    Berlioz: Requiem

This Requiem calls for immense instrumental and vocal resources used not only for power but also for the most subtle and varied refinement of color, and at times making distinct use of music heard to come from different directions. The main orchestra consists of four flutes, two oboes, two English horns, four clarinets, 12 horns, eight bassoons, four cornets, four tubas, 16 kettle drums, two bass drums, four tamtams, 10 cymbals and an enormous complement of strings.

In addition, in the Tuba mirum, Rex tremendae and Lacrymosa, four brass bands are arranged about the orchestra and emanate from the four points of the compass: North, consisting of four trumpets, four trombones and two tubas; East, of four trumpets and four trombones; West, of four trumpets and four trombones; and South, of four trumpets, four trombones, and four tubas. There are also two choruses and a tenor soloist, the latter was placed in the organ loft and is heard from a great distance from the original loudspeakers.

Mozart Requiem (Speakers Corner) (Awaiting Repress)

Among all those sacred compositions that deal with the end of life, Mozart's Requiem penetrates one's heart and soul like no other apocalyptic work. One reason for this is surely the rather mysterious story surrounding its composition, a mixture of truth and legend, which arose during the arduous last months of the ailing Salzburg composer. Although the various developmental stages and the extent to which Mozart's pupils participated in the composition may never be fully clarified, the mystical power of the enigmatic fragments remains constant to this day.

Sir Colin Davis lends an immediate relentlessness to the sounds of despair that is already apparent in the tense, pulsating opening bars, and which is taken to the very limits of playability in the climactic Dies irae. While the swift tempi might appear rather surprising, they serve to dampen any sort of opera-like sentimentality of which many recordings are guilty. The consolatory timbre in the vocal parts make them come across as oases of calm in the prevailing atmosphere of biting cold, fearsome drama, and flickering hope, all of which breathes musical life into this mass for the dead.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Requiem

Requiem is the seventh studio album by Swedish extreme metal band Bathory. It eschews the Viking metal style of Bathory's three previous releases for a thrash metal style that recalls many of the bands that initially influenced Bathory. This album marks the return of Bathory after Quorthon put the band on hold to record his first solo album.

    Requiem

Taking Hardcore, Grind, Crust, and Metal and playing them all like they're the same thing Seattle's Skarp have crafted a a sonic suicide note that demands to be heard. Adeptly interlaced with samples that set the stage for the ensuing mayhem, Requiem is loosely conceptual, with all fourteen tracks (and an intro) touching on the topic of suicide.
Throughout the record, the band keeps the proceedings fresh and intense, as bulldozing heavy moments crush the listener under the sheer massive weight of the riffs, while haunting, multi-textural riffs complement the raw power with just enough color in the dark musical landscape. Post-nordic Black Metal-isms segue into raw speed-crust seamlessly, creating a musical balance of terror that is as intense as it is effective.

Formed in 2000 as a band heavily influenced by Choking Victim, Skarp quickly steered their ships into heavier, more turbulent waters, trading the ska elements for blast beats. Their EPs established the band's presence in the underground and heavy touring throughout the western US, as well as all over Canada followed. In 2004 the band gigged exhaustively throughout Europe for the first time as well. Skarp at last came to the attention of AT's overlord, the irrepressible Jello Biafra after they opened his shows with the Melvins on New Year's 2004/2005 in Seattle. After thoroughly devastating the audience, Biafra knew that AT would be the only logical home for such a passionate and independent act.

The band was signed and began to craft Requiem under the watchful eye of veteran producer Billy Anderson forging a fearsome aural assault. Skarp's savage brand of grinding mayhem, known as Blackout Grind amongst the band's true believers, will strike a chord with all fans of crust, grind, hardcore and the more virulent strains of metal.

    Mozart: Requiem

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart left a major work unfinished when he died in Vienna in December 1791, just a few weeks short of his 36th birthday. In a strange yet poetic irony it was the setting of the Requiem Mass.

Many myths have grown up around the Requiem and the last few months of the composer's life. Over recent decades, Amadeus, the play by Peter Shaffer that became an Oscar-winning movie in 1984, has played a key role in perpetuating and amplifying them.

