The jewel in the Living Stereo crown. Enchantment awaits within! Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony convey the listener on a magic carpet of Living Stereo sound to mythic Arabia and China, guided by two of Russia's greatest orchestral masters.

This, like the Respighi, is considered one of the very best recordings by Reiner, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and RCA's crew. A disc of supple and sensuous performances, the sound alternately shimmers and stuns with the clarity of its definition and intensity of its climaxes.

Grade: A+. As good as this record has ever sounded. Liquidly beautiful string and wind tone, very deep and powerful bass (although the orchestra occasionally overloads the mics or mic preamps, as it does on the original RCA pressings), sensational dynamics on both the Ravel Rapsodie and the Rachmaninoff Isle of the Dead (with some of the lifelike ease you usually only hear on reel-to-reel tape), and astonishing preservation of inner detail (some of which I haven't heard before this clearly on vinyl or digital). - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

Yet another giant of the Living Stereo series. The Isle Of The Dead is a truly awesome orchestral spectacular with dynamic peaks that will stun most listeners. Also included is the equally stirring version of Rhapsodie Espagnole.

    Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel/Death And Transfiguration

Mastered By Willem Makee From The Original Analog Tape

200-Gram LP Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

Fritz Reiner conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This Strauss recording uniting RCA star Fritz Reiner with the Vienna Philharmonic (one of Decca's star orchestras), was released in 1959, marking the first fruit of an agreement that in return for loaning RCA some of their artists, Decca was permitted to distribute RCA recordings throughout the U.K. and Europe. In addition, Decca agreed to record under license some of their own artists, in sessions paid for and sponsored by RCA, for release on the Red Seal label. High Fidelity, at the time of the original release, called it as fine an example as we have of Reiner's preeminent place among the living disciples of Richard Strauss.

Recorded by Decca engineer James Brown in Vienna's Sofiensall, the sound is as tubby as a Bavarian burgher. The playing is, as advertised, first-rate.

Grade: A+. Once again, as good as I've heard this record sound. Gorgeous strings, superb bass, avalanche dynamics with that same tape-like ease, sensational inner detail. The authority of the CSO is really something on fortissimo tuttis, of which there are many in Pictures. - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

Another sonic and musical blockbuster from the unbeatable combo of Reiner and RCA (and Mohr & Layton). Recorded in 1957 at Chicago's Orchestra Hall; the original analog session tapes were used in mastering for LPs and SACDS. Mussorgsky's inspiration for Pictures was the death of his dear friend, the architect and visual artist Victor Hartman. Having died at age 39, Hartman had not yet had the opportunity to realize any of his architectural visions, and Mussorgsky was angered that his friend would have no legacy. The Architects' Society arranged an exhibition of some of Hartman's sketches - some of architecture, others of characters or scenes from everyday life. The tribute was enough to give Mussorgsky ideas for his composition, but not enough to give Hartman any lasting place in history. Today, of all of the sketches that were captured in music, only six can be positively identified.

The piece is known today primarily through the orchestral version created by Maurice Ravel in 1922. In fact, the work had already been orchestrated multiple times, by a variety of lesser names. Some conductors today find that Ravel's version, in spite of its color, sacrifices some of the coarse nature inherent in Mussorgsky's piano original. Furthermore, Ravel worked from Rimsky-Korsakov's edited version of the piano part - the only one available at the time - which changed some notes and rhythms.

None of the orchestrations, however, change the fundamental spirit of the piece. Mussorgsky imagines himself making his way down the hallway that showcased his late friend's work, with his stately procession represented by the Promenade that opens the piece and returns several times. Upon stopping at each image, he reflects on what he sees. Between the early movements, the promenade returns regularly, as Mussorgsky is conscious of moving from one scene to the next. As the work progresses, however, he becomes less aware of the interval between pictures, and more immersed in the continuous psychological experience of moving from one state of mind to the next. By the end, the composer sees himself transformed by the connection with Hartman through his visual expressions of Russian pride and humanity.

