 'Oh Yolande' and 'Baby It's Your Love' along with the swampy mambo-blues groove of 'The Fear'. Imagine a band with the guitar twang of The Cramps over jungle-tribal drums, covering The Zombies and you're somewhere close.1. Cry Wolf
