Real EstateREAL ESTATE waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey quartet cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots its no surprise that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound, lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through parched neighborhood streets. MARTIN COURTNEYs songwriting has a way of wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than the bitter. Add to this MATTHEW MONDANILEs (DUCKTAILS, PREDATOR VISION) shimmering guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the boardwalk clatter of ETIENNE PIERRE DUGUAYs drums, ALEX BLEEKERs staccato low end and the perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away.Andy French (Raven Sings the Blues) Received a Best New Music, 8.5 rating from Pitchfork.Side A

Real GoneWritten and produced by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, his wife and long-time collaborator, 2004's Real Gone features 15 tracks of funk, strange stories, Jamaican rock-steady, blues both urban and rural, rhythms and melodies both Latin and African and, for the first time, no piano. Barely RealSeminal Slowcore Progenitor's Sub Pop Albums Reissued Individually as Deluxe 2LP + CD Editions!
Restored from the Original Masters & Complete w/ Additional Singles, Demos, Live Recordings and Peel Sessions!
From 1990-1994, New York City's Codeine were making somnambulant waves on a musical landscape reeling from Sub Pop's better known exports. 1991's Frigid Stars, 1992's Barely Real, and 1994's The White Birch received much critical praise upon release, but Codeine dissolved before any of that hype would carry Low, Bedhead, and the Red House Painters to international acclaim.
All three albums will be subjected to Numero's notoriously elaborate packaging and detailed liner notes, including essays by Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman, Love Child's Alan Licht, and the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd. The albums have been faithfully restored from the original masters, and are accompanied by a plethora of singles, demos, live recordings, and Peel sessions. Each album will be packaged as a double album with a CD of the same material.
Codeine's second release, the 6-song EP Barely Real, was originally issued in 1992. Several of the songs from the Barely Real recording sessions were rejected and would be re-recorded for the band's final album The White Birch. Features the David Grubbs solo cut W and a cover of MX-80 Sound's Promise of Love. 2LP + CD edition features 7 bonus tracks including demos and alternate takes.
In support of this great undertaking, Codeine's original line-up of Stephen Immerwahr, John Engle, and Chris Brokaw will be reuniting for a handful of dates in the US and Europe, including All Tomorrow's Parties in both London and Japan, and Primavera in Spain.LP1

Real HairOn Speedy Ortiz's Real Hair, the band sets a course
between the knotty discord of debut album Major Arcana
and the pop bonades of the preceding Sports EP.
Recorded and mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie (Pixies
Radiohead), the new EP nds them subtly adding new
techniques to their songbook. Guitarists Sadie Dupuis and
Matt Robidoux bring on additional guitar effects to color
the roundabout feel of "Oxygal," while bassist Darl Ferm
and drummer Mike Falcone hit hard to deliver the jump in-the-pit urgency of "American Horror".
From the vocal melodies to the no-nonsense guitar turns,
this is Speedy's catchiest outing yet, drawing inspiration
from contemporary Top 40 and R&B radio in addition to
their regular arsenal of guitar rock. Dupuis' lyrics continue
to address concerns about identity, representation, and
their misalignment, this time from a new angle: "While the
last album was kind of a breakup jam, these songs are a
lot more introspective-myself dealing with and talking to
and making sense of myself," she says.
With Real Hair, Speedy Ortiz once again taps into the
four-part chemistry that brought their prior outings praise.
They're still equal parts noisy and poetic, and now merge
those channels more seamlessly than ever.1. American Horror