This recording features Helen Donath, soprano, Christa Ludwig, mezzo-soprano, Robert Tear, tenor, and Robert Lloyd, bass.

    Faure Requiem

From 1957 to 1974 Sir David Willcocks held the post for which he is probably best known, Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge. He made numerous recordings with the college choir, of which the FaurÉ Requiem is probably the most admired and toured extensively with the choir, giving concerts worldwide, as well as garnering further acclaim internationally through television and radio appearances. He held this and other academic positions at Cambridge until the 1970s when he accepted the post of director of the Royal College of Music. In the 1971 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and was created a Knight Bachelor in 1977 in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Honours.

Interestingly, the FaurÉ Requiem was not recorded in Kings College Chapel but the more manageable acoustic of Trinity College Chapel, Cambridge, on 10 December 1967. Produced by Christopher Bishop and Engineered by Neville Boyling.

Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS80 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional playback head.

Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards and features the original album artwork.

    Black Swan Soundtrack

Including 4 Page Insert With Photos, Track Listing And Credits

Black Swan is a 2010 American psychological thriller film directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder. The plot revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake ballet by a prestigious New York City company. Usually described as a psychological thriller, Black Swan can be also interpreted as a metaphor for achieving artistic perfection, with all the psychological and physical challenges one might encounter.

The original score for the film was composed by Clint Mansell, an English musician, composer, and former lead singer of the band Pop Will Eat Itself. Mansell was introduced to film scoring when director Darren Aronofsky hired him to score his debut film, Pi. Ever since Mansell wrote the score for many of Aronofsky's films. Notable film scores include Pi, The Fountain, Moon, Smokin' Aces, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Doom, Black Swan, and High-Rise.

    Last Night

Last Night is a 2010 romantic drama directed by Massy Tadjedin featuring Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet. The story follows a married couple, apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague to whom he's attracted. While he's resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love.

The score (surprisingly unavailable until now) is composed by one of the most exciting composers of our times, Clint Mansell (the long time musical collaborator of director Darren Aronofsky: Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Black Swan, The Wrestler, Pi). This beautiful, piano driven score is finally available and features the end credit song Final Movement composed by Clint Mansell and with vocals by Peter Broderick. 180g vinyl pressing.

Like the finest writing Ive read, Clints music grips unexpectedly and stays with you as long as it does in exactly the same way. For what we had managed to capture and steal and amass, Clint provided tone, shading, pacing and the indefinable otherness only music can. - Massy Tadjedin, Director

Top Ten Hits Of The End Of The World

It's 2012, and Prince Rama has made the Top Ten Hits of the End of the World. Conceived as a pseudo-compilation album, the Brooklyn duo invented ten different pop bands that died during the apocalypse, channeling the ghosts of each one to perform the various songs. Spanning genres and stylistic eras from across the globe, Top Ten Hits explores pop music's relationship to memory, nostalgia, and the spirit world.

Incorporating influences as disparate as cosmic disco, motorcycle rock, new-wave, grunge, tribal goth, Arabic pop, and ghost-modern glam, Prince Rama filters each sound through the destroyed lens of a post-apocalyptic future looking back at the wonders of its sonic past. Tracking began with Tim Koh in Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti's studio and was then completed and mixed with producer Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Sun City Girls, Arcade Fire) at Gravelvoice in Seattle.

Top Ten Hits of the End of the World isn't just a pop album, it's a retrospective requiem of all pop albums ever made. Nothing like this has ever been attempted by a single band, and its residual echoes will continue to haunt this world and the next. LP comes with digital download card.

Mansell's score-gentle, yearning, and full of hope-paired magnificently with the more boisterous '80s pop in the episode, underscoring key emotional moments. - Substream

The score to San Junipero is a melancholic and nostalgic synth-orchestral ambience, which transcends the '80s setting of the show, interweaving forlorn strings, static-tinged electronica and beautifully washing orchestral pieces alike. Enticing and repeating melodies feature against a captivating backdrop of graceful strings, encapsulating the on-screen mood perfectly. Clint Mansell is well known for his previous work on PI, Requiem For A Dream, Moon, the 'Ivor Novello' Award nominated High Rise and The Fountain for which he received a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Score, alongside many more.

