Wallpaper Music (Discontinued) (On Sale)Hailing from Tennessee, Cheap Time has been around in one incarnation or another since 2006. The nucleus has always been Jeffrey Novak, who writes and sings in addition to playing guitar and keyboards. The band began with members of the band Be Your Own Pet rounding out the lineup. Theirs was a sound of a teen punk band with more attitude than musicianship, owing more than a little to early Redd Kross. By the time Cheap Time recorded their debut album, the personnel had changed drastically and, in addition to improved musicianship, Novak brought in influences of '70s glam and power pop acts like Sparks and The Quick.
The band followed this with more lineup shuffles and a sophomore album, Fantastic Explanations (and Similar Situations), that was darker, moodier and more complex than its predecessor. Despite the many changes, however, Cheap Time has always been a sum of its parts. A quintessential ingredient is the low-fi bombast with which they scuzz up their otherwise lightweight brand of simplified 1970's glam punk, packing an impressive amount of adolescent snottiness into two-minute blasts of sound with both precision and melody.
Cheap Time are now back with their third and by far strongest record to date. Recorded in Novak's new home studio, Wallpaper Music distills perfectly all the phases through which the band has passed. Retaining both the punk moves and pop-damaged glam jams, the band delivers their most realized, cohesive record yet. Songs like "More Cigarettes" and "Another Time" are Aussie-esque punkers in a Saints-like vein, while "Underneath the Fruit Flies" shows that Novak has found a happy medium between his punk tendencies and his desire to experiment. This latest installment will satisfy anyone who has been keeping track of this band's trajectory and make them look forward to what might come next.1. More Cigarettes

Jason Falkner, Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Brian Reitzell have quite a
musical history. Manning and Falkner-once bandmates in Jellyfish-have
gone on to success as solo acts, or as members of groups including The
Three O'Clock, The Grays, Imperial Drag, and The Moog Cookbook. Brian
Reitzell, once the drummer for Redd Kross and Air, turned his talents to film
and television, supervising and composing music for several films directed
by Sofia Coppola, including The Virgin Suicides and the Academy Award
nominated Lost In Translation (for which he, along with Kevin Shields of My
Bloody Valentine, was nominated for a BAFTA award.) Currently, Reitzell
composes music for the NBC-TV drama Hannibal.
But, together, they were TV Eyes.
Their 2006 self-titled debut was only released in Japan, now out of print, and
commanding top dollar on the collector market. Omnivore Recordings is going
to rectify that situation with a CD and 2-LP expanded edition. The release
features nine tracks from TV Eyes, plus 3 bonus tracks from the Japanese
only EP Softcore-each of which is a song from TV Eyes, remixed by a
member of the band.
For its first ever issue on vinyl, the double LP will be pressed on translucent
yellow vinyl. The packaging will include photos and liner notes from the band's Jason Falkner.

Researching The BluesRedd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. Their Merge release Researching the Blues is the band's first new album in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff McDonald and produced and mixed by Steven McDonald, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve says, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways."
Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like "Annette's Got The Hits" and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ.
In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the "classic Neurotica" line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (It's Ok) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus' Invitational, "Dig It Up"; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop MontrÉal.1. Basses LoadedIt's 2016 and the Melvins have an album called Basses Loaded coming out that features six different bass players. That's right SIX different bass players. NEW Melvins bass players for this go around are Steve McDonald from the legendary Los Angeles glam punk band Redd Kross and their old friend Krist Novoselic from Nirvana! Making return appearances are former and probably future bass players Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle/Fantomas), Jared Warren (Big Business) and Dale Crover.
Six bass players? Is this a joke? What IS the deal with these ceaseless idiots? Can't they just settle in and be happy with ONE line up?
I suppose it figures considering how many goddam bass players they've had up until this point.
Nonetheless Basses Loaded actually works!
According to King Buzzo, "More is more! As hard as it might be to believe, all of these bass players contribute something of their own to Basses Loaded which gives the whole album a good kick right in it's big fat ass."
Recording with Krist Novoselic is something that should have happened a long time ago but rumor has it that he's been busy doing things like playing bass with Paul McCartney and getting his ass inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's hard to believe he even bothered with this! Ha!
Butthole Surfer and Honky member Jeff Pinkus played on the Melvins' album Hold it In and has done shit load of touring with the boys in the last few years.
Trevor Dunn recorded the Freak Puke album with these guys as well as played bass on the Melvins' record setting US tour where they played all 50 states plus DC in 51 days. This was also released as a tour DVD last year entitled Across the USA in 51 Days, the Movie!
Jared Warren is a Melvins' veteran having recorded the Senile Animal, Nude with Boots and The Bride Screamed Murder albums as well as the Bulls and the Bees EP. Dale Crover is usually the Melvins drummer but slid over to bass when they brought back original drummer Mike Dillard for the Tres Cabrones album (this line-up was called Melvins 1983).
Steve McDonald has been in Redd Kross since he was 11 and he's a founding member of Los Angeles hardcore band OFF! plus he's got REALLY good stories about the "rock scene" in Los Angeles! The Melvins have a shit load of touring planned with Steven this year so this whole thing is a really big deal.1. The Decay of Lying (Steve McDonald)

