    Horrified (Awaiting Repress)

Repulsion is the band that introduced the world to insane blasting drums, bone jarring distorted bass, and the most vile lyrics imaginable. Originally released in Europe in 1989 by members of Carcass on their Necrosis Records label, Horrified is a genre pioneering masterpiece that has influenced so many death acts, most notably Napalm Death, Carcass, Entombed and Cannibal Corpse.

Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die

Ramming Speed have signed to Prosthetic Records, and, surprisingly enough, crafted the follow-up to 2008s Brainwreck full-length.

Titled Doomed To Destroy, Destined To Die and tracked by Converge studio wizard Kurt Ballou, Ramming Speed's second will catapult them from cult, from-the-corner thrash act to recognized purveyors of NWOBHM/grind hybrid. If you haven't heard the Beantown beatnuts, picture DRI covering Napalm Death (early) or Repulsion doing Iron Maiden (early) interpretive runs. Or, just be floored by it and screw our feeble attempts to connect speculative dots.

    Mirror Mirror

Records that instantly deliver greatness can often leave you wanting more, while others slowly but surely sink in its haunting hooks and refuse to let go, like Mirror Mirror, Sons & Daughters third album.

Bunkered down in their rehearsal space inside an old town hall in Glasgows south-west district of Govan, Adele Bethel (vocals, guitar, piano), Scott Paterson (vocals, guitar), Ailidh Lennon (bass, mandolin, piano) and David Gow (drums, percussion) had the task of following up the denser, busier guitar-rock of 2008s Bernard Butler-produced This Gift.

Mirror Mirror is a very different beast to its predecessor. A slow burning sensation, a wiry, raw, sensual injection of primal monochrome rock, it is not only thrillingly contemporary but unique by 2011 standards.

The band reached back to their own past, namely 2006s The Repulsion Box and the bands 2004 mini-album debut Love The Cup for inspiration. As Scott Paterson observes, We sound better when were more minimal. We wanted everything on the new album to be necessary, no added fluff, and only recording on 16-track.

With this model in mind the band enlisted friend and fan Keith McIvor aka JD Twitch of local legends Optimo Music as producer. Mirror Mirror is his first full length album. The mood was further enhanced with mixing by Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, These New Puritans).

    Intermination

Lauded as "one of the most determined and deadly thrash metal acts in recent history (Alibi), German thrash mavens DEW-SCENTED have returned with their 10th studio album Intermination. Featuring 13 punishing tracks of pure thrash metal, the album also boasts a special appearance on guest vocals from Kyle Thomas (Exhorder, Trouble) on the track Reborn in addition to a cover version of grindcore legends Repulsion's Radiation Sickness. Mixed by Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity, Opeth, Bloodbath) while featuring artwork from Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Legion of the Damned), Intermination is set to pulverize crowds worldwide on June 30 via Prosthetic Records.

The band celebrated their 20-year anniversary in 2013 by releasing the comprehensive compilation Insurgent, containing a mix of new original songs with live tracks and hard-to-find covers, which they supported with extensive touring across Europe and Japan including runs with Testament, Death Angel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Sacred Reich. They also maintained a high-profile across the festival scene with appearances at Wacken, Full Metal Cruise, Free & Easy Festival and several more. Stay tuned for news on the band's upcoming appearances!

    Silver Kobalt

In between work for Björk, The Cinematic Orchestra and Anoushka Shankar, the prodigious Hang player and percussionist Manu Delago has inked a deal with Tru Thoughts to release his own new album, 'Silver Kobalt'. The ambitious LP draws lines from pop to the avant-garde.

Aged just 30, Manu Delago is the world's leading Hang player (with 5 million YouTube views for his DIY performance video "Mono Desire") and possesses equally virtuosic skills as a percussionist and drummer alongside ever maturing instincts as a songwriter and producer. The accessible yet startlingly original sound of 'Silver Kobalt' draws on the experience and ideas built up by the London based Austrian native across a high-flying and diverse career to date. From overachieving teenaged rock bands, through extensive classical training; from his exploits at the cutting edge of art pop as the lynchpin of Björk's band, to a London Symphony Orchestra commission which saw him playfully subverting their expectations; this endlessly curious artist has been honing his own style rich in melody, wit and invention.

The title, 'Silver Kobalt', plays on the strangely linked themes of magnets, goblins and human behaviour. Throwing a pair of small magnets in the air one day, Delago recorded their frantic, thrumming sound for the track "Plus Minus"; he also experimented with the detuning effect of a magnet on the Hang. Magnet fascination deepening, he read that some rare elements are permanently magnetised, of which one is cobalt. Then, up popped the pleasing story that cobalt was actually named after the German word for 'goblin' ('kobold') by hapless silver miners who suspected little kobolds had taken all the silver and left them with this substance. Further reading revealed also that all humans contain cobalt which we need to survive. "I really enjoyed this string of information", he says. "As well as this fun idea of little goblins within us, it really struck a chord because I had been thinking a lot about attraction and repulsion - what makes people magnetically drawn to some things, away from others - and that is a strong theme in the music. 'Silver Kobalt' tied it all together."