    Something Special

The three years spent on MGM Records between 1966 and 1968 were golden ones for Lee Hazlewood. He spent them working with his muse, Suzi Jane Hokom, writing a still-unreleased book, The Quiet Revenge of Elmo Furback, competing with Phil Spector from their respective studios, and coming up with the formula for the boy/girl" songs for which he'd become famous. In fact, the unflattering portrait on the cover of Something Special did little to hint at how hip this late-flowering talent (he was in his late 30s when "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" made him a star songwriter) had become.

The common strand on the MGM trilogy is one of the unexpected happening. They were an ill fit for a major label-experimental, difficult to pigeonhole, and unpredictable. Those descriptors apply nowhere more aptly than Something Special. Where 1966's The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood and 1967's Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause And Cure had employed an arranger, Billy Strange, and a full orchestra, Something Special stripped things back and brought in a flavor of jazz and blues, complete with gravelly-voiced scatting courtesy of collaborator Don Randi. This sat alongside tracks like "Little War" and "Hands," the kind of late night, acoustic balladeering Hazlewood would later seize for his career-highlight LP, Requiem For An Almost Lady. The sound was that of a stripped-down nightclub jazz/blues/folk combo, fully rejecting the psychedelic music going on all over the world.

The album made clear that forging a career as a serious star was not at the top of Hazlewood's agenda, and at the third opportunity, he'd let the listener in on the joke. Tellingly, Hokom recalls Hazlewood saying the MGM albums were his "expensive demos. I'm sure that MGM thought that they would be successful." Little chance of that with Something Special -it was originally released only in Germany. The same year, Hazlewood founded the LHI imprint, and began building his own empire, one we've been lovingly archiving for the past few years. We now present this missing link in the story, three albums that generated some of Hazlewood's best-and most varied-work.

Galaktikon II: Become the Storm (Pre-Order)

Brendon Small - the mastermind behind massive metal band Dethklok and albums The Dethalbum (the highest-charting death metal album ever on the Billboard Top 200 chart), Dethalbum II, Dethalbum III and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem - has been teasing a new chapter of his popular Galaktikon saga for months. After spending the past two years writing and recording new material and dropping random hints throughout the media and at appearances, the wait is over.

This year, marking the 10 year anniversary of his breakout Dethklok release, The Dethalbum, Brendon Small will reveal his upcoming high-stakes intergalactic extreme rock/metal album, Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, to the masses.

Galaktikon II: Become The Storm follows the space-age theme of 2012's original Galaktikon album, with a conceptual storyline and a heavier, darker, more brutal sound. In addition to Brendon Small on vocals and guitar, the new album will feature acclaimed musicians and Dethklok alum Bryan Beller (bass/The Aristocrats, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai) and Gene Hoglan (drums/Testament, Death, Dark Angel). Galaktikon II: Become The Storm was co-produced by Small and Grammy-nominated producer/engineer Ulrich Wild, who also worked behind the board on the Dethklok albums.

With these names behind the project, it should come as no surprise that Galaktikon II: Become The Storm is a welcomed transformation and expansion of the sound that put Brendon Small on the musical map. With uncapped time and creativity on their side, Small & Co. were able to reach above and beyond what fans have come to expect as of now. Galaktikon II: Become The Storm proves to be Small's most commanding release yet.

This record is a combination of all the sounds I've been making throughout my creative life, says Brendon Small. It's as heavy as I want it to be and melodic as I want it to be - it's the bigger, darker record I wanted to hear. And what a way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary of making metal with Gene, Bryan and Ulrich, some of the best in the industry. I'm excited to have it live inside listeners' heads and let their imaginations take over!