What's RealDear Listener / Internet Surfer / Intrigued Music Consumer-
Thank for you for taking the time to read about our new record, What's Real. We have been working on this album for the better part of two years. Or maybe I have been working on this album since I was 14. That was when I first heard the bands that made me want to pick up the guitar and learn to play. When I became consumed over the angst, the freedom, the recklessness of rock and roll, the escape it created and allowed, and the feeling of unity with anyone who was discovering and finding the same.
I started writing this album as soon as we got home from touring behind our debut record Out In The Light. All of a sudden, I was sitting still for the first time in years, and I dove into my early musical influences to find that what I once thought were alternative anthems of recklessness, of angst, of societal alienation, were also perfectly constructed songs. It wasn't pop. But it became popular for a reason. And as a songwriter I began to see that music in a new light.
I approached this album from that place. From a place of seeing that songs can sound big, feel big, and still be incredibly personal. Still be brutally honest. Still leave everything on the table. And while current alternative radio is pumping out songs about the "best day of my life" and "wanting to be like the cool kids", I wanted to write songs about heartbreak, about finding clarity, about feeling stuck in your hometown. And I wrote it with the hope that people connect with it in a visceral way. In an emotional way. The way I am connecting to it. A connection I feel is not as expected these days.
This record was recorded over a 15 month period while I was living in San Francisco and taking road trips down to record with friend and Grouplove producer/drummer Ryan Rabin. The first song we recorded together was "Got To My Head". He got where I was coming from and became my collaborator throughout the majority of the process. We pushed this record to the extremes, trying to fit as many hooks at times, capturing throat wrenching vocal takes at others. I was writing while recording. A lot of the writing takes on past tragic relationships I have since moved on from. "I Feel Everything" is a song about the addiction of abusive and extreme relationships, "Over It" is a song about finally getting out of it, and "What's Real" is about the constant struggle to weed out the impersonal and temporary relationships and yearning for something more. The songs came from desperate times. They came from a place where I would rather be in any situation than the one I was in. Some of them were written while in it, some of them are reflection.
I recorded a handful of the songs with another producer Carlos De La Garza. Among those are "Rebel Yell", a song about longing for the drive to care about the state of the world like I once did so intensely, but has faded with the distractions of adulthood, and "Mom And Dad's," a song about the realities of having to move back in with your parents after you thought you were gone for good, and finding everything both completely changed and exactly the same.
This record could not have been possible without my band. I met them all while living in San Francisco. It's a new band from the last record. Andrew Wales plays Drums. Brian DaMert plays Guitar. Greg Sellin plays Bass. And Sara DaMert plays Keys. They have helped me take these songs from my headphones to the stage and have realized them in the greatest way possible. they do them every justice I could have asked. I am so grateful to have them.
When we finished the record I felt like we had made a sonic place. It felt like my bedroom in high school. We accomplished my goal in providing a world for someone who needs a real alternative. An escape. I don't care if that sounds cheesy. I am not worried about it. Come to our shows. Participate in the energy. We will leave it all on the table. We expect the audience to as well. There is something really rewarding in doing so. It's what I dreamt about when I was 14 and started playing guitar. It's what I still dream about today. It's What's Real.

Not RealNot Real' is the second album by Stealing Sheep which has been written, recorded and produced by band members Becky Hawley, Emily Lansley and Lucy Mercer at their studio in Liverpool. The band met in 2010 and work together creating music and visual art.
The unifying theme of the new album 'Not Real' is an interplay of fact and fiction; the edge of dreams and limits of reality. These visions are grounded by bright melodies and insistent beats and unified by vocal harmonies; sometimes metronomic and chant-like, sometimes choral and pop.
It follows their debut, 'Into the Diamond Sun', released in 2012 by Heavenly Recordings. The first album morphed their individual styles to create a 'medieval-kraut-folk' inspired sound. They were described as an unanticipated 'pagan pop revival' and since its release have toured as guests of Postal Service and Alt-J, opened for St.Vincent in Paris, performed the songs of David Lynch at the Barbican and collaborated with the Radiophonic Workshop on an original soundtrack to the cult 70's science fiction film 'Le Planete Sauvage'.
For the second album they have concentrated on developing the sonic aesthetic of their new music. "We are more focussed about what we are trying to do. Everything has a reason for being there." They have been experimenting with tuned percussion, programmed beats, trigger samples and worked with effected synths, utilising the guitar and lap steel more sparingly and introducing more processed sounds. They've drawn inspiration from 50's exotica, electronic music and 80's pop and have been greatly influenced by the likes of Grace Jones, Can, Delia Derbyshire, Eden Ahbez, Moon Dog and John Carpenter. Grayson Perry's pop-folk art and the band's self-created mythologies were also a source of inspiration for song writing.
This is an alternative pop record that has been 'self-manufactured' by the band. Having learned new skills in the studio over the last years, the band (assisted by Sam Crombie and Joe Wills) have self-produced the album. They have used the studio not only as a writing tool but also as an instrument; experimenting with post production and varying instrumentation and layered textures. "We started off in pre-production doing all the demos ourselves" say's Becky "the demos captured an atmosphere that we wanted to carry forward to the album. The result was a hypbrid of casual takes and more considered recordings
Individual songs on the album have different environments and creatures that go with them, often inspired by the galactic rather than earth-bound imagery. Becky: "I imagine dehumanised worlds, planets with creatures that have evolved in a completely different way
The visual side is highly important to the band, all of whom have art backgrounds. "We like to be involved in all the aspects of the presentation because it's symbiotic to the music." They collaborate with artists and with 'the costumologists', coming up with ideas like "outfits that texturally reflect rhythms" and "frequency triggered, light-up costumes". The colourful and organic album cover, a collaboration between photographer Charlotte Rutherford and collage artist Louise Mason, shows their confident image for this record: as they tread the lines of surreal pop.
There is no stopping the imaginations of Stealing Sheep - but like lucid dreams, these are controlled fantasies and skilfully created worlds. Follow them on a hypnagogic journey as they sing: "listen to yourself and look within".1. Sequence