RCA Living Stereo Classical LPs - The Gold Standard For Top Quality Orchestral Performance And Sound!

Remastered And Cut At 33 1/3 RPM By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Lacquers Plated By Gary Salstrom And Pressed On 200-Gram Vinyl At Quality Record Pressings!

Grade A+. Another one of HP's favorites, this LP (at least in its earliest pressings) is famously wonderful sounding, and the Analogue Productions version certainly lives up to the hype. Once again string tone - and this disc is celebrated for its string tone - is ravishingly beautiful. The bass is astonishingly deep and authoritative. And the dynamics are tremendous. In sum, I highly recommend all of these celebrated RCAs in their Analogue Productions reissues. They will cost you $30 a disc, which is a more-than-fair price considering that they are, IMO, uniformly superb (yes, better than the Classic Record versions). - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

We compared this new 200-gram, 33 RPM LP from Analogue Productions with the original RCA Living Stereo issue and Classic Records' 33 RPM version, and were surprised at the outcome. Why? Because to these ears, the new Analogue Productions version was the more relaxed and natural sounding of the bunch. The sound is as it should be, inviting the listener into the music and entirely constant with Reiner's readings. ... If ever there were a must-have LP in the recent wave of audiophile vinyl reincarnations, this is it. Treat yourself and thank (Analogue Productions' Chad) Kassem for doing it the justice it deserves. - Harry Pearson, HP Soundings, May 2013.

Without a doubt, the AP pressing sounds much more natural than the Classic Records reissue; the sound is simply less forced, as if the notes and rhythms have more air to explore, more ambient Hall to reverberate, and more of the acoustic envelope to reveal. ... the vinyl is so damn quiet, you can turn it up without any hesitation ... The solo violin is the heart of this recording and it's supposed to sound seductive, and on this reissue, it does. One thing if for certain, there is a lot more information coming through than on the original. The AP pressing takes the simplistic approach of the Chesky, but with a more developed sound, making the Chesky appear a bit more subdued by comparison. ... If you are interested in hearing this classic RCA in all of its natural glory, you needn't look any further than Chad Kassem's latest offering. If this is any indication of Analogue Production's current batch of RCA reissues (approximately 24 more on the way), it just may be a new golden age for the modern vinyl listener. - Joey Weiss, HP Soundings, May 2013

The second movement is just ravishing in the beauty of the Chicago's playing and Reiner's romantic approach; there is some staccato triple-tonguing done by trumpeter Adolph Herseth in the fourth movement that should leave you, if not him, breathless. But let is just be said that, after you hear this, no other Scheherazade will ever replace it in your affections. HP's The Golden Dozen LPs - Harry Pearson, The Absolute Sound, June/July 2007

The jewel in the Living Stereo crown. This, like the Respighi, is considered one of the very best LPs by Reiner, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and RCA's crew. Another Mohr and Layton classic.

Since its original release on LP in the mid-1950s, Fritz Reiner's rendition of the Concerto for Orchestra has stood as the standard against which all other recordings of the work are measured. Reiner's superb control of his orchestra and of Bartók's rhythms and textures is still unsurpassed, even by dozens of subsequent conductors in the digital age. Likewise, the Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta shows just what an incredible ensemble the Chicago Symphony was under Reiner's direction. The original 2-track session tapes were used in mastering for this LP.

Grade A. The exceedingly rare 1s/1s pressing of this disc has been celebrated and sought after ever since Carol B. Kessler wrote her famous article in TAS on the best RCAs (she ranked the 1s/1s Pines the #3 RCA of all-time). If you don't have a 1s/1s pressing, you will doubtlessly find this remastering sensational. Since I do have a 1s/1s, I'd have to say that there are aspects of the 1s/1s that are marginally superior to the Analogue Productions reissue - and vice versa. Though beautiful, string tone doesn't seem quite as silken on the Kassem reissue as it does on the RCA original; on the other hand, the staggeringly powerful bass on The Pines of the Appian Way (replete with gong and organ) retains all of its thunder and then some on the Analogue Productions re-pressing with, once again, a fair measure of tape-like ease and authority. (As with The Reiner Sound, the base is a little murky in spots, probably the results of mic preamp overload. In any event that occasional murkiness is also present on the 1s/1s and the Classic reissue.) - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