    Constricting Rage Of The Merciless

From the combatant onset of Poisonous Existence In Reawakening, and the tense, hammering momentum of Unraveling Paradise, to the punkish urgency of FBS and the fiendish cascades of Schadenfreude (literally meaning the pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others), Goatwhore spew their unadulterated, subterranean metal as channeled through the historic likes of Motörhead and Bathory, with the insatiable hunger of a pack of wild boars. These are true requiems of revolt, at once predatory, epic, hate-fueled and sadistic. Due at least in part to the sheer synergy that comes from living in a van together for weeks on end, Constricting Rage Of The Merciless is razor sharp in musicianship literally writhing beneath the weight of its own sonic enormity. Duet's thick, gnarled guitar tones and bestial vocal accents coil seamlessly around Simmons' and Harvey's, brash, chest-heaving rhythms. It's all punctuated by the imposing voice and cynical prose of Falgoust who literally ran laps around the studio before taking to the mic to summon a more frantic, rasping edge to his signature tirades, now more enunciated than ever before. When Falgoust howls, WE ARE COMING TO SMASH YOUR IDOLS! (in traditional metal rager Baring Teeth For Revolt), souls weaken, forests die, planets implode. In a saturated metal landscape where sub-genres spawn sub-sub-genres and the very definition of metal seems repeatedly distorted by cross-pollinating madness, sacred are the bands who to stay true to their proverbial roots without repeating them.

    The Guessing Game

Doom metal? Prog punk? Psychedelic metal? British legends CATHEDRAL make all categories, genre boundaries and conventional approaches to metal seem redundant. Each one of their past albums showed a different face of CATHEDRAL, and The Guessing Game stays true to this tradition: guess what they came up with this time around!

Produced once again by Warren Riker (DOWN, CROWBAR), who also took care of the band`s last effort „The Garden Of Unearthly Delights" in 2005, The Guessing Game is one wild and unpredictable ride with one of the most unique and exciting acts the metal genre has got to offer! For the first time in the band`s history, they have recorded a double album that boasts thirteen tracks offering a colourful variety of musical styles and lyrical themes: 'Requiem for the voiceless' for example is pure, down`n`out crawling doom - and the first animal rights song in doom metal history! Then you`ll get classic stomping and grooving CATHEDRAL material with the catchy 'Painting in the dark', plus many songs wading through psychedelic and proggy waters - especially 'Funeral of dreams' featuring none other than Alison O`Donnell of MELLOW CANDLE (70s Irish folk rock band) fame doing guest vocals has to be mentioned here! It comes as no surprise that this time around CATHEDRAL went as far as to include exotic instrumentation such as Mellotron and Sitar. And pay special attention to the lyrics of 'Journeys into Jade': Lee Dorrian and co are celebrating 20 years of CATHEDRAL with this one!

And what a way to celebrate this anniversary: traditional CATHEDRAL cover artist Dave Patchett came up with one of his finest artworks in the band`s history, mirroring the themes and musical quirkiness of the album itself. Let`s look forward to another twenty years with CATHEDRAL!

    Fated

A luscious, elegant, electronic work - Los Angeles Times

    Hip-hop instrumentals and electronic sketches;
    pristine and prim - FACT

    Gorgeously haunted - Pitchfork

We seek the new because of the numbness. If you listen to enough
music, you're familiar with the feeling. Sounds get recycled so often
that they can seem like geometric configurations organized via Wav
files. Trends get time-stamped faster than a triplicate trap hi-hat.

The most rare records emerge outside of any clearly delineated orbit.
They're solitary visions that supply their own rhythm and arsenal.
Music that reverberates through heart, brain, and spine. This is Nosaj
    Thing's third album, Fated.

"I just tried to escape really, and escape even what's going on in the
music world," says Nosaj Thing, the LA producer born Jason Chung. "It
just felt so suffocating in a way. I just wanted to do my own thing."

It's been six years since Nosaj Thing emerged among the vanguard of
Low End Theory-affiliated producers. His debut Drift created 31st
century tones and chromatic textures so sleek that they inspired
    innumerable Soundcloud imitators.

None could match its moody iridescence, faded sadness and funky
swing. Bach collided with Boards of Canada. Spaceships came
equipped with rear view mirrors and a booming system bumping
G-Funk and warped soul. Pitchfork called it "gorgeously haunted."
Resident Advisor said it "exists in its own dimension and feeds off its
own exhaust: full of alien choirs, conquered computers, and refracting
    stained-glass light."

Fated exists in this same alternate dimension, but further out. If
comparisons previously existed with other artists within the LA beat
scene, Nosaj has rendered them baseless. His second album on
Innovative Leisure (after 2013's Home) seeks celestial escape through
    streamlining.