Tying together the many sonic threads is co-producer Matt Robertson (Björk, The Prodigy, The Streets, Bat For Lashes), following his work on Delago's acclaimed 2013 LP 'Bigger Than Home', the record on which he began to truly develop his current sound. This is a sound that revolves around the unique timbre of the Hang, but encompasses much more, from acoustic percussion, bassoon, piano and chimes to multi-layered beats and a variety of synths.

The hypnotic, nursery rhyme-like Hang melody of lead single "Disgustingly Beautiful" feat. Isa Kurz opens the album; the affecting vocals of Kurz (also the pianist and violinist on record and in the live outfit Manu Delago Handmade) ride a bass-heavy undercurrent, with added beats from Grammy nominated producer j.viewz. On the spiky yet melodically catchy "Plus Minus", the aforementioned magnet theme is extended into the composition, with two main lines that are pulled together and pushed apart. "Drumheart feat. Anil Sebastian" is pristine bassy pop lifted onto another plane by the haunting, androgynous vocals of the up-and-coming singer.

Stealthily moving into a fascinating instrumental section, "Down to the Summit" (which, unusually, uses the Indian drone instrument Surpeti for harmony) leads to the punchy, subby Hang sound and four-handed piano tinkering of "Wandering Around" and on to the joyful "Simon is Psychling", which calls to mind a DJ with speakers on a bike, circling a big field, one lap bringing a bassoon solo, another an industrial noise-fest. Restoring calm, "Sun In The North feat. Isa Kurz" is a potent lyrical snapshot from a day on the beach on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, its rhythms inspired by playing with Indian musicians there. Cobalt gets its glory in the shape-shifting "Chemical Reaction feat. Rahel", and the lovelorn "Dearest" was conceived on tour in Australia where Delago captured the fairytale vocals of celebrated Australian folk singer Katie Noonan. "Almost Thirty", in Delago's words, "draws a bow from Eurotrash Dance Music to Austrian folk music, with some brainy immature rhythm ejaculations in between"; a banger that skirts the border between strange-town and club-land, it is a thrilling way to see out both his third decade on Earth and the album.

Having been given his first drum kit aged two, also learning the accordion and piano in childhood, Manu Delago was a professional performer by his teens, but it was in 2003, when he began playing the Hang - an enchanting new sound sculpture from Switzerland - that he discovered his passion for writing music. On graduating from the university Mozarteum in Innsbruck, he moved to London and studied at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Trinity College of Music. With this pedigree, the lessons learned from collaborating with his heroes, and influences from The Prodigy to Bon Iver, Michael Jackson to Stravinsky and Beyonce to Rage against the Machine, his music is as impeccably realised as it is impossible to classify. Delago has featured heavily in the world's media, having toured on six continents and played festivals including Shambala, Green Man, Haldern Pop, Reeperbahn, Eurosonic and Popfest Vienna.

    Omen Of Disease

Brought forth in 1998, BROKEN HOPE was the brainchild of guitarist/chief-lyricist-songwriter, Jeremy Wagner. Though Jeremy was still attending High School, his passion and drive for bringing the band out of obscurity was apparent from the start. In 1989 and 1990, BROKEN HOPE recorded two demo tapes which landed them a deal with the underground label, Grind Core records. In 1991, BROKEN HOPE spewed forth their debut album, Swamped In Gore, which subsequently launched the band out of the underground and into the mainstream. Swamped In Gore was not only ahead of its time musically but it was also the first digitally-recorded death-metal album yet again showing the forward thinking of the then fledgling act.

By 1993, BROKEN HOPE broke away from their first record label and quickly was immediately approached by Metal Blade Records. BROKEN HOPE released four albums with Metal Blade Records: The Bowels of Repugnance, Repulsive Conception, Loathing, and the re-release of Swamped In Gore. 1995's Repulsive Conception, reached CMJ New Music Monthly's Metal Top 25 chart, as did the follow-up, 1997's Loathing.

In 2013, BROKEN HOPE put pen to paper and signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. Their sixth album, OMEN of DISEASE, is slated for an October 2013 release. The album features new members, Damian Leski (vocals), Mike Micezek (drums), and Chuck Wepfer (lead guitar). Trevor Strnad of THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER makes a guest appearance on backing vocals for the track, "Rendered Into Lard." Omen of Disease also features the artwork and return of BROKEN HOPES's former (and brilliant) album cover artist, Wes Benscoter (SLAYER, KREATOR, MORTICIAN plus many more).

BROKEN HOPE has absolutely delivered their sickest, most ferocious creation to date with Omen of Disease and they're just getting started.

Strauss - Ein Heldenleben (On Sale)

Cut from the Original Analog EMI Master Tapes at Abbey Road Studios!

Sir Thomas Beecham as a conductor was largely self-taught. Born into a rich industrial family, he was able to access funds to nurture his musical talent and later found and sustained orchestras, like the London Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic, featured here in this famous recording of Strauss' last and largest tone poem Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life).