Auto Music (On Sale)What better place to create the ultimate driving album than Los Angeles, where Brian Reitzell lives and works? You might not immediately recognise his name, but you'll certainly have stumbled across at least one corner of his massive portfolio, whether as the drummer in Redd Kross and with French electronica artists Air, or as one of Hollywood's most sought-after music supervisors and composers. That's his day job: Brian is the guy who gets to choose the music you hear in TV series and movies -- the last year alone, he's worked on Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, NBC's TV series Hannibal, Starz TV series Boss (starring Kelsey Grammer) and Ubisoft's mind blowing new video game Watch Dogs. Brian has turned the job into a creative practice (he thinks of himself as a 'music conceptualist'), not only using his impeccable music taste to select more eclectic and adventurous cuts than you normally hear on screen, but also commissioning and producing new music from some of rock and pop's most reticent geniuses. For Sofia Coppola's Lost In Translation, he persuaded My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields out of obscurity, and he also secretly commissioned new music from the reclusive former singer of Talk Talk, Mark Hollis -- a snippet of which was used on the Starz series Boss.1. BadillacTogether PANGEA began with lead singer-songwriter William Keegan recording songs on a 4-track tape machine as a teenager. The band truly began to
take shape when Danny Bengston joined on bass, Erik Jimenez on drums and later Cory Hanson on lead guitar. They began performing at CalArts and
house parties in the Santa Clarita valley in 2008, soon venturing to house shows and DIY spaces throughout the West Coast. These initial grassroots
tours were followed by shows at iconic LA venues such as The Echo, Echoplex, the Troubadour and The Roxy, as well as trips to Austin for SXSW. Their
debut recording was 2010's cassette-only Jelly Jam, released by Seattle-based label Lost Sound Tapes. Their second album Living Dummy was coreleased
on LP in the summer of 2011 by Burger Records and The Smell's label Olfactory. Living Dummy was followed up by the Killer Dreams EP in
early 2012. Pangea have played shows with Wavves, The Black Lips, FIDLAR, Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin, King Kahn and the Shrines, Nobunny, Redd
Kross, Guitar Wolf, The Strange Boys, and many more. Now signed to Harvest Records, together PANGEA released their 7-inch, "Snakedog", in August

Appetite For AdrenochromeColored Vinyl
Step back into our little rock and roll time machine.... don't worry, we're not going TOO far back, let's say how about 25 years? To a time when a younger Kepi Ghoulie rounded up a bunch of guys named John (yes, John Vetter on bass, John Rudgers on guitar, John Sosa on drums) and drove from L.A. to Sacramento to record his FIRST FULL LENGTH recording as the GROOVIE GHOULIES! (recorded by a guy named John, no less!) Recorded in two days (yes TWO DAYS, all musical tracks were laid down on a Saturday, vocals and mixing on Sunday), the band rehearsed and recorded the entire album in the sequence that you hear it on the record, to save time and money and be as prepared as they could! Listen closely and you will hear anywhere from two to five songs connect musically without any interruption whatsoever! A crash course in 80's rock, punk, garage, and underground/indie pop, Appetite For Adrenochrome reflects the urgency of a bunch of young bucks trying to get their message out, and also is a fun little time capsule of the mad, mish-mash of music that was going on in Los Angeles at the time, with bands like Redd Kross, Haunted Garage, Celebrity Skin, and up-and-comers L7 and GWAR... The Groovie Ghoulies played showsand found camaraderie in these like minded, go-all-out, fellow rock bands. This era also found them playing great events, like a Herschell Gordon Lewis (2,000 Maniacs) film fest/lecture, years before Rob Zombie and the Ramones started hosting events in the Hollywood Forever cemetery. The Groovie Ghoulies have always been a bit of Hollywood Outsiders, never quite fitting in to certain genres and pigeon-shaped holes, and with Appetite For Adrenochrome, you can kind of see the evolution of little Kepi taking his home made drum machine recordings out of the basement and to the streets with the first semi-solid, fully electric line up of a musical legacy that lasts until this day!