A highly sought-after RCA shaded dog Living Stereo title, the performance and sonics found within rate a 10/10. A must have - the dynamics are monstrous! Whichever other Respighi tone poem recordings you ultimately purchase, you MUST own this one. Since the early '60s it has been the standard by which all others have been judged, and in terms of both sound and performance, it has never really been surpassed. Brahms - Hungarian Dances (Speakers Corner)

Fritz Reiner dedicated himself to the interpretation of works by modern composers such as Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss and BÉla Bartók, and it suited him well to tackle works such as Brahms's Hungarian Dances and Dvorák's Slavonic Dances. These lively compositions require a conductor whose interaction with the orchestra is vivacious and animated. Reiner always demanded utmost concentration and perfection from his ensemble. Under his baton, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra plays with enthusiasm and without restaint; no trace of a sterile concert atmosphere is found in this recording.

Reiner's penchant for effects is not irritating, but rather adds highlights which support his highly musical interpretation, indeed one even forgets this trait when listening to the brilliant music.

From a tonal point of view, the sound is beautifully balanced and reaches the highest standards despite its recording date of 1960 - or maybe just for that reason? The recording is characterized by its brilliance, warmth and vivacity with the result that listening becomes a true musical pleasure.

    Musicians:

    • Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

    • Fritz Reiner (conductor)

Recording: June 1960 at Sofiensaal, Vienna by James Brown

    Production: Erik Smith

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Stand By Me Soundtrack

    30th Anniversary 180 Gram Vinyl

Thirty years ago, director Rob Reiner chose the picturesque town of Brownsville, Oregon as the filming location for his classic coming-of-age story, Stand By Me. The heart-warming movie was nominated for an Academy Award and has continued to be a favourite of both critics and fans around the world.

The film, whose plot is based on Stephen King's novella The Body and title is derived from the Ben E. King's eponymous song, which plays over the opening and ending credits, tells the story of four boys in small town Oregon who go on a hike across the countryside over Labour Day weekend in 1959 to find the dead body of a missing child.

The classic original soundtrack is crammed with early rock & roll hits (Yakety Yak, Lollipop & Great Balls of Fire o.a.) and still sounds very alive today, decades after they were originally recorded.

    Automaton

Gossamer is Evan Reiner-the producer, guitarist, synthesizer scientist and
urban-spelunking field recorder whose full-length debut Automaton dissolves
the genre-breaking electronica of Autechre and Boards of Canada into a
bottomless sea of found sound and ambient atmosphere. It's less an album than
an environment all its own, or a journey into the unexplored. And whether it's
inspiring a trip deep into the discography of Steve Reich or into California's
beautifully desolate Ansel Adams Wilderness, it's that fearless spirit of
exploration that brought Automaton to life.

Reiner grew up in the L.A. neighborhood of Eagle Rock with a father telling war
stories about seeing Black Flag and the Germs play and with a set of cousins
who'd get him started listening to hip-hop. (Especially instrumentals by
iconoclastic producers like Premier, RZA and New York's crushing DITC crew,
Reiner remembers.) As he turned 16, he was playing guitar "religiously," he says,
as well as listening intently to Slayer and Cannibal Corpse on the way to
ferocious hardcore shows on the fringes of Los Angeles.

By the time he graduated high school, he was a hardcore kid with a heavy
grounding in hip-hop who'd developed so tremendously as a guitarist that he
was practicing notoriously formidable Django Reinhardt songs for fun. The
connection might not seem obvious, but it was there nonetheless-these were
three distinct musical forms equally dedicated to passion, individual technique
    and total commitment to expression.

