"I really felt like I was witnessing history... in a couple of years we'll be talking about,
'Man, I saw him at this intimate little show." - NPR
"Grand and transcendent... the layers of beautiful sound, homage to Japanese culture,
and use of violin make 151a a dreamy, pocket-sized symphony, perfect for anyone
needing a lift." - BUST
"Sumptuous orchestral brilliance... It's a stunningly good record, not merely chirpy,
zany, and whimsical-but also packed full of harmonious, heart-stopping beauty. If you
can imagine ELO's very best moments combined with Andrew Bird and a bit of weird
Bjork introspection-well, even that doesn't really do it justice. Apart from Pet Sounds,
perhaps, I can't think of a record that's as singly captivating in its sonic beauty." - THE PORTLAND MERCURY
"Kishi Bashi's music sounds surprisingly basic and natural. He's got such a great way
of thinking about production and melody that I've yet to hear a bad song from him." -
YOU AIN'T NO PICASO
"The music is off-kilter, particularly the opening chants and swirl of guitar and drums.
The middle section, though, takes a more even-keeled approach to pop, balancing the
looped whistles with peaceful, yet evocative vocals."
- CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
"A weightless, cartwheeling, electro-pop romp that's all zz and no fuss" - SPIN
Violinist, singer, and composer Kishi Bashi is slated to release his new album on
April 29, 2014. The album entitled "Lighght" (pronounced "Light") continues and
expands the sound of his critically acclaimed debut, "151a" - which earned Kishi Bashi
the *title* of "Best New Artist" by NPR. Since the profoundly successful release of
"151a" two years ago, Kishi Bashi has toured relentlessly, captivating audiences across
the globe with his loop-based live show, and fostering a groundswell of devotees.
"151a" was crafted over a four-year period while Kishi Bashi was touring and recording with Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal (where he was a full-time
member and co-producer). In late 2012, after the success of "151a", Kishi Bashi
decided to focus solely on his own music and began composing the new material
which has become "Lighght".
"Lighght" takes its title from the one-word poem by minimalist poet Aram Saroyan.
As Kishi Bashi explains, "The poem's blatant assault on literary convention and
classical form was attractive to me." It is apparent that such an approach informed
the new album, which has both broadened and redened his classical foundations.
"Though I have studied classical composition, I prefer to take an unconventional path when it comes to creating and thinking about music," says Kishi Bashi.
Though violin remains his primary instrument and songwriting muse, Kishi Bashi has
expanded his palette to include more diverse and nuanced instrumentation. Bright
and soaring avant-pop songs are prevalent, as are Eastern-tinged arrangements,
gentle ballads, Philip Glass inspired improvisations, and more than a few moments
that irt with 70s prog (in the tradition of ELO or Yes).

What We Saw From The Cheap SeatsWhat We Saw From The Cheap Seats is the much-anticipated new studio album from Regina Spektor which will be released on Sire/Warner Bros. Records. The album reunites Spektor with production partner Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Fiona Apple, Dr. Dre) and is her first album of new material since 2009's Far. The all original 11-song set will be preceded by the lead single All The Rowboats.
What We Saw From The Cheap Seats was recorded over an eight week period in the summer of 2011 in Los Angeles. She arrived at the session with a collection of new compositions, but others were pulled from earlier periods. She and Elizondo fleshed out instrumentation and sought to make each of the songs stand alone sonically. Most of the songs were recorded live with Spektor on piano and vocals, while additional instrumentation was added to these original takes.
Of working with Spektor, Elizondo says Regina Spektor is that rare artist that continues to surprise. Just when you think you have her figured out, she knocks you out with something completely different. It's that spirit that drives this record. Each song takes you on a journey that only Regina is capable of providing. She has truly outdone herself.
Spektor studied classical piano and garnered a loyal live following in New York before self-releasing two albums. Her breakthrough album Soviet Kitsch was released by Sire Records in 2004 followed by Begin to Hope in 2006. The album included worldwide fan favorites Fidelity, Samson, On The Radio and Better and is certified gold in the U.S. Spektor followed up with Far (2009) and Live from London (2010), which was recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo Theater during the Far tour.1. Live In LondonLive In London is the first live recording and concert film from acclaimed artist Regina Spektor. Captured mainly at London's famed Hammersmith Apollo Theatre, Live In London features 22 remarkable performances that span Spektor's brilliant catalog of music, including three new songs that have only been performed live (Silly Eye-Color Generalizations, Bobbing For Apples and Love, You're A Whore). Live In London was recorded during Regina's UK tour in support of her latest album, Far, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200.
An artist praised for her remarkable originality, inspired storytelling and enthralling performances, Rolling Stone raves Spektor put on one of the most intensely joyful rock shows we've seen all year. The Philadelphia Inquirer adds, Everything she did was greeted with thunderous applause ... the audience could not get enough. Perhaps what was most remarkable about Regina's performance, aside from hearing Spektor's gorgeous vocals in person, was her ability to enrapture the crowd. Spektor's passion, vitality and sheer musical talent transformed the Electric Factory into a world of intimacy. The Boston Globe simply says, multitalented Spektor is capable of anything and it shows on stage.1. On The Radio