His flamboyant style and acerbic wit often created enemies amongst his peers (Boult found him repulsive and Barbirolli mistrusted him) and admirers amongst contemporary composers, such as Strauss, Stravinsky and Sibelius, who sent telegrams for Beecham's 70th birthday celebrations only for Beecham to quip Nothing from Mozart?

As producer Victor Olof writes on the sleeve: This recording is virtually the last major orchestral work that Sir Thomas Beecham taped. I do not remember his making fun at all during these sessions, as he was apt to do on most occasions. Maybe he considered this as his lasting memorial to an old friend, little realizing that it would also be his own memorial.

Recorded on April 17 & 22, 1958 at the Kingsway Hall, London; produced by the legendary Victor Olof and Peter Andry; and engineered by Robert Gooch. Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analog master tapes with the Neumann VMS82 lathe fed an analog pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional 'advance' playback head, making the cut a totally analog process.

    The Great Annihilator (Awaiting Repress)

    2017 Remastered 2LP

The Swans are a study in metamorphoses. In 1983, when Melody Maker magazine dubbed the NYC noise mavens a deeply repulsive form of audio pornography, it was more a compliment than a slam. Cacophonous, confrontational, and unrelentingly loud, the band used vocal rants and bone-crunching distortion to achieve unparalleled levels of sonic pain.

Then, around '87 or so, rock's ugliest ducking found its inner Swan and blossomed into a vehicle for sweeping, complex arrangements of keyboards, strings and evocative sound effects. Vocalist Michael Gira traded his guttural growl for the croon of a balladeer, and the latter-day Swans were born.

Their 12th album, The Great Annihilator, is a majestic symphony of haunting melodies and shifting moods. Spirituality - or rather the absence of it - provides the linking motif. With a kinetic industrial goose step, She Lives! plays with chanted images of madness and martyrdom, while the jagged coda of Celebrity Lifestyle lays the groundwork for a cutting look at material dreams: She's just a drug addiction/ And a self-reflecting image of a narcoticized mind. Warm forms the album's thematic center, overflowing with ethereal vocal loops and drums that patter like raindrops accross the lyrical landscape. On Mother/Father and the mantric My Buried Child, vocalist Jarboe outdoes herself with a spectrum of darkly distinctive voices.

Taken on its own, this album is a vivid example of how to combine the dissonant with the dulcet while retaining a dangerous edge. Viewed in the context of the Swans' 12-year journey from audio pornography to majestic romanticism, The Great Annihilator serves as an epic apotheosis.

California's grindcore/death metal misfits Cretin return with their first new material of freakish, extreme metal in over eight years! A perverted homage to the glory days of proto-grind and raw, depraved death metal, Cretin have perfected the lo-fi stylings of Repulsion, Autopsy and early Napalm Death with their highly anticipated sophomore full-length, Stranger. Oozing with violent, buzz-saw guitars, grinding grooves and blasts, a gut-wrenching low end and utterly deviant vocals/lyrics, Stranger will bring a malignant smile to those who prefer their listening sick and twisted.

    Transformer (Speakers Corner) (Awaiting Repress)

Ranked 194/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

It is well known that comparisons seldom get to the root of the matter, but in the case of Lou Reed, for example, they certainly reveal the unassuredness of those people who made them. Is he or isn't he the Chuck Berry or Sergeant Pepper of the Seventies, or is he deliberately building up an image of himself as an ultra-sensitive Frankenstein, who lived out his neuroses and drug trips in horrific sound? Some records are so unbelievably repulsive, raged the magazine Rolling Stone, that one would best like to take physical revenge on the artists who commit such offences.

The album Transformer, however, can by no means be classified as a case of 'acoustic bodily harm'. It appeared just a few months after the somewhat unsuccessful appearance of Lou Reed's fairly underground first release and rocketed straight into the charts. This production had two British guardian angels to help it on its way, namely David Bowie and Mick Ronson, both of whom obviously knew how to steer Reed's songwriting qualities into safe waters, without watering down his biting sarcasm and humorous provocation.
And that's why grating guitar rock (Vicious) is found alongside a bittersweet, tender ballad (Perfect Day) and even an old-time jazz parody (Goodnight Ladies) which is sung with a tongue a heavy as lead. Why then compare this highly original music mix with others, when it's so much easier to hear this record for what it is - a truly cult album?

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Suicide (Out Of Stock)

Ranked 446/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Seven years after the duo's inception, Suicide's self-titled debut album finally sneaked out in 1977 on the coattails of the New York punk scene. If its aim had been to confuse, startle, or repulse, Suicide succeeded in spades. By the same token, if a part-time sculptor and avant-garde jazz musician form a two-chord synthesizer duo and call it Suicide, commercial considerations are presumably low on their list of priorities. Their bleak, one-act plays of violence and sexual deviance, and lo-fi monotone punctuated by sleazy groans and horrifying screams, still induce nervous tension despite the passing years.