He won admission to the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston, where
his first semesters in the fall of 2009 were everything he'd hoped. But the more
he studied, the clearer it became that he'd need to strike out on his own: "So
many professors would tell their students what the right thing to do was in a
creative setting," he says now. "There is no right way."

He'd once used his computer just to help with his composition homework, but
now he was restless. So he began to focus on the potential of electronic music:
"I realized it was like having every component of a band at your fingertips," he
says. "It felt free and genuine with no distractions." He'd begun to make his own
field recordings, too, capturing the sounds of Boston at sunrise and stirring
them into his beat experiments. Intense study of movie sound and foley artistry,
like pouring sand across drum cymbals or using spent shells from a gun range
for percussion, gave him a whole new vocabulary, and he found further
inspiration in artists from Ai Weiwei to Maya Duren to Stanley Kubrick to Delia
Derbyshire-people who blew open the boundaries of their own disciplines.
Then in July 2013, he began to make what would become his first full-length
album as Gossamer. He'd rent an armful of microphones and hike to the tunnels
under Pasadena's eerie Devil's Gate Dam, site of suicides and barely-thwarted
summonings in the tradition of Aleister Crowley. ("The echo is crazy," he says.)
During a month in Japan, he recorded "terrifying trains" and cicadas and the
squeals of a rusting bicycle. He'd record himself smashing trash under a bridge
in downtown L.A., or knocking rebar against rotting wood 8,000 feet above sea
level in California's Ansel Adams Wilderness Area. Then he'd come
home-whether "home" at that particular moment was his own studio, a capsule
hotel in Japan, a friend's place in Boston or a temporary space in New York-and
"make accidents happen," he says, with recorders and samplers and guitar and
(this time) a stable of analog synthesizers.

The result was Gossamer's Automaton, a precise and gentle dreamscape of
experimental electronica, where the ambient atmosphere of Gas drifts across
the fractured beats of Autechre or Boards of Canada. It starts with its own
sunrise on "Thoughtform," where birdsong melts into ghostly vocals and waves
of synthesizer, and then shifts into the haunting "Print," which transplants the
sci-fi sensibilities of Vangelis to some desolate and wild new world. His "Okuma"
is like a Tortoise song that never touches solid ground, while tracks like [3] and
[5] recall the Brian Eno of Fourth World, somehow ancient and futuristic at
once. When the crickets start chirping on closer "-;- ", it's a signal that the
day-and the journey-are both coming to an end. It's might be his first album,
but it's also a first step towards something new.

"Automaton is me," Reiner explains. "It's my process. It's a symbol of having
accepted that there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. It's a
coping mechanism for the struggle to realize and balance what I am and am not
in control of in my life. It reminds me of playing Bioshock and watching Blade
Runner at the same time while naked in the jungle on another planet. It makes
me think of watching an old home video of myself and seeing Neptune right
outside my window. The list goes on and on-I could go forever."

...The most effective, easy-to-use record-cleaning machine I've ever tried.

    - Michael Fremer, Stereophile, June 2012

    Cleaning Time: 5 minutes

    Size: 13w x 8 d x 10.7 h (33cm w x 20cm d x 27cm h)

    Weight: 12lbs (5.5kg)

Cleaning Solution: 4.5 liters (1.2 gal) of distilled water added to 20ml of cleaning concentrate.

The Vinyl Cleaner PRO is the next generation, upgraded version of the award-winning ultrasonic LP cleaning system. Incorporating five years of evolutionary enhancements in addition to important upgrades to internal component parts, the Vinyl Cleaner PRO offers better features and performance, and also promises better reliability.

Features of the new Vinyl Cleaner PRO include better, quieter drying, a new premium motor, an upgraded pump with ceramic bearings, and improvements to the electronic control system including a dry-only option.