Remember Us To LifeRegina Spektor returns with her seventh album Remember Us To Life out on Sire/Warner Bros. Records.
The new LP marks Spektor's first outing since 2012's What We Saw From The Cheap Seats, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Album Chart and her Grammy-nominated theme song "You've Got Time" for the hit Netflix show Orange Is The New Black.
Remember Us To Life is composed entirely of all new songs recently written by Spektor, a change from past albums when she would record songs written throughout her career. Spektor gave birth to her first child in 2014 and she spent considerable time writing during and after her pregnancy. Says Spektor "I made more art and felt more inspired than I had in a long time."
Spektor recorded with producer Leo Abrahams (David Byrne/Brian Eno, Frightened Rabbit, Paolo Nutini) in Los Angeles at The Village Studios. Says Spektor of Abrahams, "he is such a kind and talented musician. And person! I felt very grateful to work with him."
Born in the Soviet Union, Spektor began studying classical piano when she was six. Her family emigrated in 1989, landing in New York City, where she continued her classical training. Spektor eventually studied composition at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College where she graduated with honors. She began writing pop songs in her late teens and made her recorded debut in 2001 with the self-released 11:11, a collection of songs heavily influenced by jazz and blues. Songs followed in 2002 and Soviet Kitsch in 2004. Spektor's commercial breakthrough came in 2006 on her fourth LP, Begin to Hope. The gold-certified album included the singles "On the Radio," "Better" and "Fidelity," which climbed the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Spektor's fifth album, Far released in 2009, and sixth album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats released in 2012, both debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.1. Bleeding Heart

FarFar is the highly anticipated follow-up to Regina Spektor's gold album Begin to Hope. Far continues to reveal new layers in Spektor's songwriting as she pursues the next level in her inimitable musical style. With her uninhibited imagination and her hands-on approach in the studio, Far not only succeeds with 13 impressive and accessible tracks, but it spotlights Spektor's remarkable gift to craft intelligent and refreshingly honest odes to life. Four exceptional producers collaborated with Spektor on Far: Jeff Lynne (ELO, The Traveling Wilburys), Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem), David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes) and Garret Jacknife Lee (Weezer, R.E.M.).
Spektor's ability to explore rich soundscapes and combine them with her evocative and intricately structured melodies and lyrics has grown tremendously on Far. From the gripping lyrics of the first single, Laughing With to the intoxicating beat of The Calculation, from the multi-layered vocal work on Blue Lips to the rocking Eet, Far is the work of a talented, daring and important artist.
Captivating audiences with songs that are distinctively her own, Begin to Hope allowed Spektor to go from hypnotizing small crowds to selling out 3,000 capacity venues worldwide with what Rolling Stone praised as one of the most intensely joyful rock shows we've seen. Begin to Hope also spent five weeks in a row at #1 on the Billboard new artists chart before moving to #20 on the Billboard Top 100 and one million copies worldwide (gold or platinum in seven countries).1. Scratch My Back...And I'll Scratch YoursGatefold sleeve
Rather than make a traditional covers record, I thought it would be much more fun to create a new type of project in which artists communicated with each other and swapped a song for a song, i.e. you do one of mine and I'll do one of yours, hence the title - Scratch My Back - And I'll Scratch Yours. Peter Gabriel
Scratch My Back And I'll Scratch Yours is a series of song exchanges in which Gabriel and other leading artists reinterpret each other's songs. The first half of this double album, titled Scratch My Back, was originally released in 2010. Gabriel covers work by seasoned superstars like David Bowie, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, but he also took on marvelous interpretations of work by younger acts like Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and Radiohead. In 2013, most of these artists returned the favour on And I'll Scratch Yours.
The reciprocating artists opted for differing approaches to Peter's songs. A few chose to radically reinterpret the original material, in the process leaving it barely recognisable - Lou Reed's snarling Solsbury Hill or the frighteningly futuristic version of Mother Of Violence by Brian Eno, co-writer of David Bowie's Heroes covered by Gabriel on Scratch My Back. Other contributors include Arcade Fire (Games Without Frontiers), Elbow (Mercy Street) and Regina Spektor (Blood Of Eden).LP1

The Following MountainThe Following Mountain, the newest solo album by experimental folk artist, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Amidon, will be released on Nonesuch Records.
Created with producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Regina Spektor) and Amidon's frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, it represents a new approach for Amidon, who shifts here from his previous norm of re-working traditional folk songs and presents nine wholly original compositions, with some lyrics drawing on traditional sources. The album features a rare guest appearance by drummer Milford Graves, known initially for his work in the 1960s with free jazz legends Albert Ayler and Sonny Sharrock.
The Following Mountain was made during two distinct recording sessions: an initial weekend in Brooklyn where Ismaily and Amidon brought in Graves, percussionist Juma Sultan (Jimi Hendrix), and saxophonist Sam Gendel for a heavily improvised session; followed by time in the studio over the summer in London, where Amidon worked with Leo Abrahams to shape and develop the songs.
The Following Mountain is a walk through the thickets of the imagination, Amidon said, a personal mythology of sounds and visions and characters. It is my first album of original music, but is still linked to the Appalachian music I love, as well as improvisation, beats, Don Cherry, Vermont, London.