Da Real World (Pre-Order)Throughout the entirety of Da Real World, Missy Elliott is determined to redefine the meaning of the negative, female-targeted b-word (the album was originally going to be titled She's a Bitch). Inverting the term to represent a woman who knows what she wants, Missy exhibits her new attitude by aggressively showcasing her strong songwriting skills and superb vocal talents.
Her lyrics are relatively simple, but perfectly complement the syncopated orchestrations of the often-imitated, never-duplicated producer Timbaland. Climactic strings dance around the voices of Missy, Nicole, and Outkast's Big Boi on All N My Grill and on Busa Rhyme a punctuating tone accentuates the dark confessions of featured MC Eminem. A plethora of guests pepper Da Real World, but the multifaceted Missy is never outshone. -Celine Wong1. Mysterious (Intro)

Nothing Is RealCrystal antlers aren't really about making some shit we've heard before, but they do take notice of some important touchstones: powerful organ runs, ragged vocals and an ability to turn even relatively short songs into something that sounds beyond epic."
- The Fader
Merging psych, garage, lo-fi, prog, and countless other influences, the group easily maintains consistency despite a complete inability to be pinned to any specific movement or trend."
Art-garage whiplash at its finest."
- AV Club
It's hard not to admire these out-there dudes"
They're at the point where comparisons do little justice. They're just crystal antlers now."
- LA Times
Currently slated for a fall 2013 release is the newest Crystal Antlers full-length Nothing Is Real, featuring cover art by famed surf/skate/graffiti legend C.R. Stecyk III and recorded as the band returns to its most fundamental roots as an agile power trio - Jonny Bell, drummer Kevin Stuart and guitarist Andrew King.
Nothing Is Real is Crystal Antlers going beyond the beyond, with songs that rattle and ricochet from desolation to delirium. Opener "Pray" sounds like what would have happened if Black Flag's Greg Ginn had produced the first Psychedelic Furs single; "Persephone" and "Anywhere But Here" match the desperate, relentless rhythm of the Wipers with the inside-out guitar melodies of the Pixies. "Licorice Pizza" recalls lost cult-punk heroes like the Flesh Eaters or the Embarrassment. On Nothing Is Real, you'll feel as much as hear echoes of bands like Wire, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.
As Bell puts it, "With each album, we've tried to figure out ways to include more of our whole selves in the recordings, while still keeping things cohesive. And from growing up in punk bands, there always needs to be that little element of something that might piss someone off. We might be using a drum machine-but we're gonna use it completely the wrong way."1. Rattlesnake