The Audio Desk Systeme Vinyl Cleaner Pro is the latest version of the first and only record cleaning machine that incorporates an ultrasonic cleaning cycle in addition to a more conventional mechanical cleaning via bi-directional rotating microfiber cleaning drums, and the result is the cleanest LP's ever. Unlike other record cleaners the ultrasonic Vinyl Cleaner bursts millions of microscopic bubbles off the surface of the record all the way to the bottom of the groove, where no fiber is fine enough to reach. And among LP cleaners the Audio Desk System Vinyl Cleaner is unique in using filtered air for drying, rather than one of the static-inducing suction systems employed by other record cleaning machines.

This vinyl record cleaner is fully automatic - just put the LP in the slot, push the button, and come back in 6 minutes (or tomorrow!) for a thoroughly cleaned and dried LP (both sides). Whole new layers of inner detail and air are revealed in the recordings, and of course most surface noise is eliminated.

Comes with 2 vials of a proprietary cleaning fluid developed specifically for this machine. A container of the fluid concentrate plus a gallon of distilled water cleans 150 new LP's, or 100 used LP's.

Records are precious. Not only are they arguably the best-sounding medium for reproduced music, but they often constitute irreplaceable collections. Even with careful handling contamination cannot be avoided in the long term. It is also well known that residual compounds from the LP pressing process obscure inner detail unless removed by cleaning even new records.

Reiner Glass of Audiodesksysteme has developed a professional quality, easy to use record washing machine he call the Vinyl Cleaner. The Vinyl Cleaner is fully automatic. The record is placed perpendicularly from above into the equipment opening and the red activation button is pressed. When the green LED shines, the clean LP can be removed. During the cleaning process rotary cleaning barrels made from a microfiber material move in opposite directions while a unique ultrasonic system carefully and thoroughly removes even the finest contaminants from the grooves. In use the cleaning solution is thoroughly filtered to avoid recontamination of the LP. Two high performance fans guarantee effective drying with quiet operation.

    Technical: How can sound clean?

Ultrasonic is sound generated above the human audible level.

A physical effect called cavitation results from the generation of ultrasonic frequencies in a liquid. In this cavitation process ultrasonic compression waves are created by an ultrasonic transducer. When the amplitude of this soundwave increases to a level where the surface tension of the liquid is broken, the fluid will tear apart leaving behind millions of microscopic vacuum bubbles. These vacuum bubbles then rapidly compress or implode creating millions of tiny liquid jets small enough to clean inside the smallest grooves of an LP. This process, also called microagitation, displaces any contaminants on the surface of the LP.

    Anvil Is Anvil

High Class Double Gatefold LP Version With Clear Vinyl + CD

Anvil is Anvil! A self confident statement. A band philosophy. And what's more: a life motto. Anvil is Anvil, that's the title of their latest album. And the name says it all: an unambiguous, uncompromising recording, typical of this band. At the same time it's fresh, occasionally surprising and generally exciting through and through. A stalwart metal manifesto by a band who stand for authenticity and credibility like few others in this fast lived business.

Anvil is Anvil sounds all of one piece and presents the band's amazing diversity, combined with their conscious loyalty to the compositional DNA of their own classics. "Die For A Lie" for example sounds like a contemporary version of "Jackhammer" and the stomping "Runaway Train" features the same directives as "Smoking Green", only based on Kudlow's present day maturity.

Anvil is Anvil was produced by Martin "Mattes" Pfeiffer (U.D.O.) at the Redhead 4 Studios in Pulheim near Cologne, Germany. For Lips, whose family is Jewish, as is drummer Robb Reiner's, it was a special moment to work with a German producer in a German studio.

Anvil is Anvil not only touches on sensitive issues but also documents the band's lust for life, their dynamic musical style and their absolute down to earthiness. When Lips delivers the line "Ace of Spades and the joker is wild" on "It's Your Move" with a surprisingly realistic Motörhead timbre, it proves his sense of humor and is an homage at the same time. And when Anvil invite their fans to the studio to join the choir on "Daggers And Rum", it only shows the closeness between the musicians and their fans.