"The last record took out so much of me. I just wanted to go back to
simplifying and overthinking so much. It was a battle," Nosaj says.
"The soul of a song, the essence of a song-whatever you want to call
    it-should be simple."

By stripping away all but what's really necessary, the sounds harness
an unusual directness. Guest appearances are rare, save for vocals
from Whoarei on "Don't Mind Me," and Chicago rap phenomenon,
Chance the Rapper. The latter gravely spits on "Cold Stares," invoking
terminal fevers, empty beds, devil's whispers, and insomniac fears.

If comparisons crop up, Fated has most in common with records like
Burial's Untrue or Dilla's Donuts. Requiems that canvass the shadowy
hinterlands between life and death, darkness and light, loneliness and
love. Eternal themes re-imagined in ingenious fashion.

"The album name came from all these coincidences that just kept on
happening to me," Nosaj says. "Specific interaction with specific
people in unexpected places. A perpetual feeling of dÉjà vu."

It's foundation rests on that intangible thing that some call fate or
primordial feeling. Numbness receding, old emotions flooding back,
un-tampered visions. Fated is what you can't explain, so it's best to
    just listen.

I Speak Machine are filmmaker Maf Lewis plus vocalist and synth-nerd Tara Busch. Together they make brooding soundtracks and sci-fi horror films, creating audio and visual in unison and giving both elements equal prominence. Their approach is inspired by Spaghetti Western cinema duo Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone, who used to play with score ideas for scenes while scripts were being written. I Speak Machine's debut offering is The Silence, an eerie and synth heavy journey to accompany their short film of the same name. Early supporters of I Speak Machine include new wave pioneer John Foxx (Ultravox) and soundtrack composer Clint Mansell (Requiem For A Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan). I Speak Machine and illustrator Tommy Lee Edwards are currently working together on further developments to The Silence project.

    Right From Real

"Like a fever dream of Julia Holter
    merging with Grimes, Ainsworth's future
    visions weave neoclassical flourishes and
    enchanted melody-mangles into cool 80's
    sound-beds, and it sounds fantastic."
    - Dazed

"These soundscapes can provide a myriad
    of emotion, from reassurance to
discomfort, anxiety to enthusiasm. [...] it's
an unexpected achievement for such a
young artist and a testament to the power
of music as a purely visceral force."
    - Portals

Composer / producer / singer Lydia Ainsworth has been secretly writing
and recording songs over the past three years from bedrooms and
basements between Toronto and Brooklyn. What began as pass-time
sketches between composing music for film and multimedia projects has
over time revealed an enchanting collection of experimental pop songs
with a life of their own.

Blurring the boundaries between indie music, filmic orchestration, and
electronic music, Lydia's debut "Right From Real" thrives on haunting
melodies and draws inspiration from a wide range of musical sources -
Verdi's Requiem, Ace of Base, Bulgarian Choirs, Bernard Herrmann, Tones
on Tail, Art of Noise to name a few. This sense of unexpected marriages
of influence flows throughout much of Lydia's work which features use of
voice sampling and string arrangements woven into a unique minimalist
    fabric.

    Mozart: Piano Concerto No.25 & No.20

The first new release for ten years from Martha Argerich and Claudio Abbado is their first ever album of concertos by Mozart. The legendary pianist and conductor add the sublime music of Mozart to their unrivalled, multi award-winning DG discography of concertos by Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Ravel, Prokofiev, Beethoven and Liszt.

Both concertos were recorded with Claudio Abbado's Orchestra Mozart, at concert performances at the 2013 Lucerne Festival that had critics searching
for new superlatives. The album contrasts two very different works. Written in D minor, the key of the Queen Of the Night and the opening of Mozart's Requiem, the darkly dramatic No.20, K.466 has a stormy, operatic temperament that looks forward eighteen months to the premiere of Don Giovanni.

With its majestic and radiant opening and a march famously reminiscent of the Marseillaise, No.25 in C major, K.503 is the culmination of the twelve transcendent concertos Mozart wrote in Vienna between 1784 and 1786. This release is Martha Argerich's first recording of solo concertos by Mozart on Deutsche Grammophon.