Real Emotional TrashStephen Malkmus has never made a record that covered nearly as much stylistic ground as Real Emotional Trash, his fourth solo LP (this one credited with The Jicks, like his second, Pig Lib), and the result is a decidedly low-down and heavy record that packs a hell of an emotional punch. Cold Son, Out of Reaches and We Can't Help You are amongst the more gorgeous, contemplative songs Malkmus has ever recorded, but true to form there's no shortage of dark humor or virtuoso guitar work. High Moon Records presents the 1974 studio album from one of rock music's most gifted and enigmatic legends-back on vinyl after 40 years! Reel To Real captures Arthur Lee and Love at the peak of their rock/funk/soul powers. Originally released in 1974 on RSO Records, this deluxe reissue features over 74 minutes of vibrant, remastered audio from the original multitrack tapes, a 32- page booklet with an illuminating essay by Rolling Stone's David Fricke, and a trove of candid, unpublished photos.
What Arthur Lee began on Love's Black Beauty (released by High Moon to wide acclaim in 2013), he brought to fruition on Reel To Real. Armed with a major label budget, and a powerful, intuitive band, he dug deep into the blues, soul, and rock grooves that fi rst inspired him, reaching out to a new audience with his fi erce and forward-thinking personal vision. To a palette of stinging guitars, explosive brass, deep funk bass and clavinet, splashes of spacey synthesizer, and dream-team female backing vocals, Arthur Lee brought his funkiest and most soulful collection of songs, and channeled the most visceral vocal performances he ever committed to tape.
High Moon Records has unearthed 11 revelatory, previously unreleased tracks from the original sessions - including alternate takes and mixes, live-in-studio rehearsals, and 4 newly discovered Arthur Lee originals! The Real Thing (Deluxe)180 Gram Heavyweight Vinyl With Gatefold Sleeves
Features A 2nd LP With A Selection Of Rarities
As Faith No More prepares to unleash its first new album in nearly 20 years, Rhino Records celebrates the back-to-back classic albums that helped establish the band's vital and visceral musical legacy with Deluxe Editions of THE REAL THING and ANGEL DUST.
Each album will be offered as a double LP, 180gm heavyweight black vinyl format of each album, featuring the original album and a selection of the rarities related to each. The release date of the vinyl formats is planned for August.
Like all bands who transcended their time to become cornerstones of an era, Faith No More sounded like nobody else. The group's commercial breakthrough came in 1989 with the release of THE REAL THING. It was the band's third album, but the first to feature the line-up of Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards), Bill Gould (bass), Jim Martin (guitars), and Mike Patton (vocals).
The album was incredibly diverse, yet every song was linked by the band's own developing style. It peaked at #11 on the charts and was certified platinum, spawning the singles, "From Out Of Nowhere" and "Falling To Pieces," as well as "Epic," which was ubiquitous on radio and MTV.
The bonus disc puts a different spin on many of the album tracks with remixed versions of "Epic" and "Falling To Pieces," as well as live performances of "Surprise You're Dead," "Underwater Love" and the Black Sabbath classic "War Pigs." The bonus disc also includes the b-sides "Cowboy Song" and "The Grade."LP1 (as per 1989 LP)

Right From Real
"Like a fever dream of Julia Holter
merging with Grimes, Ainsworth's future
visions weave neoclassical flourishes and
enchanted melody-mangles into cool 80's
sound-beds, and it sounds fantastic."
"These soundscapes can provide a myriad
of emotion, from reassurance to
discomfort, anxiety to enthusiasm. [...] it's
an unexpected achievement for such a
young artist and a testament to the power
of music as a purely visceral force."
Composer / producer / singer Lydia Ainsworth has been secretly writing
and recording songs over the past three years from bedrooms and
basements between Toronto and Brooklyn. What began as pass-time
sketches between composing music for film and multimedia projects has
over time revealed an enchanting collection of experimental pop songs
with a life of their own.
Blurring the boundaries between indie music, filmic orchestration, and
electronic music, Lydia's debut "Right From Real" thrives on haunting
melodies and draws inspiration from a wide range of musical sources -
Verdi's Requiem, Ace of Base, Bulgarian Choirs, Bernard Herrmann, Tones
on Tail, Art of Noise to name a few. This sense of unexpected marriages
of influence flows throughout much of Lydia's work which features use of
voice sampling and string arrangements woven into a unique minimalist

Deep in the San Fernando Valley, behind the train tracks and amidst dilapidated warehouses, was rock n' roll's best kept secret. Sound City, America's greatest unsung recording studio, housed a legendary, one-of-a-kind recording console, and became the birth place to the seminal albums that defined 20th century music. Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Nirvana, amongst many others, all put magic to tape within these walls. It was rock n' roll hallowed ground. Directed by Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and featuring interviews and performances by the iconic musicians who made their careers in the studio, Sound City tells the story of real rock n' roll history, and celebrates the human element of music, as Grohl gathers some of rock's greatest artists to collaborate on a new album. Using Sound City's legendary analog console, together they continue to create musical miracles in a digital world.
Sound City - Real To Real, the companion album to the documentary is released on Roswell
